Summary Of How Gut Bacteria Make Us Fat By Claudia Wallis
It is no secret that many Americans struggle with obesity. Claudia Wallis wrote an article titled
How Gut Bacteria Help Make Us Fat and Thin just over a year ago, which explores how
intestinal bacteria may determine if a person is obese or thin. New research has indicated that gut
bacteria alters the way we store fat, how we respond to the hormones that make us feel full or
hungry, and the way our glucose levels are balanced. The wrong mix of microbes may lead the way
for a person be obese or diabetic. Research was conducted comparing the intestinal bacteria of obese
and thin people, which showed that microbes in the thin individuals intestines where much more
diverse than that of an obese individuals. Studies showed that thin individuals

Our environment is constantly changing. There is no denying that. However, as our environment
changes, so does the need to become increasingly aware of the problems that surround it. With a

planet is facing.
Global warming has become an undisputed fact about our current livelihoods; our planet is

A Summary Of The Sex Pistols
Julien Temple s documentary, The Filth and the Fury portrays the Sex Pistols as a rebellious
band who generated from the hardships the working class faced in England after the Second
World War. Such hardships included jobs being very difficult to get, especially for working
class teenagers who were looking for their first job. (Anarchy, 123) As a result, everyone was on
the dole. (Temple Chap 1) The working class had little hope was believed by many drawing the
conclusion that they didn t stand a chance. Essentually, if you weren t born into riches you were
doomed. These economic hardships resulted in social chaos, rioting and strikes. (CITE) It
seemed there was little hope of a future in 1975 if you were young and working class. (Anarachy
Pop 124) Therefore, the Sex Pistols formed to propose an alternative social system (youth
domination) and alternative politics that would alter the world s perception of the working class in
both positive and negative lights. (Anarchy pop 124)
The Sex Pistols are a very important starting point in the punk rock revolution and the changed the
movement advocated to happen. Even though they only lasted two years, they never really faded
away. (Dougan, 413) According to Dougan, they are always present, when the words punk rock
are uttered. (413) The Sex Pistols not only instilled a love of punk rock, but also imagined a world
where a crud could become a king. (Dougan, 414 415) Hence, the Sex Pistols advocated for the

What Role Does Fate Play In The Life Of Oedipus
Oedipus the King by Sophocles, emphasizes the role of fate in the world s everyday life, but
specifically in the life of Oedipus. The events that occur in Oedipus the King show how the
relationship between Oedipus and his fate are inseparable. His quest starting with fleeing from his
foretold fate becomes more difficult to digest when his fate catches up to him in his race to
salvation. Through the confabulation between Tiresias and Oedipus, Sophoclescompares fate being
told by Tiresias to Oedipus with the life he is living.
Thinking he had liberated himself from his faith, the contrary establishes when Oedipus unfolds the
mystery of the man who murdered the former King. The riddled words of the oracle unfold when
Oedipus realizes that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Gallup Poll Analysis
In today s world, it has become very beneficial when considering social, political, and economic
issues, as well as other challenges, to gather opinions from people who would be affected by
changes in major issues of society. As a result, many businesses have been formed to conduct
polls concerning these issues, and one such polling organization is known as Gallup Poll. The
Gallup Poll is an assessment of the opinions of the public that gathers samples that are meant to
serve as fair representations of the opinion of the whole society around that mere sample. One
specific version of the Gallup Poll, the Social Series , is meant to assess issues that specifically
deal with society, politics, and the economy. But how is the Social Series carried out, and... Show

Any U.S. citizen who is at least eighteen years of age and is living in any of the fifty U.S. states
is eligible. Using Survey Sampling International, Gallup buys samples and randomly selects
members from households. Furthermore, each sample of these randomly selected adults needs a
minimum percentage of 60% cellphone users and 40% who are still using landlines. Because the
United States is such a large country, Gallup has minimum requirements within each smaller
geographical region, and Gallup decides these based on the time zone that the respondents are
living in. For each Social Series survey, Gallup interviews at least 1,000 people, but for surveys
like the Minority surveys, which need a greater percentage of a certain demographic of people,
Gallup adjusts its percentages of these groups of people in order to fairly represent the opinions of
the people they need to represent. The Gallup Poll Social Series conducts one survey each month,

Continuity Theory Vs Disengagement Theory
This week s discussion included reading about theories of aging and watching the documentary
titled Backing Out of Time. In the following discussion I will compare and contrast two theories
of aging as it relates to the role of caregiver, one thing I learned that I did not know previously, and
what one piece of information will most likely affect my nursing practice. The two theories I have
chosen to compare and contrast are the Disengagement Theory and the Continuity Theory. The
Disengagement Theory is based on the premise that older people will inevitably decline with age,
become less active with the outer world and become engrossed with their inner lives. The
Continuity Theory is based on the hypothesis that personality characteristics become more apparent
with age or remain the same throughout life, people age successfully and maintain roles and adapt...

