3. Evaluation
I like the use of the textures from the original image to enhance my image, it
gives it a more realistic aesthetic. I also feel that the relatively muted colour
palette within the feathers and the owl itself create a more 3D appearance.
The background is not in detail and this makes the viewer focus on the
subject matter further.
If I were to do this again I would try and blend the foreground and
background more together to create a more wholesome image rather than a
static object in the middle of the frame.
I would also use more shades of green in the background to balance all the
different shades of brown in the feathers to even up the overall effect.
5. Evaluation
I like how realist the cow looks and yet animated. I also like the fact that I
managed to get rid of the cows that were in the original background by using
the same segment of grass to cover over them, this also made the
background look more animated. It is also not obvious that I have used this
technique to do this.
To improve my image, I would focus more on the shading of the cows face as
it is one block colour compared to the rest of the cow where there is shading
and textured used to give it a more realistic effect.
7. Evaluation
I like the way the image shows through the letters yet you can still clearly read
my name. I also like how I used the shade of pink from the sky min the
background, this makes it blend in but because there is only a small amount
of this shade of pink in the sky, it isn’t too prominent like a contrasting colour
would be.
I would put more of an angle on the words rather than bending them. I would
also make both of the words the same size.
9. Evaluation
I like how the colours are exaggerated in this image to give a cartoon
aesthetic. The image is highly saturated which gives the image the contrast
of the exaggerated colours.
If I did this image again, I would make the edges of the person more blurred
to make it more cartoon like. I would also use a filter like ‘plastic wrap’
because this would help me achieve the cartoon/blurred look I wanted to
accomplish.
11. Evaluation
I like how the photos show the emotions we were given to show around
college. These emotions were; happiness, excitement and sadness. I feel that
these photos show the emotions effectively as there wasn’t a lot of choice of
things to choose from in college to show them. The first photo is to show
excitement, the second is sadness and the third is happiness. We showed
excitement by showing friends together, happiness with food and sadness by
being alone in a secluded part of college.
If I were to do these photos again, I would use the same person in each photo
to show their emotion more clearly and I would, if possible use different
locations that weren’t just in college. I would also use some sort of filter to
make it lighter or darker depending on the emotions I was trying to show.
13. Evaluation
I like how the drawing is very similar to the scene from ‘E.T’ that I was
copying. I like how they are shadowed by the light of the moon which made it
easier to draw as there wasn’t as much attention to detail needed as there
would have been if they weren’t shadows.
If I were to to this drawing again, I would either use dark blue paper or colour
paper in dark blue, I would then use white and light blue chalk to do the
moon and smudge it to create a misty effect, I would then use a blue fine tip
felt tip to create the shadow of the characters.

Story Overview
My story is called “Bernard the Unicorn”. It is about a fairy who hasn’t gained his horn
yet because he hasn’t granted his first wish. This makes Bernard different from all the
other unicorns. Whilst contemplating his horn, he meets someone who needs a wish
granting, this is when Bernard gains his horn and also discovers that he doesn’t need
the other unicorns approval and that its okay to be on your own as long as you’re
happy.
23. Production Methods
I will only have one background, a park, so I will only need to rotoscope one image
of a park and add the rotoscoped image of Simon Cowell, I used Simon Cowell as a
character to have an image already there to use. The hand drawn and rotoscoped
image of Bernard to this background and move them around accordingly.
Audience
My target audience is children aged 5-7. This is because my story is beginning to
have more words for them to learn and help develop their reading as, this is the age
the books develop from being mainly illustrations, to words helped by the
illustrations. I also intend to aim at both genders. I did this by making the main
character a male fairy and it isn’t your stereotypical fairy story where generally the
main fairy is a woman in a big dress with a wand. I also added Simon Cowell into the
story as adults buying the story will be more inclined to get a story with a humorous
element involved. They will know who he is so they will be able to relate to the fact
that they know what he is famous for.

