What are the ways to minimize human impact on the
environment?

Essential Questions:
23. NEVER
HAVE I EVER...
Have you sniffed any human activities that
contribute to the destruction of the
ecosystem? Can you name them?
ANSWER
24. YES or YES
Does the picture depict an activity causing negative impact on the environment?
26. Divide yourselves into 4
groups.
01.
List down human activities in your
community that you think cause
negative impacts in the environment.
02.
Brainstorm your ideas

28. HUMAN
IMPACT ON THE
ENVIRONMENT
Due to the intricacy and interconnectedness, of the ecosystem any
activity that disturbs the natural balance of these components affects
the ecosystem. Anthropogenic activities top the list as there are
numerous human actions affecting this balance.

amounts of phosphorous
and nitrogen nutrients
into natural soils, lands
and water systems due to
fertilizer use = aquatic

01
Forests are critical natural
habitats of wildlife.
bigger population = higher demand for food = clearing forests
to create more room for agriculture
02
Population growth-
influenced deforestation
is to blame for three
billion tons of CO2
released into the
atmosphere each year
(raised temepratures)

GLOBAL WARMING
& CLIMATE CHANGE
AQUATIC RESOURCE
DEGRADATION
30. bigger population = more food, materials, and shelter are
being manufactured at stupendous rates
DEFORESTATION

Human Activities Affecting the Environment

GLOBAL WARMING
ECOSYSTEM ALTERATION
EXTINCTION
DISPLACEMENT OF BOTH
ANIMALS AND INDIGENOUS
PEOPLE
31. BIGGER population = BIGGER consumption
An increased population results in more clear-cutting,
resulting in severely damaged ecosystems.
Humans consume large amounts of resources for their own
needs
OVERPOPULATION
3.
Human Activities Affecting the Environment
MINING OF NATURAL RESOURCES
HUNTING AND FISHING ANIMALS FOR FOOD
CLEARING FORESTS FOR URBANIZATION AND WOOD USE
32. Plastics remain in the environment for thousands of years and
have long-lasting consequences on the fragile ecosystems and
regulatory cycles.
The chemicals present in the plastics are released in the waters, interfering
with animal’s endocrine systems and changing their reproduction patterns.
They can also cause rapid cell division, which may result in cancers.
Above all, since the plastics remain in the oceans for years and years, they
can ultimately reverse ecosystems with massive damage costs.
PLASTIC PRODUCTION
4.
Human Activities Affecting the Environment
33. the world has continued to depend on carbon-rich
fossil fuels, namely gas, oil and coal.
The emission of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases, namely methane
and hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs), are human-induced through the combustion
of fossil fuels and the use of man-made products.
Today, carbon dioxide levels are said to be surprisingly higher than ever in
history. As a result, global temperatures are on the rise contributing to sea-
level rise and extreme weather events like heatwaves, flooding, tsunamis,
and droughts.
TOXIC GAS EMISSIONS
5.
Human Activities Affecting the Environment
34. Various anthropogenic activities have heavily destroyed
freshwater supplies such as rivers, streams, and aquifers.

The fumes coming from burnt gasoline while driving cars are safe for humans and the
environment.
Toxic chemicals leaking into the ocean is one of the causes for the destruction of marine life.
Proper garbage disposal will not help us minimize the negative human impact to the
environment.
Plastics are a major pollutant in the environment due to its inability to degrade naturally.
Buying a lot of goods can be bad for the environment since it increases the demand-supply in
the economy.
