3. GENERAL INTRODUCTION
03
• India has been experiencing rapid economic growth, averaging at 7.9% for
the last six years, making it the world's fastest-developing country.
• With the imminent rise of urbanization, there is a significant demand for
building houses, and the construction industry, which contributes to 12% of
the country's GDP, is growing at a rate of 9% annually.
• To meet the need for housing, at least 30 to 36 thousand units need to be
built per day for the next seven years.
• Housing is a fundamental human need, and as the population continues to
grow, there is a pressing need for a more reliable, faster, and sustainable
method of construction.
• While the aim of constructing buildings in the most economical way
remains the same, the construction industry has developed new
technologies to meet the demands of modern construction.
4. BACKGROUND
• Constructing a building from start to finish can be a challenging and time-consuming
task that requires significant effort and investment.
• However, it ultimately results in a permanent asset.
• Skilled individuals must undertake the systematic process of constructing a residential
building. Therefore, it is crucial to take caution during the construction process.
• Critical factors, such as the purpose of construction, financial proficiency, and demand
for work, should be considered before initiating any building project.
• Once the decision to construct a building is made, the planning phase begins.
• This presentation will discuss the step-by-step process of building construction from
start to finish.

10. PROJECT DESCRIPTION
10
• The Total cost of the project is 23,08,337/-
• The duration of Project is 141 days.
• The Total Built-Up Area for each floor is =167 sqm
• The Total Carpet Area for each floor is = 141 sqm
• Footing, column, beam, slab, lintel, staircase, chajja, and
landing are constructed using M25 grade concrete.
• PCC (Plain Cement Concrete) is done using concrete mixed
in the proportion of 1:2:4.
• RCC (Reinforced Cement Concrete) work for lintel, staircase,
chajja, and landing is done using M25 grade concrete.
11. PROJECT DESCRIPTION
11
• Walls are built using 1st class brick with cement mortar
mixed in the proportion of 1:5.
• Backfilling is done using moorum.
• A damp proof course of 25mm thickness is provided and laid
using M25 grade cement concrete and bitumen or cement
mixed with a waterproofing compound, and the formwork is
used for the same.
• RMC (Ready-Mix Concrete) is used for huge concreting
works if required.
• On-site arrangements are made for material storage.
13. INTRODUCTION
13
• Microsoft Project is project management software developed by
Microsoft
• It helps project managers with planning, resource allocation, progress
tracking, budget management, and workload analysis
• The software creates critical path schedules and allows for resource
leveling
• Resource definitions can be shared across multiple projects using a
shared resource pool. Each resource can have a personalized calendar to
define availability
• Assignment costs are calculated using resource rates
• Project data can be centralized and stored in a database using Microsoft
Office Project Server
• Microsoft Project Web Access enables authorized users to access and
update data remotely
14. 14
WBS OF PROJECT
• A work breakdown structure
(WBS) is a visual tool used to break
down a complex project or task into
smaller, more manageable
components. The WBS helps to
organize the work, assign
responsibilities, and track progress.
16. 16
PROJECT WORK
CALENDARS
• Calendars in Microsoft
Project define the
working and non-
working days of a
project, and are used to
calculate project
schedules.
17. 17
ACTIVITY, DURATION & PREDECESSOR
• In Microsoft Project, an
activity refers to a specific task
or work item that needs to be
completed as part of a project.
Duration refers to the amount
of time it will take to complete
the activity, while predecessor
refers to any activities that
must be completed before the
current activity can begin.
18. 18
NETWORK DIAGRAM
• A network diagram is a visual
representation of a network's
components and their
relationships. It is a graphical
representation of a network's
topology, which shows how
the different components of the
network are connected to each
other
19. 19
RESOURCE SHEET
• Resources refer to anything
that can be used to accomplish
a task or goal, such as people,
equipment, time, money, or
materials. In order to complete
a project or achieve a goal, it is
important to effectively assign
resources and manage them
throughout the process.
20. 20
GANTT CHART
• A Gantt chart is a visual tool used
in project management to display
a schedule of project tasks and
their durations. The chart is
composed of horizontal bars
representing the tasks, with the
length of each bar indicating the
duration of the task. The bars are
arranged along a timeline, which
is typically represented on the
chart as a horizontal axis.
21. 21
PROJECT TRACKING & UPDATING
• To track your project in Microsoft
Project, you need to first set up
your project schedule, define a
baseline, enter actual progress,
compare it to the baseline, and
update the project plan
accordingly.
22. PROJECT REPORTS
22
• Microsoft Project provides various reports that you can
generate to communicate project status to stakeholders.
These reports can be customized to display the information
that is relevant to your project.
• In further slides we will see different types of reports.
23. 23
CASH-FLOW REPORT
• A cash flow report is a financial
statement that shows the inflows
and outflows of cash for a
business over a specific period of
time. It provides an overview of
the cash position of a business,
including its ability to generate
cash from operations, investing
activities, and financing activities.
24. 24
RESOURCE OVERVIEW REPORT
• A resource overview report is a
document that provides
information about the resources
that are available or required for a
particular project, activity, or task.
• The purpose of this report is to
give stakeholders an
understanding of the resources
needed to achieve project goals,
including the costs and timeframes
associated with acquiring or
utilizing those resources.
25. 25
CRITICAL TASK REPORT
• The critical task report will
display all tasks that are critical to
the project's completion within the
specified timescale. The report
will show the task name, duration,
start date, finish date, and percent
complete for each critical task.
26. 26
WORK OVERVIEW REPORT
• The work overview report
provides an overview of the work
done in your project, including the
amount of work completed, the
remaining work, and the work yet
to be completed. It also includes a
summary of the total work hours
and the number of tasks completed
within a specific timeframe.
27. 27
CONCLUSION
• Effective planning and scheduling are crucial for the success of any
project.
• They provide valuable insights into various aspects such as schedule,
resources, workforce, Gantt chart, network diagram, team planner,
tracking Gantt, timeline, and task sheet.
• These insights facilitate efficient management of the project by
enabling risk management, time management, and resource
management.
• Relying solely on personal experience for planning and calculation
can be time-consuming and challenging to achieve objectives.
• Project management technology provides comprehensive
management of projects and offers features such as timely, accurate,
rapid, and convenient management.