Both of these theories can influence a care givers role. If a person ages and becomes disengaged
the care giver may have a harder time caring for that person. Or if the care giver believes the
disengagement theory is how people are supposed to age. I feel like some people think that old
people are just supposed become less active and fade into the background. If a care giver treats
an older adult as such they may be destine to follow the path of the disengagement theory. The
continuity theory on the other hand, is what people hope will happen as they age. People want
to remain active and engaged even at an older age. When I was a home health aide, I ran into
many different types of people. As a care giver, the older adult that is active, personable and
outgoing is easier to care for. I am an outgoing and active person and I would always try to get my
home care clients engaged, even if it

Why Is It Always Wrong To Prove Anything Upon Insufficient...
SYNOPSIS In this essay, I will criticize W.K. Clifford s main claim that it is always wrong,
everywhere, and for anyone, to believe anything upon insufficient evidence. I will prove it is not
wrong to form a belief without sufficient evidence, by engaging with ineffability. In the first section,
I will begin by presenting Clifford s main argumentfor why it is always wrong to believe anything
upon insufficient evidence. In the second section, I will define and explain The Representation
Principle. Since Clifford does not clearly define what constitutes sufficient evidence, I will employ
The Representation Principle as one requirement for sufficient evidence. The Representation
Principle states: it is impossible to acquire sufficient evidence if someone is unable to fully
represent all of the relevant information. In the third section, I will present my argument for
refraining from forming beliefs, also referenced as The RFB Argument. I conclude that in some
cases it is wrong for human beings... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Clifford presents a case involving an individual holding a belief upon insufficient evidence. He
describes a ship owner who sincerely believes in the soundness of his ship when he sends it on a
journey, holding a great number of people aboard. However, he acquired his belief in the soundness
of the ship by stifling his doubts about the flaws of the boat, rather than by honestly seeking the
truth. Clifford claims the ship owner is wrong in holding his belief, since he did not form his
belief on sufficient evidence. Regardless of the outcome of the ship s journey, the ship owner
believed wrongly. Clifford s argument can be presented as follows: 1. In the ship owner case, the
ship owner believed wrongly. 2. If the ship owner believed wrongly, then it is always wrong,
everywhere, and for anyone, to believe anything upon insufficient evidence. C. So, It is always
wrong, everywhere, and for anyone, to believe anything upon insufficient

Why I Was Surprised When Octavie Was Still Alive
I was very surprised with the end to The Locket. In no way did I think that Edmond was still

when I read that he had past, and the locket was returned to Octavie I was shocked. Made
precious as material things sometimes are by being forever identified with a significant moment
of one s existence. This quote is very sad because Octavie is remembering what she had with
Edmond and the fact that she will have to go through life with just memories of their time
together, instead of making more memories is upsetting to her. It wasn t until she was with Judge
Pillier when it was a little strange that he wasn t as upset to lose his son, as

The Vision Of Empire Held By Wilberforce And The Clapham Sect
Analyse the vision of Empire held by Wilberforce and the Clapham Sect.
During Wilberforce s lifetime the British Empire expanded and proceed to be the dominant force
in the world as an economic, military and political power. At its height it was the largest empire
in history and for over a century was the world s foremost power. A power such as this had a
considerable bearing on the people which habituated and worked to serve the power behind it as
both MPs and people of significant social standing amongst its population as the elite. Therefore
this essay will evaluate the vision of the Empire held Wilberforce and his contemporaries in the
Clapham Sect.
The Clapham Sect was a group of Evangelical Christians who resided near Clapham and formed a
strong community amongst one another. The group was ardently committed to Practical
Christianity and abolishing slavery. This is summarised succinctly by Together, this Clapham
fellowship sought to make the British Empire an instrument of social and moral welfare to all
people. This commonly held view shows that the Clapham Sect knew the magnitude and the
significance the British Empire held and could use this as a platform to project their christian ideals
onto people who in their eyes were worse off for not conforming to these ideals. The Empire was
seen as something that could enlighten through Christianity, however it brought violence through

