(Detailed Weekly Summary)
Today we beginning planning what we were going to do for
our coursework, and we decided to create a short film.
Next week we will begin to plan our coursework
in more depth such as the genre of our short film
and what it will be about.

We have chosen to create a featurette about a movie
called ‘The Masterpiece’. It will be about a silent movie,
inspired by the movie ‘The Artist’.
Next week we will begin our product research for
our movie posters and also the movie review
from real life media products.

This week I began to plan my first ancillary task; I analysed
three film posters, such as the colour scheme, house style,
institutional credits and the images, for inspiration on my
own ancillary product.
Next week I will plan and create a draft for my
first ancillary task, the movie poster.

This week we began to plan the names of for characters,
the cast, crew and the job roles that will be mentioned
within the institutional credits on our first ancillary task.
Next week I will begin the first draft of my movie
poster
Mon W/B 07/10/13
This week I started to design my movie poster for ‘The
Masterpiece’ for my Ancillary 1 task. For this piece I chose
a colour scheme for the brand and also the title for The
Masterpiece. I also started creating the institutional credits
for the bottom of my movie poster.
Next week I will finalise my first ancillary draft and
begin the research for my second ancillary task.

Mon W/B 14/10/13
This weak I designed the logo for our production company
‘Winchester Bros’ and also finished the final touches for
my first ancillary draft. I will add the picture to my poster
after filming for the final product, because I will have
pictures then.
Next week I will begin to research movie reviews
for my second ancillary task so that I will be able
to begin the draft for it.

This week I gathered three movie reviews to analyse, such
as the review language, house style, images and layout so
that I will be able to begin drafting my second ancillary
product.
I will begin to create the draft of my second
ancillary task, which will be created after I’ve
made progress on the final product, when I’ll
have more information and images to use.

Mon W/B 04/11/13
This week I started to design the first draft for my Ancillary
2, including the layout. After this, I began to watch
examples of short films to get inspiration for our own
product. I also uploaded my research onto Slideshare to
put onto my blog.
Next week I will continue researching short films
and featurettes and begin planning our main
product.
Mon W/B 11/11/13
This week we carried on watching short films and also
featurettes on YouTube, taking into consideration features
and conventions that we can include into our own short
film to appeal to similar audiences.
Next week we will analysis in more depth the
conventions of featurettes.

This week we analysed the featurette for the movie The
Artist, taking into consideration Lacey’s repertoire of

This week we began constructing our idea generation mind
map for what to include in our featurette, including the plot,
genre, characters etc.
Next week we will hopefully have completed our
idea generation mind map and will also have

This week we finished our mind map and also began writing
our written report of our ideas generation.
Next week we will complete our ideas generation
report and begin planning/constructing the script for
the featurette.

This week we began planning the script for featurette ‘The
Making of The Masterpiece’, focusing on the interviews of the
cast and crew members and also the movie scenes.
Next we will be writing our script in detail, including
the interview scene and the movie shots.

This week we started writing the script for The Making of The
Masterpiece, and we had the director and the writer of The
Masterpiece introducing the movie and what it is about.
Next week we will write more of the script, including
more interviews and scenes.

This week we carried on writing the script and we also started
to consider places that we would film scenes of the movie,
such as art galleries.
Next week we intend to complete the script so that
we can start thinking about filming the featurette.

Mon W/B 20/01/14
This week we completed the first draft of the script and proof
read it for any errors or editions that could be made.
Next week we carry on proofreading and making
changes to the script. We will also time how long it
will take to read through to estimate the length of
the featurette, and also check for any grammar or
spelling errors.
Mon W/B 27/01/14
This week we finished proofreading the script for grammar
and spelling errors and we also added extra scenes. We then
read through the script to get an estimate time of how long
the featurette will be. After this we formatted the script to a
word document and uploaded it onto Slideshare so that it
could be included on our blogs.
Next week we are going to practice using the
cameras so that we will have experience on filming
with them for when it comes to filming our own
featurette.
Mon W/B 03/02/14
This week we took practice shots with the camera’s around
the college so that we’d get experience taking different shots
and also for practice for when it comes to filming for our
featurette. We then constructed a survey via Survey Monkey
so that we will be able to gather market research from target
audiences, which will be done by distributing the survey via
the internet.
Next week I will gather the responses from my
survey and create my market research analysis.

This week I began writing my market research analysis, using
the results that I gathered from my survey responses. I had

initially gathered over 200 responses to my survey, but the
restriction of only 100 people by Survey Monkey meant that I
only had a small portion of my results. However, I was still
able to analyse a wide variety of responses.
Mon W/B 17/02/14
This week I carried on with product research to upload onto
my blog, and we also considered locations that we could film
our featurette.
Next week we will decide on places to film the
product and begin asking people to be involved in
the production.
Mon W/B 24/02/14
We found locations for our shoots and asked people we
thought suited the roles to be in our short film.
We will make sure everyone knows what they are
doing and find a time when everyone is available to
film.
Mon W/B 03/03/14
This week we officially planned our first day of filming ‘The
Making of The Masterpiece’ at Salford Art Gallery. In that
time, we filmed many behind the scene shots of the main
characters to be included in our product.
Next week we will begin the construction of our
featurette using the shots we gathered from filming
at the art gallery.

This week we looked through the shots we had gathered and
selected the ones we would be including in our product, and
we began to construct them onto Premierre, where we will be
editing our main product. We also planned to do some more
filming for the featurette.
Next week we will continue editing the shots that
we have gathered and also film more scene for our

We were unable to film the interviews this week as the actors
and actresses were unable to attend, however we carried on
editing the featurette with the shots that we had at the time.
Next week we will begin filming the interviews for
our featurette and we will start importing them into
our featurette.

Our actors were also unavailable to film the interviews this
week and so we planned to film them another time. Instead,
we continued editing the featurette.
Next week I will begin planning my evaluation
answers to the four questions.

During the Easter holidays I began planning my answers for
the evaluation questions.
Next week I will construct the first draft of my
evaluation answers to have them marked in
preparation for formatting them in different media
forms.

This week I wrote out my evaluation answers using the notes
I had made over Easter. We also filmed the interview scenes
for our interview so that we could finish our featurette.
Next week I will continue writing my evaluations
and also complete our featurette ‘The Making of
The Masterpiece’.

This week we finalised the film and uploaded it onto
Facebook to gather a focus group for one of the evaluation

Mon W/B 05/05/14
This week I finished constructing my evaluations questions
via Prezi and PowerPoint and uploaded them onto my blog,
along with my final ancillary tasks. I also answered the
question on the focus group and included that on my black.
We that finalised our featurette, taking into consideration our
focus group responses, uploaded it onto YouTube and added
it to my blog along with all my other coursework.
