FUNDAMENTALS OF GUIDANCE AND COUNSELING
Who are the persons that need to be guided? Do we only guide those persons
who have problems? And what kind of problems do individuals have for us to know they
need our guidance? I was able to reflect about these questions after our classmates
discuss about the fundamentals of guidance and counseling.
Each of us have different journey in life. Along with this journey came our happy
times as well as our struggles in life. That is why in our journey we need someone to be
with us no matter where our destiny leads us. Someone who will guide us if ever we
come up to a decision that we think it’s a right decision but actually, it’s not. Let me tell
you about my story in life. When I was 9 years old, my parents decided to break up.
Unconscious of what had happened about the situation of my parents, I wondered why
my father brought us to my grandmother’s house and he let us stay there for a year.
Things started to change when my siblings and I was in the privilege of my
grandmother, maybe because I was not use to live without my parents beside me every
day. I was not used to sleep without them in my side. I was not used to go to school
without my mother checking my assignments if I answered it correctly, then returning
home with my perfect test papers and excited to show it to my father because he will
buy my test papers that has a perfect score in a worth of 5 pesos. I was really got
emotionally stressed that time when I started to be conscious about the changes. I even
got sick for almost a month and I think that sickness was because I undergo on an
emotional stress. Luckily, with the help of my grandmother I survived with that situation.
She takes place the role of my parents. In fact, she shows her whole support on my
studies and with her I learn to build my self-confidence. So, when I was 10 years old I
started to expose myself on public where I joined extracurricular activities in school. I
joined declamation contest, singing contest and so I was able to play volleyball when I
2. was in elementary. That is why even if I encountered that kind of situation, I still
managed to do well, that’s because there is someone guides me and with that I was
forever grateful.
That was just a part of my story in life. Now I am still happy since I am in the care
of my mother and my father still supports me. Even if my mother and father are not
together anymore yet I still feel complete because they still guide us and give us
everything we need in the best that they could. They may not rich and not together but
still they give us everything we need and even what we want. For that I am forever
grateful.
So, in life we really need someone to guide us and there are also persons who
really need to be guided. So, whoever needs our guidance we should rendered our
open arms to them. Life is just a matter of give and take. All of us need guidance.
