The Importance Of Internet Censorship In China
We have all been on our usual search engine and clicked on the random news articles. Whether it be
Kim Kardashian s holiday or the controversy between Donald Trump and the Russian president. We
are free to roam the internet here in Australia without the thought of someone stalking our searches.
However, some countries strictly limit the information the public is exposed to. Specifically, China
s internetrelies on censoring content to protect the public from cybercrimes and preventing the
leakage of information about the country. But is censorshipin China implemented to do harm to its
society, or purely to protect it? What is the extent of China s internet censorshipthat is actually
necessary for societal protection?
What is censorship in China?
Censorship is a way to control the information the public in China is able to see. Web chats, search
engines and social media platforms are the main aspects censored on the Chinese internet.
Controversial and belittling content are sought out by human and technical censors to be removed.
The Great Firewall is the main technical way the Chinese government is able to censor various
aspects of the internet and was initiated by China s Ministry of Public Security. Social media
platforms such as Facebook, Twitter and YouTube are censored as one can search up, for example,
how to overthrow the government, as stated by Jason Q. Ing, a researcher who delves deep into the
Chinese internet to understand the mysteries behind censorship . A

Problem Of Clapham Omnibus
The Reasonable Man :
It has been held by the courts that the test of reasonableness is that of the ordinary man or also
called as the reasonable man . In Bolam case, it was discussed that:
In an ordinary case it is generally said you judge it by the action of the man in the street. He is the
ordinary man. In one case it has been said you judge it by the conduct of the man on the top of a
Clapham omnibus. He is the ordinary man.
Why the mention of Clapham omnibus ? The Bolam judgment was pronounced in 1957 and
Clapham, at that time, was a nondescript south London suburb. It represented ordinary London.
Omnibus was used at that time for the public bus. Thus, the man on the top of a Clapham omnibus
was a hypothetical person, who was reasonably educated and intelligent but was a non specialist.
The courts used to judge the conduct of any defendant by comparing it with that of the hypothetical
ordinary man .

Therefore, medical professionals must learn how to prevent malpractice litigation, rather than

MONOLINGUAL WORD ALIGNMENT MODEL FOR RETRIEVING

Abstract:
In a global economy, mining the opinion relations between opinion targets and opinion words was
the key to collective extraction. To this end, the most adopted techniques have been nearest
neighbor rules and syntactic patterns. To improve the performance of these methods, we can
specially design exquisite, high precision patterns. However, with an increase in corpus size, this
strategy is likely to miss more items and has lower recall. In this paper proposes a novel approach
based on the partially supervised alignment model, which regards identifying opinion relations as an
alignment process. Compared to the traditional unsupervised alignment model, the proposed model
obtains better precision because of the usage of partial supervision. Compared to syntax based
methods, our word alignment model effectively alleviates the negative effects of parsing errors
when dealing with informal online texts. The objective is to propose a method based on a
monolingual Word alignment model (WAM). An opinion target can find its corresponding modifier
through word alignment. In addition, the WAM can integrate

Boo s Use Of Language In Annawadi
She uses the description of slum children and their lives throughout the novel to manipulate the
reader s emotions. The authors choice of language and diction supports her main rhetorical
message that the children in Annawadi have been forced to live a life that no child should ever
have to live. Boo s appeal to pathos can be found throughout the novel. The author states that
Abdul had seen a young boy s hand cut clean off when he was putting plastic into one of the
shredders. The boy s eyes had filled with tears but he hadn t screamed. Instead he d stood there
with his blood spurting stump, his ability to earn a living ended, and started apologizing to the
owner of the plant. (Boo. 65) The author gets the reader to visualize and picture

The Importance Of Body Shaming In My Life
When I was younger, my dad would constantly tease my siblings and I. He would say he was
making us thick skinned to prepare us for what some people would say to us when we were older.
He would specifically make fun of us about our weight. As we got older, he stopped teasing my
siblings but continued teasingme. He would constantly tell me I was over weight and should go
to the gym. Eventually, it was so frequent and repetitive that I began to believe every word he
said. I remember believing that I could not have fun with my friends because I would need to be
at the gym to please my dad. I hit a low point in my life in which I genuinely believed I was over
weight and worthless. I began buying baggy clothes and in the summer, I dreaded going to the
beach with friends or family. This belief that I was over weight and worthless began to take over
my life. I remember believing ending my life would be a better solution than having to live in
my own body. It was not until I started dating this guy and surrounded myself with caring and
loving friends that I began to realize my self worth. They constantly reassured me that I was
beautiful and I should not look to other people for approval. I was blessed to have them in my life.
In our country, body shaming is a real problem. I constantly see news reports about girls committing
suicidebecause they are bullied about their weight. I was fortunate enough to be able to meet the
people I met who helped me realize my worth. I do not

Self Defense Training And Traditional Martial Arts Essay
Title
Self Defense Training and Traditional Martial Arts: Influences on Self Efficacy and Fear Related to
Sexual Victimization
Authors
Kimberly Ball, Instructor at Oakland Community College
Jeffrey Martin, Professor at Wayne State University
Hypothesis
The purpose of this study was to examine if traditional martial arts (TMA) and modern self defense
training (MSDT), relative to a stress management comparison program, were equally effective in
altering both multidimensional self efficacy and fear in relation to sexual victimization (Ball and
Martin, 2011, p. 1). Do these type of actions reflect on one s self esteem and stress levels? Do they
also help out during any type of sexual confrontation? These are the rhetorical questions are trying
to be answered in this research experiment.
Method
Many people have experienced a type of sexual assault, whether it is rape or being inappropriately
touched in private places. Most of these people are the women in our society. Many times when
these incidents happen, women look for different ways to protect themselves from the sexual
assaults and eventually look to prevent those incidents from ever happening again. Some women
look for different self defense training programs in their modern day lives and some look to a more
physical protection program, such as martial arts. There hasn t been any recent studies that have
compared the two programs together to see which one is actually effective in those sexual assault
incidents. Bell and

Donald Trump Pros
3 Things Donald Trump s Presidential win taught us
Donald Trump won the US elections to the absolute disbelieve of many. This were people who
refused to pay close attention to facts some of which were discoursed months before the election by
Charisma on Command and Scot Adams.
We ve learned a few things from Trump s win some of which I d share with you.
1). Don t believe anything you see on the media
I was amazed at some of the fake news about Trump I saw circulating various African news
websites and the funny thing is that people believed them without doing research.
Prior to the election, it was evident the mainstream media was pro Hillary. They tried so hard to
protect Hillary while always taking a jab at Trump.
None of them as far as I know gave any indication that Trump won the presidential debates. But if
you watch the debates and are true to yourself, you d agree to this. ... Show more content on

People fight back...
Most major news outlets, public figures and average folks tried to make everyone that supported
Trump seem like a sexists, racists, homophobes, islamophobes, and this was just a terrible decision.
It rather filled the fire behind Trump s supporters, and encouraged more people to secretly vote in
support of Trump (Stockholm Trump Syndrome you may say)
3). Bad publicity is better than no publicity
Trump said this in his book, Art of the Deal , and it has proven to work for him during his
presidential campaign.
Trump has said some foolish things during his campaign. But some of the things he said have been
blown out of propulsion by the mainstream media.
Trump also made very polarising statements that helped to keep him 24 hours on the news, and he
uses each coverage for marketing.
Conclusion
We don t know what the future holds with Trump as the president of the United Statesof America,
but we should all be

