Instructions:
• A command will be projected on the TV
screen that the students will follow (e.g.
stand up, raise your arms …), the last
person to do the task will be the one to
answer the given sentences.
• Sentences will be flashed on the screen.
• Identify if the sentence is a run-on or a
complete sentence.
• If the sentence is identified as a run-on, the
student will correct it.

34. What is a reported speech?
It is a way of reporting what
someone has said by
changing some of the words
said, but retaining the same
meaning.
35. When we narrate someone’s
words we can do it in two
ways. We can use direct
speech with quotation
marks, or we can use
reported speech.
36. Two kinds of reported speech
Direct Speech- Saying exactly what
someone has said, also referred to
as quoted speech. Here, what a
person says appears within
quotation marks (“…”) and should
be word for word.

It does not use quotation

41. The use of “that”
•“that” should be kept
after the verbs.
e.g. : The girl complained
that the waiter took long.
42. The use of Introductory Verbs
• “says” is used for the simple present
tense which shows an action which is
habitual.
• “said” is used for the simple past tense,
which may or may not be used with an
adverb of time.
