Off Campus Lunch Research Paper
Should we let a couple of car accidents take away off campus lunch for every student? Students
should have off campus lunch because it emits a sense of maturity and grants them better food choices
during lunch. To explain, off campus lunch is given as a reward for students who have excellent
grades and have followed all the school rules. Moreover, off campus lunch lasts for a whole class
period, which gives students opportunities to manage time and money while also enjoying their lunch.
However, there are some students who believe they do not need permission for off campus lunch and
feel that it s alright to arrive late to the class thus, ruining the fun for everybody.
Some students think that off campus lunch is a right or a free pass to

Television and Media Violence
Is Aggressive Behavior Linked to Television Violence?
According the Centerwall (1992), the average child aged 2 5 in 1990 watched 27 hours of
television per day, or almost 4 hours per day. When much of what is on television, including
cartoons and television shows targeted at children, contains violence, it becomes important to
know whether watching televised violence can lead to or increase aggressive behavior. Social
learning theory tells us that children model their behavior after those they see. It is reasonable,
then, to infer that watching violence on television will lead to behaving violently, due to the
modeling effect. The present study reviews some relevant prior research, and then investigates ...

Centerwall found that in between 1945 and 1975, the homicide rate in the US increased by
93%, while in Canada, the homicide rate increased by 92% after the introduction of television. In
South Africa, however, the homicide rate decreased by 7%. In case we might think that South
Africa is just a less violent country than the US or Canada, Centerwall included the homicide rates
for the three countries in 1987. In the US and Canada, no significant changes were noted,

showing that the homicide rate had reached a plateau, at a rate that was nearly twice the pre
television rate. In the fifteen years after South Africa received television, between 1975 and 1987,
the homicide rate increased by 130%. This is convincing evidence that television had an impact
on the homicide rates in the US and Canada, doubling the rate in 30 years, and more than
doubling the homicide rate in South Africa in only 15 years.
Centerwall notes that there was a delay of about 10 15 years between the introduction of
television in each country and the increase in homicide rates. He suggests that

None Of The Above Gender Analysis
I feel like Krissy: How Intersectionality enables None of the Above to Challenge the Sex and Gender
Binary Christina Elko Dr. Slater English Seminar I
In I. W. Gregorio s novel, None of the Above, Krissy is diagnosed with AIS; androgen insensitivity
syndrome. Androgen Insensitivity Syndrome, more commonly called AIS, is a genetic condition. It is
not a disease, or an infection, although for years those who demonstrate characteristics relating to this
condition have been degraded in public. She feels pressured through the gender rules that others have
placed on her, and is conflicted with her own gender identity. I argue that this text opposes the gender

This novel inherently queers the idea of normality by challenging the unstated norm. The idea of
normality is a social constructed idea, based upon the concepts that there is an inherent normal .
Normal is synonymous with expected, or conforming to a standard. However, when we analyze
gender and sex, we come to the realization that there is no standard, yet society finds comfort in the
usual male/female dynamic. Krissy s normal is that she has always been an athlete, and while always
feminine in nature, was never overtly feminine or sexual. She was well liked by many of her
classmates and so was Sam, who was also a three sport athlete. They were members of the popular
crowd in school, which is demonstrated when Krissy and her boyfriend win Homecoming King and
Queen in the beginning of the novel. After Homecoming, Krissy and Sam are in a limo, and Sam
convinces the driver to stop for a little in a parking lot, and Krissy has already decided that this would
be this night she lost her virginity. After a while, Krissy began to experience large amounts of pain,
and Sam stopped. They proceeded to go home, and Krissy made an appointment with an ob gyn for

Good And Bad Manners
Manners, impact our lives every moment, yet you don t realize it. When you came into this world,
your parents told you hold the door for her , say thank you , sharing is caring , or something similar.
They tell you that so it looks like they raised you in the correct manner and so you can make a good
first impression. Well, let me tell you something, some people don t have act accordingly. In this
essay, I will tell you how our society influences our kids to act disrespectful and having poor manners.
You may ask, how has society influenced our children? Well, firstly society tries to tell them what is
good for them and what isn t. A school has a major influence on it. Kids nowadays are pressured to
make bad decisions, for example, bad manners. Children who want to be cool try to do things to be in
the cool kids group . They will try everything in their power to make the other kids notice them. But,
when they are noticed and get accepted, that s when everything goes downhill. Since they are in that
group, they ll do anything to stay in that group. If that group curse, they curse, if that group is smart
mouthed, their smart mouthed, if they steal, so do they. Just be yourself, trust me, the world will be a
better place if you be you.
Another thing that can trigger the bad manner bomb, is the internet. Yes, the internet. Even though it
may sound silly, but there are cases with kids having bad manners on there. For example, cursing. You
may be thinking, well my

I m Looking For Being Smart
After giving this assignment a few good thoughts, I ve come to pick ten traits that I feel is the most
important when seeking for that special person. The first trait I m looking for is empathy. I feel like
empathy is a priority when seeking for a partner because I want to have someone whom I can share
my thoughts with, this is the person that will cheer me up when I m down and support me when I need
it most. The second trait is being positive. When seeking for a mate, I like someone who is always
cheerful and bright. I believe if I interact with this person long enough, their positivity will rub onto
me. The next trait is a personal preference, but I like a person who is not too tall or too short. Someone
around the five foot mark is the ideal height for me. The fourth trait I m looking for is being smart. I
like my mate to have a smart personality because I feel like they are prone to give better suggestions, a
person who is smart also tends to be more reasonable and rational. The fifth trait is another preference
one. When seeking for a partner, I prefer someone who is of the same nationality as me. I think this is
a common checklist that people use when finding someone. As for me, I feel that a person with the
same nationality as me will have more in common and be easier to relate to each other. The sixth trait
is to have long hair. I don t dislike people who have short hairs but I vastly prefer my partner to have
long hair. The next trait is another physical one. When

