2. Our passion
Right now, do you think most of your peers
are capable of handling life after high school
and college?
“If you think adventure is
dangerous, try routine, it’s
deadly”
We share the same passion,
to improve education and we
want to see a better modern
educational system for all.
4. Why this topic?
As a group we came up with a list of our top concerns, we all came to
an agreement that students are not prepared with the skills needed to
succeed in life. It came to our attention that some teens grow up without
an adult to teach them everyday skills such as cooking, cleaning and
even financial management. So we developed plan to make a two year
elective that will teach you all the life skills you will need to thrive in the
real world.
5. Instagram Poll
Through Instagram we polled 100
people. The final results were that
70% of students felt unprepared
for life after high school.
6. Reddit poll #
We surveyed people around the world if
they think high school prepared them well
for life after high school. 29 different
individuals from the US, England, Italy,
France and Thailand responded to the
survey and the result was 93% no and 7%
yes.
7. “Adulting Classes”
December 14, 2018 CBS reported a significant amount of millennials taking
classes that taught them skills like laundry, cooking, sewing, and other
necessary life skills.
Rachel Flehinger co-founded the “Adulting School” in Portland, Maine as well
as establishing online classes for those who can’t be there in person.
8. Non profit organization
Kaizen Life Skills organisation is established to help young students with their
social development.
“The goal of Kaizen Life Skills it to help our area youth to become positive,
well rounded members of society.”
We both share the same goal, and by partnering with them we can work
together, support each other, and make change together
9. Raising money
By advertising on platforms such as television and radio we will be spreading
the word out. We can ask for people to call in and make donations for our
cause, and we can partner up with organizations such as Kaizen and other
nonprofit organizations.
10. Curriculum
â—Ź Our class will be for High School students
â—Ź Each semester consists of one class for a student to take
â—Ź A student can choose which class they wish to take at any given time as long as 4 out
of the 7 classes are taken
â—Ź The classes will be between 40 to 90 minutes depending on the given schools academic
timetable
There are seven classes:
1. Financial Classes
2. Emotional Support Classes
3. Home Skills Classes
4. Survival Skills Classes
5. Spiritual Support Classes
6. Entry Into Workforce
7. Sex Education
11. Purpose of Classes
The various classes will help with skills such as:
â—Ź Managing Money
â—Ź Learning to pay taxes
â—Ź Emotion management
â—Ź Cooking
â—Ź Cleaning
â—Ź Surviving in the wilderness
â—Ź Bible study/religious study group(optional)
â—Ź Work life experiences
12. Local partners
There are many different local relationships that we have to establish to
successfully yield changes in the educational curriculum.
- School boards, addressing our intentions and partnering up with local
school boards would allow us to make a change in their curriculum
- Federal departments, ministry of education and different governmental
departments would give us the power to nationally change the
educational curriculum
- Local groups and organizations, we have to pitch our idea to local groups
and organizations in order to gain local support for actions.
14. Issues we might face
There are several different types of issues that we could face with our new,
constant solution.
â—Ź The board of education/other school boards may not approve of our idea
â—Ź Costs (no money = no teacher(s) that can teach the life skill classes
â—Ź Schools decide to stick with their conventional, traditional standards
instead of making the big change for our futures
â—Ź Time it takes