How Neoliberalism Has Changed The World
This essay aims to identify how neoliberalism has changed the way we do business in particular
managerial strategies to maintain competiveness and adapt to changing market conditions. Firstly, I
will briefly explain the term neoliberalism and how it has affected the world. Secondly, I will
explain how neoliberalismhas influenced managers and their strategic reforms. Thirdly, I will
further explain the importance of strategizing and planning in regards to managers in today s
market. Finally, the conclusion will summarise the preceding points of the essay aimed to argue
that neoliberalism has changed the world including the way managers strategize and think in today
s economy.
The term Neoliberalism was introduced around the 1990 s which was perceived to be the future for
a free market economy. Essentially it originated from the idea that an economy would work more
efficiently in the hands of the private sector. At the time there were many anti neoliberalism and
anti globalisation activists protesting governments against free markets fearing foreign threat in
regards to the country s factor endowments (Davies 2014, p. 309).
The concept behind Neoliberalism is that the global market and its resources are shared equally, in
other words becoming a free market economy where government does not intervene, creating more
innovation consequently affecting trade and globalisation (Styhre 2014, p. 270). The reality of the
story today is far from what is was set out to be,

It was fate and a bit of luck that cast William Frawley and Vivian Vance in the colorful supporting
roles of Fred and Ethel Mertz. After they were cast, it was discovered that both had musical and
dancing talent from vaudeville, which opened doors in script writing to incorporate these talents.
The four co stars had an innate ability to evoke laughter; behind the set a bulletin board listed the

number of times funny, off camera ad libs were made (William Frawley always won.)

Archetypes In Middle Class
Throughout these past few years the people in my high school class, including myself, have begun
to change and develop into who we are today. Each person changes, in and out of certain
personalities or archetypes, at their own pace. However, it appears as though each classmate, at one
point or another, has gone through each of these three archetypes: the innocent, the everyman, and
the wanderer. The archetype that had typically shown up first was the innocent. As I recall, the
innocent type personality had shown up when we were young, perhaps in the early grades in
elementary school. The innocent would describe an individual who wants to simply be happy and

From experience, it seems as though the everyman doesn t really know who they are and what
they want to be. So, as a result of being so undefined, one will try to define themselves as what
everybody else seems to be; basically becoming one of the crowd. Giving this a specific age to
associate this with, the age would have to be a pre teen or late elementary and early middle school.
The awkward stages of the twelve and thirteen year old girl that was Kayla were particularly callous
and unsympathetic. This stage for my class was simply about fitting into a cruel and judgmental
group of people. As a result, instead of celebrating and admiring our differences, any particular
individual would bury the uniqueness within themselves and mask their own personality with the
one that was accepted. Then, by becoming the accepted, my classmates and I had become the
everyman. Thankfully, though, the harsh unforgiving environment of middle school would
transition into the inviting and extraordinary place that is high school; where differences are
celebrated by the upperclassman which blazes the trail for the underclassman to follow. The
transition into high school was typically the time where my class and I had, for the most part,
discarded the everyman archetype for at least a short while, and became

Feudalism And The Feudal System
Knights and kings are the first thing that many people think of regarding medieval times.
However, the system was quite different and was called feudalism. Feudalism was a system that
helped the king keep control of his kingdom and be able to protect his country. The feudal system
was divided into four levels, and began around 900 A.D. and ended around 1400 A.D. Feudalism
began in England when the Romans, who were in control of the people, left and the country
became unstable. The Germanic tribes who inhabited the territory were constantly having civil
wars, and had many problems. To solve that problem, and to develop a system of to defend their
country, they developed feudalism as a form of government (Britton). Feudalism was a socio
political hierarchy that had four different ranks. This was a very simplistic and logical form of
government (Bishop 95). It was a fairly weak form of government because it was mainly
established by trust in between the kings and the barons (Bishop 97). Feudalism was prominent in
Europe for many years, and it ended around 1400 A.D. due to kings becoming more powerful. The
kings were able to protect themselves without having barons because of the technology of guns.
Also, the printing machine and better education made it easier for the king to manage his land
without the barons and knights. The Black Death in the mid 14th century also played a big role in
the fall of feudalism because many of the serfs died, making it harder for the knights