Two Faced Characters: The Moonstone
Mystery is the key for interesting characters and therefore an interesting story. The Moonstone, a
novel written by Wilkie Collins, follows the mystery of an ancient Indian diamond, known as the
Moonstone. The Moonstone has made its way into the Verinder House on the night of Rachel Verinder
s eighteenth birthday, and the trouble starts from there. Rachel Verinder and Franklin Blake are two
characters who migrate between being seen as the roles of victims and villains, therefore building up
the mystery and suspense displayed throughout the work. Rachel Verinder is a very unique teenager.
She is independent and wise, and doesn t need a man to support ... Show more content on

Franklin Blake was a very confusing character for he had his French side, and his German side, and
his Italian side and so forth (Collins 47). His character could fluctuate from being a model of
determination and a spectacle of helplessness in a matter of seconds (Collins 47). He and Rachel were
in love, yet later in the novel they could not bear to look at one another, leaving the reader (and other
characters in the book) to infer that the Moonstone was behind their bickering. There were times when
Mr. Blake was innocent, and others when he appeared guilty. For example, Franklin Blake was
actually seen by Rachel, taking the Indian diamond out from her cabinet in the middle of the night.
You villain, I saw you take the Diamond with my own eyes! Rachel had yelled at Franklin later in the
story. But, the plot twist was that Mr. Blake could remember nothing of taking the diamond. With the
later help of Ezra Jennings, who cleared Franklin Blake of accusations by proving that Franklin took
the Diamond, in a state of trance, produced by opium which had been secretly administered to Blake
by Mr. Candy, an opinionated doctor whom simply wished to prove a point (Collins 354). But there
was still the mystery as to what happened after Franklin Blake took the Diamond up to his room. But
everything came together in the end, when Godfrey Ablewhite was discovered dead in his hotel room
with an empty box (where the

Rheumatology Personal Statement
One of my earliest memories, is watching a small figure hobble across the stones with disfigured feet
and toes. This was my grandmother and as she dragged her body riddled with what I now believe to be
rheumatoid arthritis I always wonder how her life might have been changed with proper treatment.
Just when I thought Internal Medicine was my field, I was introduced to Rheumatology. It was during
my intern year when working in the Rheumatology Clinic. The core of my initial attraction was the
very proximity between Rheumatology and IM. Even as the mode of treatment hinged on working
with inherent uncertainty and innate complexity, you also needed to turn to IM fundamentals to
determine a diagnosis. Moreover, I found myself highly intrigued ... Show more content on

In that osteoporosis is a huge societal problem, causing a large number of fractures in the elderly
population and thus leading to a poor quality of life and worse, it was clear that education of
healthcare professionals was a must. Since the USPSTF guidelines state that all women over age 65
should get dexa scans to screen for osteoporosis and start on appropriate therapy to prevent these
fractures, it soon became clear that in our resident run outpatient clinics we were doing a very poor job
in this area. As such, with two colleagues, we designed an intervention protocol based on provider
education on osteoporosis for all residents, attendings, nurse practitioners and physician assistants.
Succinctly, the intervention increased the rate of dexa scan ordering by 34% and this trial is now in its
second phase.
There have been other equally important turning points to date. In my rotation at Georgetown, I
sought to explore the field of rheumatology at a tertiary level and in doing so, gained experience in
common autoimmune conditions and some rare ones as well all which served to solidify my interest in
the field. One of the most pleasant aspects of my duties at Georgetown was the opportunity to work
with children. In taking pediatric rheumatology consults, I realized that as a rheumatologist I may be
able to care for patients of all age groups, leading to an interesting and highly diversified

1 Peter Struggles
As we go through struggles and trials in our life, the theology of 1 Peter portrays the greatness of
going through these trials. One of the worst things that could ever happen to you is to be thrown into
exile, where you lose everything that you are familiar with and everything that you have ever known.
We see many people going through the hardest of struggles with being thrown into exile realize that
God is there and caring for them. God allows struggles in our life for us not to lose faith, but to
persevere through trials and become closer with him. 1 Peter shows us that we do not have to be
bummed when going through struggles in our life. The book of 1 Peter talks about God s children
being thrown into exile. This may be because of the people sinning. Being thrown into exile is one of
the worst things that could happen, because you become homeless and everything that you have
previously known about your life is going to change. I can t even fully grasp the depth of how difficult
going through an exile may be.
Going through an exile would make it really hard to be joyful, but what many people may not realize
is that this causes them to be very dependent on God. This dependency then turns into a closer
relationship with God because they are putting all of your trust in him. While going through a ... Show

Homelessness Is More Than Ruthlessness Essay
Homelessness is about more than ruthlessness. A home is not just a physical space; it also has a legal
and a social dimension. A home provides roots, identity, and a sense of belonging and a place of
emotional wellbeing. Homelessness is about the loss of all of these. It is an isolating and destructive
experience and homeless people are some of the most vulnerable and socially excluded in our society.
After years of declining trends, 2010 marked the turning point when all forms of homelessness began
to rise. However, it is likely that homelessness will increase yet further, as the delayed effects of the
economic downturn, cuts to housing benefit and other reforms all start to bite.
A survey of people experiencing homelessness found that over 70 per cent were suffering from a
physical health problem. This included respiratory problems, joint and muscle problems and stomach
problems.
There are many reasons why a person becomes homeless lack of affordable housing, loss of a job,
divorce, illness, substance abuse, domestic abuse. One of the first steps you can take toward helping
the homeless is trying to understand how they got there in the first place.
Homeless people can be affected by various situations such as health and mental issues, family issues
and having no job. The government currently offers food banks, job training and housing, but not to
every homeless person. This is wrong because it would not be fair to other people, the government
should offer this help to all