24. What are the strengths of the proposal? What areas of the proposal need further work?
The proposal is very long and detailed and gives a
great deal of important information that summarises
the many different features of the proposed story.
There was especially good detail given in the
Audience section of the proposal where the
reasons that were given for how the book would
appeal to different targeted audiences were well
explained.
Some areas of the proposal were not consistent
with the final product, as many of the story
elements that were proposed here were replaced or
changed in the final draft. However, this is
understandable as many things can change when it
comes to the actual creation of the book.
What are the strengths of the idea generation? What areas of idea generation could have been
further developed?
The idea generation for this story is extremely
extensive and spans over multiple slides, showing
idea generation for multiple different story elements
and characters in great detail. Each mood board is
very detailed showing a wide and useful range of
images for characters and background and other
story elements, and the mind map is very readable
with large, clear text despite being handwritten and
photographed.
Some of the mood boards, the mood board for the
character of Bernard, do not have images and
inspiration that is in-keeping and consistent with the
final product as the character later became a
unicorn instead of a humanoid appearing fairy.
25. What are the strengths of the proposal? What areas of the proposal need further work?
Your proposal is very strong and clearly states what
your story is about. It also has a lot of detail of why
you are doing your story & how you intend to make
it appealing towards your audience. You summarise
the facts which will make your audience want to
buy your story.
There is nothing to improve in the proposal as you
have told what you are aiming to do & how to do it.
This may change towards final drafts for your
product, which may need to be updated on the
proposal.
What are the strengths of the idea generation? What areas of idea generation could have been
further developed?
You idea generation is very well done & is strong
throughout. You have created different idea
generations based on specific elements in your
story. Your mind map states detail throughout on
different topics you have covered like your
characters. Research for your ideas is strong
throughout with multiple options to work from.
The idea generation is strong and doesn’t need any
improvements. You have created a vast amount of
options so you don’t need to look at getting more
ideas.
26. What are the strengths of the proposal? What areas of the proposal need further work?
Story is very clear which is an achievement given
that it is not a standard fairy tale. Lots of detail
about the audience as well. This is good. Good
explanation of how you are making this appeal to
the audience.
Production methods section is quite brief and not
that ambitious. To produce a good book which will
engage audience I think you would need more than
one background.
What are the strengths of the idea generation? What areas of idea generation could have been
further developed?
This is really detailed work. The mind map gets
your ideas going. Each element has been thought
about. Additional mood boards and character
sketches help add detail. Comparison with similar
products is also good.
Mind map could have more detail or there could be
a second exploring some different ideas. There are
so many options in the rest of the work I think a few
annotations would let us see what you are thinking.
27. Feedback Summary
Sum up your feedback.
I think that overall my feedback was positive, however it was also very clear of what I
needed to do to improve my work. I need to add a more updated version of ideas for my
book as it changed quite a lot since the first draft of ideas.
Which parts of your feedback do you agree with and why?
I agree with most parts of my feedback as it highlighted things I already knew I needed
to change. It also highlighted things that I already knew were good about my research
like different mood boards for different aspects of my book.
Which parts of your feedback do you disagree with and why?
There isn’t anything that I don’t agree with in my feedback as I already knew that these
things needed looking at and changing.
33. Once upon a time, not so long ago, there was a
happy, helpful unicorn named Bernard.
The only problem was, Bernard wasn’t your
average unicorn, this made the other unicorns
be horrible to Bernard. This was because he
hadn’t got his horn yet.
To gain his horn, Bernard had to grant the wish
of anyone in need. But unfortunately, people
didn’t expect a unicorn to look like Bernard..
34. H e l l o .
Hello.
What’s
wrong?
I can’t spot
talent
anymore!
I’m sorry but
who are you?
I’M SIMON COWELL!
35. Well Mr. Cowell, I don’t
know who you are but
I’m happy to help! For
you see, I have the
power to grant you one
wish!
But how can I repay you
for this?
Don’t worry! By granting
this wish, I gain my horn,
its what I really want!
Well, I wish to
have my talent
spotting abilities

ummmm….
Unicorn!
Bernard! And
your wish is my

36. And as fast as a bolt of
lightening, Simon was free
from his curse and Bernard
got the biggest and most
beautiful horn ever seen!
