Editor's Notes

  1. After the Peloponnesian war the Greek world had fallen apart with Athens no longer in control. This left room for them to be taken over by the newly emerging powerful Macedonians to the north. They were a farming society who had focused on protecting their borders and did not get involved in the fighting of the Greek city-states.. when leader Phillip came to power he made Macedonia a powerful state. He respected Greek culture and want to united Macedonia and Greece. He eventually did gain control taking the freedom of the Greek city states. He did insisted that the Greek states form a league so they could fight with him in a war against Persia. Before he could enact his plan he was assonated which left the task to his young son Alexander. Alexander was 20 when he became king and wanted to be just like his father. He did set forth with his father to take over the Persian empire which he was successful with along with Egypt al the way to Palestine. By the age of around thirty Alexander and his men had reach india. His soldiers refused ot go further and he agreed to go home. He planned to try to conquer more later but died from his wounds and fever at the age of 32.
  2. Soon after Alexander's death his empire started to fall apart. Eventually the empire was divided up between 4 kings. Alexander had the idea to included Persians, Macedonians, and Greeks in the rule of the empire by intermarriage. Those that came after him only used Greeks and Macedonians. Library largest in World-500,000 scrolls. Alexandria was burned because of pagan beliefs when Christianity rose up
  3. The view of the universe had been that the sun was at the center. This new idea will not be excepted till around the 15 hundreds. Eratosthenes- calculated earths circumference-only 185 miles off Figured out how to pump water out of mines using the Archimedes screw, and gravity by displacing water in his bath.
  4. Epicureanism- free self from emotional turmoil and worry.
