2. Our Program
Haven for humanity is a non-profit organization that
is based on helping children and veterans who are
struggling with homelessness. It mainly focuses on
countries such as the U.S., China and Bangladesh.
We strive to help the homeless gain a stable job and
get back on their feet.
4. Program Goals
Some of the goals Haven for Humanity wishes to
achieve include:
In year one, decrease the number of homeless
veterans and children by 3,000 people in the
United States
In the following years, our organization’s goal is to
increase this number by 2,000 and start reaching
out to other countries.
5. Causes and Effects
A leading cause of homelessness is the expensive
mortgages and rents. Due to the unaffordable
costs, thousands of men, women, and children
are left homeless.
Drugs and addiction becomes a major factor when
it comes to homelessness. Many veterans become
depressed or get other mental issues due to
social isolation, often resulting in drug or alcohol
abuse.
6. Teens, Children, and
Veterans
1 in 30 teens and children are
homeless in the US. This can be
translated into 1.3 million
overall.
Veterans also make up a large
majority of America’s homeless
population. 23% to be exact.
7. Research
In the month of May 2017 there were about 61,000 homeless
people.
3.5 million Americans are homeless each year, 1 million are
children.
Major cause of homelessness is due to expensive rent
New York City pays 40,000 dollars per year for every homeless
person through taxpayer dollars.

Common causes of homelessness are job loss, domestic
violence, divorce, family disputes, depression,
untreated mental illnesses, PTSD, and disabilities.
Many are living with mental illness and other severe
health issues.
111,000 LGBTQ youth in the U.S are homeless.
Natural disasters are major cause globally, along with
badly handled immigration.

literacy rates are quite low and many people are deprived
of education.