My Strengths And Weaknesses
In today s world, people have become more competitive than before. If a person knows their
strengths, they will be aware of their opportunities as they understand where their security and
confidence life. Nonetheless, if a person realizes that their weaknesses and threats are a major
source of insecurity, they wok to focus on such areas to overcome challenges posed by the treats.
Strengths
Quality and useful resources are necessary to my success. My resources are not high in quantity,
but the high quality resources are significant. The most valuable resource that I have is my
experience and education. In any job market, these two resources are valuable. The better and more
resources that a person has, the better their chances of outdriving competition and being successful.
However, a resource might have competition that surrounds them. For instance, education is an
important competitive resource because knowledge is crucial for success. The ability of a person
to advance and apply their knowledge and education in the field of personal success is important. I
believe that my biggest strengths are my ability to adapt quickly to the situation and being very
assertive. I ve also shown a great amount of strengths through relationship building encounters.
However, I need to improve my articulation. I am from Haiti and because English isn t my first
language, I tend to have an accent. I am in no way shape or form ashamed of my accent but in the
business industry it is vital to be able to communicate properly. Nonetheless, these strengths and
weaknesses although I am still working on them are the key to my achievements and success.
Potential Strength
My strength is based on my ability to be creative and innovative and keeping an open mind. These
characteristics ensure that I am more efficient and effective compared to the peers and the general
environment. Improving on innovation allows me to stand out in different environments due to the
knowledge intensity quality that exemplifies my abilities and education. Innovation and creativity
enable me to advance in competition and create an upper hand in the industry.
Faults or Bad Habits
Bad habits or faults are inevitable in the competitive job market. These faults or

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Maid Agencies
Maid agencies and partnering recruitment offices act as intermediaries between employers and
maids. They serve an indispensable role in bringing together two distant parties, namely the affluent
families who need housekeeping help, and the impoverished women who can offer their labor in
exchange for regular income. Problems arise when maidagencies fail to provide this crucial link in a
satisfactory manner.
Why hire a maid from maid agencies?
Having someone to help you in house cleaning is an efficient way to manage your time,
especially if you have a day job. Whether you are busy with family affairs or career, you want
someone to assist you. Here are some of the things that you should consider to know if a maid

Bonded and insured:
A standalone maid will not ordinarily be bonded and insured and, therefore, in the event of any loss
that occurs either on account of negligence or theft, the homeowner will have no recourse for
compensation.
When dealing with a service providing agency, you should ensure that the agency is bonded against
loss caused by its employees and the employees themselves are insured against accidents on the
work site.
Employee Screening:
Check with the service provider about how rigorous their reference checks are with regard to
establishing identity, proof of residence (temporary and permanent), criminal background, and
family reputation of its workforce.
Ascertain whether the team deputed by the agency is on its payroll or the work is being

Healthcare in the United States Vs. Great Britain Tyra Baruti Kaplan University
The healthcare system in the United States and Britain are different and many in ways. The
purpose of the healthcare system should be to satisfy the needs and preferences of the individual

In Great Britain even though they have a choice to private insurance majority of use of the
universal healthcare system which is more affordable. Many Britons take advantage of private
insurers in order to get better quality care and for reduce waiting times. Another difference in the
two healthcare systems is that in Great Britain there are no deductibles and close to no copayments
except for small co payment associated with prescription drugs.
The similarities of the two healthcare systems are that both countries have an organized healthcare
system although they are organized in a differently. All citizens in each country are treated by
physicians in an attempt to heal and treat the sick. Also both healthcare systems use preventive
medicine as a way to improve the overall health of all citizens. Another similarity amongst the two
is that there are many citizens in each country that share the same opinion on the quality of the
care that is provided. According to a study it shows that the views of Americans on the quality of
medical care in their country are not overly different from those in Great Britain 48% of
Americans, 52% of Canadians, and 42% of Britons say they are satisfied. (Blizzard, 2003)

was the best choice. After the reading my opinion about both systems gradually changed. The

Since 2001, after the first successful use of In vitro fertilization (IVF) and Preimplantation

Siblings had been a subject of ethical debates. PGD uses in vitro fertilization (IVF) to permit

alliances such as the Triple Alliance that had threatened France. There were also a lot more causes
that also contributed to World War 1, but amongst them all, the one that was probably the most
important was the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand. The reason as to why it was and is
the most important cause to World War Iwas how much of a propulsion it had on the European
countries to cause World War I in the first place. To start off, the assassination of the Archduke was
by a member of a group called The Black Hand who were Serbian nationalists. During that time
Russia had supported these Serbian Nationalists, and Austria Hungary deeply hated them. This
assassination thus causes an ultimatum from Austria Hungary to Serbia (which then gets rejected),
to which Austria Hungary responded back with a declaration of war against Serbia. Russia then
tells Serbia that they ll protect Serbia (since they support them) and Germany states that they ll
back Austria Hungary if Russia were to intervene, which they do. Now since the Italy (later

Teenage Wasteland Anne Tyler s Teenage Wasteland is a very good story describing a boy and

Searching for Sugar Man, a 2012 documentary directed by Malik Bendjelloul, contains many
documentary type aesthetics. The film tells the tale of an American musician named Sixto

many on camera interviews in order to get that documentary type feel. The film shows interviews
from a construction worker, to all of Rodriquez s daughters. Along with these interviews are also

The Consequences Of Video Game Violence In Video Games
Violence in video games is well known for toeing the line between entertainment and immorality.
The controversy began as early as 1976, when protestors destroyed an arcade game that revolved
around hitting human like creatures with a car. As computers grew more advanced in the next two
decades, video game violencebecame increasingly realistic ( Background of the Issue ). This
prompted the creation of the Entertainment Software Rating Board, commonly abbreviated
ESRB, in 1994 for parents to make informed decisions regarding the content their children were
exposed to. The 1999 shooting at Columbine High School fueled the debate further, drawing
potential connections between virtual violence and real world consequences ( Background of
the Issue ). In the years following, laws regarding the sale of video games with graphic violence
sprouted up across the nation. Even the Supreme Court was involved ( Background of the Issue ).
Today, as many as 97% of US kids age 12 17 play video games, contributing to the $21.53 billion
domestic video gameindustry ( Violent Video Games ). Critics of video game violence argue that
it directly increases a person s violent behavior and lowers their tendency to act for the benefit
of others. Defenders of video game violence argue that media coverage of video game violence
is heavily biased, studies that link it to acts of violence are flawed, and that video game violence
is a harmless outlet for emotions of aggression. Critics of violence in video games believe that it
increases an adolescent s tendency toward violent actions. Multiple credible organizations also
view playing violent video games as a statistical detail affecting a person s aggressive tendency.
Over 98% of American pediatricians say that children and teens become more aggressive when
exposed to violent media such as a violent video game ( Violent Video Games ). The FBI uses an
individual s violent video game history to assess the risk of a school shooting threat. The
American Psychological Association cites frequent violent video game exposure as a risk factor
that contributes to violence in teens ( Violent Video Games ). Some groups that are against video
game violence go as far as to list it as a primary cause

Summary Of Ten Questions By Joel M. Charon
The study of sociology is the study of a society and how people behave in these societies.
According to Joel M. Charon in his book Ten Questions, he states that Sociology is an academic
discipline, an attempt to seek knowledge and understanding through painstaking and critical
investigation (Charon 3). In other words, it is an attempt to become knowledgeable about of
different societies and people in those societies work together. When studying sociology, a person is
trying to understand human society and how humans act and react to certain situations presented to
them in their society. It also seeks to understand how much a person will interact with their society.
When Charon first discusses society he says, Society is not simply a bunch of individuals; it
constitutes a larger whole, a reality that it is more than the sum of the individuals who make it
up (Charon 5). This means that society does not mean lots of people in the same place, it is
people living together as a community, having relationships with each other and having a similar
or the same culture. A culture can be defined as a way of life for a group of people within their

Metamorphosis By Franz Kafka Change Essay
Change is something that can t be avoided. It is a basic quality of life and in the book The
Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka change is essential. This theme is a crucial part of this story. It is
one that influences the plot and the behavior of the characters in the story.
The first change we see, the one that I think is obviously the most important because it is the
reason all the other events in the story happen, is when Gregor goes from being a human to being
a gigantic bug. After this all of his thoughts and feelings began to change too. The awareness he
has over becoming this bug evokes him. Everything that was once familiar to him, all of the
objects that are on his room when he wakes up, become altered and unfamiliar in his bug like state.
After waking up, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
All of Gregor s family has different experiences when he chances into a bug. Because of the
change he is unable to work. This puts a burden on his family, they all end up having to find jobs.
His mother finds a job sewing lingerie for a clothing store. His sister finds a job as a salesperson,
she also begins to learn French in order to be able to move into a higher position. And his father
finds a job as a messenger. The family also had to decide on renting out rooms of their house to
add to the income. He overhears a family discussion revolving around a financial issue they had
I countered which leaves him feeling guilty. Because Gregor has now turned into a bug, the
family loses the harmony that most families have. The family members now stay away from him.
They stop interacting with each him, not even looking at him in some cases. They also don t
want to be alone with him, making sure that at least two other people are with him. Any maid that
they had or hired begged for them to be dismissed (33). Grete, Gregoer s sister then begins to do
everything for Gregor. She cleaned his room and would give him his

