Production Diary
PROGRESS UPDATE PLAN FOR NEXT MONTH / WEEK (Including Possible
Contingency Plans If Problems Anticipated)
September 2013
(Detailed Monthly Summary)
The induction introduced us the A2 coursework for this year, for
the first 2 weeks I chose to create a music video where I started
creating my ancillary album cover. Although after the 2 weeks, I
discontinued creating this and instead I created a newspaper. Also
I have finished creating my billboard analysis by analysing the
audience, colour, layout where I can apply from what I learned last
year, text and masthead. I have also started to create my billboard
ancillary calling my billboard ‘Tabloid Manchester’ and ‘Daily
Manchester’ where I’ve used sets of colours to create the billboard
for mainstream audiences.
As I have used the time to create an ancillary album
cover which covered for 2 weeks, I want to make up
that time into finishing both of my billboard ancillaries
and start with the newspaper analysis.
October 2013
I have finished creating both of my billboard ancillaries by using
the same font and using different colours where I think my second
ancillary is better than the first one that I did and I have started to
create my 3 newspaper research by using Lacey’s repertoire of
elements and applying theories of narrative structures such as
Todorov’s, Levi’s etc.
I need to finish the newspaper research although I want
to create more rather than just 3 because I want to do
more research of how the newspaper is layed out as
well as the language used in these newspapers. For
tabloid newspaper they seem to use more informal
words rather than the broadsheet ones.
November 2013
I have started to analyse an extra newspaper front cover and 1
second page. I have also started to create an ideas generation map
where I broke down my ideas into sections including camera shots,
genre, story ideas as well as
Doing more extra research gave me a greater advantage
of identifying columns and pictures for my layout plan.
For my ideas generation map I need to finish this by
next week so I can move on to conduct the conventions
of radio advertising report.
December 2013
By this month I decided that I wanted to finish my product
research for my newspaper coursework. I have started and
finished to create 3 Billboard analysis where this involves the types
of font, slogan, logo and the phrases they use as well as the layout
including colours used. I have also finished analysing the extra
three newspaper research where I have also researched one
second page. Also this month, I have finished the generation map
that I created.
After completing the ideas generation map, it gave me a
wide of options I could ask for my survey that I will
create next month and a wider options for people to
choose from as my survey will only involve ticking unless
they prefer to be specific. For next month, I want to
start typing up my ideas generation of my thoughts and
ideas of what I could do. Also for the report, I didn’t
have enough time to start this so I will also start this
next week instead.

Mon W/B 06/01/14
(Detailed Weekly Summary)
I have started to create a blank questionnaire through monkey
survey.com. I have made this very simple to the readers by
breaking this down into common options that people would tend
to use as an answer. To make this more suitable, I tend to use
‘Other’ option where I also put in brackets ‘(Please Specify) which
would give me a greater advantage of what they actually read.
I realised that if I want to type up my ideas generation I
think I should first complete creating the survey as well
as the collected data. Now that I have finished creating
my survey I will have to wait for at least 2 weeks to get
at least 10 responders who is interested in participating
in this survey.
Mon W/B 13/01/14
I have finished creating the survey which now I will have to wait for
at least 10 responders to participate in my survey. I have also
started to create my radio advertising research where I have used
from different sources such as books, internet, etc. This gave me a
great advantage of the ways of how to advertise radio and what
the conventions are.
By next I week I want the radio advertising research to
be finished as well as by next week I should have
finished collecting my data. During the weekend I
looked at broadsheet newspapers from my locale area
which I think gave me more ideas of what I should do.
Mon W/B 20/01/14
I have finished creating the conventions of radio advertising
research where I have analysed each of the sources that I found
and I have collected the data from my survey from which 12
potential people who were high school/college and university
responded.
After looking at the results, the people who told me
about my survey said that there was something wrong
with it. During the weekend I will fix this problem and
start on my market research report.
Mon W/B 27/01/14
I have fixed the problem with the results of my survey and I have
started to create my market research report from the results in
survey monkey where it analyses the amount of people who chose
an option for each of the question. I will also start on my layout
plans that I want to use for my final piece and this will guide me of
the types of columns and the format of what I could use.
By next week I want to finish my layout plans as soon as
possible so I can start my final piece of creating a front
cover and a second page for my newspaper. I also want
to start on my masthead designs so I know what type of
colour I should use for my newspaper.
Mon W/B 03/02/14
I have finished my layout plans and is uploaded in blog and started
designing my masthead ideas. Also I have finished with my market
research report by finishing the last question and is now uploaded
in blog.
By next week I want to finish my masthead design and
choose the one that I want to use for my final piece. I
also want to start on story drafts as soon as possible so I
could piece these features and is easy for me to sought
out in the end.
Mon W/B 10/02/14
Finished designing my masthead design and chosen final as well as
choosing final front and second page layouts which I will use for
my final piece. Also started with my story drafts for both pages.
I want to finish my story drafts and take pictures of
buildings during the holidays that I could use for my
final piece which would fit in my headlines.

