Lanham Elbow And Halasek Analysis
After reading the brief statements from Lanham, Elbow, and Halasek, each one offers its own views
on writing. Lanham, sheds light on the incorporation of style, that can will help us throughout the
semester. Style, is what give an author his or her own personality, their uniqueness, and how they
connect with their audience. The CBS theory stands for: clarity, brevity, and sincerity. This means
each the context of your writing should meet or fall within the lines of the 3 values of the CBS
module. Clarity, is where you want to clear on your statement, and put into words that others will be
able to understand. Brevity, means being brief with during communication, which can lead to the

In order to intrigue your readers, you must first know who you are trying to connect with and how.
Halasek talks about the six different types of audiences that could possibly be the focus of any paper.
The six types of audiences are: public, projected, textual, previous, immediate, and evaluative. A
public audience is there to help students get their ideas out into the public to help express their
message. Projected audience gives the writer a direction to head in when writing a paper. This allows
them to conduct their content and put it in order so that it best reaches their targeted audience. This
allows the writer to get constructive feedback on the direction he is heading with his work. Textual
audience is the complex part of writing, making sure that it all flows together seemingly. Previous
audience, is where they write towards an audience they already know, in hopes to figure out the
mistakes towards the new audience. Lastly, evaluative audience, is the final piece of the puzzle before
you are prepared to turn in the paper or have someone take a look at

Aristotle s Claim That The Highest Form Of Life
EXPLAIN AND CRITICALLY EXAMINE ARISTOTLE S CLAIM THAT THE HIGHEST FORM
OF LIFE IS ONE DEDICATED TO THOUGHT AND CONTEMPLATION
Introduction:
This essay is aimed at reviewing Aristotle s philosophical claim that thought and contemplation is the
highest form of life, with a view to explaining the veracity of his theory. Aristotle, like many other
philosophers wrote extensively on a variety of issues. His deep rooted conviction for a society based
on such theoretical foundation of thought, contemplation, reason and logic, made him explore the
perimeters of knowledge to advance the society on the foundation of knowledge. Most of Aristotle s
life was dedicated to the search for knowledge. Contemplation naturally brings about knowledge,
which is the base of discovery. For Aristotle, the life of unbroken contemplation is something divine.
It is the ultimate intellectual virtue, and it is the highest form of human activity. Like Plato s
postulation of the philosopher king or king philosopher as the ruler of society, Aristotle s theory of
thought and contemplation places premium on education, wisdom and knowledge as basis for
happiness, fulfilment and harmony. Socrates personally demonstrated this by staying in isolation at
some point to have the luxury of undisturbed thoughts, contemplation and meditation. The ancient,
medieval and modern philosophers gave a lot of time to this highest form of life, and this explains the
potency behind their prolific writings which has stood the

Realism in Oedipus the King Essay
Realism in Oedipus Rex
This essay will examine a feature of Sophocles tragedy which causes the reader to doubt the realism
underlying the literary work. Specifically, the essay will consider the feasability of the belief at that
time that the Delphi oracle possessed credibility with the people.
At the outset of the drama the priest of Zeus and the crowd of citizens of Thebes are gathered before
the royal palace of Thebes talking to King Oedipus about the plague which is ravaging the city. The
king is sorely troubled and laments the sad situation. Then he says:
I have sent Menoeceus son,
Creon, my consort s brother, to inquire
Of Pythian Phoebus at his Delphic shrine,
How I might ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
What s amiss?
CREON Banishment, or the shedding blood for blood.
This stain of blood makes shipwreck of our state.
And for the duration of the tragedy the characters explicitly or implicitly acknowledge their total
belief in the directions of the Delphic oracle as the only means of ridding Thebes of the plague.
Historically speaking, did the Delphic oracle have such credibility among the populace?
For an answer to this question we go to The Histories of Herodotus. Herodotus was called the Father
of History by Cicero and others. He lived and wrote in the fifth century BC just like Sophocles. As a
contemporary, Herodotus knew and wrote about the beliefs and customs of the ancient Greeks as an
historian, not as a litterateur. Herodotus was therefore interested in a factual presentation, not in an
imaginative presentation such as Sophocles sought for as a dramatist. Herodotus, therefore, can be
relied upon to either substantiate or contradict the validity of the situation in Oedipus Rex where the
realism of the drama rests considerably on the claimed belief in the infallibility of the Delphic oracle.
Let us examine a portion of The Histories that describes Athens, since Sophocles lived in Athens and
wrote for an Athenian audience and even had Oedipus die at Colonnus, a suburb of Athens. In Book V
Herodotus describes the engagement between the Athenians and the Boeotians, who were defeated;
then another victory for Athens

The Spanish Conquests And The Spanish Conquests
The Spanish Conquests were led and completed by extraordinary, Spanish soldiers that received no
help from translators as they obliterated the inferior, native culture! Right? Well, not quite. In fact,
these are the very myths that Restall s book sets out to disprove. From the time they were recorded in
ink as primary sources to even now when historians heatedly debate historic events, facts have been
misconstrued. Nevertheless, these biased stories have been blindly accepted as truth because sources
were not cross checked, inaccurate primary sources were accepted, and later history changed
perceptions of earlier events. Most of the problems with primary sources stem from the Spanish
playing down their mistakes and uncertainties and enhancing their successes in the foreign land. The
continual reliability on just well known, primary sources gives a very one sided view of history which
has spawned a plethora of inaccurate information. Readers should take away from Restall s
analyzation that just ordinary businessmen, along with indigenous groups and Africans sought riches
in the Americas. While Conquistadors were there, they never reached full control over the natives, and
rather than desolating the culture, Natives adapted and blended Spanish culture within their own. The
Spanish were also not superior to the indigenous people, they just brought deadly diseases over that
devastated native population numbers and had steel weapons that were critical in battle. Historians

