1. Researching Preferences of your Target Audience
In lesson today / and if needed in your own time you are going to begin to add to and
develop your research into audiences from primary sources that you began for the
ancillary blog.
Primary research
What you should have already done for the Ancillary BLOG
1. Find people within the potential target audience for the horror sub-
genre/music type you have identified – make sure they are valid fans of the
sub-genre you are working with;
2. Talk to them and record outcomes / take pictures/videos of them
3. Find out who they are/what they like (other media they consume)/what
music they like/what was the last music video they viewed/liked /what
makes a good video for them etc)
4. Talk to them about your idea/synopsis etc and gather feedback on
likes/dislikes/would they view it/what would they expect to see in a trailer/
video for this type of film/artist etc.
To do for the MAIN TASK BLOG
1. Find the same/further people within the potential target audience for the
horror sub-genre/music type you have identified – make sure they are valid
fans of the sub-genre you are working with;
2. Talk to them about your draft treatment/ideas for the look and style of the
work etc and gather feedback on
• what they would expect to see in the trailer/video with regard to conventions
e.g. scenes/settings/props/shots etc
• likes/dislikes/would they view the film/buy the music from seeing these products
• how do the ideas compare to actual products
• what improvements or changes can they suggest etc.
How you present this information in your Research and Planning blog is absolutely down
to you – remember you need to make it clear what you were doing and what things are
and make it as multi-media / creative as possible. Obviously the more people you talk
to – the more valid the feedback.
• Save all your pictures/videos to your folder in the user area/ write up any
notes needed to accompany this
• Review your findings and their preferences and outline key findings
• Amend/develop your TREATMENT/IDEA in line with the preferences of the
potential audience – you must make it clear what you have decided to do as
a result of the feedback and document any amendments to the paperwork.
IF YOU DO NOT COMPLETE THIS IN THE LESSON – THIS IS HOMEWORK.
