Shape Task
Evaluation
What did you like about your image?
It was a full body image of a llama so it was easy to place shapes over it to and warp them into the
right size and outline, and it portrays the exact shape of it. The llama didn’t have a lot of detail on it,
apart from fur which I didn’t include. I added the nose, an eye and the dark inner part of its ears to
add some more detail to the face, which made it look a lot more life like.
What would you improve if you did it again?
I would make it look more realistic by adding textures, gradients and shadows instead of just having
one block colour, this would bring it more to life. I would spend more time refining the shapes to get
the exact shape of the llama’s body parts so it doesn’t look as messy, such as the legs and the head. If
I had more time I would have maybe made the background more interesting instead of block green,
by creating an abstract background using different colours.
Rotoscope
Evaluation
What did you like about your image?
I liked how I could get the precise outline and shapes for the reindeer by using the polygonal lasso
tool, which was much easier to do than when I just had to use shapes for the shape task. It was
also quicker to do as I didn’t have to spend time warping the shapes. I also liked how I added
detail to the reindeer, like the face and the different patches of colour on its body, this made it
look more realistic.
What would you improve if you did it again?
Some parts look quite messy because some parts of the body didn’t completely get filled with
colour, particularly the legs, so I would spend more time improving that area to fill in the gaps. I
would also add more detail, such as fur texture, to make it look more real.
Text Based
Evaluation
What did you like about your image?
I like the texts on the right best where I added the image of the pizza into the writing
because it makes it look much more interesting and creative and not like a plain font with
block colour. I also liked the text that I warped and added a gradient to because made it look
more colourful and less boring which makes it more appealing to look at. Warping the text
made it look more interesting than just keeping the normal font shape. I liked how I added
the strokes to my texts because it made the words stand out and clearer to read.
What would you improve if you did it again?
If I did it again I could experiment with more techniques, such as pattern overlay and drop
shadow, and I could try distorting the text in different ways. I would also use more images to
create clipping masks with different fonts and sizes
Comic Book
Evaluation
What did you like about your image?
I liked how I posterized my images but I didn’t make them too abstract so you can still tell who’s in
the photos. In the first image I liked how the eyes are dark as this adds depth and detail, and this is
the image I like the best as it has the most colour. In the hair I liked how the end parts are dark
and shadowed but a lot of it is highlighted, this adds a nice contrast. In the second image, I liked
how you can distinctly see the facial features, such as the freckles and facial hair, this makes it
very detailed but not overly realistic. In the last image of Leonardo DiCaprio, I liked how the effect
I used gave a red-ish colour that looks almost as if its glowing and it looks very warm.
What would you improve if you did it again?
If I could use this technique again, I would experiment with using more colours to keep the images
looking interesting.
Photography
Happy Lonely
Sad Excitement
Evaluation
What did you like about your image?
Each photo we took captured a different mood: happy, lonely, sad and excitement. I liked
how the emotions that we had to portray were very accurate, especially the lonely and sad
images. The person in those photos doesn’t show his face and he is alone which shows
sadness and isolation. The lighting in the images is quite dark which contrasts with the two
other happy and upbeat photographs.
What would you improve if you did it again?
If I had to take the photos again I would have a different setting for the happy and excited
photos, I might include more people in the background for these images to make them
seem like they’re taken in a positive environment, and to make them contrast even more
with the sad and lonely images.
Illustration
Evaluation
What did you like about your image?
Instead of drawing a picture from my imagination, I decided to use the internet to search for an
image of a fruit bowl to look at and try to replicate in my drawing. I liked how all the fruit in the bowl
is close together with some of them overlapping, and how some of the grapes hanging out of the
bowl makes it look more authentic. I added detail and patterns to the bowl rather than leaving it
plain, which makes the drawing more interesting. I also liked how I added shading to parts of the
fruit and the bowl, this made it look more realistic and gave it depth.
What would you improve if you did it again?
If I were to draw this image again, I would make the outlines a bit darker and add more shading. I
would also add colours to bring it to life and make it eye-catching so it stands out. Colouring it would
also make it easier to identify what each of the fruits are.

