3. Research• Strengths
I had a clear view on what I wanted to do, along with what my audience wanted from me so I
could take their expectations on board with me to make sure I didn't disappoint them.
In my survey I got a lot of helpful responses that helped me narrow down my ideas.
The people who did the interview gave me good feedback to help me improve my work and to
think about in the future.
Looking at existing products gave me a lot of ideas for my own project.
Weaknesses
I feel like I could've spent a little more time researching images and character designs to come up
with a different approach and I wanted to gather more data about my audience as I was hoping
they would be mostly female and I didn’t want to sacrifice my idea.
I couldn’t get many people who completed the survey to also complete the interview so I had to
use people who didn’t know what my product was about.
When I completed my survey, I realised that a lot of the opinions were varied and occasionally I
didn’t get the responses I was looking for.
Looking at existing products gave me a lot of ideas, but I had to tread lightly since I didn't want to
copy others too much but I also wanted to include some of the themes I saw.
• Improvements
I would’ve made my product a little more neutral as I feel that it ended up being targeted more
towards girls, and I would’ve spent more time with the character designs and the trailer to
animate it better, I would’ve also added more pages to my magazine as I feel like all of these
things could’ve done with some more detail to help improve the quality.
I would have added more specific questions to my survey to elicit better responses.
I would have gotten people that had responded well to my survey and were in my target audience
to complete my interview.
I would have spent more time searching for existing products more similar to mine so that I could
contrast them better.
4. Planning
• Strengths
I had a clear schedule of when I needed to get everything done, I had an outline of what
I needed to do and a clear vision on how to go forward. I made sure that it was directed
towards my targeted audience by looking back at the research PowerPoint often and
seeing what people wanted, and what I said I would add, and making sure that I had
those things included or adding them when I didn’t.
• Weaknesses
I didn’t make my plan clear enough and I didn’t reflect back to it when I needed it, I
often deviated from the goals I had set and procrastinated doing certain things until the
last minute.
• Improvements
I would have made a more detailed plan, perhaps writing any ideas down on a word
document, and I would have written a note to save any links I had used for images to
easily use. I think that having a word document open would have helped a lot as I
could’ve wrote down any notes that I wanted to, or any thoughts that I could’ve added
later- whether it be ideas or things that I were thinking as I made it. Then I could’ve
added the notes to previous PowerPoints and give detailed descriptions on what I was
thinking.
5. Time Management
• I didn’t manage my time as I best as I could have,
since I am used to waiting until the last minute to
do things I found myself falling behind, or
sometimes I would work too fast and rush things
only to find myself with nothing to do. I think that
my work could always use improvement, even if
it’s something small. There are tiny mistakes I
would go back and fix along with some bigger
and more noticeable ones. If I had more time
with my project I would have improved the
quality of the trailer and added more pages to my
magazine.
6. Technical Qualities posterSimilarities:
Similar aesthetic style, A catchy text
phrase, similar colors
Differences:
Silhouettes on the left and actual characters on the
right, left is for a video game right is a TV show, more
things in the background on the right.
Conventions: The text is centred, with people at the left and right to fill up space. There is a
catchy slogan to draw attention to the game and make it seem more interesting. The colours are
similar to show a certain style and it only sticks to four or five colours to not overwhelm people.
Audience: The poster on
the left is for a simplistic
video game that is widely
popular in media. The
reason the poster doesn’t
show much is because the
company are banking on
people knowing what their
game is about. Mine has
more detail (character
designs, text) since my
show would be new and
people wouldn’t know
what it was about.
7. Technical Qualities Magazine (front cover)
Similarities: Simple
design, both have
soft colors,
features at least 1
girl
Differences: The title is in
the middle on the left
and at the top on the
right, there is more text
on the right hand, there
are more colors on the
left, the left is colored
mostly purple and the
right is mostly pink.
8. Technical Qualities trailer
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aec_tDXsywU
The glitch effects in my trailer are similar to the ones in the other. There are two
female characters featuring in both, and in one case the characters are shown by
one particular colour(mine in purple, theirs in white and red) The transitions are
similar, there are times when things fade out and come back in.
I couldn’t add the trailer due to space,
please consult separate mp4.
9. Aesthetic QualitiesStrengths:
The Netflix title looks
genuine. The color
scheme is in synergy
with the other products.
The characters look
clear and pop out of the
page.
Weaknesses:
The lettering isn’t as
readable. Some
people may think
that there is too
much going on in the
poster.
I think that my work
looks pretty good
and I thing it was
creative, especially
the background. I
like the text at the
bottom as it looks
very genuine.
