2. Acknowledgement
I would like to express my profound gratitude to my
sociology teachers for their contributions to the completion
of my project titled _ISSUES AND CONCERN OF
ECOLOGICAL DEGRADATION IN DEVELOPING
NATIONS.
Your useful advice and suggestions were really helpful to
me during the assignment completion. In this aspect, I am
eternally grateful to you.

4. ECOLOGY
Ecology is the study of the
relationships between living
organisms and their environment. It
encompasses the interactions
between living organisms, such as
plants, animals, and microorganisms,
and their physical surroundings,
including water, air, soil, and climate.
Ecology also involves the study of
how these relationships and
interactions affect the overall health
and functioning of ecosystems, which
are complex systems of living
organisms and their environment.
7. Ecological degradation is the
deterioration of the environment
through depletion of resources
such as air, water and soil; the
destruction of ecosystems and the
extinction of wildlife. It is defined
as any change or disturbance to
the environment perceived to be
deleterious or undesirable.
8. Unfortunately, human activities such as deforestation, pollution, and climate
change have led to ecological degradation, which is the deterioration of the
natural environment and the loss of biodiversity. Ecological degradation can
have serious consequences for both humans and other living organisms,
including reduced access to clean water and food, increased risk of
disease, and loss of ecosystem services such as pollination and water
9. ISSUES AND CONCERN OF
ECOLOGICAL DEGRADATION
IN DEVELOPING NATIONS
Ecological degradation is
a major concern in
developing nations, where
rapid economic growth
and industrialization often
come at the cost of
environmental
sustainability.
10. Our environment faces several problems, and many of these seem to be worsening with
time, bringing us into a time of a true environmental crisis. It is therefore becoming
increasingly important to raise awareness of the existence of these issues, as well as
what can be done to reduce their negative impact
ISSUES AND CONCERN OF ECOLOGICAL DEGRADATION
11. DEFORESTATION
Developing nations
often rely on natural
resources for
economic growth,
leading to
deforestation and
habitat destruction.
This has a significant
impact on biodiversity
and can lead to soil
erosion, flooding, and
other environmental
12. Pollution
Pollution of the land, water and
air caused by toxins such as
plastics, heavy metals and
nitrates, caused by factors such
as toxins and gases released by
factories, combustion of fossil
fuels, acid rain, oil spill and
industrial waste.
13. The emission of greenhouse gases due to human activity causes global
warming, which in turn causes an increase in temperature that then leads
to rising sea levels, melting of polar ice caps, flash floods and
Global Warming
14. We are facing a shortage of resources such as food, water and fuel to
sustain the rising global population, particularly in developing countries.
Intensive agriculture attempting to lessen the problem actually leads to
more damage through the use of chemical fertilizers, pesticides and
15. WASTE DISPOSAL
An excessive amount of
waste is produced and
dumped in the oceans.
Nuclear waste is
particularly dangerous, as
well as plastics and
16. The increase in the production of carbon dioxide by humans
causes the oceans’ acidity to rise, which has a negative
impact on marine life.
17. LOSS OF BIODIVERSITY
Species and habitats are becoming extinct due to human activity. This
causes an imbalance in natural processes like pollination and poses a
threat to ecosystems – coral reef destruction is particularly affected.
19. Pollutants in the atmosphere such as sulfur dioxide and
nitrogen oxides cause acid rain, which has negative
consequences for humans, wildlife and aquatic species.
20. Lack of clean water is
one of the leading
environmental
problems currently.
Pollutants in the air
also cause issues such
as respiratory disease
and cardiovascular
disease.

21. Stopping Deforestation
Is crucial for our environmental system. We
cannot afford to cut or burn trees down as
trees store greenhouse gases, produce
oxygen and are the natural habitat for many
animals and plants, which may become
endangered if these forests are destroyed.

22. Education
It is highly essential that children should know
about the adverse environmental
consequences of our daily life behavior and the
ways we can improve our ecological footprint.
These children are more likely to act in an
environmentally-friendly manner when they
grow up, and they might also convince their
parents to behave in a more ecologically
friendly way.

that leads to significant