The Food Guide Pyramid Is Good
The food guide pyramid plays an important role in the health education of the majority of people in
the United States. It is meant to guide the general healthy public in how to eat healthy to stay healthy.
It includes a wide variety of foods to provide a healthy range of nutrients that are needed daily. The
food guide pyramid is an excellent way to educate the public on how to eat healthy. The new food
guide pyramid also includes exercise. This is a way to universally educate people. The food guide
pyramid is not a way to cure anything or solve any immediate problems; it is guidelines that help
people to understand what they should be eating. The food guide pyramid is meant for people without

(Davis and Saltos, 1999, p37) The first edition of these guidelines came out in 1980. The Dietary

the vegetable group the fruit group; the milk, yogurt, and the cheese group; and the meat. Poultry, fish,
dry beans, eggs, and nuts group, and recommends sparing use of a sixth food group fats, oils, and
sweets. (Davis and Saltos, 1999, p37) This is very close to what has been used since then. In 1988 the
groups were formed into a picture that could show what they were trying to say. A pyramid was chose
with the smallest amount of foods in a group at the top of the pyramid and the largest group at the
bottom of the pyramid. The second editions of the dietary guidelines came out in 1985, the third in
1990, and the fourth in 1995. After 1995 there was a mandate that required that a new edition came
out every 5 years. The guidelines have not changed drastically over the years. (Davis and Saltos,
1999) Furthermore, scientists had found little evidence that a high intake of carbohydrates is
beneficial, since 1992 more and more research has shown that the USDA pyramid is grossly flawed.
By promoting the consumption of all complex carbohydrates and eschewing all fats and oils, the
pyramid provides misleading guidance. In short, not all fats are bad for you, and by no means are all

Serpico Ethical Issues Essay
Serpico is about a New York police officer, Frank Serpico, or Paco , who got shot in the face for
reporting police corruption in the New York Police Department (NYPD). Fellow officers did not help
him when he was wounded. This movie portrayed real life events and factors that go on in our police
forces today. There are a lot of ethical issues that go on in this movie. Men are beaten, punished, lied
to, and deceived by police officers. Serpico testified against all police corruption and was left derelict
in a crucial time of need. Officers today need to work together in a positive and ethical way in order to
get their job done the right way. This film really grabbed my interest by depicting real life situations

Frank was very ethical in his work and allowed his fellow officers to have the arrest. It is very
unethical for police officers to receive cash bribes and sell drugs in order to make extra money. Selling
drugs and receiving bribes is certainly against the law and any officer who engages in such activity is
not ethical. Frank Serpico went to his captain and the New York mayor about this corruption, but they
did not do anything about it. It was also very unethical of Serpico s partners to abandon him when he
needed help and then got shot. These issues were finally resolved when Frank Serpico reported such
activities to the press and it made front page in New York Times. The mayor, John Lindsay, was then
forced to appoint the Knapp Commission to investigate the truth.
Serpico testified against fellow police officers, breaking the blue code of silence , which is an
unwritten rule among police officers not to report fellow officer wrongdoings, to the Knapp
Commission on May 10, 1971. I hope that police officers in the future will not experience the same
frustration and anxiety that I was subjected to for the past five years at the hands of my superiors
because of my attempt to report corruption. We create an atmosphere in which the honest officer fears
the dishonest officer, and not the other way around. The problem is that the atmosphere does not yet

How Does Shakespeare Present The Character Of Lady Anne s...
In Shakespeare s play Richard III there are a handful of female characters that have limited
appearances throughout the play, and it can be argued that some of these characters could be removed
without having any major impact on the overall play. Lady Anne s appearance in act one scene two
highlights Richard s evil character through the way he manipulates her to become his wife after he has
murdered her husband Prince Edward, and demonstrates the dependence the female characters have
on men for maintaining status in a patriarchal society. Lady Anne only appears twice throughout the
play, though she enhances Richard s evil character by the ways in which he is able to convince her that
he murdered her husband because he was captivated by her beauty. Her initial response when she sees

She is powerful in her delivery of words, yet as a woman in society she does not have the same power.
Shakespeare uses Lady Anne s lines to present metaphorical figures to represent the true evil character
of Richard, such as a basilisk and the devil although he matches her comments with praises of her
beauty. This reveals his intelligence, as he understands that he can persuade her by appealing to her
vanity. Although Lady Anne seems firm in her opinion of him, this scene demonstrates the Richard s
ability to manipulate through language alone. Though he admits to killing Lady Anne s husband, he
explains Your beauty was the cause of that effect/Your beauty, that did haunt me in my sleep/To
undertake the death of all the world/So I might live one hour in your sweet bosom (1.2.126 129). In
this line he appeals to her vanity and persuades her that her beauty is so great that it can force him to
do unspeakable things. Richard blames her for his actions and

Benefits Of A Incentive Pay For Teachers
Incentive Pay for Teachers
If you re a student, it may not be long before you find yourself in a classroom competing with peers
from all over the world. With the ensuing tide of globalization, the top companies and firms will be
able to look beyond students from local schools and access a growing global talent pool. Over the last
two decades, countries around the world have focused on expanding and innovating education as the
key to maximizing well being, reducing poverty, and increasing economic growth. As a result, Canada
may soon find itself trailing behind international standards, which would gravely impact Canada s
ability to stay competitive with the global economy. Having spent the second most out of 32
developed countries in the world, Canadians understand the importance of investing in education.
Improving education outcomes is a key priority for governments around the world, if Canada wants to
stay competitive it must be willing to innovate. One idea long neglected: incentive pay for teachers.
It sounds simple enough: an honest day s pay for an honest day s work, those who achieve better
results should be better compensated in return. But depending on who you ask, the notion is either
rationally straightforward or utterly perverse.
The idea that teachers should be compensated based on their performance has Canadians entrenched
in a heated debate. In 2014, a report published by the Fraser Institute advocating for teacher incentive
pay was immediately met with

