Research is the systematic process of investigating questions to discover or verify facts and find answers. It involves examining topics thoroughly through logical and structured techniques such as collecting and analyzing data or testing hypotheses. The goal of research is to increase knowledge and understanding by filling gaps, solving problems, and answering previously unexplained questions. It is an organized, methodical, and objective process aimed at generating new ideas and insights.
3. Just close your eyes for a minute and utter
the word research to yourself.
What kinds of images does this word
conjure up for you?
4. Do you visualize a lab with scientists at
work Bunsen burners and test tubes, or an
Einstein-like character writing dissertations
on some complex subject, or someone
collecting data to study the impact of a
newly introduced day-care system on the
morale of employees? Most certainly, all
these image do represent different aspects
of research…
5.
6. Twinkle Twinkle Little Star
How I Wonder What You Are..
The use of the words HOW and WHAT
essentially summarizes what research is… From
very young age it self we are in search or research of
each and every thing around us..
7. Re - Search
Re means
(once more, afresh, anew)
OR
(back; with return to a previous state) .
Search means
(look thorough or go over thoroughly to
look something)
OR
(examine to find anything concealed)
8. Research is a scientific undertaking which, by means of logical
and systematized techniques aims to:
• Discover new facts or verify and test old facts,
• Analyze their sequence, interrelationships and causal
explanations
The ultimate purpose of research is to:
• Fill in gaps in information
• Find answers to questions so far unexplained.
Research is the systematic collection, analysis &
interpretation of data to answer a certain question or solve
a problem.
9. Research is defined as the creation of new knowledge and/or the
use of existing knowledge in a new and creative way so as to
generate new concepts, methodologies and understandings.
This could include synthesis and analysis of previous research
to the extent that it leads to new and creative outcomes.
This definition of research is consistent with a broad notion of research
and experimental development (R&D) as comprising of creative work
undertaken on a systematic basis in order to increase the stock of
knowledge, including knowledge of humanity, culture and society, and
the use of this stock of knowledge to devise new applications.
This definition of research encompasses pure and strategic basic
research, applied research and experimental development. Applied
research is original investigation undertaken to acquire new
knowledge but directed towards a specific, practical aim or objective
10. ORGANIZED
in that there is a structure or
method in going about doing
research. It is a planned procedure,
not a spontaneous one. It is focused
and limited to a specific scope.
SYSTEMATIC
because there is a definite set of
procedures and steps which you
will follow. There are certain things
in the research process which are
always done in order to get the
most accurate results.
FINDING ANSWERS
is the end of all research. Whether
it is the answer to a hypothesis or
even a simple question, research is
successful when we find answers.
Sometimes the answer is no, but it
is still an answer.
QUESTIONS
are central to research. If there is
no question, then the answer is of
no use. Research is focused on
relevant, useful, and important
questions. Without a question,
research has no focus, drive, or
purpose.
11. DEFINITION OF RESEARCH
When you say that you are undertaking a research study to find answers to a
question,
you are implying that the process;
1. is being undertaken within a framework of a set of philosophies
( approaches);
2. uses procedures, methods and techniques that have been tested for their
validity and reliability;
3. is designed to be unbiased and objective .
Philosophies means approaches e.g. qualitative, quantitative and the academic
discipline in which you have been trained.
Validity means that correct procedures have been applied to find answers to a
question.
Reliability refers to the quality of a measurement procedure that provides
repeatability and accuracy.
Unbiased and objective means that you have taken each step in an unbiased
manner and drawn each conclusion to the best of your ability and without
introducing your own vested interest.
(Bias is a deliberate attempt to either conceal or highlight
something).
12. Research is an investigation of finding solutions to
scientific and social problems through objective and
systematic analysis. It is a search for knowledge, that is, a
discovery of hidden truths. Here knowledge means
information about matters. The information might be
collected from different sources like experience, human
beings, books, journals, nature, etc. A research can lead to
new contributions to the existing knowledge. Only through
research is it possible to make progress in a field. Research
is indeed civilization and determines the economic, social
and political development of a nation.
Good bye till we meet again with good news..
love you all..take care..