I would improve the
background by
removing some of the
dots and making the
bottom right less
colorful, but only
slightly.
Not a big fan of the
wavy dots in
hindsight or the
background, I would
change those to
something less
bright.
10. Aesthetic QualitiesStrengths:
I like the size of the dots
and the contrast of
colours from the left to
right, I also like the text
for “The truth”
Weaknesses:
I don’t like the text for
“behind the show” or
the placement of the
title of the show.
I think my work looks
good, and despite being
similar to my other work
I think it’s creative. I like
the coloured spots at the
right hand side.
I would improve the text
at the bottom and the
text at the top by
choosing another font
for “behind the show”
and making the purple
block of colour smaller.
The placement of the
title hides the S behind
character B,
obstructing people
from seeing it and may
cause confusion.
I would have moved
my characters and
title a little farther
down since they’re
not directly centred.
11. Aesthetic QualitiesI think my trailer looks
good and transitions
smoothly, and despite
the aesthetics being
similar to my other
pieces of work I think
it’s a unique and
creative approach to a
trailer.
I like the effects I put
on the transitions
and the music in the
background, If I could
I would add
movement to the
characters to make
the trailer more
interesting, I would
also consider adding
dialogue, but I’m not
sure if that would
work well with how
short the trailer is.
Strengths:
Slide transitions, aesthetics, music, character
design
Weaknesses:
Timing, sound effects, action, plot.
I wanted one of my
characters to be
strange and glitchy,
so I did that with
the second girl.
I wanted the two
main characters to
look similar so I
have them both a
similar body size
and the same hair
style.
I came up with
the idea to make
one character a
particular colour
from my earlier
character
experiments and
I carried that
across to the final
design which I
really enjoy.
12. Audience Appeal
I have appealed to my target audience (teenagers) by having loud colours,
flashing images, interesting character design, a short trailer and simple
language and images.
I tried to target all genders, which I think came across well, and I tried to add
more masculinity with bold text and loud colours. I also tried to make sure it
wasn’t too unsettling, having most of the disturbing commentary being written
and hardly being shown which I think went well. I kept the trailer short to keep
peoples attention especially in the needs driven physchographic. I kept the pastel
theme throughout all of my product. The product doesn’t necessary appeal to
any social statues.
It wouldn’t appeal to adults- mainly working class adult males, as it isn’t directed
to them so they wouldn’t like the kind of things that dominate my project. Loud
sounds, bright colours and short videos are all examples of things older people
may not enjoy as much as younger people, and all of these things are featured in
my project.
14. Feedback 1
• What did you like about the product?
– I like the chirpy upbeat tone mixed with the audio static in the trailer. It really
works along with the visuals.
– I also really like the designs for your characters. I just find them aesthetically
pleasing.
• What improvements could have been made to the product?
– I would improve the trailer by possibly lowering the volume of the static in the
video as I found it quite overwhelming compared to the music.
– I would also probably change the colour or font of “The Truth” on the
magazine front cover as it is kind of difficult to read, even though I understand
why it’s like that.
– Also, I’m pretty sure I requested bugs in the questionnaire and there is a
distinct lack of them. I want my many legged friends to have the recognition
they deserve.
15. Feedback 2
• What did you like about the product?
• The funky style and the way it come across to a teen market
• It was stylised so that it could be for all genders
• What improvements could have been made to the product?
• The background noise was not good and the flickering
between made me a little dizzy
• The red text on the pink page is hard to read
• Might want to change the background colour of the pink
page
Make some of the text bolder
Do not like the blue page
16. Feedback 3
• What did you like about the product?
– I didn’t get it
• What improvements could have been made to
the product?
– Made clearer
– It was more girly
– If I had known the plot behind it I would have been
able to give clearer feedback
– The blue page was awful
17. Feedback 4
• What did you like about the product?
• It had clear differences between different
types of people
• One was dark and one was bright
• What improvements could have been made to
the product?
• To make it less glitchy
18. Peer Feedback Summary
• What do you agree with from your peer
feedback?
– I agree that the blue page is overwhelming and
some of the text could be bolder and different
colours
• What do you disagree with from your peer
feedback?
– I don’t think it’s confusing, since I was aiming for it
to be mysterious by not giving out much info
although I can see why people would mistake it.
19. Peer Feedback Summary
I would come up with some lighter ideas for the blue
page so that it was easier to read, make the fonts
bolder and darker and different colours so that you
could see them better and I would give a little more
plot so that it was easier to understand and better to
interest the reader. I would also make the noises in the
trailer less loud as they can be overwhelming and the
poster look different from my magazine cover since my
audience said that the two look too similar.