Story Overview
Goldilocks and the Three Bears – Mama Bear, Papa Bear and Baby Bear were having breakfast together and while they
waited for their porridge to cool down, they went for a walk in the forest. Goldilocks sneaks into their house and decides
she is hungry so she tastes each bowl of porridge. Papa Bear’s porridge was too hot, Mama Bear’s was too cold, but Baby
Bear’s was just right. Goldilocks then wanted to sit down, so she sat on Papa Bear’s chair which was too big, she tried
Mama Bear’s which was also too big, but Baby Bear’s small chair was perfect, but then the chair broke to pieces. She then
decided she was very tired and needs to rest. She went up the stairs and tried Papa Bear’s bed which was too hard, she
tried Mama Bear’s which was too soft, but then finally tried Baby Bear’s which was just right, and there she fell asleep.
The bears returned and discovered someone had eaten their porridge. Then they saw someone had used their seats.
Then they noticed that someone had been sleeping in their beds, and was still in Baby Bear’s. Their shouts woke
Goldilocks up, and she was so frightened that she ran out the door and escaped into the forest.

Deadline
The deadline for my children’s book is 18th December.
Audience
My target audience would be children aged 5-7 as this is the age when children will
be most likely trying to build their reading skills, and start reading books with an
increased amount of text. My book is aimed at any gender, however as the main
character in the story is female, it may appeal more to girls than boys because they
might feel like they can relate to the character more.
Production Methods
I will create my children’s book in Photoshop and I’m going to use the rotoscope
technique to make my backgrounds and characters. This technique is simple to do
and will give me the precise shapes I want when creating my images, and this will
make them interesting for young children to look at. Each page will be provided with
text using a serif font from dafont.com that is clear and easy to read.
What are the strengths of the proposal? What areas of the proposal need further work?
It shows what is planned to be done which is
useful during production for the book. It is clear
and easy to understand.
Adding some more detail to the production methods
section could be something to improve on. You could
say why the technique you want to use will be useful.
What are the strengths of the idea generation? What areas of idea generation could have been
further developed?
The mind map is detailed in most areas and it shows
useful information about what is normally included in
children’s books. Good annotations on the mood
board to explain what you plan to include in your
book.
Some more ideas on the mind map for the story
you want to create.
What are the strengths of the proposal? What areas of the proposal need further work?
The proposal is good because it shows a good
amount of detail about your production methods and
you’ve explained why you have chosen your target
audience really well. The story line is explained with
the right amount of detail without writing too much.
You could go on to explain specifically some of
the things you will use the rotoscope technique
for, and say why you like using that technique.
What are the strengths of the idea generation? What areas of idea generation could have been
further developed?
Your mind map is good and detailed as it shows
different options off each bubble showing each
technique you might want to use, or different target
audiences you can consider. The mood board shows
clear ideas of the story you want to make, good
detail about the fonts you’ll use.
The mood board could use more detailed
annotations, and more images could be added to
show how you might want your characters to turn
out. You could also speak about the other
illustrations of the story and pick out what you like
and what you want to include in your own work, as
well as what you don’t like.
What are the strengths of the proposal? What areas of the proposal need further work?
Your story overview is very detailed and shows a
good understanding of what its about. Everything is
clear with a good amount of detail, it shows you have
thought everything through.
I can’t think of any improvements.
What are the strengths of the idea generation? What areas of idea generation could have been
further developed?
You have a clear vision of what you want your book
to turn out like, and I like how you have added
images of different book styles.
You could include more examples of previous
goldilocks books on the mood board to give you
more ideas and inspiration.
Feedback Summary
Sum up your feedback.
All of the feedback said that my planning was detailed and clear, but some said some areas needed
to be improved, such as adding more detail to the production methods. My feedback also said my
mind map and mood board were good, but there were a lot of areas for improvement in them, like
adding more annotations and images to my mood board so I could get more ideas.
Which parts of your feedback do you agree with and why?
After collecting my feedback and reading it, I agree with the parts that I could improve, like
expanding the detail on my production methods, and adding more things to my mood board. This
has helped me write more in the production methods section.
Which parts of your feedback do you disagree with and why?
I do not disagree with any of the feedback I have been given.

