It's extremely rare that an email stands alone and closes a topic, isue or story. In mos cases it's just the beggining of a long and sometimes heavy thread.
1. Surprise surprise, no it’s not. There’s a big chance that your
interlocutor will come back with additional arguments or challenging
your views.
And there you are, fed up because you’d taken it as topic closed.
How to avoid this? A few key points:
- Provide on your email all possible data, facts and your reasoning
- Take out all unnecessary parts or blabla text. Keep it concise
otherwise you’ll lose or exasperate your interlocutor.
- Clearly state your position and proposal, if deemed.
- Ask your counterpart if all is clear and to kindly confirm his position
within X days/date. This is to avoid that long after you considered
case closed, the ping-pong starts all over again.
But still….don’t expect the topic to be closed, until you have your
counterpart confirmation.
