2. The relationship between area, perimeter and
volume is complex but easy to understand.
Area is the inside of a 2-D shape, like a rectangle
Perimeter is the distance around the outline of a
1-D and 2-D shape.
Volume is the maximum amount of something
that can be in containing devices/containers.
Perimeter is 1-D, area is 2-D and volume is 3-D
3. Area houses perimeter, while if you are
looking at volume, it houses area and
perimeter. If you have the perimeter of a
shape, then you can find the area of a
shape and if you have area and perimeter
you can find the volume of a specific
container.
4. Volume- the maximum amount or
number that can be received or contained
(air).
Perimeter- the length of a boundary or
outer boundary of a 2 dimensional figure.
Area-the surface included inside a set of
lines
5. Perimeter is the length of the border ( on
all sides) of a shape.
Area is the inside of a 2-D shape
Volume is the inside of a 3-D shape
6. To find area, you need to take the length of two
sides of a shape, multiply them and put the squared
sign at the end.
To find perimeter, you find the length of all the sides
of a shape, and then add them up.
To find volume, you find the area of a side of a 3-D
shape, and then multiply the number of sides.
7. Volume is displayed on next page
S=sides(2S x 2):area
Perimeter:S=sides(s + s + s + s)
These are related through these formulas
because area and perimeter are the same
except area is inside and perimeter is outside.
Volume is area and perimeter combined in a
3-D shape.
8. There are different 3-D shapes, so calculating
the volume of each one is a little different.
V = a3, length, base and height = a3:cube
V = abc: a=length, b=width, c= depth: rectangular
prism
V = πr2h, pi=3.14 x 2, 2 circular faces so it is squared,
h=height, r=radius: cylinder
V = (πr2h)/3, pi=3.14, r x 2 =radius, h=height : cone
V = (Ah)/3, a=area of base, h=height : pyramid
10. 2 x pi(3.14)=9.85. height of cylinder is 12 cm.
9.85 x 12=118cm3. It is essential that the cubed
sign is put at the end to signify 3 dimensions. 2
circular faces is 3.14 x 2 multiplied by the
height(12cm) :Volume
Each side is 9 cm, so
Each side is 10 cm
9 x 9=81cm ² :area
long so 10 + 10 + 10 +
10=40cm: Perimeter
