department became shorthanded. I floated to all different areas of the surgery department
and often helped in the recovery room and was ultimately trained to work in that area
permanently.

In this position I transcribed physician’s orders for the child and adolescent unit which
included re-organizing the department to make it more functional and effective at the
manager’s request. I was also given the position of purchasing for the department of all
the supplies needed to function. I was also privileged to sit in on and assist with group
sessions when time permitted. I was later asked to float to the other departments in the
hospital to assist them. I also cross-trained to assist the pediatrician in H&P’s and
performed phlebotomy for history and physicals since this was part of my training.