Coastal Management In Hastings
Hypothesis Coastal Management in Hastings is effective economically, socially, environmentally and
is sustainable for the future.
Hastings was chosen as an area to investigate coastal management because they had three types of
hard and soft engineering. Secondly, it has a tourist industry that can be investigated. Thirdly, it has
Shoreline Management Plan so the plan can be evaluated. Lastly, it Ties in with tourism and coastal
parts of GCSE syllabus that are familiar and understood
Key Concepts
Longshore drift is movement of sediment along the coastline. The prevailing wind blows waves
carrying sediment into the beach at an angle, the waves break on the shore and as the water runs back
into the sea it carries the sediment back down the beach, perpendicular to the angle. This will lead to a
zigzag motion (/////) as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Soft engineering is working with nature by using natural materials or allowing nature to take back
areas. some examples of this is beach nourishment is the process of dumping or pumping sand from
elsewhere onto an eroding shoreline which is to create a new beach or to widen the existing beach, this
technique is natural and makes the waves lose power travelling across it,However it dosen t last very
long and It does not stop erosion,it simply gives the erosional forces (usually waves) something else to
erode for awhile, another type of soft engineering is managed retreat which is where Areas of the coast
are allowed to erode and flood naturally, this makes the land become an marsh, slowing waves and
reducing ersoion, however land is lost. Another type of coastal management is hard engineering
involves building structures to protect the coast. Some examples of this is a sea wall, which is a wall
set up to prevent the sea eroding an area of land, thishelps prevent flooding, however waves bounce off
the wall and scour the beach removing

How Does Holden Caulfield Change
The change of Holden Caulfield
Holden s parents as it seemed in the book they didn t necessarily fill the large role of parenthood.
holden from a young age wasn t given all the attention he needed as a young child . his parents loved
him but just weren t present in his life because of the working obligations they had. We can see this
when Holden says and what my lousy childhood was like, and how my parents were occupied and all
before they had me and all.. (Salinger 1). We can see a clear absence of his parent s figures when he
gets kicked out of boarding school and they didn t find out until he had the mental break down. At this
point, it is clear that Holden Caulfield has an underlying mental condition. He failed out of four

It is clear to me that Holden has well I wouldn t say communication problems but very close to it. I
see that when he goes on the date with Sally Hayes it exhibited his difficulty at cooperating with
others. At first, he gives us a dire impression of Sally, I wasn t too crazy about her, but I d known her
for years. (slainger105) I see that holden doesn t want to necessary express himself and suppress his
feeling and affection to seem he is tough. I would implore holding to go out in the world and act like
how he really is and not to make a fake false persona of himself. Holden is suspended between
adulthood and childhood. Several of his actions and words show evidence of his confusion between
adults and children. Admitting to his immaturity, Holden says, I was sixteen then, and I m seventeen
now, and sometimes I act like I m about thirteen. (Salinger 9) Sunny, the prostitute is an example of
Holden s attempt to be an adult, but realizing he is stuck in childhood. You see my son is really trying
to be someone he is not and I think that his school life has an important role in that.
When holding attended pencey prep he always wanted to not be the one standing out see he would
join clicks so he wouldn t get bullied because my son is a pacifist. I would have to take Holden out of
school a probably homeschool him because I think interaction with high school children is not
necessarily right for him. I mean yes interaction is necessary but not in an environment where 15 18
year olds feel like they rule. I understand that Holden has a strong relationship with his sister so I
would continue to make him interact with her and care for her because seemingly that brings him

Essay on John Stuart Mill’s Education
John Stuart Mill s Education
John Stuart Mill s education was intense at all times, but at different stages in his life he learned
different things and in different ways. Though his education was unique by all accounts, it embodied
many virtues that modern educational systems strive to include. These include: close parent
involvement and one on one work between students and teachers; exposure to intellectual role models;
emphasis on independent thought, logic, and pursuing curiosities; being held to high standards for
achievement; being free from invidious comparisons to peers; and learning the value of seeking out
peers for intellectual support and stimulation. He also learned, during personal struggles to understand

From the start his energies were funneled into academic learning, and since he associated studies with
his attention from his father, and since he had no other frame of reference to which to compare his
childhood as he lived it, he reports being reasonably happy and engaged in his early educational
training.
As he got a bit older, Mill s father extended his studies to include political and economic theory and
logic and pushed Mill to think critically, make analytical arguments, and pursue his curiosities and
write on his own. Mill s daily walks with his father, during which he recounted everything he learned
the previous day, reinforced the association between familial relationships and academic achievement.
Though he thought of himself as much his father s subordinate, he was taught the analytical tools that
allowed him to evaluate the things his father taught him as well as the opinions he himself formed and
had to substantiate. Inspired by his love of reading histories, he wrote several of his own, which
practice his father approved of but did not interfere in by asking or insisting on reading his son s
histories. The creation of a private sphere within his education separate from the part of it that he
shared with his father allowed Mill to appropriate learning as his own. By applying the tools and
resources of his training under his father to enjoyable hobbies of his own, he reinforced his skills

Comparing The Uffizi In Florence And Liverpool s Town Hall
The two building I decided to compare were The Uffizi in Florence and Liverpool s Town Hall. The
Uffizi, built by Alfonso Parigi and Bernardo Buontalenti in 1580 in a pre industrial Florence, was
primarily built to house the offices of thirteen Florentine magistrates and guilds in one place , and
from this position they would have had authority over the entire Republic of Florence. Whereas the
Town Hall built from 1749 1754, during the industrial revolution, was designed by John Wood , but
was largely rebuilt in the early 19th century, adding a dome and south facing portico to the existing
building. It served a variety of functions, including the Mayor s Courtroom and a customs warehouse.
Since 1952 it has been a grade 1 listed building , referred to as one of the finest surviving 18th century
town halls . Unlike the Uffizi, the Town Hall, only had authority over the local area and people.
However this allowed them to have more control over people s daily lives. The Uffizi, Florence (2016)