Modernism In Waiting For Godot
INTRODUCTION
The modern era in literature occupied the late years of nineteenth and early years of twentieth century.
The period was marked by a strong and intentional break with tradition. This break includes a strong
reaction against established religious, traditional, political, and social views. It was an influential
period that shaped the development of western civilization throughout the twentieth century. A
thorough analysis of modern philosophy, culture, and art reveals the mindset of modernity and how
the historical events of the era influenced life during the early 1900s.
This period influenced a lot of literary figures in twentieth century, which is displayed by them
through their works. The poets especially, were largely expressive ... Show more content on

Even the tone of the play is also dull. Vladimir and Estragon is shown with only one purpose in the

The Crucible
A dramatist who explores the theme of revenge throughout his play is Arthur Miller in The Crucible.
There are different characters in this play that carry this theme of revenge, Abigail being one in
particular, as she seeks revenge against Goody Proctor. This is due to Goody Proctor firing Abigail
from her job after she had found out Abigail had had an affair with her husband. This seventeen year
old girl also has an endless capacity for dissembling. John Proctor, Reverend Parris, and the Putnam s

literally do not like him. The individual on the other hand who Parris seeks his settling of scores with
is John Proctor, as he does not respect Parris as a reverend. Parris s dislike towards Proctor clearly is
empathised in act three, which is set in the courtroom. Made known by Parris s subtle comments about
Proctor, such like Beware this man, your Excellency, this man is mischief and He s come to overthrow

thoughts about Proctor across. This proposal shows through the words Excellency and Honour that
Parris is trying to get the attention of Judge Hathorne as he directs theses comments straight to him.
Parris s revenge towards Proctor is clear once he expresses that John is not a good Christian, as he
does not attain church regularly. This observation, which Parris has made, is one of the main reasons
to why Parris reacts to Proctor in the ways he does. This revenge is not as strong as Abigail s and

because he knew his son would avenge his death allowing him to receive divine in Heaven.
Throughout the Elizabethan Era no one in that time period knew how much of an influence they
would have on all of the world. In Caffery s words, [The] Elizabethan Era was a period of time from
1558 to 1603 known as the golden age in English history. Queen Elizabeth I reigned over England
while all around the arts flourished in the society (Caffrey). William Shakespeare was one of the most
iconic writers in this era, for his use of all the genres like history, tragedy, and comedy in his plays and
sonnets. During this time people became more comfortable with this unknown that most plays and
sonnets included like purgatory, but they were still not comfortable with talking about ghosts walking
on the earth.
Even though each religious leader in the Elizabethan Era set how their people should have thought
about Purgatory, they all had the same definition of what it was. Purgatory is defined as, the prison in
which ghosts were normally incarcerated, though they might be allowed to escape now and then to
briefly haunt those of the living whose zeal in their behalf was insufficient (Low). A soul that is
repenting their sins in Purgatory is called a Poor Soul unlike the Damned who are the souls in

This sensitive issue has always been huge around the world. I do not think I would change the

Essay On Reconstruction After The Civil War
From April 12, 1861, to May 9, 1865, the United States had one of its bloodiest conflicts that it was
ever involved in. The Civil War was a war between the North and the South of the United States.
During this war, there were around 620,000 men that were killed. This war ended after Confederate
general Edmund Kirby Smith surrendered his troops. At this point the fighting had ceased, however,
the tensions between the North and the South were still present. There were still disagreements on the
rights of the now freed blacks. After the Civil War, there was a question on how the South would re
enter the government of the Union and how the southern states were going to view the blacks. This
time period after the Civil War where these questions were answered is known as The Reconstruction
and lasted from 1863 1877. During this time period, President Lincoln was murdered and President
Johnson was impeached. Congress also made major additions to the Constitution that they thought
would bring equality to the South. These changes caused a backlash and whites tried to get back to the
way things were before the war when whites had all the power. Despite a few positive outcomes, this
era of reconstruction of the South ultimately failed. Presidents Lincoln s plan in 1863 was to reunite ...

Ocean Currents Affect Coastal Climates
Wind powered surface currents and waves, along with moon and sun powered tides, greatly impact
Earth s coastlines. As warm or cold water ocean currents affect coastal climates, waves release energy,
shifting sand and sediments, eroding and replenishing coastline shores; all while tides raise and lower
sea level. Florida s east coast, encompassed by barrier islands, is affected by subtropical ocean waters
provided by the Gulf Stream, facilitating warm and humid climates, as well as hurricanes. As these
warm ocean waters interact with Florida s barrier islands, through wave action and tides, its coastline
continuously transforms.
The ocean current that flows north alongside Florida s east coast, the Gulf Stream, is one of the most
important factors in determining Florida s climate. Beginning near the equator, the warm waters of the
North Equatorial Current eventually feed into the Gulf Stream, which begins at the southern tip of
Florida. This Equatorial transfer of heat through ocean currents is what facilitates Florida s warm and
humid climate. To illustrate the influence ocean currents have on coastal climates, we can compare the
climate of Puerto San Carlos, Baja California Sur with the climate of Miami, Florida, because they
reside on North America s west and east coasts respectively, around the 25 N Latitude line. Puerto San
Carlos has a desert climate, averaging under 3 inches of precipitation per year, with 70 degree average
temperatures; while Miami has a

The Concept of Encounter of Cultures in the Philosophy of History
ABSTRACT: A general problem of philosophical interests concerns the possibility of objective
knowledge of other cultures and a past culture, as well as the adequacy of their reconstruction. The
problem of cultural development is also crucial. By the criterion I develop, a culture which has
expanded its potentialities in various independent forms is an open culture able to enter into dialogue
with any other culture. 1. To begin with, I must mention that at first I intended to present my paper at
the Section of Philosophy of History, because the point at issue here has a great concern to the concept
of history and to the methodological approaches of historians. ... Show more content on

The phenomenon of encounter of cultures has been known and described long ago, but in its definite
meaning the theoretical analysis of the phenomenon may be dated by the late 19th and early 20th cc.,
the period of shaping of contemporary anthropology and philosophy of history. In this connection, in
the field of the philosophy of history the work of Arnold Toynbee ought to be mentioned who has put
forward a conception and a model for systematic representation of the whole diversity of historical
facts concerning the encounter of societies, civilizations, cultures in space and time, (1) and, in the
field of ethnology, the work of the American cultural anthropologists, of Franz Boas school, in which
theory and practice of intercultural and cross cultural research have been initiated in different forms.

