Description:
There are plenty of news content aggregator available on the App Store and the Google Play Store. However, the market leaders are Flipboard, SmartNews, and Buzzfeed. Even though these competitors have been on market for a long time, there is still room for Newsense to grow. The current market leaders have good features in their app, but none of them are attacking the rise of the unreliable news. With fake news on rise, news readers are more concerned about the credibility of the news they receive through content aggregators. Our application will be a sustaining innovation in the news aggregators industry. Newsence, in addition to aggregating content for the readers, will eventually use an algorithm with artificial intelligence to protect and alert users in presence of fake news. Newsence is a low end sustaining innovation, its new capabilities will mainly attract undershot customers.
Our target customers are the millennial who constantly rely on their phone to get a summary of the daily news. Also, people with a busy schedule can customize their news preference in order to spend less time going through each news outlets websites.
Flipboard: According to PCmag review, Flipboard is doing a good job in aggregating news article and social networking updates. However, some of their articles require you to login or click through to the parent website. For instance (The Washington Post and a small number of other publishers require you to log in or click through to their sites to read the full articles after you read a certain number of their articles, which is a bit annoying). Also, their trending stories are repetitive.
SmartNews: The great innovation of SmartNews is its content design and the push notification features. Readers are able to set up a time when they would like to receive news notification. The downfall for this news aggregator is the limited sources available.
SmartNews: Do not have many content creators partners, which limited the numbers of their sources.
Buzzfeed: Buzzfeed is well known for being a leader in content curation. In addition to aggregating the news, they have an army of reporters and editors that curate the contents of the news they publish for a better customer satisfaction. That can also be a problem due to their political biases.