Once upon a time, there was a little girl named Goldilocks. She went for a walk in the forest. Pretty
soon, she came upon a house. She knocked and, when no one answered, she walked right in.
At the table in the kitchen, there were three bowls of porridge. Goldilocks was hungry. She tasted the
porridge from the first bowl.
"This porridge is too hot!" she exclaimed.
So, she tasted the porridge from the second bowl.
"This porridge is too cold," she said
So, she tasted the last bowl of porridge.
"Ahhh, this porridge is just right," she said happily and she ate it all up.
After she'd eaten the three bears' breakfasts she decided she was feeling a little tired. So, she walked
into the living room where she saw three chairs. Goldilocks sat in the first chair to rest her feet.
"This chair is too big!" she exclaimed.
So she sat in the second chair.
"This chair is too big, too!" she whined.
So she tried the last and smallest chair.
"Ahhh, this chair is just right," she sighed. But just as she settled down into the chair to rest, it broke
into pieces!
Goldilocks was very tired by this time, so she went upstairs to the bedroom. She lay down in the first
bed, but it was too hard. Then she lay in the second bed, but it was too soft. Then she lay down in the
third bed and it was just right. Goldilocks fell asleep.
Original Script
As she was sleeping, the three bears came home.
"Someone's been eating my porridge," growled the Papa bear.
"Someone's been eating my porridge," said the Mama bear.
"Someone's been eating my porridge and they ate it all up!" cried the Baby bear.
"Someone's been sitting in my chair," growled the Papa bear.
"Someone's been sitting in my chair," said the Mama bear.
"Someone's been sitting in my chair and they've broken it all to pieces," cried the Baby
bear.
They decided to look around some more and when they got upstairs to the bedroom,
Papa bear growled, "Someone's been sleeping in my bed,"
"Someone's been sleeping in my bed, too" said the Mama bear
"Someone's been sleeping in my bed and she's still there!" exclaimed Baby bear.
Just then, Goldilocks woke up and saw the three bears. She screamed, "Help!" And she
jumped up and ran out of the room. Goldilocks ran down the stairs, opened the door,
and ran away into the forest. And she never returned to the home of the three bears.

Goldilocks ran down the stairs, opened the door and ran away back through the forest. She never returned to house
of the three bears again.

Development pro forma

  • 3. Evaluation What did you like about your image? It was a full body image of a llama so it was easy to place shapes over it to and warp them into the right size and outline, and it portrays the exact shape of it. The llama didn’t have a lot of detail on it, apart from fur which I didn’t include. I added the nose, an eye and the dark inner part of its ears to add some more detail to the face, which made it look a lot more life like. What would you improve if you did it again? I would make it look more realistic by adding textures, gradients and shadows instead of just having one block colour, this would bring it more to life. I would spend more time refining the shapes to get the exact shape of the llama’s body parts so it doesn’t look as messy, such as the legs and the head. If I had more time I would have maybe made the background more interesting instead of block green, by creating an abstract background using different colours.
  • 5. Evaluation What did you like about your image? I liked how I could get the precise outline and shapes for the reindeer by using the polygonal lasso tool, which was much easier to do than when I just had to use shapes for the shape task. It was also quicker to do as I didn’t have to spend time warping the shapes. I also liked how I added detail to the reindeer, like the face and the different patches of colour on its body, this made it look more realistic. What would you improve if you did it again? Some parts look quite messy because some parts of the body didn’t completely get filled with colour, particularly the legs, so I would spend more time improving that area to fill in the gaps. I would also add more detail, such as fur texture, to make it look more real.
  • 7. Evaluation What did you like about your image? I like the texts on the right best where I added the image of the pizza into the writing because it makes it look much more interesting and creative and not like a plain font with block colour. I also liked the text that I warped and added a gradient to because made it look more colourful and less boring which makes it more appealing to look at. Warping the text made it look more interesting than just keeping the normal font shape. I liked how I added the strokes to my texts because it made the words stand out and clearer to read. What would you improve if you did it again? If I did it again I could experiment with more techniques, such as pattern overlay and drop shadow, and I could try distorting the text in different ways. I would also use more images to create clipping masks with different fonts and sizes