Slave Codes in the Pre Civil War United States
Prior to the emancipation of the slaves in the United States , there were several laws governing the
identities and the relationships of people with slaves . These laws were prevalent in the states that
allowed slavery , especially in the South . These codes stipulated the rights of masters toward their
slaves and defined the status of slaves in the American society . These codes also gave white masters
almost absolute power over their slaves . The rights of slaves were so minimal that they were

Saul Bellow Seize the Day the Water Imagery
Water Imagery in Seize the Day
Saul Bellow s Seize the Day is one of the most profoundly sad novels to be written since Tender is the
Night. On this day of reckoning, during the seven hours or so that comprise the action of the novel, all
the troubles that constitute the present condition of Wilhelm Adler descend upon him and crush him,
leaving him penniless, alone, and in such profound misery that one can hardly imagine his going on.
He is, as he says, at the end of his rope. This has been one of those days, he says to his wife, May I
never live to go through another like it. We feel that he may not live at all, so great is his misery, so
completely has he been destroyed.
Yet if we look more deeply, more accurately, we see that the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

They were his brothers and sisters. He was imperfect and disfigured himself, but what difference did
that make if he was united with them by this blaze of love? And as he walked he began to say, Oh my
brothers my brothers and my sisters, blessing them all as well as himself.
Although such feelings never last long and are usually fled from rather than welcomed, on this day of
reckoning he remembers this experience and thinks, I must go back to that. That s the right clue and
may do me the most good. Something very big. Truth, like.
This affirmation, feeble as it is, constitutes his own dim recognition of the saving end of what more
often appears to him as a destructive element his own intensely emotional nature. He continually
blames his failures on his strong and often uncontrollable emotions; yet we are finally made aware
that it is just this capacity to feel, more specifically this need to love and be loved, that makes possible
the birth of Wilhelm s soul at the end of the novel. Ultimately, the clearest indication that the action of
Seize the Day is ironic is found in Bellow s attitude toward man s emotional nature, not just as
revealed in this novel but throughout his writing. That Bellow is in the tradition of the great English
Romantic poets Wordsworth in particular in this respect has been brilliantly argued by Irvin Stock in
[The Southern Review, Winter 1967].
Understanding the structure of Bellow s novel to be ironic, we are now able to state its major

Hybrid Cars And Hybrid Electric Vehicles
In the present generation where automobiles are very important in daily life, there is two types of cars
i.e. Gasoline vehicles and hybrid electric vehicles, hybrid electric cars which used quite a while but
not as much as their gasoline counterparts. The difference between these two cars is mainly the
Engine, tank, and the source on which the cars work. The hybrid electric vehicle is more a
computerized and electric version where it switch between running on gasoline and electricity. Other
than that major changes, these cars are fundamentally the same. The body and the maneuvering design
of these are fundamentally the same. Hybrid cars were few to come by when they were initially
introduced, but current climate change and pollution issues have encouraged people to opt for the
cleaner and greener version of the automobile. Although both kinds of automobiles are being used,
there are a lot of aspects where these automobiles can be differentiated. A few comparisons between
these two vehicles is stated below.
1. HISTORY:
a. Hybrid: This type of engine vehicles were invented in the 19th century but it came into market in
early 2000 and gained popularity in the 2005 from then on many started to use this type of vehicles.
b. Gasoline: This type of vehicles were invented in 1876 in Germany and the usage of these cars was
from 1882 and it is still very much in demand in the market for its features.

Calcular obstruction of the ureter is one of the most frequently encountered emergency cases in the

Understanding Library Impact On Student Learning
Many college decisions alone are made upon the evaluation of a campus facilities, most importantly,
the library; the central spot students meet and attain their studies. The Watauga campus of Caldwell
Community College and Technical Institute has been neglected and is in dire need of a more
sophisticated and modern academic library. Academic libraries benefit students, as well as faculty
members. They offer a place for students studying alone or with a group, provide reference materials,
and in some snazzy locations, a place to get a cup of Joe. Education is the basis of personal growth
and professional success and a library is a wonderful place to begin this journey. According to Derek

for purposes of continuous improvement (7). Libraries serve to be a very quiet and beneficial place of

A Short Summary On Bad Habits
My Habits
I can definitely relate to Patsy, about the bad habits. If I could remember how I acted as a child, then I
would try to work towards that. I feel like I started my habits at a very young age because, my past
was difficult and I knew it was wrong with what I went through. I feel like I can tell people what I
went through as a kid which, I was sexually abused. But I know I have to drop it and move forward
because I feel like it is holding me back. I started to close off my happiness towards the males in my
family. I noticed that the people who hurt me, did not bother me anymore because my goal was to not

that, I do not know why my mouth is always closed. A lot of people say I look mad or sad which I can

The Idea Of Love In Troy By Adele Geras
Love is a concept that was scattered throughout the novel Troy by Adele Geras. It was used to betray,
or to bring happiness, during the all famous Trojan War that the book centers around. Either way, love
was used to motivate the characters we follow in the story whether it was Xanthe getting away from
Boros, or Marpessa betraying her sister for a guy. Love was the way these characters achieve their
goals, without the love in the story, plot lines and character development certainly would not have
been the same. Which is why the main characters in the city of Troy used their feelings to achieve
greater things.
Troy s greatest warrior was Lord Hector, the son of the king and queen living alongside his wife
Andromache and his newborn son Astyanax ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As a younger sister to Xanthe, Marpessa and her grew up together and without parents. Their love for
eachother was great, but Alastor s love for Marpessa was greater. And she loved him in return, but
knowing that Xanthe loved Alastor as well made her fill with regret and grief. When push comes to
shove she choses Alastor over Xanthe due to her love for him. In the book it says, Later, said Alastor
kiss me first The way Marpessa loved Alastor was beyond her love for Xanthe. Using this love,
Marpessa betrays Xanthe and her feelings. In conclusion love is a theme that has been written and will
be written until writing is no longer allowed. In Troy no matter which side won, the greeks or the
Trojans, love was the greatest power. Weather it was for betrayal with Marpessa and Xanthe or to keep
going like Hector and Andromache. Love played a huge role in the novel and was to be used as a
motivator. So, even though the book centers around the war the real battle to be fought is the one with
the characters