Mon W/B 24/02/14
During the weekend I took more pictures of buildings/bridges at
the Lowry and Salford Quays. I thought these buildings make the
landmark of Manchester which will benefit in taking good photos.
To start adding mastheads in my chosen front cover
layout/applying and manipulating image and take more
photos in the weekends.
Mon W/B 03/03/14
I did not manage to take more pictures due to personal reasons
that were more important. This week I should start taking more
pictures for my front cover that would stand out the entire page.
Also I have also uploaded my photos of buildings in blog through
creating my contact sheet.
By next week I want to have started on my final piece
where I could choose my chosen layouts that are more
suitable for my pictures to be laid out.
Mon W/B 10/03/14
I have started to construct my newspaper front cover and second
page where at the front cover I applied my chosen masthead and
for the second page I have started to edit the pictures and apply
them in two of the boxes where they are meant to fit in.
By next week I want to have finished my story drafts so I
could start putting these story headlines on my pages. I
have also starting piecing few bits together which are
mastheads, photos and the advertisements.
Mon W/B 17/03/14
I have started and finished my first story draft in my second page
newspaper. I would need to wait for few days for my teacher to
mark before I insert this to my final second page that I want to
finish in 2 weeks.
By next week my teacher would have checked my
second story draft which then I can put in on my final
piece.
Mon W/B 24/03/14
I have finished my second and final story draft and I have sort out
the second page columns to put this in. I have also started on
creating the second headline from the side for my second page. I
have also started on the small headlines for my front page where I
created this on the side and the main headline.
I have finished creating my second page for my
newspaper and I think it’s going well. I used normal font
and bold headline as well as made up advertisement to
create the verisimilitude for my newspaper where this is
the only finishing touch that I need to do for my second
page. By next week I want to finish my front cover
where I have took outstanding pictures for my front
page.
Mon W/B 31/03/14
This week I have finished my front cover by applying the image in
my main headline. I have uploaded these final products in my
blogger and started to complete my checklist of what left I should
be doing to finish up my entire coursework.
I have started to create my evaluation draft using word
and do these during the half-term.
Mon W/B 21/04/14
I have finished my evaluation and is all marked by the teacher. I
just need to upload them in blog by using different types of
technologies that are available to present for my blog.
I have started to create my radio advert at home by
using Garage Band and iMovie then uploaded to
YouTube to my blog.
Mon W/B 28/04/14 I have started inserting them through Prezi, voice recorder, I have finished with m evaluations and managed to

(Detailed Weekly Summary) through Garage Band & iMovie. I had problems doing this as I
recording one of my evaluation through garage Band and tried to
upload them to Sound Cloud which didn’t work due to the size of
my audio file. As an alternative, I would have to find another way
to convert this to MP3 accessible to use for my blog.
upload all of them by using different software’s such as
Prezi, YouTube etc. I have managed to upload all of
them in time.
