2. 7.1 SIMPLE AND COMPLEX SENTENCES
Simple sentence has one independent clause ( one meaningful sentence )
that can be used in isolation. For example :
- He loves Mary.
Complex sentence consists of two parts ( has two clauses ) : independent
clause + dependent clause . For example :
- He loves Mary because she is pretty.
Dependent clause is a structure that cannot be used in isolation as a
complete sentence as the above example . For example :
- Because she is pretty.
3. 7.2 CLAUSE TYPES
1- S + V ( intransitive + intensive ) + A ( place )
Ex: Mary is in the house .
2- S + V ( intransitive + intensive ) + Cs
Ex: Mary is kind . Or Mary is a doctor .
3- S + V ( monotransitive + extensive ) + Od
Ex: John bought a ball.
4- S + V ( ditransitive + extensive ) + Oi + Od
Ex: John gives her a flower .

Ex: John smiled.

5. Cs
is the subject complement.
It can be:
1- an adjective as ( kind ,
clever , wrong ).
2- a noun as ( nurse , doctor ,
teacher ) .

Co
Is the object complement . It
can be:
