algorithm is stored here.
RAM-for fast computation
EEPROM- Its content are
not lost when power is off.
Databus- Connection
between elements of chip
10. Communication Process
1. Card reader can perform read or write functions on smart card.
2. Card Reader and Smart Card will communicate according to
transmission protocol.
3. Communication channel :- Half Duplex
4. Response data will send to the Server by using ETHERNET.
5. Application Protocol Data Unit
11. What are the threats ?
Confidentiality: unauthorized disclosuredisclosure of information
Integrity: unauthorized modificationmodification of information
Authenticity: unauthorized useuse of service
sender receiver
12. Objective of cryptography
• Giving trust in:
– authenticity of message and/or sender
– integrity of message
– (sometimes) confidentiality of message
• by using an algorithm based on a secret shared
between participants in a scheme.
15. Conclusions
• Smart card technology is emerging, applications are
everywhere
• Smart cards enhance service and security
• Perfect security does not exist, even not for smart cards
• Risk analysis is essential