  • 11. Evaluation What did you like about your image? I liked how I posterized my images but I didn’t make them too abstract so you can still tell who’s in the photos. In the first image I liked how the eyes are dark as this adds depth and detail, and this is the image I like the best as it has the most colour. In the hair I liked how the end parts are dark and shadowed but a lot of it is highlighted, this adds a nice contrast. In the second image, I liked how you can distinctly see the facial features, such as the freckles and facial hair, this makes it very detailed but not overly realistic. In the last image of Leonardo DiCaprio, I liked how the effect I used gave a red-ish colour that looks almost as if its glowing and it looks very warm. What would you improve if you did it again? If I could use this technique again, I would experiment with using more colours to keep the images looking interesting.
  • 13. Evaluation What did you like about your image? Each photo we took captured a different mood: happy, lonely, sad and excitement. I liked how the emotions that we had to portray were very accurate, especially the lonely and sad images. The person in those photos doesn’t show his face and he is alone which shows sadness and isolation. The lighting in the images is quite dark which contrasts with the two other happy and upbeat photographs. What would you improve if you did it again? If I had to take the photos again I would have a different setting for the happy and excited photos, I might include more people in the background for these images to make them seem like they’re taken in a positive environment, and to make them contrast even more with the sad and lonely images.
  • 15. Evaluation What did you like about your image? Instead of drawing a picture from my imagination, I decided to use the internet to search for an image of a fruit bowl to look at and try to replicate in my drawing. I liked how all the fruit in the bowl is close together with some of them overlapping, and how some of the grapes hanging out of the bowl makes it look more authentic. I added detail and patterns to the bowl rather than leaving it plain, which makes the drawing more interesting. I also liked how I added shading to parts of the fruit and the bowl, this made it look more realistic and gave it depth. What would you improve if you did it again? If I were to draw this image again, I would make the outlines a bit darker and add more shading. I would also add colours to bring it to life and make it eye-catching so it stands out. Colouring it would also make it easier to identify what each of the fruits are.