Toyota Culture
Human Resource Development in Toyota Culture
The article first appeared in the International Journal of Human Resource Development
Management. It addresses the role of HR in a lean enterprise, explores a major crisis of trust at
Toyota s plant in Georgetown, Ky., and how it responded by reorganizing the HR function.
By Jeffrey K. Liker and Michael Hoseus
Introduction
From the founding of Toyoda Loom Works in the 1920s to the creation of Toyota Motor Co. in the
1940s, its leaders believed that the key to success was investment in its people (Liker, 2004).
The Toyota culture has evolved since the company s founding and is the core competence of the
company. It is the reason why operations are lean, cars hit the market on time ... Show more content

This example reveals that Toyota is far from perfect and experiences serious problems and gives
insights into how Toyota responds to problems by getting to the root cause. The paper concludes
with a discussion of some of the cultural issues that affect the ability to create a Toyota like HR
system in America.
What is the Role of HR in a Lean Enterprise?
The concept of lean production was first introduced in The Machine that Changed the World
(Womack et al., 1991) to refer to a new way of looking at the manufacturing enterprise. It was
distinguished from mass production by its single minded focus on eliminating waste in all aspects
of the enterprise.
An enterprise exists to add value to customers through a series of activities that transform inputs
into outputs and anything other than the minimum needed to perform that value added function is
waste.
Toyota was the original model for lean and the concept of just in time epitomized the focus on
waste elimination only make exactly what is needed, in the amount needed, when it is needed.
In fact the just in time principle is one aspect of a broader philosophy represented by the Toyota
production system. In TPS, the just in time concept is one pillar and the other is to build in quality
at every step of the process, not allowing defects to propagate through the value stream. The

Stephanie Garrison Research Paper
Stephanie Garrison
It was a privilege to listen to Stephanie Garrison share her story and provide encouragement for

London Is The Most Eclectic Megalopolis Of The West
Unusually, I was a late subscriber to the idea of observing deeply into the capital s wonders;
London is possibly the most eclectic megalopolis of the West, it stirs ambition like no other
place, in some professional sectors it s like swimming against the tide if you re not registered in
London. Realistically for me, it probably was six years ago, when I took note of what London
urbanity offers, before then, I was probably too busy, fatigued and self orientated to allow London
a laborious thought in the early noughties; I recall, it took a nudge from famous authors who
resided in the capital, such as Iain Sinclair, J.G. Ballard and Hanif Kureishi, to name a few, who
systematically embraced the capitalwithin their creative works. Their savoir faire wordage spurred
me on to experience London with fresh eyes; I owe much to their observations, they introduced me
to London s identities just enough, so you can muster your own observations and prose. The
process was like peering through a keyhole at collective humanism entirely unique to the voyeur.
For London truly is a collaboration of creativity and creed, to state the City has one identity stroke
congruence is veraciously wrong. London is that versatile, it has a plethora of characteristics, rich
in detail, purpose and belonging; why everyone has an opinion whatever the experience, London
demands respect. Author: Craig Taylortakes this analogy a step further and in the book: Londoners;

Family Values Shape The Way People Are Today
Family values shape the way people are today. The meaning of family could vary depending on
our background, whether blood related, marriage, or just emotionally attached, it s used out of a
form of love. Values are the things we strongly believe in. Forms of values could be culture, race,
or ethnicity. Almost everyone lives up to the saying family first. Putting our family first could
mean putting things to the side for a family night, cooking for your family, or taking family trips.
Others could be finding the right care or making sure our family is financially stabled. However,
in our society today we lack some of these values.

Ethics And Infinity By Emmanuel Levinas
Ethics and Infinity by Emmanuel Levinas
The works of Emmanuel Levinas are considered to be hugely influential within the philosophical
disciplines of twentieth century ethics and existentialism, but unfortunately the convolution and
misrepresentation of his thinking often results in miscomprehension of his ideas. Totality and
Infinity: A Book on Exteriority is one of Levinas earlier works (published in 1961 in French and
1969 in English) that has garnered much attention and praise from writers across a multitude of
disciplines (not just philosophy) for the fact that it deals with the widely applicable subject of
relations toward and perception of the Other from the perspective of the self. Throughout the book,
the author demonstrates the manner in which subjectivity begins from the idea of perpetuity, and
how the infinite is an outcome of the correlation of self and Other. The main purpose of Levinas
work is to find out the dominance of the Other based on the epiphany of the face. According to his
work, infinite is the beginning or foundation of ethics and, he also declines any ethical
intellectualism. Levinas acknowledges the idea that not every human being is inherently ethical per
se but he or she is an aspiration of Others. Therefore, the remaining part of this paper will focus on
sexuality, which is one of the themes that the writer encountered Sexual encounter Sex is a

Learning Style And Characteristics Of English As A English...
Introduction
Whether one wants to travel, find a job, or find entertainment, the English language will most
likely be somewhat involved. This comes as no surprise since English has been referred to as the
unofficial language of globalization (CorrГЄa De Almeida). Globalization is attractive to many
because, it is the interaction and integration among the people, companies, and governments of
different nations (Globalization 101, 2016). With this in mind many seek to learn English to gain
better job opportunities or to simply have access to worldly entertainment. English as second
language (ESL) education techniques now become the center of attention in order to satisfy the
demand for effective English learning as a foreign language. ESL education techniques must take
into consideration student s learning style, background, and weaknesses to provide an effective
learning environment.

I Love Songs Analysis
Three Songs There are three songs that I believe go along with We Were Liars by E. Lockhart.
One song is All My Loving by The Beatles, because for all the love that were hallucinations that
Cadence had during the story for Gat. A second song that I think goes with the story is Medicine
by The 1975, because once Cadence learned the truth of the accident, all her migraines, aches,
and hallucinations disappeared. The last song I think corresponds with the story is The Beach
from The Neighbourhood, because i think it describes how Cadence feels towards the end of
the story. I think the song All My Loving by The Beatles goes with the story with the
hallucinations that she has of Gat. The first line of the song is Close your eyes and I ll kiss you
Tomorrow I ll miss you Remember I ll always be true which I believe matches with the feeling that
Cadence gets in the end of the story. She loved Gat and now he s gone, but she ll continues... Show

when Cadence starts to remember parts of the accident, but not the whole thing. Throughout the
song the singer has a feeling that he s hoping that he doesn t hurt his loved one and I think I can

The And Collective Memory Of The First World War
Contemporary Canadian reimagining of the First World war is from the book Catching the
torch by a Brock University teacher Neta Gordon. She wrote this book in 2014. She tries to
explain to the reader the conflict between history and collective memory of the First World War.
With many other essays, she focuses on the role of the Canadian army in the First World war. As
we know, the Canadian army entered the war in early 1915 to offer help to the Britain soldiers
fighting against the Germans. The Canadian army was basically forced to join because they were a
member of the British Empire.
On the one hand, Gordon quotes from Jonathan Vance s Death So Noble: Memory, meaning and
the First world war: the dominant or collective memory of a ... Show more content on

