4. Historical Event Deep Dive
• Each time a Roman emperor died in York there was a battle that followed to see
who the successor would be. The first emperor Severus had two sons Caracalla
and Geta who when they arrived at Rome Caracalla had his brother Geta
assassinated.
• King Edwin of Deira( North Umbria) the Anglo Saxon was christened after a
campaign against the kingdom of Wessex which was successful he was christened
in a wooden church dedicated to St. Peter on Easter Sunday in 627AD
• The Vikings made a surprise attack on York to take it, it was very effective as they
decided to attack on All Saints Day it worked but they didn’t capture or kill either
of the kings of Umbria. However York was taken back and then during the second
attack on York the Vikings killed Aelle and Osbert both kings in North Umbria.
• The battle of Stamford Bridge English forces lead by Harold Godwinson and the
Norwegian side was ruled by Harold Hardrada and the oppositions brother Tostig
Godwinson the Vikings were massacred.
• The Normans built two castles when they reached York Cliffords Tower and what is
now York castle museum and then the rebellion happened and William the
Conquerors men were massacred at the forts and then William claimed his
revenge by sending his main force to York and wiping out all the rebelling forces
made up of Anglo Saxon nobles and a main force of Vikings.
5. Historical Event Deep Dive Part 2
• Then there was the massacre of the Jews where the towns
people of York as well as the Normans herded up all the
Jewish community in York which was about 150 people and
they were all held up in where now stands Cliffords Tower
they broke down the door and killed them all.
• In the medieval era the black Plague reached York it lasted
a year about half the members of the Parish Priests had
died and the number of crafts and arts men made freemen
increased dramatically with in this time period.
• In the Victorian era a guy called John Martin when it
became dark in the York Minster he went to the choir piled
up all the cushions and prayer books and set them alight
the fire was spotted in the morning and the fire was too
much to be put out until the end of the day.
6. What I Believe Interests People In
Buying Games
• Gameplay
• Historical Events
• Plot/ story
• Art
• Pride in completion
• The evolution as the game/ game series continues onto
the next one
• Mystery/ what it is going to be what it is going to be
like how will it play.
• Escapism
• Anger management
7. Video Game Demographics
• As of 2018 males played 12% more videogames than females
in the UK.
• In each and every year 16-24 year olds play the most video
games in the UK.
• Most games are now played on Phone which is closely
followed by console in the UK.
8. Video games similar to what I want to
create
• Civilization
• Assassins Creed
• Witcher
• X-com
• Ryse son of Rome
• AFK Arena
• Idle Civiliziation
• Idle Worship
• Age of War
9. Audience
• My primary audience will be female because they enjoy spending time with in the city and to an
extent quite a few of them play videogames also they make up the majority of the population with
in York My primary age will be 16-24/ young adults, because that is also the group that enjoys to
play video games also they enjoy being out in the city with friends. My primary class will be upper
middle class as they are mainly the sort of people you see wandering about the city sight seeing
and according to the demographics I found they also enjoy video games not the most but they still
enjoy them. My primary Psychographic Socially Conscious Type A because they actually care about
the world around them and they would also most likely have a positive reaction towards the
product given to them, however I don’t know whether or not they would be to into video games
and that sort of thing.
• My Secondary Audience will be Male because a majority of males play videogames and enjoy them
and they also enjoy spending time with people in the city and they are also my secondary audience
because they are in the minority in York only just though. My secondary age for my audience will be
25-44/ adults, as you can usually find this age group wherever you go in York also they are the
second best age group for video games. My secondary class audience will be middle class because
there is a big difference between upper and middle class and there is a very small gap between
upper middle class and middle class and thus the demographic pretty much stays the same so all
the information from the primary audience. My secondary psychographic will be the belonger
because they are part of the community in the York area they will be interested in new things and
would probably try to back it up if it is any good.
10. Further audience profile
• In the last 10 years the employment rate for 16-24 year olds has increased steadily.
• When you look at the rest of the population them employment rate has been
steadily decreasing.
• Most of the middle class have a job and also have a shorter attention span so
make whatever it is short or make it so you can leave it for another time.
• The issues that affect this group according to the demographics is mental illness
75% of mental illness is established by 24 and by 14 50% are established.
• They travel mainly abroad but just away from the same view would probably do.
• They also like technology such as laptops, PC, console and phones
• They also enjoy Social media.
• Internet
• They dislike Managing mobile data
• Fake News.
12. Assassin’s Creed 2 review
Analysis
• Almost everything had improved from the last
game, it also has a fantastic narrative.
• It also looks great with both its graphics and
its designs it also has a massive amount of
content besides the main questline.
• The missions are great but incredibly
repetetive.
14. CIV 6 review
Analysis
• These people wanted a more realistic view of their troops
such as what was offered in CIV 5 which was fairly detailed
in its designs one of the people said that this game a sort of
childish feel to it.
• They also seems to be very into the tactics side of the game
which means maybe I should lean towards tower defence
kind of games and then somehow have weave in my story
to the game.
• The last thing that I hould really pick up on is the flow some
one mentioned which I guess is how the game plays it must
be fairly cluncky so I should try and keep the designs
smooth same goes for if the game was actually developed
the animation.
15. Entertain, challenge, inform, educate
• I will entertain my audience by using engaging
techniques such as interactivity, story telling. I
won’t really challenge them as the game is
either going to be an idle game or a tower
defence game. I would inform them by using
the story telling side game and fill it with some
interesting conversations about the history of
York and I would educate them by using titles
historical facts.
16. Production techniques
• I am going to be using quite a lot of story telling to make the history
come across a little bit more naturally than if I had just decided to
put in historical facts while the player is trying to concentrate on
how the game plays they don’t want to be disturbed by random
messages just popping up out of nowhere. I was planning for the
colour scheme I would go with darker colours with some earthy
ones mixed in just to see how it looks but the main reasoning
behind it is that there were a lot of dark times in the past of York
which also kind of goes along well with the dark ages? Just as a
thought but not as a part of the project I would have added some
form of interactivity so it would be like if you deviate from what
happened in these historical events you would have to restart at
one of the checkpoints that will be added into the game concepts.
18. Existing Products
Age of War
• Age of War is a game which can either be played on PC
or phone. It is a tower defence game with tactics
where you can attack your enemies base the person to
destroy the others base first wins, the art style goes for
a mixture of realism and cartoon like style, it also uses
a lot of bright colours to entice a lot of different
audiences to play it the animations are great, it looks
as if it was made fairly easily with only really an attack
animation and a walking animation, however the art
style is fairly complex though making it more difficult,
it also has a fairly fantastic menu system which is easy
to navigate and they also are neat and tidy.
20. Exisitng Product
Assassin’s Creed 2
• Assassin’s Creed 2 has a fantastic realistic art
style the graphics are a bit dated because of
how old the game is but the style is great and
the animation is incredibly smooth. They use a
massive amount of varied colours in their
colour palates, however though the games
menus can be a bit awkward to navigate but
they are very neat and tidy and they are
tucked away until you need them.
22. Existing product
CIV 5
• CIV 5 is a great game which is based around the
evolution of any of the civilizations you are given
to play with you win by either scoring points or
by completing trees in science and other
objectives such as the political win or military
win. This game has a great design for its art style
and it is fairly complex and the animation goes
fairly well with it however quite a lot of people
still complain about it and it yet again also has a
fantastic colour palate which uses a lot of light
and dark colours which contrast easily and makes
the game more enjoyable .
