2. CENTRALIZED AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM
• Central air conditioning circulate cool air through a
system of supply and return ducts. Supply ducts and
register (i. e., openings in the walls, floors, or ceiling
covered by grills) carry cooled air from the air
conditioner to the home. This cooled air becomes
warmer as it circulates through the home.
• Central air conditioning is a system in which air is
cooled at a central location and distributed to and
form rooms by one or more fans and ductwork. The
works of the air conditioning compressor is what
marks the whole process of air conditioning
possible.
3. Components of air conditioning system
• Compressor :-
• The compressor is responsible for moving the
refrigerant between the evaporator and condenser
coils, ensuring that the refrigerant changes to gas
or liquid as needed.
• The compressor pumps the refrigerant through the
system to keep it alive and running properly.
• Evaporator coil :-
• The evaporator coil is the component in your AC
system that absorbs the heat from the air inside
your home. It is often either attached to your
furnace or located on the inside of your air handler.
It works with a condenser coil to complete the heat
exchange process that produces cool air.
4. Components of air conditioning system
• Condenser coil :-
An AC condenser coil is made up of different tubes
that are filled up with refrigerant liquid. In order for it
to fully function, a chiller inside the coil cools the fluid
and moves through the condenser tubing.
• Thermal expansion valve :-
A thermal expansion valve or thermostatic expansion
valve is a component in vapor – compression
refrigeration and air conditioning systems that
controls the amount of refrigerant released into the
evaporator and is intended to regulate the superheat
of the refrigerant that flows out of the evaporator to
a steady value.
5. KUALA LUMPUR PERFORMING ARTS CENTRE
INTRODUCTION :-
Kuala lumpur performing arts centre (KLPAC)
is the choosen building for this mechanical
system research. KLPAC is ventilated by
mechanical ventilation and air- conditioning
system. These system comforts the space by
controlling the internal air temperature in
term to achieve thermal comfort. With the
support of these systems, the user in KLPAC
will have a comfortable and cooling space to
stay at. The air conditioning system that
used in KLPAC is unit air conditioning
system. GROUND FLOOR PLAN

6. SUPPLY AIR DIFFUSER AND GRILLE :-
• At least 2-3 connected vertical supply at diffuser had been
found at the main lobby different type of diffuser can be
found in the range from cost efficient type to complex and
efficient air distribution regarding to the requirements.
• Windows and opening allowing uninterrupted air passage
is not necessary if the rooms are equipped with
mechanical.
Exhaust air grille :-
• The function of the installation of exhaust air griller is to
expel the foul air which is inside the building. It helps to
carry the air back to the designated AHU rooms. The duct
behinds often being covered up by series of grillwork in
order to avoid obstacles entering or damaging the system.
In addition, filters are included into the installation to trap
pollutants and allow better airflow accessing the building.
It can require the maintenance cost by reduce the
frequent components break down.

7. Air handling unit (a.h.u.)-
• ANALYSIS :
Air – handling unit (A.H.U.) room in the building KLPAC
have reach the requirements of malasiyan standard code
of practice of energy efficiency and use of renewable
energy (MS 1525). It was located at the rear end of the
building that gives control panel to the person in charge.
This allows that person to shut or reduce the energy to any
space the not required in the building.
Fan-coil unit :-
• ANALYSIS :
Control panels can be found around the space where FCU were
installed to reduced the energy during the time where the space
is not used. The air conditioning and mechanical ventilation
system in KLPAC was installed to reach requirement started by
Malaysian standard code of practice on energy efficiency and use
of renewable energy (MS 1525)

10. Ductwork :-
• ANALYSIS :
The ducting system in the building KLPAC were fully
insulated to prevent any loss of energy that means the
requirement of Malaysian standard code of practice on
energy efficiency and use of renewable energy (MS 1525).
Air - cooled chilled water :-
• ANALYSIS :
The centralized chilled water at air conditioning system in
the buildings that the reach the requirements by Malaysian
standard code of practice of energy efficiency and use of
renewable energy (MS 1525) by installing two chillers at
the rear of KLPAC. One is used during the daytime
operating hours to reduce energy consumption while the
other one is installed to avoid any emergency like
breakdown or maintenance both of the chillers will be
function when there is a need for high cooling load.
