Vocabulary. Home office
setup
My workspace is clean, bright and minimalist.
There aren’t that many things on my desk. There is
a keyboard, a mouse, a small stack of books and a
headset I use for work.
As a software developer, I need to write and
review a lot of code so those two huge computer
monitors you can see in the picture are absolutely
essential to me. There is always a lot of natural
light in my room because my chair faces a giant
window. It is not distracting to me at all. On the
contrary, it helps me focus. One thing I really
want to buy is a plant for my desk. There aren’t
any plants on my desk at the moment.
Questions:
Is your workspace minimalist or cluttered?
What helps you focus when you work?
Vocabulary. Home office
setup I’m a creative person. Self-organization isn’t something
I am good at so my home office gets messy sometimes.
However, I always do my best to keep it nicely
organized. Right now, my office setup is very simple.
As you can see, there is a desk with a single computer
monitor and two of my laptops on the right. There is
also a printer to my left. Actually, I think it takes up too
much space so I probably need to move it somewhere
else. There are some of my black and white photos and a
wooden shelf above the desk. On top of the shelf,
there are my photo cameras. There is also a shelf rack
in the right corner where I keep my books and
accessories like headphones and various small
gadgets. There is a guitar in the far left corner of my
room. I like to play it during rest breaks. Luckily, you
cannot see what is behind my rolling chair. There is a lot
of mess there!
Questions:
Do you organize your desk before work?
Do you take breaks from work during the day?
What do you do?
Prepositions of place
On - на
In - у/в
Next to /near - поруч
Above - над
Under - під
On top of (the shelf) - зверху
On the left / on the right - ліворуч /
праворуч
To (my) right / to (my) left - ліворуч
/ праворуч (від мене)
Opposite (me) - навпроти
In front of - перед
Behind - позаду
Practice
Describe your office setup using there is / there are. Mention things
that are:
1. On the left
2. On the right
3. Behind you
4. Above you
5. Right next to you
6. Opposite you
7. In the middle of your room
Pronunciation tip
O - [o: ]/[(ou)] / [a]
[O] contract, block, opposite, organize, stop, top, office, floor, also
All = [o:] call, small, tall, fall
[ (ou)] those, code, go, home, also, open, close, load, photo, post
[A:] company, above, some, come, love
Soft Skills
We often use impersonal constructions (like there is / there are) to point out
mistakes because impersonal constructions sound more polite.
I think (I believe) there is a mistake in this sentence (polite)
You made a mistake in this sentence (rude)
Let’s practice pointing out mistakes in UI / UX design.
What is UX design?
Can you think of any common mistakes in UX
design?
Some common UX design mistakes are:
★ Lack of white space (there isn’t enough
white space)
★ Too much text
★ Lack of color contrast
★ No call-to-action button
Practice. What’s wrong?
Look at the pictures and identify UX mistakes. Use constructions there is / there are to point them
out
Practice. What’s wrong?
Look at the pictures and identify UX mistakes. Use constructions there is / there are to point them
out
There isn’t any button for a user to find and click quickly. The only button that takes you to
the next page is that really small button in the top right corner and it is very difficult to notice
it.
Your turn. What’s wrong with these web pages?
Your turn. What’s wrong with these web pages?
Your turn. What’s wrong with these web pages?
Speaking
Ask questions to your peers to find out more about their home and
surroundings.
E.g. Is there a painting in your apartment?
Are there any plants in your room?
Come up with (create) at least 5 questions
HW
Describe one of the following.
● Your dream workspace
● Any room in your home
● A restaurant / cafe you love
● Use an AR app (like IKEA Place) to virtually furnish your room and
describe the results
Focus on describing the interior. Don’t forget to use there is / there are
That’s a wrap!

  • 24. Vocabulary. Home office setup My workspace is clean, bright and minimalist. There aren’t that many things on my desk. There is a keyboard, a mouse, a small stack of books and a headset I use for work. As a software developer, I need to write and review a lot of code so those two huge computer monitors you can see in the picture are absolutely essential to me. There is always a lot of natural light in my room because my chair faces a giant window. It is not distracting to me at all. On the contrary, it helps me focus. One thing I really want to buy is a plant for my desk. There aren’t any plants on my desk at the moment.

  • 26. Vocabulary. Home office setup I’m a creative person. Self-organization isn’t something I am good at so my home office gets messy sometimes. However, I always do my best to keep it nicely organized. Right now, my office setup is very simple. As you can see, there is a desk with a single computer monitor and two of my laptops on the right. There is also a printer to my left. Actually, I think it takes up too much space so I probably need to move it somewhere else. There are some of my black and white photos and a wooden shelf above the desk. On top of the shelf, there are my photo cameras. There is also a shelf rack in the right corner where I keep my books and accessories like headphones and various small gadgets. There is a guitar in the far left corner of my room. I like to play it during rest breaks. Luckily, you cannot see what is behind my rolling chair. There is a lot of mess there!