Aristotle And Samford

standard, would you break them? I heard a variety of answers from different students. However, one
individual talked about how by going to Samford, we acknowledge their laws and therefore are
obligated to follow them because we attend this University. He went on to say that we give up certain
freedoms when we go into different places because everyone has differing beliefs about how things
should work. He continued by saying that if we have a problem with the way Samford is run or what
they are making us do then we can leave because it is not our job to tell them how to govern, but to

In order to understand this more completely, Aristotle says, For even if the end is the same for a single
man and for a state, that of the state seems at all events though it is worth while to attain the end
merely for one man, it is finer and more godlike to attain it for a nation or for city states
(Nicomachean Ethics, 66). Aristotle believes that the state and the individual should work hand in
hand to be successful. Also, he believes that a human s natural desire is to be happy. Therefore, if the
government and the individual were working hand in hand then both parties should be happy. People
are born to be governed, he argues. According to Aristotle, laws should express human nature. The
laws should line up with what we believe. Aristotle also points out that there is no such thing as
personal morality. Therefore, no need to challenge the authority of the government. Parts of Aristotle s
view agree with what the person I interviewed said about this question, but other parts do not.

Scheduling In Ant Colony
3.3 Scheduling in Ant Colony
CPU scheduling is the basis of multiprogrammed operating systems. By switching the CPU among
processes, the operating system can make the computer more productive.
In a single processor system, only one process can run at a time; any others must wait until the CPU is
free and can be rescheduled. The objective of multiprogramming is to have some process running at
all times, to maximize CPU utilization. The idea is relatively simple. A process is executed until it
must wait, typically for the completion of some I/O request. In a simple computer system, the CPU
then just sits idle. All this waiting time is wasted; no useful work is accomplished. With
multiprogramming, we try to use this time productively. Several processes are kept in memory at one
time. When one process has to wait, the operating system takes the CPU away from that process and
gives the CPU to another process. This pattern continues. Every time one process has to wait, another
process can take over use of the CPU. Scheduling of this kind is a fundamental operating system
function [18].
Scheduling problems play a central role in ACO research, and many different types of scheduling
problems have been attacked with ACO algorithms (see table 2 [1]) The performance, however, varies

Service and Asset Privatization Essay example
The rapid interest in privatization stroked when all the levels of government economies were
persistently challenging in running their operations during last two to three decades of twentieth
century (Shirley, 1992). Since then, privatization of public sectors has been a key factor of structural
reform programs in both developed and developing countries (Sheshinski Lopez Calva, 2003). The
process of transferring ownership of public services from the public sector (the part which is
controlled by government) to private sectors (the part which is owned and controlled by private party)
is called privatization (Investopia, 2013). According to Sarah E. Gollust and Peter D. Jacobson,

Primarily, privatization is to achieve higher allocation and productive efficiency and to strengthen the
role of private sector in the economy (Sheshinski Lopez Calva, 2003). They describe that these two
objectives are the main reasons behind government contracting its sectors to private parties and are
associated with microeconomic efficiency. Secondarily, it is to improve the public sector s financial
health and to free resources for allocation in other important areas of government activity usually
related to social policy (Sheshinski Lopez Calva, 2003). For the next ones, they explain that these
reduce the level of borrowing and reallocate the possible expenditure towards social policy areas, and
these are connected to public sector finance.
Literature Review: In this research, I have conducted studies on three important aspect of public sector
where privatization has taken place and from which I could draw a conclusive end. The first among
them is the privatization of state prison. The first privatization of prison in United States was done in
1986 and soon after, the numbers continue to increase rapidly (Burkhardt, 2009). From theory driven
historical analysis, he finds out that the rising population, interventionist federal courts, and the link
between the private contractors and members of state governments are the causing factors of state
prison privatization. In

Britain And The American Colonies
There is always a difference between the ones that conquer and the ones that are conquered. In this
case, Britain and the American colonies developed great gaps during time, not only religious,
economical and finally cultural. The beginning of this separation between the colonists and Britain
runs deep. The Britain crown didn t invest directly in the search of colonies in the Americas and by
doing so, it gave the colonist a lose rope to start developing a new vision.
The colonists had little or nothing to report directly to the crown and what they reported could take
months to reach Britain and even more for Britain to do something about it. The vision that Britain
developed from America is the response to the vision that is created during the first years of the
colony. A wild land with abundance of resources that can generate a profit to the empire. In this vision
the colonies are not seen as part of the empire. It is a land that it is in the power of Britain s to be used
as they see fit. This would generate big problems in the future when the population and popularity of
the colonies start to grow proportionally with the profit that the colonies generate.
The fact that the Britain government did not have a strong presence in the colonies is the first step to a
new mentality. Of course, the change of mentality took generations, and even when the general
population respected the Britain crown, the devotion to a king that an ocean away from the started to

has seen the gap between the haves and have nots increase. To determine who the haves and have nots