Most of the work that Gordon studied and with the publication date from this book, we can also
say that collective memory is not a whole. Most of the soldiers are dead at this time and she had
to rely on works that were published years later after the First War. Gordon quoted Winter in the
first few chapters of her book, he stated: This sense of the socially constructed nature of
collective memory is vital to historical study, since it precludes talking about memory as if it
exists independently of the people who share it (2). From what I understand from the few pages
that we had to read and with my research done with the whole book, the collective memory is
based on the present memory, but since the soldiers they rely on are no longer in a group or in the
same place, it is mostly a memory from one person.
Another thing she said that made me realize how true her statement was with the novel that we
studied during this term. She stated that: many of the narratives this volume examines rehabilitate
the figure of the father and/or conception of productive masculinity; many follow in the tradition
of early twentieth century home front novels by women to consider the value of female work, in
wartime and beyond [...] and most conclude with a look to the future (which is now the present)
and a sense of promise that is decidedly free from irony. (21 22)

History Of The Kent House Plantation
Scattered along many of Louisiana s rivers and bayous are majestic, historical homes built during a
time of Southern prosperity. In the South, these homes and surrounding property often called
plantations, were the product of middle to upper class slave owning planters. Central Louisiana is
home to a plantationthat is the oldest standing structure in this area. During a recent visit to Kent
House Plantation, I learned of the history, operations, and current events that help to keep the past
alive. The Kent House sits on only four acres of the original seventeen hundred and forty acres
given to Pierre Baillio II in a 1794 Spanish land grant. In 1795 Baillio, a middle class, slave
owning, cotton planter, envisioned and began... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In 1863, the Union Army made its way into Alexandria. There are several theories on why the army
did not destroy Kent House.
There s a couple of theories, but we don t exactly know why the house was spared. One theory is
that (the Hynsons) were Masons and so was (Union Gen.) Ulysses S. Grant. Another possible
reason why the Kent House was spared is that the Hynsons refused to leave the house. [Although]
I don t think that s true because they would have set fire to the house anyway, and that would
have caused the family to leave. There are two more plausible theories, however, one of which
states that the Kent House was being used as a base of operations for the Union army. Possibly the
most believable reason why the Kent House was not burned is that the son of the plantation s
original owner, Pierre Baillio II, was on the board of directors at the institution that would become
LSU at the same time that future Union Gen. William Tecumseh Shermanwas the school s
superintendent. It s said that Sherman and Baillio were good friends, and it s possible that Sherman
gave the order not to touch the Kent House, even though Baillio didn t own it at that time.
However, in 1908, a part of the Kent House was destroyed when a hurricane swept through
Alexandria. Because of the damage, Hynson descendant, Sallie Hynson Ringold had to sell the
home. The Kent House exchanged many hands

According to the Just War theory, just war is separated into two domains. First is the motivation
behind entering war, and second is the means used during warfare (Hu, 2). The first judgment
signifies justice of war, or jus ad bellum that evaluates the terms of a just versus unjust war. The
second signifies justice in war, or jus in bello, which essentially measures whether or not the ends
justify the means. The relationship between jus ad bellum and jus in bello are independent of each

Tartuffe, a Comedy by Molier
Tartuffe is one of the most famous comedies written by the French playwright MoliГЁre. The
play tells the story of a wealthy Frenchman named Orgon who takes in Tartuffe, a man who
presents himself to be religious and passionate but actually turns out to be a hypocrite. Despite his
family s warnings, Orgon completely turns his back on his family in order to protect Tartuffe, who
betrays him. During that time the play was first written and performed, many people, along with
King Louis XIV himself, enjoyed the play. However, to others it was seen as being critical of
religion and the church, which then lead to it being banned. In a political sense, Tartuffe serves as
both an endorsement and critique of the ideas of absolutism, divine right,... Show more content on

In those times, religion was hard to separate from politics and other aspects. Tartuffe was able to
fool people by claiming to be a devout man of God. If this were to happen with the King s advisors,
it could cause corruption throughout many parts of the kingdom. MoliГЁre does believe that the
King should seek advice from others, but he warns that he should listen to many opinions and think
carefully before making a final decision.
The divine right theory claims that the monarchs are specially selected by God to rule the
kingdom. Consequently, the King is responsible for his own actions and decisions. However,
God is the only one who can make judgments. So even if the King rules unfairly, that does not
permit the citizens to rebel against his rule. Rather, it is up to God to handle it. In Tartuffe,
MoliГЁre seems to praise the King for his fairness and mercy by pardoning Orgon in the end.
Due to his previous loyalty to the throne, he returned Orgon s property to him and forgave him for
hiding the papers. The wise King also saw through Tartuffe s deception and hypocrisy and had him
arrested. These events in the story definitely show MoliГЁre s support for King Louis XIV, as he
knew that abolitionism and divine right were honest intentions to rule the kingdom fairly.
Also during this time period, an emphasis was placed on patriarchal family. God has ultimate
authority over all, as He is the true

The Doctor In The Canterbury Tales
Among the pilgrims in Geoffrey Chaucer s The Canterbury Tales we find a Doctour of Physik
(line 413). This doctor is the twenty first character mentioned in the General Prologue. He comes
after a pirate and before a woman of dubious conduct, thereby making his good qualities appear
considerably more honorable than they would if he, for instance, followed the knight or parson.
The narrator speaks highly of the doctor s scientific abilities and learned knowledge while also
emphasizing his aptitude at his trade. There are, in addition, references to the doctor s religious
competence, or lack thereof. By emphasizing the doctor s strengths and showing where his
weaknesses lay, Chaucer uses him as the knight s equal on an opposite pole.... Show more content

we view the knight s cause, fighting for his Lord in Christianity, which contrasts with the doctor s
cause, healing the human form. We also learn that the knight values thinks any honorable person
would find worthy: truth, honor, freedom, and courtesy. This isn t to say that the doctor does not
have these qualities at all, but his introduction is oriented less around chivalry and more around
practicality. Thus, using a total of sixteen lines, Chaucer has placed both characters loyalties and
motivations. The knight s are with God, on the spiritual side of the pole, and the doctor s are with
the body, on the physical side.
The benefits and faults of the doctor s position are opposite the knight s as well. While the knight is
quite healthy spiritually, his physical health has been damaged by the many years of campaigning.

Hernan Cortes Analysis
Hernan Cortes s first encounter narrative, besides justifying his illegal trip to Mexico, displays
the cultural and spiritual roles colonization played when he conquered the Aztecs. Cortes
displays a very eurocentric outlook, for they had left their native land so long ago and as I had
only recently arrived from there, I would better know the things they should believe (Cortes 58),
the native land (Cortes 58) Cartes refers to is Europe. With this idea that Europe being the
nucleus of the world signifies that Cortes has a cultural and religious duty to return these long
lost Europeans back to the fold. Cortes having painted his view of the world creates a sense of
belonging for him and all of Spain, in that since all life orginates in Europe all life and prosperity
in the world is simply waiting to be plundered. He goes about this plundering by using
Christianity as a moral justification for the colonization of the native population. He begins by
destroying idols (Cortes 58) and setting up images , presumably of Christ, God, or The Virgin
Mary, as they are superior to that of the natives and simply is what they should believe (Cortes
58) . This narrative of cultural and spiritual superiority is echoed in John Heckewelder s retelling
of the Lenni Lenape (Heckewelder 68) colonization myth wherein a group of Dutch missionaries
visit the new world and are revered as God s. Before they depart they distribute gifts among the
natives of beads, axes, hoes, and stockings only to return on their second voyage to see the
natives wearing them as ornaments (Heckewelder 70) wherein the whites laughed . Now
Heckewelder s purpose in relaying this oral tradition is very similar to Cortes s it s to display the
cultural and spiritual superiority of the Christian in helping the natives for they are too stupid to
help themselves. Where they differ is that in the Lenni Lenape (Heckewelder 68) tradition this
colonization myth ,for me, serves as a warning to the tribe. For while Heckewelder s original
intention was most likely to display European superiority whether advertently or inadvertently it s
original intention was to serve as a warning where if the Lenni Lenape (Heckewelder 68) continued

Pantheon of Rome and the Parthenon of Athens
Pantheon of Rome and the Parthenon of Athens
Introduction
Since the times of ancient Rome, there has been work of art including architecture. The invention
of architectural objects boosted the construction industry and among the results of architecture was
building of temples. Since the ancient people like the romans had beliefs in gods, they constructed
temples, places of worship. Among them were the Pantheon of Rome and the Parthenon of Athens.
Style of Pantheon of Rome and culture
The temple has a coffered concrete dome of which the romans believed that the temple was
dedicated to planetary deities. The pantheon had an Orb which was a simple of the universe and
this showed the supremacy of the emperor over the world. Additionally, there were also has seven
niches for the altars and statues. At that time there were seven well known planets. Also on the
dome, it is seen a central ring of the Oculus which is surrounded by 5 rings of coffers. These can be
related to the heliocentric view of the cosmos having the sun in the center and Jupiter, Mars, Saturn,
Venus and Moon around it.
Function of the Pantheon of Rome
Used for worshipping gods of ancient Rome. It is of great importance to note that the romans were
keen on astrology. Among the purposes of the Pantheon was that it was a temple cum planetarium
made to bring down the heavens to the earth and to then trap their perfection within the building
and cast a heavenly blessing on the Emperor s earthly power.