  • 19. Dimensions 16 pages, 25.8 x 22.8 cm Story Overview Goldilocks and the Three Bears – Mama Bear, Papa Bear and Baby Bear were having breakfast together and while they waited for their porridge to cool down, they went for a walk in the forest. Goldilocks sneaks into their house and decides she is hungry so she tastes each bowl of porridge. Papa Bear’s porridge was too hot, Mama Bear’s was too cold, but Baby Bear’s was just right. Goldilocks then wanted to sit down, so she sat on Papa Bear’s chair which was too big, she tried Mama Bear’s which was also too big, but Baby Bear’s small chair was perfect, but then the chair broke to pieces. She then decided she was very tired and needs to rest. She went up the stairs and tried Papa Bear’s bed which was too hard, she tried Mama Bear’s which was too soft, but then finally tried Baby Bear’s which was just right, and there she fell asleep. The bears returned and discovered someone had eaten their porridge. Then they saw someone had used their seats. Then they noticed that someone had been sleeping in their beds, and was still in Baby Bear’s. Their shouts woke Goldilocks up, and she was so frightened that she ran out the door and escaped into the forest. • 20. Deadline The deadline for my children’s book is 18th December. Audience My target audience would be children aged 5-7 as this is the age when children will be most likely trying to build their reading skills, and start reading books with an increased amount of text. My book is aimed at any gender, however as the main character in the story is female, it may appeal more to girls than boys because they might feel like they can relate to the character more. Production Methods I will create my children’s book in Photoshop and I’m going to use the rotoscope technique to make my backgrounds and characters. This technique is simple to do and will give me the precise shapes I want when creating my images, and this will make them interesting for young children to look at. Each page will be provided with text using a serif font from dafont.com that is clear and easy to read.
  • 21. What are the strengths of the proposal? What areas of the proposal need further work? It shows what is planned to be done which is useful during production for the book. It is clear and easy to understand. Adding some more detail to the production methods section could be something to improve on. You could say why the technique you want to use will be useful. What are the strengths of the idea generation? What areas of idea generation could have been further developed? The mind map is detailed in most areas and it shows useful information about what is normally included in children’s books. Good annotations on the mood board to explain what you plan to include in your book. Some more ideas on the mind map for the story you want to create.
  • 22. What are the strengths of the proposal? What areas of the proposal need further work? The proposal is good because it shows a good amount of detail about your production methods and you’ve explained why you have chosen your target audience really well. The story line is explained with the right amount of detail without writing too much. You could go on to explain specifically some of the things you will use the rotoscope technique for, and say why you like using that technique. What are the strengths of the idea generation? What areas of idea generation could have been further developed? Your mind map is good and detailed as it shows different options off each bubble showing each technique you might want to use, or different target audiences you can consider. The mood board shows clear ideas of the story you want to make, good detail about the fonts you’ll use. The mood board could use more detailed annotations, and more images could be added to show how you might want your characters to turn out. You could also speak about the other illustrations of the story and pick out what you like and what you want to include in your own work, as well as what you don’t like.
  • 23. What are the strengths of the proposal? What areas of the proposal need further work? Your story overview is very detailed and shows a good understanding of what its about. Everything is clear with a good amount of detail, it shows you have thought everything through. I can’t think of any improvements. What are the strengths of the idea generation? What areas of idea generation could have been further developed? You have a clear vision of what you want your book to turn out like, and I like how you have added images of different book styles. You could include more examples of previous goldilocks books on the mood board to give you more ideas and inspiration.
  • 24. Feedback Summary Sum up your feedback. All of the feedback said that my planning was detailed and clear, but some said some areas needed to be improved, such as adding more detail to the production methods. My feedback also said my mind map and mood board were good, but there were a lot of areas for improvement in them, like adding more annotations and images to my mood board so I could get more ideas. Which parts of your feedback do you agree with and why? After collecting my feedback and reading it, I agree with the parts that I could improve, like expanding the detail on my production methods, and adding more things to my mood board. This has helped me write more in the production methods section. Which parts of your feedback do you disagree with and why? I do not disagree with any of the feedback I have been given.
  • 31. Original Script http://www.dltk-teach.com/rhymes/goldilocks_story.htm Once upon a time, there was a little girl named Goldilocks. She went for a walk in the forest. Pretty soon, she came upon a house. She knocked and, when no one answered, she walked right in. At the table in the kitchen, there were three bowls of porridge. Goldilocks was hungry. She tasted the porridge from the first bowl. "This porridge is too hot!" she exclaimed. So, she tasted the porridge from the second bowl. "This porridge is too cold," she said So, she tasted the last bowl of porridge. "Ahhh, this porridge is just right," she said happily and she ate it all up. After she'd eaten the three bears' breakfasts she decided she was feeling a little tired. So, she walked into the living room where she saw three chairs. Goldilocks sat in the first chair to rest her feet. "This chair is too big!" she exclaimed. So she sat in the second chair. "This chair is too big, too!" she whined. So she tried the last and smallest chair. "Ahhh, this chair is just right," she sighed. But just as she settled down into the chair to rest, it broke into pieces! Goldilocks was very tired by this time, so she went upstairs to the bedroom. She lay down in the first bed, but it was too hard. Then she lay in the second bed, but it was too soft. Then she lay down in the third bed and it was just right. Goldilocks fell asleep.

"Someone's been sitting in my chair and they've broken it all to pieces," cried the Baby bear. They decided to look around some more and when they got upstairs to the bedroom, Papa bear growled, "Someone's been sleeping in my bed," "Someone's been sleeping in my bed, too" said the Mama bear "Someone's been sleeping in my bed and she's still there!" exclaimed Baby bear. Just then, Goldilocks woke up and saw the three bears. She screamed, "Help!" And she jumped up and ran out of the room. Goldilocks ran down the stairs, opened the door, and ran away into the forest. And she never returned to the home of the three bears.

She never returned to house of the three bears again.
