We tend to overestimate the influence of the past and underestimate the present, telling ourselves that happiness is always in the future rather than recognizing that today is the only moment we can shape our future. By avoiding dealing with how we feel now and dwelling too much on yesterday, we run from finding peace and fulfillment in the present moment, which is the only time that truly exists.

1. Exaggerating yesterday, overestimating tomorrow

It's today that counts.
We tend to over exaggerate the weight the past has over us like we're
tied to it or conditioned, extrapolating it repeatedly.
And as a covering-up story, we tell ourselves tomorrow it will be better,
tomorrow we will make it, tomorrow everything will change.
We avoid at all costs looking at the most precious moment, today.
It's today that we shape the tomorrow, it's today that we can start the
change, it's today the only existence because every tomorrow will be
another today, another now.
We can't throw to tomorrow eternally our possibility to be at peace,
happy, and fulfilled, like we're running away from what we feel right now;
And we can’t live on the museum of yesterday.
