unhatched eggs are
nutrients for sand dunes
4. 4
What’s happening to turtles?
Ocean pollution

ocean pollution at all stages
of life
● Chronic exposure to
pollutants makes sea turtles
susceptible to disease and
death.
Global Warming
● Effects of global warming are
having enormous impacts on
sea turtles and other wildlife

temperatures results in
decreased hatching rates or
complete nest failure

● Incidental capture in fishing
gear(bycatch) is likely the
greatest threat to sea turtles
● Trawls, longlines, and traps
are responsible for death of
most sea turtles

their eggs, meat, skin, and

How you can implement it in your
own town
● Get people involved
● Find a nonprofit organization in your town and help volunteer with
● Spread the word in our own community (social media, make signs,
talk about the situation at your school on the morning
announcements)
● Make our own group with your community to help at the beaches
● Make a fundraiser (car wash, lemonade booth, pizza sell) and
donate the money to the organizations
Some of the many ways we will help in our own community is…..

Obstacle 1: People will not feel the same about saving turtles.
Solution: Convince them by showing why we need to save turtles and the
impact that hurting them by littering, catching them in fishnets, and more
hurts the environment.
Obstacle 2: Natural disasters that take away their habitats.
Solution: Disasters are unavoidable, however, we can plan ahead in order to
have homes provided for turtles when they are washed up on beaches after
big storms.
