Complete analysis of q music magazine
1. Complete Analysis of Q music magazine
Q magazine is a monthly magazine which is centred on rock and roll. It was first published
by the EMAP (East Midlands Allied Press) in October 1986. It was originally to be called cue
(as in a sense of cueing a record, ready to play) yet changed to avoid being mistaken with the
snooker magazine. Another reason is that a single lettered title is more prominent on
newsstands. In 2008 EMAP sold Q to the Bauer Media Group, and has been with them to
this day.
The genre of the music in the magaizne is rock and roll, the style of the top music artists
It is the UK’s number one actively purchased music magazine.
Target audience
Q’s audience is younger and more
affluent than any other music
monthly. This is due to the founders
of Q Mark Ellen and David Hepworth
felt that the older generation of music
buyers were being ignored, so instead
they aimed at teenage and young
people and they aimed it at buyers of over 25 years old of both genders. The fact the
magazine is aimed at slightly older means that the magazine can charge slightly more. With
an older audience this meant that they could include articles on old ‘classic’ albums and
music from the past decades as it would more suit the audience. The magazine has a mass
audience as it is so popular, but can also be seen as having one main audience as it is only
aimed at music fans.
