Audience Research Findings/Results
I recently put a survey up on my blog for my G321 AS Media Studies. I received 5
responses that were in truth a mixed bag. Ranging from different favourite genres to
the company people keep whilst watching films.

(Fig.1)
As you can see from figure 1, people’s choice of genre was divided between Horror,
Action, Fantasy and Other, with Horror emerging as the victor by just 1 individual.
The last films watched by the participants are clearly related to their favourite genre.
Most people spent 1-2+ hours watching films in a week, this is apparent with a
horror film as people may have been looking for a quick thrill, maybe they have
watched said film before going to sleep or before going out somewhere.

(Fig.2)
From figure 2 you can see that the most popular option of film watching companions
was in fact with friends, this has become an increasingly more popular trend during
the past decade, as films have became more relatable and with horror films, people
tend to watch in groups as it can be quite amusing to watch your peers be shocked
and jump. Illegal downloads of films make it hard for the film industry to maximize
their profits, when someone wants to watch a film, an illegal download seems like
the easy and most economical option, but what people don’t realize is that if a film
company fail to make any money from a film, then they will make a loss. If this
continues to happen the studio may go bankrupt and not be able to makes films that
so many people enjoy. The problem of piracy is becoming increasingly worse and our
survey shows that 4 in 5 people have illegally downloaded a film in the past.

(Fig.3)

Figure three shows the text-based questions and answers. Some people chose not to
answer the first question so I just assumed they answered the answer was a no. The
small paragraphs gave very different profiles of the people who watch films. For
example one person stated that they don’t regularly watch films and someone else
said they only watch strictly action films. This shows the variety of preferences and
minds within the audiences of films.