Windigo As A Descriptive Language Of Horror
Why do people enjoy being afraid? When were scared it can bring people closer to one another and it
can be fun. But some people go even further, seeking out horror movies and complex haunted houses
that are made to scare the daylights out of them. What possesses people to seek out experiences that
make them tremble with fear? Experts say Enjoyment likely comes not from the fear itself, but from
the physical and emotional toll it has on us,this is the allure of fear, the reason some people like being
scared such as people that love the adrenaline rush, things to kinda get them pumped, like roller
coasters and bunjee jumping ,or people could love this feeling simply because of a chemical released
from our brain called dopamine, its like our pleasure factor.these are the reasons we like to read the

The Pros And Cons Of The Federal Prison System
In the United States of America there are currently two prison systems in place; the Federal prison
system, and the State prison system. Every state in the U.S. has its own Department of Corrections,
which is tasked with handling crimes committed at the state level (Allen, 2017). The state where the
crime occurred has jurisdiction over the individual that committed the crime. An individual, whom has
committed a crime within a state s jurisdiction that results in a long sentence, is sent to the state prison
system in that particular state (Allen, 2017). A long sentence encompasses a period of time which
exceeds a year, and a day; which is the length of time given to an individual convicted of a felony
crime. An individual convicted of a misdemeanor crime which is accompanied by a sentencing length
of less than a year, will serve their respective sentence in a jail. Once the individual has received their
sentence, they will go through an initial classification process (Allen, Latessa, and Ponder, 2013). The
purpose of the initial classification process is to identify the individual s custody level, work
assignment, and treatment. The initial classification process will differentiate between those
individuals that present different security risks, and supervision concerns. Factors such as the
individual s current offense, escape potential and prior criminal history are factored in during the
initial classification. Also, an individual s background attributes, such as mental

Titration In The Medical Field
Today, in the real world, titration is used in the medical field to find the concentration of blood and
urine. It is also used to find a certain amount of a chemical in a food. A titration is a way to the
concentration of an unknown solution by using a solution with a known concentration. The unknown
solution is called an analyte , while the known solution is called the Titrant . The glassware used in
order to preform titrations is a buret or burette . A burette is a glass cylinder with a tap on one of the
edges. It is used for measuring volumes of liquids, especially in titrations.
Standardization (sometimes referred to as standardisation) is a way of putting something or make
something into technical standards. Standardization is used when doing a titration since it finds out the
exact concentration of a solution that you want to use to find the concentration of the analyte.
An equivalence point in a titration is when the moles of the titrant equal the moles of a analyte. One
way to find the Equivalence point is through the pH indicator. This is an indicator that changes color
when there is a chemical change. An acid and base indicator changes color depending on what the pH
is. There are also Redox ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In order to find a standard solution you must first, add water from a cleaning bottle to dissolve it.
Second, you would need to use some of the water to rinse off all the substance off the watch glass.
This needs to be done at least two times. Then stir with a glass rod until all the of the solid substance
is dissolved, then put the solution to the volumetric flask. The laboratory method is when you drop the
titrant into the analyt. (basically titration). The results you get are titration, pH level, and the moles.
The equation to find molarity/concentration is: M1 x V1 = M2 V2. In conclusion, titration is very
useful in the modern day. It s also pretty

The Black Of Black And 70s
Movies are more than a form of entrainment. They are pieces of art that express social and political
problems within the culture. The Black male character and culture has not always been a predominant
figure in films like they are today. The display of the African American culture in film has progressed
through the years. It has progressed by the change of racism displayed on screen, the character roles,
and the emergence black figures and society in motion pictures. (How racism is depicted in the films
Black face we would see it again) With movies such as Guess Who s Coming to Dinner, Shaft, Do The
Right Thing, and Madea s Family Reunion. People see the transformation of black cinema throughout
the years. Films of the 60s, 70s, and 80s have significant differences from contemporary productions
as the standards of culture shift in the decades. Before the audience can note the rise of black figures
and standards in film. They must have recognition of the history of black cinema before its transition
into the mainstream. Displays of black character roles and black culture from earlier films like Birth of
a Nation (1915) and Gone with the Wild (1939) have a different representation on the view of black
society and how racism was addressed in those times. In these earlier films blacks were not given
main roles in cinema. Blacks Americans were typically given minimal roles and true to race roles such
as servants, slaves, butlers and etc. African Americans did not have a

The Importance Of Advertising And Marketing
The main goal of advertising and marketing is delivering the right message to the right person at the
right time. Having a strong an e commerce brand is vital for an e commerce business to be successful.
Marketing and advertising is almost as important as a brand. A major part to branding is how the
message is delivered. Advertisers have new and ingenious ways to get their advertising messages to
the consumer. Using the world wide web, social medias sites, display ads, video advertisements along
with mobile technology will increase visits and earnings to any e commerce site.
The number one way for e commerce sites to advertise is the world wide web. A website is a major
tool for launching the initial connection with a consumer. Google for example, is a major source of
online advertising. This site alone has over 3.5 billion searches per day and 1.2 trillion searches per
year worldwide. To get an idea of companies advertising on the internet, there are close to one billion
websites on the Internet (Internet Live Stats, n.d. c).
Another ingenious way for an e commerce site to advertise is social media. Utilizing social media as a
marketing and advertisement involves promoting the brand and images directly to the consumers that
results in sales and services directly. With over 1 billion members, Facebook has a membership equal
to one sixth of the global population.
Mobile technology marketing and advertising tools involve the use of displays, banners, ads, search

