Large seismic joints are necessary in today’s architecture and unfortunately,
they can destroy even the finest interior and exterior designs. Linear Systems

What is an Expansion Joint

 In building construction, an expansion joint is a mid-structure separation
designed to relieve stress on building materials caused by building movement
induced by:
– Thermal expansion and contraction caused by temperature changes
– Sway caused by wind
– Seismic events
 Because the joint separates the entire structure, it marks a gap through all
building assemblies such as walls, floors, roofs, decks, planters, etc. This gap
must be filled to restore the waterproofing, fire proofing, sound proofing, air
barrier, roof membrane, trafficable surface and other functions of the building
elements it bisects.
 Expansion joint systems are used to bridge the gap and restore building assembly
functions while accommodating expected movements.

– RiteSeal is a pre-formed, low-density, closed cell, cross-linked,
polyethylene material. RiteSeal is a flexible, watertight, airtight and

17. STONE AND TILE MOVEMENT JOINTS
 Movement joints must be installed in certain areas and positions to prevent
tiles or grout from cracking and in some cases prevent the tiles from tenting
and becoming de-bonded from the substrate.
 A movement joint is the interruption of the surface to allow for movement.
They are needed because all tiles expand and contract with temperature and
moisture changes. In almost every case the substrate will move differently to

RiteCrete is designed for durable, fast setting concrete repair applications. It is an

Zettex Europe BV was established in 1990 and was born of a German-English
business that specialized primarily in the automotive market. As a result of a
takeover in 2001, the company received a large product range of adhesives,

acrylic sealant for fire-resistant sealing.
Zettex FR 100 is fire-resistant for up to 4
hours. Zettex FR 100 is also
recommended for sealing slightly
expanding construction joints (max 12.5
%) and for sealing gaps in fire-resistant

 Zettex MS 70 Hightack is an universal adhesive
for adhering all kinds of materials with the
exception of PE and PP. Zettex MS 70 Hightack
has a very high initial tack and can be used on
the most common surfaces. Zettex MS 70
Hightack has been specially developed for the
adhesion of stone, concrete, mirrors, glass,
plaster, PU, PVC, hard synthetics, enamel,
ceramics, copper, lead, zinc, tin, aluminum,
metals, alloys and stainless steel.
Fields of Application
 Bonds all metals and timbers, EDPM, lead, zinc,
copper, mirrors, stone, polystyrene, plastics,
concrete and natural stone. Due to its versatility
it can replace all types of specialist adhesives.
 Zettex MS 72 Polymer is a permanent, flexible,
moisture cured and 1-component sealant &
adhesive for constructive bonding with a high
degree of strength. This new MS Polymer
technology combines the properties of
conventional products such as polyurethanes,
silicones, and acrylates, but without the poor
properties that these products show long term,
like aging. The MS72 Polymer-Windscreen does
not need hazchem marking and qualifies for
even the strictest Health & Safety rules as well
as laws and EU-guidelines for the environment.

substrate. Zettex MS Polymer 80 is
extremely strong and flexible,
rendering it suitable for bonding
components in the aerospace,
automotive and offshore industries.