The Pullman Strike Of 1894
The Pullman Strike of 1894 On May 11th, 1894, one of the most violent labor strikes in American
history took place in Pullman, Illinois. This labor strike, initiated by the American Railway Union
(ARU) and led by Eugene Debs against the extremely wealthy and powerful George Pullman and
his company, the Pullman Palace Car Company. This strike became a turning point in the national
battle regarding U.S. labor laws, and was instrumental in the regulation of corporations by the
government. The event that would eventually give birth to Labor Day took months of riots,
struggles, and ultimately, violence. It showed America how important the lives and wellbeing of
American workers was, and helped the nation recognize the rights that employees... Show more

passed away in 1897 after suffering a heart attack, and his memory lives forever in history books
as the man responsible for the greatest and most far reaching of any strike on record in this
country, (11 Carwardine). Pullman was known in his town as many things; powerful, intelligent,
innovative but he was also considered to be a terrible person. He was praised for creating a vast
productive industry and the creation of the Pullman Palace Car idea. However, as Carwardine
recalls, the very qualities that made him [Pullman] successful in life, have, untempered with nobler
elements, placed him in his predicament with the American public. Determination and resolution
have turned into arrogance and obstinacy, (28 Carwardine). He was an arrogant man, and if his
attitude was different, perhaps the Strike of the 1890s could have been prevented. The Pullman
Strike happened in what s considered a perfect storm, where all the circumstances kept aggravating
the situation. A major part of this storm was the Panic of 1893, an economic depression that lasted
from 1893 to 1897. It began after the failure of two of the nation s major employers, the
Philadelphia and Reading Railroad and the National Cordage Companies. Suddenly banks, steel
mills, and railroads started going bankrupt. An

Turbo Code is Formed from the Parallel Concatenation of...
The first turbo code, based on convolutional encoding, was introduced in 1993 by Berrou etal.
Since then, several schemes have been proposed and the term turbo codes has been generalized
to cover block codes as well as convolutional codes. Simply put, a turbo code is formed from the
parallel concatenation of two codes separated by an interleaver. The turbo principle is a general
way of processing data in receivers so that no information is wasted. This technique corresponds to
an iterative exchange of soft information between different blocks in a communications receiver in
order to improve overall system performance. It has opened up a new way of thinking in the
construction of communication algorithms. This method was introduced in a system of error
control for data transmission, called turbo code. This family of Forward Error Codes (FEC) consists
of two key design innovations: concatenated encoding and iterative decoding.
The turbo principle has been extended into new receiver topologies such as turbo detection, turbo
equalization, turbo coded modulation, turbo MIMO, etc. In the case of transmission systems with
interference, such an iterative receiver, known as turbo equalizer or turbo detector achieves
significant gains in BER performance, compared with a non iterative scheme. However, the design
of high throughput, low complexity and low latency architectures for a receiver that contains an
iterative process is a great challenge.

Getting into a Fraternity or Sorority
College is something everyone dreams about while in high school. It may seem fun and
exciting, but there is a tremendous number of mistakes that can happen. For instance, imagine
someone has just been accepted into college, and it is her first day. She thought it was a dream
to be in a sorority, but in reality it was a nightmare. After a week, she knows Hell Week is
coming, but she wants shake everything off, and think everything is going well and the other
members will accept her with no hesitation. Today is a lazy day, and she is just sitting in her dorm

do not have the laws. As some people think, hazing is a great thing, and it puts people through a
great experience to go through. Since hazing can endanger the physical safety of a person, and
produces mental, physical discomfort, and causes dismay, humiliation, and dehumanizes an
individual, society needs to learn about hazing and stop it from happening. We know that people
consider it a tradition that has been going on for ages, but it s an appalling experience to go

about it. The earliest recorded event of hazing occurred in eighteen thirty eight. The first recorded
death happened in eighteen forty eight. (Hank). So you can see why some may consider it a
tradition. Many hazing incidents do not just involve members of a certain group, but sometimes it
can also include the coach or who is in charge of the group. Twenty two percent of coaches or
advisors are involved in hazing towards the athlete or student. Many of the coaches and advisors

Impact of Global Warming on Coastal Wetlands Essay
Impact of Global Warming on Coastal Wetlands
Professor s comment: Jane wrote this research paper for my Advanced Composition course. The
assignment asks the students to read and understand six to ten articles within a research area of
their choice, then synthesize the information so that a reader can quickly understand the present
state of research in that area. Jane chose to look at how increased flooding and salinity might affect
coastal wetland soils and species, and she organized the material clearly and effectively. What I
liked particularly about this review was that it moved logically from the effects of flooding and
salinity on wetland soils to the effects on the plants growing there to the overall effects on the