Creating An Information Management System
Management Summary Summary of requirements Club IT recognizes the pitfalls of their
antiquated system. Creating an information management system will advance their business
protocols and provide a cohesiveness between inventory control, wait staff monitoring, and data
security. Adding an additional focus on WiFi availability is an advantage to Club IT and their
customers. Inventory control is a primary concern to prevent overstock and out of stock dilemmas.
Overstocking products effects the budget negatively. Out of stock products essentially effects
revenue negatively and hinders customer satisfactions. A business intelligence model that
encompasses database functionality and a point of sale (POS) system features would remedy
many of the inventory control downfalls. The automation provided by an information
management system would allow ?critical? products to be automatically ordered when a
designated remaining stock percentage is reached. For non critical products, a notification would
be sent to the owners to determine if the product should be ordered now or at a later date. Sale
figure reports from the POS system would provide valuable information on sale quotas for all
products. Critical product ordering will be fully automated with confirmation supplied to owners
after product is ordered from vendor. Non critical products simply need the owner?s approval for
the automation process to complete the order. A POS system, combined with an accounting and

African Americans and The Reconstruction Period
The Reconstruction Period I think is a problem for the African Americans back then. They were
treated unfairly during this period, when it was to being them a new started and hope of change.
Don t get me wrong there were some people who were for them to e happy, but not many. So, let
start at the being; where it all happened. In January of 1865, Union General William T. Sherman
issued a special field order Number 15, which temporary granted each freed family 40 acres of
land off the region of Georgia in the islands and coastal area. Also the Union Army donated
mules to them after the war was over. In the summer of 1865 when President Andrew Johnson
was in office, his first act of Reconstruction was to give back all the federal control land back to
its previous owner. When the land was giving back to the owners, freed men and women could
sign a labor contracts with the planters or they could leave the land they occupied this was called
Freedman s Bureau. Soon after when the land was giving back, the former Confederate state stated
Black Codes . Black Codes would deny African Americans to legal have equality and political
rights. Also it would require then to sign yearly labor contracts with the planters. When this happen,
Congress made the Reconstruction Act in the 1867, when the 14th (June 13, 1866) and the 15th
(February 26, 1869, ratified on February 3, 1870) Amendments. These two amendments granted
African Americans the right to vote, and equality before the law and

How Does Power Control In Macbeth
It is the human instinct that the more power one wants the more degenerate activities one must do
to accomplish it. In Shakespeare s disaster of Macbeth, a warrior whose respectable desire for
control drives him to do shocking deeds that prompt his end. Shakespeare demonstrates that power
taints by utilizing Macbethwho undermines under the prospect of having control over others.
Macbethwinds up degenerate under the prospect of getting to be the best and picking up relatively
entire control over the general population that he runs the show. Macbeth needs the power seriously
enough to do loathsome deeds, for example, submit regicide.
Who is responsible for Duncan s death? Someone filled with anger, greed, or jealousy. Both,
Macbeth and Lady Macbeth was responsible for the death of Duncan because they both agreed on
killing King Duncan and proceeded into the act. Duncan s killer was filled with rage and guilt.

Joseph Von Faunhofer Research Paper
Joseph von Fraunhofer was a German optician and physicist who discovered and influenced how
astronomers view the dark line spectrum, the spectrum of the sun and the diffraction of light.
On March 6, 1787 in Straubing, Bavaria, Joseph Ritter von Fraunhofer was born into a poor
family where his father Franz Xaver Fraunhofer was a watch glass maker. At the age of 10,
Joseph s mother, Maria Anna Frohlich passed away, and only a year after his father died. This
left Fraunhofer orphaned and forced him to start working as an apprentice for a harsh lens maker
named Philipp Anton Weichelsberger. This was appropriate because since the age of 10 Joseph
was already working in his familys workshop. Weichelsberger used Fraunhofer primarily as slave
labor, often driving him to near starvation and exhaustion. However, on July 21, 1801, the
workshop in which Fraunhofer was working in collapsed. Although it seemed like a tragic incident
at the time, in hindsight this changed Joseph von Fraunhofer s life for the better, and therefore
changed the course of astronomy. This collapse caused a rescue... Show more content on

He had been using a very thin slit to separate the light into its component colors, but discovered
that a wire mesh could be assembled in which the holes would act as hundreds of very thin slits.
This was effective because the wire mesh would split, then re split the passing light. Thus, in 1821
he constructed a diffracting grating involving 260 wires that would produce a widely dispersed
spectrum. Although revolutionary, it took forty years before advances were made on his work due
to the fact that extensive time and expensive equipment were needed to duplicate his work. With
his invention of the diffraction grating, he transformed spectroscopy from a qualitative art to a
quantitative science by demonstrating how to accurately measure the wavelength of light

Food Truck Research Paper
Food Truck Expanitory The choices about most of my food truck decision were of two sorts,
the ones made as they came and the ones who were planned much in advance. The large part of
the food truck assignment, the truck itself, was one of the few drawn out parts of the project.
For a while I thought of a few ideas, the first of which was the name, Seaside Rainmaker. The two
main parts of my project really revolved around the lack of water in the world, and the
technological solutions provided to solve them, the real main focus of which was desalination.
Seaside, really made sense because it is both related to water and sounds like a generally positive
place to be, even if my project really was not tackling positive issues. Rainmaker, felt appropriate
because I really wanted to know about the ways to produce water. Together they come off naturally
like a regular business name. Other names choices included, That Dry Spot, The Water Hole, and
the Oasis. Moving away from just the name, the construction and... Show more content on

I think the first was obvious, and having a humorous item on the menu was refreshing. The
Ocean Breeze certainly had the markings of the salt water that was mentioned thoroughly
through both my blog and research paper, and although technically not a food per say, it is
drinkable. Aquifer Lemon Tea just made sense, again linking the menu to a liquid, like water,
and having something I researched in the name. Osmosis Latte , another drink, related to
desalination because it is one of main processes that desalination really uses, reverse osmosis. It
being a latte, and a latte normally being very expensive, much like the plants themselves
connected in a positive way. The Sponge Cake became a play on words for real sponges, which
relates loosely and fits in with the rest of the types of drinks as a dessert to drink with. Finally my

The Ideal Method For Feeding Babies
Proven as the ideal method for feeding babies, nationwide 76% of new moms choose to breastfeed
and forgo formula feeding, but by three months post partum that percentage has dropped drastically
(Centers for Disease Control and Prevention s (CDC) Division of Nutrition, Physical Activity, and
Obesity 4). While breastfeedingis proven to reduce the risk of diarrhea, pneumonia, obesity, type II
diabetes, and improve results on intelligence tests (World Health Organization) many new moms
abandon their goals of feeding babies for the recommended 2 years (World Health Organization)
because of the discrimination received while nursing in public. Being viewed as a life choice, not a
health choice, the general public ostracizes and alienates these women, arguing that modesty is
more important than a baby s right to eat. In 2012, a study performed by Lansinoh Breastfeeding
found that while 79% of moms know that breastfeeding is the best choice for a healthy baby
(Lansinoh Laboratories Inc., fig. 1), an unbelievable 40% say their biggest fear pertaining to
breastfeeding is nursing in public (Lansinoh Laboratories Inc.). Pleading that nursing a baby is
natural, multitudes of comments counter that argument, saying defecation, urination, and even
sexual intercourse is natural as well, but they aren t doing it in public. These types of comments are
disadvantageous to breastfeeding success rates and are regulating women to restrooms, changing
rooms, hot vehicles, and even homes, in

