Academy Nominee’s Crisis Paper
Key Audience: Fans (millennials and older generations)
Key Questions/Concerns: What is your response on black actors scarcely being nominated for
consecutive years? Why is their lack of diversity on your polls and categories? How can the
Oscars fix this?
Statements:
Compassion: we are truly sorry for the lack of diversity on our polls and categories. We tried to
be as fair as possible, but unfortunately it failed us miserably. This issue was brought up before,
but we did not truly look into it.
Conviction: we did not mean to bring controversy or dispute during our awards ceremony. We
should have looked deeper into the problem instead of just putting it aside and handling it late.
Obviously we got what was coming to us and we should’ve been more prepared for this.
Optimism: but there is a way to fix this. We will now look extensively into the problem and will
do all we can to help bring this issue to a close. We will also have a new voting system to bring
the fans into this and to have the fans vote online for their favorite categories or categories of
their choosing. We will then allow the user to view their results of the current polls to see who is
winning/losing. Then four days before the awards ceremony we will still have user being able to
vote, but now they cannot see the overall results to avoid spoilers. We truly believe this plan can
help not only bring more diversity, but an overall fairness to the awards ceremony.