Australia is a market economy which distributes income to factors of production land, labour, capital

economy from another. The distribution of income in the economy is in the form of wages, salaries,
rent, interests and profit, all which are distributed by the factors of production (L. Kirkwood et al:
2006). Unlike income, wealth is the stock of goods and assets owned by individuals and the nation as
a whole at a given period of time L. Kirkwood et al: 2006). As well as possessions individuals can also
obtain wealth through education or obtaining a particular skill. It is with wages and salaries that

New Media In The Turn Within By Susan J. Douglas
New media is a less traditional version of media resulting from the digitization of almost everything.
Compared to its predecessor, new media is instantaneous, interactive, and universally accessible. The
largest aspect of new media is social media. It s role in today s media environment presents an
interesting paradox. On one hand, social media is rather limiting. It is incredibly easy to tailor one s
online experience to their personal beliefs and perspective. At the same time, social media presents the
opportunity to connect with the world at large. To say that new media allows for one but the not the
other would be incorrect. Today s society is one that both reveres and fears social media, leaving
people in an interesting position. In her essay The Turn Within , Susan J. Douglas discusses how
communications technologies have led to an inward, narcissistic scope instead of creating a global
village in which the world is bound together. There are oftentimes calls for a return to old media due
to (somewhat unfounded) fears of newer media making people anti social and self absorbed. But how

Persuasive Essay On Dogs
Plato was quoted as saying [a] dog has the soul of a philosopher ( ). Plato was one of the most
influential philosophers in history, and he agreed that dogs are more than just animals. Dogs have
always been extremely popular animals, and for good reason. They are incredibly intelligent, talented,
and versatile. Due to these characteristics, dogs are able to adopt many different positions. Dogs can
take on many roles in society including household pets, service or therapy dogs, police dogs, and
search and rescue dogs. Dogs are a staple in the typical American household. Even the White House
has been home to many dogs over the years, as every president since Warren Harding, excluding
Donald Trump, has owned a dog ( ). According to a study done by the American Pet Products

because they are so gentle. Labrador retrievers and other energetic dogs are good for people with
active lifestyles. Chihuahuas and other smaller breeds are good for people who prefer to stay inside.
The American Kennel Club has an online test to determine what breed of dog would best suit a person

  • 3. Television and Media Violence Is Aggressive Behavior Linked to Television Violence? According the Centerwall (1992), the average child aged 2 5 in 1990 watched 27 hours of television per day, or almost 4 hours per day. When much of what is on television, including cartoons and television shows targeted at children, contains violence, it becomes important to know whether watching televised violence can lead to or increase aggressive behavior. Social learning theory tells us that children model their behavior after those they see. It is reasonable, then, to infer that watching violence on television will lead to behaving violently, due to the modeling effect. The present study reviews some relevant prior research, and then investigates ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Centerwall found that in between 1945 and 1975, the homicide rate in the US increased by 93%, while in Canada, the homicide rate increased by 92% after the introduction of television. In South Africa, however, the homicide rate decreased by 7%. In case we might think that South Africa is just a less violent country than the US or Canada, Centerwall included the homicide rates for the three countries in 1987. In the US and Canada, no significant changes were noted, Homicides per 100,000 1945 1974 % Change 1987 % Change United States

In the fifteen years after South Africa received television, between 1975 and 1987, the homicide rate increased by 130%. This is convincing evidence that television had an impact on the homicide rates in the US and Canada, doubling the rate in 30 years, and more than doubling the homicide rate in South Africa in only 15 years. Centerwall notes that there was a delay of about 10 15 years between the introduction of television in each country and the increase in homicide rates. He suggests that