The Importance Of Insect Population In Germany
Current Event: Week Eight According to an Off The Grid news site, the insect population in
Germany has decreased significantly in the last few decades. Nearly seventy five percent of the
insects in the nature reserves have been wiped out, leaving only twenty five percent left. Due to
this significant decrease, it is expected for the food web to be widely affected since many other
animals rely on these insects as a source of food. One of the insects that are dying out is the
honeybee, which can affect humans since these bees are needed to pollinate crops. Honeybees are a
major pollinator of our food crops such as almonds, apples, cantaloupes, cranberries, cherries,
sunflowers, cucumbers, watermelon and much more. They contribute to our... Show more content

According to Ramstad, Alegra was put into detention because of a threat made to another
student, which was a complete misunderstanding. Alegra was simply sticking up for herself after
being bullied by the same student for the past year (9 News). As a result of the incident, the
parents decided to hire an attorney named Igor Raykin and may file a lawsuit against the school
for the traumatization of their daughter. Soon after the Douglas County School District General
Counsel provided a statement to the community mentioning that the safety and well being of the
students are a top priority. They also discussed how the detention room allows freedom for
students to work on their homework and leave the room when needed. However, this freedom
was not demonstrated when Ramstad arrived at the school to see her daughter in one of the
rooms. The incident sparks controversy of the school s treatment of children and brings up the
question of how many other children were put into this cell and if these children s parents were
aware of this occurrence. If so, a lawsuit should be filed against the school against those parents
as well. It is sad to see the actions this elementary school decided to take in order to fix these
children s behavioral issues or in this case a misunderstood situation. Hopefully, this news story will
help the school realize their idea of detention is inhumane and degrading.

Joao Coutinho,“There Is No Neutral Education. Education
Joao Coutinho, There is no neutral education. Education is either for domestication or for freedom.
Therefore I question one to think about the category in which the american school system falls into,
are we creating freedom thinkers or robots of government or are our students trap inside this
conventional compulsory schooling? Schoolis suppose to be a place where students are to be
motivated and taught that all the things in which they dream will become reality. However as time
has progressed teachers have been forced to teach certain content and in particular ways, while
students are required to learn through the styles implemented by their teacher. What many may not

As Maslow hierarchy of needs state, a person can not reach their fullest potential unless they first
meet their basic needs. How will this affect their passion to teach? According to a report released by
the Department of Education there has become a more urgent need for teachers as the teacher
shortage increases. Educators are beginning to lose their passion for their profession. What
example does this set for the children as it relates to education? If they would for one second
answer these few questions before making such an immense decision they would stop taking
money away from education. Answer this question; if there were more educators and
administrators in these government positions, the secretary of education, would it be so easy to
implement cuts within education? There are people like president Trump s new elect Betsy
Devos who has never been in a classroom or has never held a position within a school. This
becomes problematic because she now holds one of the most powerful positions within education:
The United States Secretary of Education. As the head of the US Department of Education, the
secretary advises and executes legislation over education policy at both the K 12 and
postsecondary levels. In an interview she participated in with a CNN host she was perceived to be
unknowledgeable about laws like, Individuals with Disability Act (IDEA), which

