Universal education is an important thing. However the current education system is not equipped or utilizing resources to its full potential and is often failing students where the solution is easily implemented.
2. Why does it resonate with me?
Growing up my primary education experience was almost polarizing.
In some classes I could get really involved and excited and in other
it was hard to even feel like studying or working in the class.
Although this was the case, I always felt lucky and grateful that I
was even learning new things and expanding my knowledge despite
low motivation at times.
3. Local application
There are still a large proportion of students that don’t graduate
high school and drop out each year locally. It is important to
recognize that there are numerous factors contributing to this not
only outside the school system but in it as well. This needs change
and it can serve as an example on a larger scale on how to provide a
quality education for everyone.
4. My contribution
• For me, my biggest contribution is volunteering my time in
classrooms and talking with teachers about some of the things
they find successful in helping students learn. Using what I learned
from great educators when helping other students I know in
primary schools and around my community is where I think I can
make the greatest impact at this moment. In addition, helping
students find resources to assist them when facing difficulties is
also important.
5. Social media use
• The concept of being able to upload and share short-form content
as well as longer content caters extremely well to public school in
my opinion. Teachers, or other people passionate about what kids
learn in school all can upload educational content that can assist
students out of school when they are having trouble understanding
and provide a variety of perspectives into a topic. Comment
sections are also a great way to share ideas and learn from others
and enabling students to remove obstacles outside of school.