Public Representation In Australia
Truth and Representation
In today s world, the way we perceive events and situations is largely influenced by the public
representation of the issue. Media plays a big part in how we see certain situations, and helps shape
our attitudes towards them. One of the issues of current significgsance is the Australian immigration
policy and the treatment of Boat People . In this essay, I will argue that there is misrepresentations of
this issue in the public representation such as the media the tensions that are inherent include,
propaganda, the use of specific language and the widespread ignorance about demography. I will be
discussing these in my essay.
Like with any social issue, the government and media try to put forward a ... Show more content on

It was first used back in the year 1976 when the first Vietnamese immigrants arrived. Since then the
providing of transport for refugees is people smuggling , even though Australian law states that it is a
legal right to arrive without papers and ask for help (Shepherd 2012). The word smuggling implies
that the act is illegal, how can something that is legal for the refugees be illegal for those who give
them nothing more than a means of one way transport? Language such as this is used to demonize and
de value the immigrants and the people who try to bring them to our country. Furthermore, this kind of
language adds to the national ignorance about the issue.
Australia is a highly educated country by global standards and is supposed to be well informed about
social issues. But when it comes to the issue of demography this is different. Opinion poll questions
on attitudes towards immigration provide an indirect confirmation of a widespread ignorance and
misunderstanding about demography (Betts 2008). If people are asked about whether they think the
present number of immigrants coming to Australia is too many, about right or too few, or don t know
the majority of respondents are unable to provide an direct answer. With this type of question that is
complex and needs a great understanding of the issue, the answer don t know is never more than 10 %

The Pros And Cons Of A Hero
Superman, Batman, Ironman, Hulk, Thor, etc. These superheroes were all heroes in the world with a
superpower; however, in reality a hero is much more than having an amazing superpower. All people
have the potential to become a hero, and the traits and actions that make up a hero are inside each and
every one of us. Heroes are all around us in both the modern and past world. These heroes are created
in many ways, but it doesn t take a risky moment, or it doesn t take saving the world to be a hero. A
hero isn t always the strongest human being that risks their life, a hero is someone who makes a
positive impact in someone else s life and overcomes challenges. To begin, Bob Riley said, Hard times
don t create heroes. It is during the hard times when the hero within us is revealed. This quote proves
how a hero faces hard times, and a hero defeats these obstacles that face him or her. In addition, there
are many examples of heroes in the modern world. These unique heroes in the world are regular
people like you and me. The only difference is, these unique heroes take an extra step and make a
footprint in the world. To make this print, there were, and are many situations and natural disasters in
the word that help bring out these heroes. For example, during the 9/11 attacks there were dozens of
heroes. People from all different backgrounds became a hero saving others lives or having a positive
impact in a random stranger s life. One hero during this troublesome time in

Creative Thinking With A Traveling Mindset
In Alain de Botton s essay, On Habit and Adam Gopnik essay, Bumping into Mr. Ravioli explain the
way that individuals can think creatively and express their feelings and thoughts into newer meaning
and in depth ideas. They also explain the way that the human race are so engaged in technology and
busyness that they are overlooking what really is important to them in their life. De Botton is worried
that many people do not go beyond limitations and need to explore their surrounding more and
appreciate what is going on around them. He urges people to use their traveling mindset and try to

He further explains and says, The crowding of our space has been reinforced of our time, and the only
way to protect ourselves is to build structures of perpetual deferral: I ll see you next week, let s talk
soon (Gopnik 158). He feels that adults need to deal with the problems in a way to make time for their
family and friends. These individuals should not push their problems aside and wait for a later date to
deal with the situation and approach the issue with determination to complete the job. Social media
activism motivates the individual to help a cause, but there is little sacrifice in creating an impact. The
situation may not affect their family and friends so they are not motivated to go further and exceed
expectations. Since technology makes adults feel busy, individuals feel overworked and at a sense of
hardship because they feel it is not important enough to embrace the assignment at hand. Just as
Gopnik stated, de Botton took this applying the behavior of optimistic insight and imposing goal
allowing an individual to change their behavior without changing the physical environment.
Unfortunately, many individuals lack this tool in approaching environment they are familiar with.
Alain de Botton explains that destination is now what fulfills our goals and says, The pleasure we
derive from journeys is perhaps dependent more on the mindset in which we travel than on the
destination we travel to (de Botton 61). If an individual applies the behavior of an

Analysis Of The Book Watchmen By Dave Gibbons
Watchmen written by Alan Moore and illustrated by Dave Gibbons utilizes the literary tool of symbols
to connect ideas and themes. Time is a major theme throughout the comic and plays a significant part
in the structure and outcome of the story. This theme is successfully coupled to the theme of destiny
by the use of the clock and other symbols that are present throughout the comic. Symbols such as
clocks, the smiley pin, and the graffiti are utilized to efficiently connect the themes of time, justice and
the loss of innocence and morality throughout Watchmen. The combination of all of these themes
ultimately allude to Ozymandias decision to unleash chaos on Manhattan by foreshadowing his
betrayal and explaining how impossible it is to entrench the peace that he has manufactured by
unleashing this chaos. The clocks in Watchmen are used to foreshadow crucial future events and
connect the themes of morality and time. Other than the literal connection between calling themselves
Watchmen and recurring images of actual watches, doomsday clocks and time in general plays a huge
part in the arc of the comic s storyline. This is because of the impending destruction that the world is
to face at the hands of Ozymandias. Doctor Manhattan s father was a watchmaker before learning that
time is irrelevant and therefore useless. Jon himself finds this out through his own experience with
time and seeing back and forth through it. This is particularly important because the whole reason he

The causative agent of Malaria is the Plasmodium parasites. The malaria parasites are spread

in humans are caused by 5 parasite species, P. falciparum and P. vivax are 2 of the species
which pose the greatest threat. The most prevalent malaria parasite on the African continent is
the P. falciparum. Most malaria related deaths globally are caused by the P. falciparum
parasite. The dominant malaria parasite in most countries outside of sub Saharan Africa is the
P. vivax parasite.