  • 2. The Importance Of Internet Censorship In China We have all been on our usual search engine and clicked on the random news articles. Whether it be Kim Kardashian s holiday or the controversy between Donald Trump and the Russian president. We are free to roam the internet here in Australia without the thought of someone stalking our searches. However, some countries strictly limit the information the public is exposed to. Specifically, China s internetrelies on censoring content to protect the public from cybercrimes and preventing the leakage of information about the country. But is censorshipin China implemented to do harm to its society, or purely to protect it? What is the extent of China s internet censorshipthat is actually necessary for societal protection? What is censorship in China? Censorship is a way to control the information the public in China is able to see. Web chats, search engines and social media platforms are the main aspects censored on the Chinese internet. Controversial and belittling content are sought out by human and technical censors to be removed. The Great Firewall is the main technical way the Chinese government is able to censor various aspects of the internet and was initiated by China s Ministry of Public Security. Social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter and YouTube are censored as one can search up, for example, how to overthrow the government, as stated by Jason Q. Ing, a researcher who delves deep into the Chinese internet to understand the mysteries behind censorship . A ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Problem Of Clapham Omnibus The Reasonable Man : It has been held by the courts that the test of reasonableness is that of the ordinary man or also called as the reasonable man . In Bolam case, it was discussed that: In an ordinary case it is generally said you judge it by the action of the man in the street. He is the ordinary man. In one case it has been said you judge it by the conduct of the man on the top of a Clapham omnibus. He is the ordinary man. Why the mention of Clapham omnibus ? The Bolam judgment was pronounced in 1957 and Clapham, at that time, was a nondescript south London suburb. It represented ordinary London. Omnibus was used at that time for the public bus. Thus, the man on the top of a Clapham omnibus was a hypothetical person, who was reasonably educated and intelligent but was a non specialist. The courts used to judge the conduct of any defendant by comparing it with that of the hypothetical ordinary man . • 4. Monolingual Word Alignment Model For Retrieving MONOLINGUAL WORD ALIGNMENT MODEL FOR RETRIEVING OPINION WORDS AND OPINION TARGETS IN AN SIMPLE WAY R.Vikram, Asst. Professor in CSE, GNITC, Hyderabad, A.P., India, captureratan@gmail.com K.Vikram, Asst. Professor in CSE, GNITC, Hyderabad, A.P., India, vikramkalvala84@gmail.com Patil ManikRao, Asst. Professor in CSE, GNITC, Hyderabad, A.P., India, manikvpatil@gmail.com Abstract: In a global economy, mining the opinion relations between opinion targets and opinion words was the key to collective extraction. To this end, the most adopted techniques have been nearest neighbor rules and syntactic patterns. To improve the performance of these methods, we can specially design exquisite, high precision patterns. However, with an increase in corpus size, this strategy is likely to miss more items and has lower recall. In this paper proposes a novel approach based on the partially supervised alignment model, which regards identifying opinion relations as an alignment process. Compared to the traditional unsupervised alignment model, the proposed model obtains better precision because of the usage of partial supervision. Compared to syntax based methods, our word alignment model effectively alleviates the negative effects of parsing errors when dealing with informal online texts. The objective is to propose a method based on a monolingual Word alignment model (WAM). An opinion target can find its corresponding modifier through word alignment. In addition, the WAM can integrate ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. Boo s Use Of Language In Annawadi She uses the description of slum children and their lives throughout the novel to manipulate the reader s emotions. The authors choice of language and diction supports her main rhetorical message that the children in Annawadi have been forced to live a life that no child should ever have to live. Boo s appeal to pathos can be found throughout the novel. The author states that Abdul had seen a young boy s hand cut clean off when he was putting plastic into one of the shredders. The boy s eyes had filled with tears but he hadn t screamed. Instead he d stood there with his blood spurting stump, his ability to earn a living ended, and started apologizing to the owner of the plant. • 7. The Importance Of Body Shaming In My Life When I was younger, my dad would constantly tease my siblings and I. He would say he was making us thick skinned to prepare us for what some people would say to us when we were older. He would specifically make fun of us about our weight. As we got older, he stopped teasing my siblings but continued teasingme. He would constantly tell me I was over weight and should go to the gym. Eventually, it was so frequent and repetitive that I began to believe every word he said. I remember believing that I could not have fun with my friends because I would need to be at the gym to please my dad. I hit a low point in my life in which I genuinely believed I was over weight and worthless. I began buying baggy clothes and in the summer, I dreaded going to the beach with friends or family. This belief that I was over weight and worthless began to take over my life. I remember believing ending my life would be a better solution than having to live in my own body. It was not until I started dating this guy and surrounded myself with caring and loving friends that I began to realize my self worth. They constantly reassured me that I was beautiful and I should not look to other people for approval. I was blessed to have them in my life. In our country, body shaming is a real problem. I constantly see news reports about girls committing suicidebecause they are bullied about their weight. I was fortunate enough to be able to meet the people I met who helped me realize my worth. Self Defense Training And Traditional Martial Arts Essay Title Self Defense Training and Traditional Martial Arts: Influences on Self Efficacy and Fear Related to Sexual Victimization Authors Kimberly Ball, Instructor at Oakland Community College Jeffrey Martin, Professor at Wayne State University Hypothesis The purpose of this study was to examine if traditional martial arts (TMA) and modern self defense training (MSDT), relative to a stress management comparison program, were equally effective in altering both multidimensional self efficacy and fear in relation to sexual victimization (Ball and Martin, 2011, p. 1). Do these type of actions reflect on one s self esteem and stress levels? Do they also help out during any type of sexual confrontation? These are the rhetorical questions are trying to be answered in this research experiment. Method Many people have experienced a type of sexual assault, whether it is rape or being inappropriately touched in private places. Most of these people are the women in our society. Many times when these incidents happen, women look for different ways to protect themselves from the sexual assaults and eventually look to prevent those incidents from ever happening again. Some women look for different self defense training programs in their modern day lives and some look to a more physical protection program, such as martial arts. There hasn t been any recent studies that have compared the two programs together to see which one is actually effective in those sexual assault incidents. Bell and ... This were people who refused to pay close attention to facts some of which were discoursed months before the election by Charisma on Command and Scot Adams. We ve learned a few things from Trump s win some of which I d share with you. 1). Don t believe anything you see on the media I was amazed at some of the fake news about Trump I saw circulating various African news websites and the funny thing is that people believed them without doing research. Prior to the election, it was evident the mainstream media was pro Hillary. They tried so hard to protect Hillary while always taking a jab at Trump. None of them as far as I know gave any indication that Trump won the presidential debates. But if you watch the debates and are true to yourself, you d agree to this. ... Bad publicity is better than no publicity Trump said this in his book, Art of the Deal , and it has proven to work for him during his presidential campaign. Trump has said some foolish things during his campaign. But some of the things he said have been blown out of propulsion by the mainstream media. The Great War, later dubbed as the First World War , hadn t really piqued the interest of the United States, as it wanted to be a neutral country to isolate itself from European affairs; the United States did not want to be a guest in Europe s concert made up of artillery impacts, machine gun fires, and homesick cries. There were also a lot more causes that also contributed to World War 1, but amongst them all, the one that was probably the most important was the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand. The reason as to why it was and is the most important cause to World War Iwas how much of a propulsion it had on the European countries to cause World War I in the first place. To start off, the assassination of the Archduke was by a member of a group called The Black Hand who were Serbian nationalists. During that time Russia had supported these Serbian Nationalists, and Austria Hungary deeply hated them. This assassination thus causes an ultimatum from Austria Hungary to Serbia (which then gets rejected), to which Austria Hungary responded back with a declaration of war against Serbia. • 19. The Consequences Of Video Game Violence In Video Games Violence in video games is well known for toeing the line between entertainment and immorality. The controversy began as early as 1976, when protestors destroyed an arcade game that revolved around hitting human like creatures with a car. As computers grew more advanced in the next two decades, video game violencebecame increasingly realistic ( Background of the Issue ). This prompted the creation of the Entertainment Software Rating Board, commonly abbreviated ESRB, in 1994 for parents to make informed decisions regarding the content their children were exposed to. The 1999 shooting at Columbine High School fueled the debate further, drawing potential connections between virtual violence and real world consequences ( Background of the Issue ). In the years following, laws regarding the sale of video games with graphic violence sprouted up across the nation. Even the Supreme Court was involved ( Background of the Issue ). Today, as many as 97% of US kids age 12 17 play video games, contributing to the $21.53 billion domestic video gameindustry ( Violent Video Games ). Critics of video game violence argue that it directly increases a person s violent behavior and lowers their tendency to act for the benefit of others. Defenders of video game violence argue that media coverage of video game violence is heavily biased, studies that link it to acts of violence are flawed, and that video game violence is a harmless outlet for emotions of aggression. Critics of violence in video games believe that it increases an adolescent s tendency toward violent actions. Multiple credible organizations also view playing violent video games as a statistical detail affecting a person s aggressive tendency. Over 98% of American pediatricians say that children and teens become more aggressive when exposed to violent media such as a violent video game ( Violent Video Games ). The FBI uses an individual s violent video game history to assess the risk of a school shooting threat. • 20. Summary Of Ten Questions By Joel M. Charon The study of sociology is the study of a society and how people behave in these societies. According to Joel M. Charon in his book Ten Questions, he states that Sociology is an academic discipline, an attempt to seek knowledge and understanding through painstaking and critical investigation (Charon 3). In other words, it is an attempt to become knowledgeable about of different societies and people in those societies work together. When studying sociology, a person is trying to understand human society and how humans act and react to certain situations presented to them in their society. It also seeks to understand how much a person will interact with their society. When Charon first discusses society he says, Society is not simply a bunch of individuals; it constitutes a larger whole, a reality that it is more than the sum of the individuals who make it up (Charon 5). This means that society does not mean lots of people in the same place, it is people living together as a community, having relationships with each other and having a similar or the same culture. A culture can be defined as a way of life for a group of people within their society. Living in a place where everyone comes from the same culture does not necessarily mean that you automatically have a well working society. While culture is very important to a society, it is important for the people living there to be able to establish relationships