2. Audience
โข Fans of D&D style content โ theyโd be heavily interested with the
fantasy world I have made for them as well as the fact the game would
involve the protagonist fighting dragons.
โข Predominantly male audience โ traditional gaming market, also have
a general interest in D&D content.
โข Teenage upwards, about 15 and upwards โ traditional gaming market.
โข C1, C2, D, E of social status โ these are the groups in the most need
for escapism through creative texts, also the most socially active and
available of them.
โข People with a general interest of medieval fiction
3. Rationale
โข Over the last year I feel that I have improved my creative thinking
when it comes to new projects, particularly when there is a genre
spec involved, such as for this project needing to be based on the
adventure film genre. This improvement on creative thinking I think is
a culmination of the 4 previous years I have been studying media,
since GCSEs.
โข I am particularly excited to tackle the printed media section given
how successful my quality of production has been with that sort of
media in the past and how I continue to enjoy doing so to this day.
4. Project concept
โข The concept for my project is based on the adventure of a lone medieval-time warrior called Elric,
whoโs parents were killed when he was a child, by the tyrannical King Edmund. He flees from their
execution, meeting up with a wizard, Wilfrid the Wise, with whom he stays with for the following
decade. When he is old enough, he sets off on his journey to restore freedom to the kingdom and
dethrone the king.
โข Design-wise, the focus from the start of the journey is set in the rural parts of the kingdom
Ingsmead, filled with trees, grass and small settlements of the civilians, who all have small tasks
for Elric to help them improve their situation. No matter how big or little impact they each have
on the story, each task would grant a reward for Elric, whether it be new items or money. Some
may even decide to help out Elric on his quest as a thank you for him helping them out. Wilfrid
will also produce new weapons and magical powers as Elric continues his journey.
โข For research I looked at gameplay footage from the 1991 SNES game The Legend of Zelda: A Link
to the Past, which features concepts and ideas that I decided to incorporated into my concept,
such as the hero setting off on a quest to defeat an evil tyrant. I also decided to buy the video
game Sonic and the Black Knight, which takes the long-term Sega mascot and takes him into the
Arthurian period, which inspired me in deciding what my colour scheme should look like for
particular areas in the game โ for example, the game starts with the level Misty Lake, a rural
section of the gameโs map, featuring a mix of greyish-greens and browns for the grass and trees
as well as the small amount of civilians.
5. Production techniques
โข I think the most crucial skill that is going to be relevant to this project
is going to be artwork and creation of pixel art, as I think most of my
artwork is going to be computerised, including the poster and printed
work. Some of the initial designs may be done on paper and later fine
lined and scanned onto a photoshop-esque software, such as
photopea, in order to create and produce for a poster and other print
products for the project.
โข I highly doubt that I will utilise any sort of photographic or image
based production techniques during the production process for my
adventure project.
6. Evaluation
โข Iโm intending to evaluate the work piece-by-piece, day-by-day, taking
screenshots and photos of the work as it progresses onwards until the
project is completed. Iโll intend to create a powerpoint presentation
of how I feel about particular areas of the work I have done for each
particular day.
