2. Description:
We hear so much about healthy words and concepts but what do
these words really mean and how do we obtain them?
This project will help us learn and discover the mysteries
behind Heart Rate. We will explore what Heart Rate is why it
is important and how we can make sure we are doing the right
things to use our Heart Rate to make our lives healthier.
3. Objectives:
Students will be able to:
Research and understand what Heart Rate is and why is is
relevant in their lives.
Students will learn how to count and track their Heart
Rate.
Student will be able to name at least two exercises that
raise their Heart Rate.
4. Project1.1:
The first class period the students will be taken to the
computer lab to research about Heart rate.
Students will answer the following questions:
1.What is Heart Rate?
2.Why is it important?
3.How do we count our Heart Rate?
5. Project1.2:
The second class period class will be split into teams and
rotate through four stations of exercise activities. Prior to
the beginning of the rotations students will learn how to
count and monitor their heart rate as well as record their
resting Heart Rate before they begin any physical activity.
The goal is to have each student learn what exercises raise
their Heart Rate the most and how they can incorporate it
into their daily lives.
7. Instructions:
Each team will record their resting Heart Rate prior to
beginning the exercise. Students will perform the exercise
for two minutes straight and record their Heart Rate
immediately after the two minutes.
Students will receive 5 minutes of rest between each station
to give them new resting Heart Rates and begin new exercise
for two minutes until all four rotations are complete.
8. OverallGoal:
Students will learn the importance of Heart Rate and be able
to take ownership over their health and participation in
Health and Physical Education. With this new knowledge it is
expected that students will participate fully because of a
deeper interest in their physical well being and raising
their heart rate is one of the many things that will assist
them in their physical wellness for the rest of their lives.