The Military Installation Of America s 21st Century Wars
This is not what war is supposed to look like. That is my first thought upon arriving at MacDill Air
Force Base, Florida, on March 11, 2010. We stop at a small red roofed gatehouse with a single beamed
electric post. The quiet entrance of this base, with its red leafed palms, towering oaks, and rows of
citrus trees, set on a 6,000 acre peninsula, has the appearance of an idyllic beach resort. The wooden
gatehouse is neither substantial nor imposing. It does not hint of Fortress America nor would it pass
the minimum post 9/11 standards of perimeter security. Its diminutive scale is far out of proportion to
the consequential institutions on the other side. For me, the disparity is jarring. Small dark lettering at

In order to intrigue your readers, you must first know who you are trying to connect with and how. Halasek talks about the six different types of audiences that could possibly be the focus of any paper. The six types of audiences are: public, projected, textual, previous, immediate, and evaluative. A public audience is there to help students get their ideas out into the public to help express their message. Projected audience gives the writer a direction to head in when writing a paper. This allows them to conduct their content and put it in order so that it best reaches their targeted audience. This allows the writer to get constructive feedback on the direction he is heading with his work. Textual audience is the complex part of writing, making sure that it all flows together seemingly. Previous audience, is where they write towards an audience they already know, in hopes to figure out the mistakes towards the new audience. • 3. Aristotle s Claim That The Highest Form Of Life EXPLAIN AND CRITICALLY EXAMINE ARISTOTLE S CLAIM THAT THE HIGHEST FORM OF LIFE IS ONE DEDICATED TO THOUGHT AND CONTEMPLATION Introduction: This essay is aimed at reviewing Aristotle s philosophical claim that thought and contemplation is the highest form of life, with a view to explaining the veracity of his theory. Aristotle, like many other philosophers wrote extensively on a variety of issues. His deep rooted conviction for a society based on such theoretical foundation of thought, contemplation, reason and logic, made him explore the perimeters of knowledge to advance the society on the foundation of knowledge. Most of Aristotle s life was dedicated to the search for knowledge. Contemplation naturally brings about knowledge, which is the base of discovery. For Aristotle, the life of unbroken contemplation is something divine. It is the ultimate intellectual virtue, and it is the highest form of human activity. Like Plato s postulation of the philosopher king or king philosopher as the ruler of society, Aristotle s theory of thought and contemplation places premium on education, wisdom and knowledge as basis for happiness, fulfilment and harmony. Socrates personally demonstrated this by staying in isolation at some point to have the luxury of undisturbed thoughts, contemplation and meditation. The ancient, medieval and modern philosophers gave a lot of time to this highest form of life, and this explains the potency behind their prolific writings which has stood the ... • 4. Realism in Oedipus the King Essay Realism in Oedipus Rex This essay will examine a feature of Sophocles tragedy which causes the reader to doubt the realism underlying the literary work. Specifically, the essay will consider the feasability of the belief at that time that the Delphi oracle possessed credibility with the people. At the outset of the drama the priest of Zeus and the crowd of citizens of Thebes are gathered before the royal palace of Thebes talking to King Oedipus about the plague which is ravaging the city. The king is sorely troubled and laments the sad situation. Then he says: I have sent Menoeceus son, Creon, my consort s brother, to inquire Of Pythian Phoebus at his Delphic shrine, How I might ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... What s amiss? CREON Banishment, or the shedding blood for blood. This stain of blood makes shipwreck of our state. And for the duration of the tragedy the characters explicitly or implicitly acknowledge their total belief in the directions of the Delphic oracle as the only means of ridding Thebes of the plague. Historically speaking, did the Delphic oracle have such credibility among the populace? For an answer to this question we go to The Histories of Herodotus. Herodotus was called the Father of History by Cicero and others. He lived and wrote in the fifth century BC just like Sophocles. As a contemporary, Herodotus knew and wrote about the beliefs and customs of the ancient Greeks as an historian, not as a litterateur. Herodotus was therefore interested in a factual presentation, not in an imaginative presentation such as Sophocles sought for as a dramatist. Herodotus, therefore, can be relied upon to either substantiate or contradict the validity of the situation in Oedipus Rex where the realism of the drama rests considerably on the claimed belief in the infallibility of the Delphic oracle. Let us examine a portion of The Histories that describes Athens, since Sophocles lived in Athens and wrote for an Athenian audience and even had Oedipus die at Colonnus, a suburb of Athens. In Book V Herodotus describes the engagement between the Athenians and the Boeotians, who were defeated; then another victory for Athens

