1. System Programs
These programs are not usually part of the OS kernel, but are part of the overall operating system.
1.13.1. File management
These programs create, delete, copy, rename, print, dump, list, and generally manipulate files and
directories.
1.13.2. Status information
Some programs simply request the date and time, and other simple requests. Others provide detailed
performance, logging, and debugging information. The output of these files is often sent to a terminal
window or GUI window
1.13.3. File modification
Programs such as text editors are used to create, and modify files.
1.13.4. Communications
These programs provide the mechanism for creating a virtual connect among processes, users, and other
computers. Email and web browsers are a couple examples.
System Call Vs System Program
System program: These are the programs that are used and required to run the system - machine, input
output devices and other connected peripherals. They are also known as System softwares.
Systemcalls: System calls, are the calls made by the applications or the processors for a particular execution
of a code block; also known as interrupts in computer. System Program is the program that is run in the
kernel space.
System call is the API exposed from kernel space to user space. System Program are the bundles of useful
system calls.
