This document provides an overview of splinting and traction techniques used to immobilize and treat fractures. It describes the history of splinting from ancient Egypt to modern developments. Various types of splints are defined for different parts of the body including the upper extremity, lower extremity, spine, and fingers. Application techniques and indications for different splints like the Thomas splint, Bohler Braun splint, and sugar tong splint are outlined. Traction methods like skin traction, skeletal traction using Steinmann pins or K-wires are also summarized. Complications of splinting and traction are briefly mentioned.