with the people living around them. For a society to thrive, the ... The paper concludes with a discussion of some of the cultural issues that affect the ability to create a Toyota like HR system in America. What is the Role of HR in a Lean Enterprise? The concept of lean production was first introduced in The Machine that Changed the World (Womack et al., 1991) to refer to a new way of looking at the manufacturing enterprise. It was distinguished from mass production by its single minded focus on eliminating waste in all aspects of the enterprise. An enterprise exists to add value to customers through a series of activities that transform inputs into outputs and anything other than the minimum needed to perform that value added function is waste. Toyota was the original model for lean and the concept of just in time epitomized the focus on waste elimination only make exactly what is needed, in the amount needed, when it is needed. In fact the just in time principle is one aspect of a broader philosophy represented by the Toyota production system. In TPS, the just in time concept is one pillar and the other is to build in quality at every step of the process, not allowing defects to propagate through the value stream. The ... Ethics And Infinity By Emmanuel Levinas Ethics and Infinity by Emmanuel Levinas The works of Emmanuel Levinas are considered to be hugely influential within the philosophical disciplines of twentieth century ethics and existentialism, but unfortunately the convolution and misrepresentation of his thinking often results in miscomprehension of his ideas. Totality and Infinity: A Book on Exteriority is one of Levinas earlier works (published in 1961 in French and 1969 in English) that has garnered much attention and praise from writers across a multitude of disciplines (not just philosophy) for the fact that it deals with the widely applicable subject of relations toward and perception of the Other from the perspective of the self. Throughout the book, the author demonstrates the manner in which subjectivity begins from the idea of perpetuity, and how the infinite is an outcome of the correlation of self and Other. The main purpose of Levinas work is to find out the dominance of the Other based on the epiphany of the face. According to his work, infinite is the beginning or foundation of ethics and, he also declines any ethical intellectualism. Levinas acknowledges the idea that not every human being is inherently ethical per se but he or she is an aspiration of Others. With many other essays, she focuses on the role of the Canadian army in the First World war. As we know, the Canadian army entered the war in early 1915 to offer help to the Britain soldiers fighting against the Germans. Most of the work that Gordon studied and with the publication date from this book, we can also say that collective memory is not a whole. Most of the soldiers are dead at this time and she had to rely on works that were published years later after the First War. Gordon quoted Winter in the first few chapters of her book, he stated: This sense of the socially constructed nature of collective memory is vital to historical study, since it precludes talking about memory as if it exists independently of the people who share it (2). From what I understand from the few pages that we had to read and with my research done with the whole book, the collective memory is based on the present memory, but since the soldiers they rely on are no longer in a group or in the same place, it is mostly a memory from one person. Another thing she said that made me realize how true her statement was with the novel that we studied during this term. She stated that: many of the narratives this volume examines rehabilitate the figure of the father and/or conception of productive masculinity; many follow in the tradition of early twentieth century home front novels by women to consider the value of female work, in wartime and beyond [...] and most conclude with a look to the future (which is now the present) and a sense of promise that is decidedly free from irony. Correct Encourage the client to empty his bladder. Emptying the bladder will help promote relaxation of the abdominal wall. B. Ask the client to breathe deeply several times. Breathing exercises may help relax the abdominal wall but should be done just prior to and during the examination, not prior to client positioning. C. Darken the room lights and lower the thermostat. A brightly lit room aids the nurse in accurate assessment. A chilled environment can increase muscle tension. D. Instruct the client to place his hands over his head. Placing the hands over the head can cause the abdominal muscles to tense. After completing the preparations, the nurse assists Calvin to a supine position on the bed. 6. Nixon s method to stall the influx of North Vietnamese soldiers and supplies into South Vietnam by directing American troops to terminate Communist supply bases in Cambodia. This defied Cambodian neutrality and consequently provoked a national outcry. Shortly after the Tet Offensive, the My Lai massacre struck when Charlie s Company, a unit of the American Division s 11th Infantry Brigade arrived in My Lai on a search and destroy mission to root out 48th Viet Cong Battalion ( My Lai Massacre ). They did not find what they were looking for, but instead of clearing the area, the U.S. soldiers decided to execute 504 of the 700 My Lai inhabitants in gruesome manners. Vietnamese women were raped while other noncombatants were clubbed and stabbed. Some victims were ruthlessly mutilated with the signature C Company carved into their chest ( My Lai Massacre ). The second signifies justice in war, or jus in bello, which essentially measures whether or not the ends justify the means. • 35. Tartuffe, a Comedy by Molier Tartuffe is one of the most famous comedies written by the French playwright MoliГЁre. The play tells the story of a wealthy Frenchman named Orgon who takes in Tartuffe, a man who presents himself to be religious and passionate but actually turns out to be a hypocrite. Despite his family s warnings, Orgon completely turns his back on his family in order to protect Tartuffe, who betrays him. During that time the play was first written and performed, many people, along with King Louis XIV himself, enjoyed the play. However, to others it was seen as being critical of religion and the church, which then lead to it being banned. In a political sense, Tartuffe serves as both an endorsement and critique of the ideas of absolutism, divine right,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In those times, religion was hard to separate from politics and other aspects. Tartuffe was able to fool people by claiming to be a devout man of God. If this were to happen with the King s advisors, it could cause corruption throughout many parts of the kingdom. MoliГЁre does believe that the King should seek advice from others, but he warns that he should listen to many opinions and think carefully before making a final decision. The divine right theory claims that the monarchs are specially selected by God to rule the kingdom. Consequently, the King is responsible for his own actions and decisions. However, God is the only one who can make judgments. So even if the King rules unfairly, that does not permit the citizens to rebel against his rule. Rather, it is up to God to handle it. In Tartuffe, MoliГЁre seems to praise the King for his fairness and mercy by pardoning Orgon in the end. Due to his previous loyalty to the throne, he returned Orgon s property to him and forgave him for hiding the papers. The wise King also saw through Tartuffe s deception and hypocrisy and had him arrested. These events in the story definitely show MoliГЁre s support for King Louis XIV, as he knew that abolitionism and divine right were honest intentions to rule the kingdom fairly. Also during this time period, an emphasis was placed on patriarchal family. God has ultimate authority over all, as He is the true ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 38. The Doctor In The Canterbury Tales Among the pilgrims in Geoffrey Chaucer s The Canterbury Tales we find a Doctour of Physik (line 413). This doctor is the twenty first character mentioned in the General Prologue. He comes after a pirate and before a woman of dubious conduct, thereby making his good qualities appear considerably more honorable than they would if he, for instance, followed the knight or parson. The narrator speaks highly of the doctor s scientific abilities and learned knowledge while also emphasizing his aptitude at his trade. There are, in addition, references to the doctor s religious competence, or lack thereof. By emphasizing the doctor s strengths and showing where his weaknesses lay, Chaucer uses him as the knight s equal on an opposite pole.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We also learn that the knight values thinks any honorable person would find worthy: truth, honor, freedom, and courtesy. This isn t to say that the doctor does not have these qualities at all, but his introduction is oriented less around chivalry and more around practicality. Thus, using a total of sixteen lines, Chaucer has placed both characters loyalties and motivations. The knight s are with God, on the spiritual side of the pole, and the doctor s are with the body, on the physical side. The benefits and faults of the doctor s position are opposite the knight s as well. While the knight is quite healthy spiritually, his physical health has been damaged by the many years of campaigning. • 39. Hernan Cortes Analysis Hernan Cortes s first encounter narrative, besides justifying his illegal trip to Mexico, displays the cultural and spiritual roles colonization played when he conquered the Aztecs. Cortes displays a very eurocentric outlook, for they had left their native land so long ago and as I had only recently arrived from there, I would better know the things they should believe (Cortes 58), the native land (Cortes 58) Cartes refers to is Europe. With this idea that Europe being the nucleus of the world signifies that Cortes has a cultural and religious duty to return these long lost Europeans back to the fold. Cortes having painted his view of the world creates a sense of belonging for him and all of Spain, in that since all life orginates in Europe all life and prosperity in the world is simply waiting to be plundered. He goes about this plundering by using Christianity as a moral justification for the colonization of the native population. He begins by destroying idols (Cortes 58) and setting up images , presumably of Christ, God, or The Virgin Mary, as they are superior to that of the natives and simply is what they should believe (Cortes 58) . This narrative of cultural and spiritual superiority is echoed in John Heckewelder s retelling of the Lenni Lenape (Heckewelder 68) colonization myth wherein a group of Dutch missionaries visit the new world and are revered as God s. Before they depart they distribute gifts among the natives of beads, axes, hoes, and stockings only to return on their second voyage to see the natives wearing them as ornaments (Heckewelder 70) wherein the whites laughed . Now Heckewelder s purpose in relaying this oral tradition is very similar to Cortes s it s to display the cultural and spiritual superiority of the Christian in helping the natives for they are too stupid to help themselves. Where they differ is that in the Lenni Lenape (Heckewelder 68) tradition this colonization myth ,for me, serves as a warning to the tribe. For while Heckewelder s original intention was most likely to display European superiority whether advertently or inadvertently it s original intention was to serve as a warning where if the Lenni Lenape (Heckewelder 68) continued to allow the ... Creating an information management system will advance their business protocols and provide a cohesiveness between inventory control, wait staff monitoring, and data security. Adding an additional focus on WiFi availability is an advantage to Club IT and their customers. Inventory control is a primary concern to prevent overstock and out of stock dilemmas. Overstocking products effects the budget negatively. Out of stock products essentially effects revenue negatively and hinders customer satisfactions. A business intelligence model that encompasses database functionality and a point of sale (POS) system features would remedy many of the inventory control downfalls. The automation provided by an information management system would allow ?critical? products to be automatically ordered when a designated remaining stock percentage is reached. Joseph Von Faunhofer Research Paper Joseph von Fraunhofer was a German optician and physicist who discovered and influenced how astronomers view the dark line spectrum, the spectrum of the sun and the diffraction of light. On March 6, 1787 in Straubing, Bavaria, Joseph Ritter von Fraunhofer was born into a poor family where his father Franz Xaver Fraunhofer was a watch glass maker. At the age of 10, Joseph s mother, Maria Anna Frohlich passed away, and only a year after his father died. This left Fraunhofer orphaned and forced him to start working as an apprentice for a harsh lens maker named Philipp Anton Weichelsberger. This was appropriate because since the age of 10 Joseph was already working in his familys workshop. Weichelsberger used Fraunhofer primarily as slave labor, often driving him to near starvation and exhaustion. However, on July 21, 1801, the workshop in which Fraunhofer was working in collapsed.