  • 6. The Spanish Conquests And The Spanish Conquests The Spanish Conquests were led and completed by extraordinary, Spanish soldiers that received no help from translators as they obliterated the inferior, native culture! Right? Well, not quite. In fact, these are the very myths that Restall s book sets out to disprove. From the time they were recorded in ink as primary sources to even now when historians heatedly debate historic events, facts have been misconstrued. Nevertheless, these biased stories have been blindly accepted as truth because sources were not cross checked, inaccurate primary sources were accepted, and later history changed perceptions of earlier events. Most of the problems with primary sources stem from the Spanish playing down their mistakes and uncertainties and enhancing their successes in the foreign land. The continual reliability on just well known, primary sources gives a very one sided view of history which has spawned a plethora of inaccurate information. Readers should take away from Restall s analyzation that just ordinary businessmen, along with indigenous groups and Africans sought riches in the Americas. While Conquistadors were there, they never reached full control over the natives, and rather than desolating the culture, Natives adapted and blended Spanish culture within their own. The Spanish were also not superior to the indigenous people, they just brought deadly diseases over that devastated native population numbers and had steel weapons that were critical in battle. Hastings was chosen as an area to investigate coastal management because they had three types of hard and soft engineering. Secondly, it has a tourist industry that can be investigated. Thirdly, it has Shoreline Management Plan so the plan can be evaluated. Lastly, it Ties in with tourism and coastal parts of GCSE syllabus that are familiar and understood Key Concepts Longshore drift is movement of sediment along the coastline. How Does Holden Caulfield Change The change of Holden Caulfield Holden s parents as it seemed in the book they didn t necessarily fill the large role of parenthood. holden from a young age wasn t given all the attention he needed as a young child . his parents loved him but just weren t present in his life because of the working obligations they had. We can see this when Holden says and what my lousy childhood was like, and how my parents were occupied and all before they had me and all.. (Salinger 1). We can see a clear absence of his parent s figures when he gets kicked out of boarding school and they didn t find out until he had the mental break down. At this point, it is clear that Holden Caulfield has an underlying mental condition. He failed out of four schools; ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is clear to me that Holden has well I wouldn t say communication problems but very close to it. I see that when he goes on the date with Sally Hayes it exhibited his difficulty at cooperating with others. At first, he gives us a dire impression of Sally, I wasn t too crazy about her, but I d known her for years. (slainger105) I see that holden doesn t want to necessary express himself and suppress his feeling and affection to seem he is tough. I would implore holding to go out in the world and act like how he really is and not to make a fake false persona of himself. Holden is suspended between adulthood and childhood. Several of his actions and words show evidence of his confusion between adults and children. Admitting to his immaturity, Holden says, I was sixteen then, and I m seventeen now, and sometimes I act like I m about thirteen. (Salinger 9) Sunny, the prostitute is an example of Holden s attempt to be an adult, but realizing he is stuck in childhood. You see my son is really trying to be someone he is not and I think that his school life has an important role in that. When holding attended pencey prep he always wanted to not be the one standing out see he would join clicks so he wouldn t get bullied because my son is a pacifist. Essay on John Stuart Mill’s Education John Stuart Mill s Education John Stuart Mill s education was intense at all times, but at different stages in his life he learned different things and in different ways. Though his education was unique by all accounts, it embodied many virtues that modern educational systems strive to include. These include: close parent involvement and one on one work between students and teachers; exposure to intellectual role models; emphasis on independent thought, logic, and pursuing curiosities; being held to high standards for achievement; being free from invidious comparisons to peers; and learning the value of seeking out peers for intellectual support and stimulation. From the start his energies were funneled into academic learning, and since he associated studies with his attention from his father, and since he had no other frame of reference to which to compare his childhood as he lived it, he reports being reasonably happy and engaged in his early educational training. As he got a bit older, Mill s father extended his studies to include political and economic theory and logic and pushed Mill to think critically, make analytical arguments, and pursue his curiosities and write on his own. Mill s daily walks with his father, during which he recounted everything he learned the previous day, reinforced the association between familial relationships and academic achievement. Though he thought of himself as much his father s subordinate, he was taught the analytical tools that allowed him to evaluate the things his father taught him as well as the opinions he himself formed and had to substantiate. Inspired by his love of reading histories, he wrote several of his own, which practice his father approved of but did not interfere in by asking or insisting on reading his son s histories. The creation of a private sphere within his education separate from the part of it that he shared with his father allowed Mill to appropriate learning as his own. By applying the tools and resources of his training under his father to enjoyable hobbies of his own, he reinforced his skills ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Uffizi, built by Alfonso Parigi and Bernardo Buontalenti in 1580 in a pre industrial Florence, was primarily built to house the offices of thirteen Florentine magistrates and guilds in one place , and from this position they would have had authority over the entire Republic of Florence. Whereas the Town Hall built from 1749 1754, during the industrial revolution, was designed by John Wood , but was largely rebuilt in the early 19th century, adding a dome and south facing portico to the existing building. It served a variety of functions, including the Mayor s Courtroom and a customs warehouse. On this day of reckoning, during the seven hours or so that comprise the action of the novel, all the troubles that constitute the present condition of Wilhelm Adler descend upon him and crush him, leaving him penniless, alone, and in such profound misery that one can hardly imagine his going on. He is, as he says, at the end of his rope. This has been one of those days, he says to his wife, May I never live to go through another like it. And as he walked he began to say, Oh my brothers my brothers and my sisters, blessing them all as well as himself. Although such feelings never last long and are usually fled from rather than welcomed, on this day of reckoning he remembers this experience and thinks, I must go back to that. That s the right clue and may do me the most good. Something very big. Truth, like. This affirmation, feeble as it is, constitutes his own dim recognition of the saving end of what more often appears to him as a destructive element his own intensely emotional nature. He continually blames his failures on his strong and often uncontrollable emotions; yet we are finally made aware that it is just this capacity to feel, more specifically this need to love and be loved, that makes possible the birth of Wilhelm s soul at the end of the novel. Ultimately, the clearest indication that the action of Seize the Day is ironic is found in Bellow s attitude toward man s emotional nature, not just as revealed in this novel but throughout his writing. That Bellow is in the tradition of the great English Romantic poets Wordsworth in particular in this respect has been brilliantly argued by Irvin Stock in [The Southern Review, Winter 1967]. Every state in the U.S. has its own Department of Corrections, which is tasked with handling crimes committed at the state level (Allen, 2017). The state where the crime occurred has jurisdiction over the individual that committed the crime. An individual, whom has committed a crime within a state s jurisdiction that results in a long sentence, is sent to the state prison system in that particular state (Allen, 