W. Gregorio s novel, None of the Above, Krissy is diagnosed with AIS; androgen insensitivity syndrome. Androgen Insensitivity Syndrome, more commonly called AIS, is a genetic condition. It is not a disease, or an infection, although for years those who demonstrate characteristics relating to this condition have been degraded in public. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This novel inherently queers the idea of normality by challenging the unstated norm. The idea of normality is a social constructed idea, based upon the concepts that there is an inherent normal . Normal is synonymous with expected, or conforming to a standard. However, when we analyze gender and sex, we come to the realization that there is no standard, yet society finds comfort in the usual male/female dynamic. Krissy s normal is that she has always been an athlete, and while always feminine in nature, was never overtly feminine or sexual. She was well liked by many of her classmates and so was Sam, who was also a three sport athlete. They were members of the popular crowd in school, which is demonstrated when Krissy and her boyfriend win Homecoming King and Queen in the beginning of the novel. After Homecoming, Krissy and Sam are in a limo, and Sam convinces the driver to stop for a little in a parking lot, and Krissy has already decided that this would be this night she lost her virginity. When you came into this world, your parents told you hold the door for her , say thank you , sharing is caring , or something similar. They tell you that so it looks like they raised you in the correct manner and so you can make a good first impression. Well, let me tell you something, some people don t have act accordingly. In this essay, I will tell you how our society influences our kids to act disrespectful and having poor manners. You may ask, how has society influenced our children? Well, firstly society tries to tell them what is good for them and what isn t. A school has a major influence on it. Kids nowadays are pressured to make bad decisions, for example, bad manners. Children who want to be cool try to do things to be in the cool kids group . They will try everything in their power to make the other kids notice them. But, when they are noticed and get accepted, that s when everything goes downhill. Since they are in that group, they ll do anything to stay in that group. If that group curse, they curse, if that group is smart mouthed, their smart mouthed, if they steal, so do they. Just be yourself, trust me, the world will be a better place if you be you. Another thing that can trigger the bad manner bomb, is the internet. Yes, the internet. Even though it may sound silly, but there are cases with kids having bad manners on there. For example, cursing. You may be thinking, well my ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. I m Looking For Being Smart After giving this assignment a few good thoughts, I ve come to pick ten traits that I feel is the most important when seeking for that special person. The first trait I m looking for is empathy. I feel like empathy is a priority when seeking for a partner because I want to have someone whom I can share my thoughts with, this is the person that will cheer me up when I m down and support me when I need it most. The second trait is being positive. When seeking for a mate, I like someone who is always cheerful and bright. I believe if I interact with this person long enough, their positivity will rub onto me. The next trait is a personal preference, but I like a person who is not too tall or too short. Someone around the five foot mark is the ideal height for me. The fourth trait I m looking for is being smart. I like my mate to have a smart personality because I feel like they are prone to give better suggestions, a person who is smart also tends to be more reasonable and rational. The fifth trait is another preference one. When seeking for a partner, I prefer someone who is of the same nationality as me. I think this is a common checklist that people use when finding someone. As for me, I feel that a person with the same nationality as me will have more in common and be easier to relate to each other. The sixth trait is to have long hair. I don t dislike people who have short hairs but I vastly prefer my partner to have long hair. The next trait is another physical one. When ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Moonstone has made its way into the Verinder House on the night of Rachel Verinder s eighteenth birthday, and the trouble starts from there. Rachel Verinder and Franklin Blake are two characters who migrate between being seen as the roles of victims and villains, therefore building up the mystery and suspense displayed throughout the work. Franklin Blake was a very confusing character for he had his French side, and his German side, and his Italian side and so forth (Collins 47). His character could fluctuate from being a model of determination and a spectacle of helplessness in a matter of seconds (Collins 47). He and Rachel were in love, yet later in the novel they could not bear to look at one another, leaving the reader (and other characters in the book) to infer that the Moonstone was behind their bickering. There were times when Mr. Blake was innocent, and others when he appeared guilty. For example, Franklin Blake was actually seen by Rachel, taking the Indian diamond out from her cabinet in the middle of the night. You villain, I saw you take the Diamond with my own eyes! Rachel had yelled at Franklin later in the story. But, the plot twist was that Mr. Blake could remember nothing of taking the diamond. With the later help of Ezra Jennings, who cleared Franklin Blake of accusations by proving that Franklin took the Diamond, in a state of trance, produced by opium which had been secretly administered to Blake by Mr. Candy, an opinionated doctor whom simply wished to prove a point (Collins 354). But there was still the mystery as to what happened after Franklin Blake took the Diamond up to his room. But everything came together in the end, when Godfrey Ablewhite was discovered dead in his hotel room with an empty box (where the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This was my grandmother and as she dragged her body riddled with what I now believe to be rheumatoid arthritis I always wonder how her life might have been changed with proper treatment. Just when I thought Internal Medicine was my field, I was introduced to Rheumatology. It was during my intern year when working in the Rheumatology Clinic. The core of my initial attraction was the very proximity between Rheumatology and IM. Even as the mode of treatment hinged on working with inherent uncertainty and innate complexity, you also needed to turn to IM fundamentals to determine a diagnosis. In that osteoporosis is a huge societal problem, causing a large number of fractures in the elderly population and thus leading to a poor quality of life and worse, it was clear that education of healthcare professionals was a must. Since the USPSTF guidelines state that all women over age 65 should get dexa scans to screen for osteoporosis and start on appropriate therapy to prevent these fractures, it soon became clear that in our resident run outpatient clinics we were doing a very poor job in this area. As such, with two colleagues, we designed an intervention protocol based on provider education on osteoporosis for all residents, attendings, nurse practitioners and physician assistants. Succinctly, the intervention increased the rate of dexa scan ordering by 34% and this trial is now in its second phase. There have been other equally important turning points to date. One of the worst things that could ever happen to you is to be thrown into exile, where you lose everything that you are familiar with and everything that you have ever known. We see many people going through the hardest of struggles with being thrown into exile realize that God is there and caring for them. God allows struggles in our life for us not to lose faith, but to persevere through trials and become closer with him. 1 Peter shows us that we do not have to be bummed when going through struggles in our life. Being thrown into exile is one of the worst things that could happen, because you become homeless and everything that you have previously known about your life is going to change. A home provides roots, identity, and a sense of belonging and a place of emotional wellbeing. Homelessness is about the loss of all of these. It is an isolating and destructive experience and homeless people are some of the most vulnerable and socially excluded in our society. After years of declining trends, 2010 marked the turning point when all forms of homelessness began to rise. However, it is likely that homelessness will increase yet further, as the delayed effects of the economic downturn, cuts to housing benefit and other reforms all start to bite. A survey of people experiencing homelessness found that over 70 per cent were suffering from a physical health problem. This included respiratory problems, joint and muscle problems and stomach problems. There are many reasons why a person becomes homeless lack of affordable housing, loss of a job, divorce, illness, substance abuse, domestic abuse. Frank Serpico went to his captain and the New York mayor about this corruption, but they did not do anything about it. • 