2017). A long sentence encompasses a period of time which exceeds a year, and a day; which is the length of time given to an individual convicted of a felony crime. It is also used to find a certain amount of a chemical in a food. A titration is a way to the concentration of an unknown solution by using a solution with a known concentration. The unknown solution is called an analyte , while the known solution is called the Titrant . The glassware used in order to preform titrations is a buret or burette . A burette is a glass cylinder with a tap on one of the edges. It is used for measuring volumes of liquids, especially in titrations. Standardization (sometimes referred to as standardisation) is a way of putting something or make something into technical standards. Standardization is used when doing a titration since it finds out the exact concentration of a solution that you want to use to find the concentration of the analyte. An equivalence point in a titration is when the moles of the titrant equal the moles of a analyte. One way to find the Equivalence point is through the pH indicator. I will be discussing these in my essay. Like with any social issue, the government and media try to put forward a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It was first used back in the year 1976 when the first Vietnamese immigrants arrived. Since then the providing of transport for refugees is people smuggling , even though Australian law states that it is a legal right to arrive without papers and ask for help (Shepherd 2012). The word smuggling implies that the act is illegal, how can something that is legal for the refugees be illegal for those who give them nothing more than a means of one way transport? Language such as this is used to demonize and de value the immigrants and the people who try to bring them to our country. Furthermore, this kind of language adds to the national ignorance about the issue. Australia is a highly educated country by global standards and is supposed to be well informed about social issues. But when it comes to the issue of demography this is different. Opinion poll questions on attitudes towards immigration provide an indirect confirmation of a widespread ignorance and misunderstanding about demography (Betts 2008). If people are asked about whether they think the present number of immigrants coming to Australia is too many, about right or too few, or don t know the majority of respondents are unable to provide an direct answer. With this type of question that is complex and needs a great understanding of the issue, the answer don t know is never more than 10 % and in most cases much less. However when the question at hand had ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 29. The Pros And Cons Of A Hero Superman, Batman, Ironman, Hulk, Thor, etc. These superheroes were all heroes in the world with a superpower; however, in reality a hero is much more than having an amazing superpower. All people have the potential to become a hero, and the traits and actions that make up a hero are inside each and every one of us. Heroes are all around us in both the modern and past world. These heroes are created in many ways, but it doesn t take a risky moment, or it doesn t take saving the world to be a hero. A hero isn t always the strongest human being that risks their life, a hero is someone who makes a positive impact in someone else s life and overcomes challenges. To begin, Bob Riley said, Hard times don t create heroes. It is during the hard times when the hero within us is revealed. This quote proves how a hero faces hard times, and a hero defeats these obstacles that face him or her. In addition, there are many examples of heroes in the modern world. These unique heroes in the world are regular people like you and me. The only difference is, these unique heroes take an extra step and make a footprint in the world. To make this print, there were, and are many situations and natural disasters in the word that help bring out these heroes. For example, during the 9/11 attacks there were dozens of heroes. People from all different backgrounds became a hero saving others lives or having a positive impact in a random stranger s life. One hero during this troublesome time in ... Rough Draft Paper 2 Rana Sayed English 355:100R Professor Nevius September 24, 2014 Creative Thinking With A Traveling Mindset In Alain de Botton s essay, On Habit and Adam Gopnik essay, Bumping into Mr. Ravioli explain the way that individuals can think creatively and express their feelings and thoughts into newer meaning and in depth ideas. They also explain the way that the human race are so engaged in technology and busyness that they are overlooking what really is important to them in their life. De Botton is worried that many people do not go beyond limitations and need to explore their surrounding more and appreciate what is going on around them. He urges people to use their traveling mindset and try to approach their environments in a positive ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He further explains and says, The crowding of our space has been reinforced of our time, and the only way to protect ourselves is to build structures of perpetual deferral: I ll see you next week, let s talk soon (Gopnik 158). He feels that adults need to deal with the problems in a way to make time for their family and friends. These individuals should not push their problems aside and wait for a later date to deal with the situation and approach the issue with determination to complete the job. Social media activism motivates the individual to help a cause, but there is little sacrifice in creating an impact. The situation may not affect their family and friends so they are not motivated to go further and exceed expectations. Since technology makes adults feel busy, individuals feel overworked and at a sense of hardship because they feel it is not important enough to embrace the assignment at hand. Just as Gopnik stated, de Botton took this applying the behavior of optimistic insight and imposing goal allowing an individual to change their behavior without changing the physical environment. Unfortunately, many individuals lack this tool in approaching environment they are familiar with. Alain de Botton explains that destination is now what fulfills our goals and says, The pleasure we derive from journeys is perhaps dependent more on the mindset in which we travel than on the destination we travel to (de Botton 61). If an individual applies the behavior of an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 31. Analysis Of The Book Watchmen By Dave Gibbons Watchmen written by Alan Moore and illustrated by Dave Gibbons utilizes the literary tool of symbols to connect ideas and themes. Time is a major theme throughout the comic and plays a significant part in the structure and outcome of the story. This theme is successfully coupled to the theme of destiny by the use of the clock and other symbols that are present throughout the comic. Symbols such as clocks, the smiley pin, and the graffiti are utilized to efficiently connect the themes of time, justice and the loss of innocence and morality throughout Watchmen. The combination of all of these themes ultimately allude to Ozymandias decision to unleash chaos on Manhattan by foreshadowing his betrayal and explaining how impossible it is to entrench the peace that he has manufactured by unleashing this chaos. The clocks in Watchmen are used to foreshadow crucial future events and connect the themes of morality and time. Other than the literal connection between calling themselves Watchmen and recurring images of actual watches, doomsday clocks and time in general plays a huge part in the arc of the comic s storyline. This is because of the impending destruction that the world is to face at the hands of Ozymandias. Doctor Manhattan s father was a watchmaker before learning that time is irrelevant and therefore useless. Jon himself finds this out through his own experience with time and seeing back and forth through it. This is particularly important because the whole reason he ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

That is my first thought upon arriving at MacDill Air Force Base, Florida, on March 11, 2010. We stop at a small red roofed gatehouse with a single beamed electric post. The quiet entrance of this base, with its red leafed palms, towering oaks, and rows of citrus trees, set on a 6,000 acre peninsula, has the appearance of an idyllic beach resort. The wooden gatehouse is neither substantial nor imposing. It does not hint of Fortress America nor would it pass the minimum post 9/11 standards of perimeter security. Its diminutive scale is far out of proportion to the consequential institutions on the other side. For me, the disparity is jarring. Small dark lettering at the checkpoint, ...