27. Ocean Currents Affect Coastal Climates Wind powered surface currents and waves, along with moon and sun powered tides, greatly impact Earth s coastlines. As warm or cold water ocean currents affect coastal climates, waves release energy, shifting sand and sediments, eroding and replenishing coastline shores; all while tides raise and lower sea level. Florida s east coast, encompassed by barrier islands, is affected by subtropical ocean waters provided by the Gulf Stream, facilitating warm and humid climates, as well as hurricanes. As these warm ocean waters interact with Florida s barrier islands, through wave action and tides, its coastline continuously transforms. The ocean current that flows north alongside Florida s east coast, the Gulf Stream, is one of the most important factors in determining Florida s climate. Beginning near the equator, the warm waters of the North Equatorial Current eventually feed into the Gulf Stream, which begins at the southern tip of Florida. This Equatorial transfer of heat through ocean currents is what facilitates Florida s warm and humid climate. To illustrate the influence ocean currents have on coastal climates, we can compare the climate of Puerto San Carlos, Baja California Sur with the climate of Miami, Florida, because they reside on North America s west and east coasts respectively, around the 25 N Latitude line. • 31. Aristotle And Samford When I proposed the question, If the laws of Samford were causing you to go against your own moral standard, would you break them? I heard a variety of answers from different students. However, one individual talked about how by going to Samford, we acknowledge their laws and therefore are obligated to follow them because we attend this University. He went on to say that we give up certain freedoms when we go into different places because everyone has differing beliefs about how things should work. He continued by saying that if we have a problem with the way Samford is run or what they are making us do then we can leave because it is not our job to tell them how to govern, but to find a place that lines up with how we think a place should ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In order to understand this more completely, Aristotle says, For even if the end is the same for a single man and for a state, that of the state seems at all events though it is worth while to attain the end merely for one man, it is finer and more godlike to attain it for a nation or for city states (Nicomachean Ethics, 66). Aristotle believes that the state and the individual should work hand in hand to be successful. Also, he believes that a human s natural desire is to be happy. Therefore, if the government and the individual were working hand in hand then both parties should be happy. People are born to be governed, he argues. According to Aristotle, laws should express human nature. The laws should line up with what we believe. Aristotle also points out that there is no such thing as personal morality. Therefore, no need to challenge the authority of the government. Parts of Aristotle s view agree with what the person I interviewed said about this question, but other parts do not. Aristotle would agree that you should not challenge the authority of those governing over you, but he would find out how it fits with your human nature instead of leaving. • 32. Scheduling In Ant Colony 3.3 Scheduling in Ant Colony CPU scheduling is the basis of multiprogrammed operating systems. By switching the CPU among processes, the operating system can make the computer more productive. In a single processor system, only one process can run at a time; any others must wait until the CPU is free and can be rescheduled. The objective of multiprogramming is to have some process running at all times, to maximize CPU utilization. The idea is relatively simple. A process is executed until it must wait, typically for the completion of some I/O request. In a simple computer system, the CPU then just sits idle. All this waiting time is wasted; no useful work is accomplished. With multiprogramming, we try to use this time productively. Several processes are kept in memory at one time. When one process has to wait, the operating system takes the CPU away from that process and gives the CPU to another process. This pattern continues. Every time one process has to wait, another process can take over use of the CPU. Scheduling of this kind is a fundamental operating system function [18]. Scheduling problems play a central role in ACO research, and many different types of scheduling problems have been attacked with ACO algorithms (see table 2 [1]) The performance, however, varies across problems. Service and Asset Privatization Essay example The rapid interest in privatization stroked when all the levels of government economies were persistently challenging in running their operations during last two to three decades of twentieth century (Shirley, 1992). Since then, privatization of public sectors has been a key factor of structural reform programs in both developed and developing countries (Sheshinski Lopez Calva, 2003). The process of transferring ownership of public services from the public sector (the part which is controlled by government) to private sectors (the part which is owned and controlled by private party) is called privatization (Investopia, 2013). Primarily, privatization is to achieve higher allocation and productive efficiency and to strengthen the role of private sector in the economy (Sheshinski Lopez Calva, 2003). They describe that these two objectives are the main reasons behind government contracting its sectors to private parties and are associated with microeconomic efficiency. Secondarily, it is to improve the public sector s financial health and to free resources for allocation in other important areas of government activity usually related to social policy (Sheshinski Lopez Calva, 2003). For the next ones, they explain that these reduce the level of borrowing and reallocate the possible expenditure towards social policy areas, and these are connected to public sector finance. Literature Review: In this research, I have conducted studies on three important aspect of public sector where privatization has taken place and from which I could draw a conclusive end. The first among them is the privatization of state prison. The first privatization of prison in United States was done in 1986 and soon after, the numbers continue to increase rapidly (Burkhardt, 2009). From theory driven historical analysis, he finds out that the rising population, interventionist federal courts, and the link between the private contractors and members of state governments are the causing factors of state prison privatization. • 34. Britain And The American Colonies There is always a difference between the ones that conquer and the ones that are conquered. In this case, Britain and the American colonies developed great gaps during time, not only religious, economical and finally cultural. The beginning of this separation between the colonists and Britain runs deep. The Britain crown didn t invest directly in the search of colonies in the Americas and by doing so, it gave the colonist a lose rope to start developing a new vision. The colonists had little or nothing to report directly to the crown and what they reported could take months to reach Britain and even more for Britain to do something about it. The vision that Britain developed from America is the response to the vision that is created during the first years of the colony. A wild land with abundance of resources that can generate a profit to the empire. In this vision the colonies are not seen as part of the empire. It is a land that it is in the power of Britain s to be used as they see fit. This would generate big problems in the future when the population and popularity of the colonies start to grow proportionally with the profit that the colonies generate. The fact that the Britain government did not have a strong presence in the colonies is the first step to a new mentality. Of course, the change of mentality took generations, and even when the general population respected the Britain crown, the devotion to a king that an ocean away from the started to create a ... • 36. New Media In The Turn Within By Susan J. Douglas New media is a less traditional version of media resulting from the digitization of almost everything. Compared to its predecessor, new media is instantaneous, interactive, and universally accessible. The largest aspect of new media is social media. It s role in today s media environment presents an interesting paradox. On one hand, social media is rather limiting. It is incredibly easy to tailor one s online experience to their personal beliefs and perspective. At the same time, social media presents the opportunity to connect with the world at large. To say that new media allows for one but the not the other would be incorrect. Today s society is one that both reveres and fears social media, leaving people in an interesting position. In her essay The Turn Within , Susan J. Douglas discusses how communications technologies have led to an inward, narcissistic scope instead of creating a global village in which the world is bound together. There are oftentimes calls for a return to old media due to (somewhat unfounded) fears of newer media making people anti social and self absorbed.