Additionally, Ehhas been shown to decrease even further when soils are flooded with increased
salinity levels (Baldwin and Mendelssohn, 1998; Flynn et al., 1995). Under these conditions, the soil
medium becomes highly reducing and can affect wetland vegetation in two ways. First, and
probably most significant, is the reduction of sulfate (present in seawater) to hydrogen sulfide, a
known phytotoxin that has been shown to reduce wetland vegetation growth and/or survival at
higher concentrations (Flynn et al., 1995). Secondly, highly reducing conditions can interfere with
a plant s ability to uptake nitrogen by altering its form and availability in the soil (Webb et al.,
1995).
Other problems created by high salinity soil conditions include the change in water potential
necessary for the plant to overcome the elevated salt concentration in the soil, and the possibility of
toxicity due to uptake of Na+ and Cl ions (Flynn et al., 1995).
Physiological Responses of Wetland Plants due to Increased Flooding and Salinity
Although tolerance to increased flooding and salinity conditions varies somewhat by species,
wetland species that survive these heightened conditions demonstrate either some or all of the
following characteristics: lowered photosynthetic activity,

Essay about Japanese School Systems vs. American
Japanese School Systems vs. American
For years, people have always felt that the Japanese school system was superior or more effective
than that of the United States. Although some feel this way, others feel that the Japanese system is
too strict and not flexible enough for those who may need extra help along the way. Through
researching two different case studies, and also reading other materials, I have found many
similarities along with many differences between the two, including teaching methods, overall
emphases, and student involvement. Both countries have developed very effective and intricate
systems of teaching, which compliment, and clash against one another. The Japanesesystem is not

As a result of this, the system is constantly receiving criticism concerning the quality of the
American system. (U.S.D.E. The Educational System in the U.S...) In fact, a recent study done by
the National Institute on Student Achievement, Curriculum, and Assessment, states that in fourth
grade math, Japan ranks third out of twenty six countries while the U.S. ranks only twelfth, and that
in eighth grade math, Japan keeps the ranking of third out of forty one, while the U.S. drops to
twenty eighth. As result of these criticisms, sets of voluntary guidelines and standard achievement
tests have recently been introduced as an effort to catch up to the other

countries of the world. National standards in math, science, and history have all been published,
and have influenced many different states, and their schools, to change and somewhat conform
curriculum. These standards are designed to promote the improvement of school standards, make
school districts more equal, and make it easier to see where we are as a country in regards to
education of young people. Some, however, feel that these national standards, though voluntary,
may bring schools which are already thriving down to the minimum level suggested. They also fear
that these standards will allow local governments to become lazy in funding and in concern for the
schools. Regardless

Attend Service At Two Different Jewish Churches Essay
I chose to attend service at two different Jewish churches. The first one was Congregation Gesher
L Torah in Alpharetta, Georgia and the second was Congregation Beth Hallel in Roswell, Georgia.
Though both were of the Judaism religion, there were some differences. I attended a Friday night
service at Congregation Gesher L Torah. My apprehensions about being black and going to a
Jewish church made me invite a friend to go with me. I was glad I did, as the stares and long looks
we got during the service validated my concerns.
The church was rather small, but quite modern. There was a small playground in the back for
children to play. All of the windows were made of beautiful stained glass. As we approached the
church, we could see the Star of David positioned high in a large stained glass window. We
spoke to a lady who was exiting the church as we were coming in, but she said nothing. Once
inside, a man who was ushering came over to us and said, Shabbat Shalom . I had been greeted
with Shalom many time before at my old church, but never Shabbat Shalom . I didn t know what
was appropriate to say, but somehow Shalom came spilling out of my mouth, and the usher
nodded. He gave us two books, Siddur Sim Shalom (a prayer book) and Gesher L Tefillah (another
prayer book). My friend and I found it hard to follow the prayers and songs from each book because
most of the text was in Hebrew and the Siddur Sim Shalom opened and was to be read from the
back of the book with the pages

Eleven By Sandra Cisneros Summary
Have you ever been embarrassed? Well if you have then you can probably relate to how Rachel
feels. In the story Eleven by Sandra Cisneros, the main character, Rachel, is insecure at school.
She is insecure because she thinks negatively about other people and other things, also that she
is insecure because she is very emotional. One way that Rachel is insecure is that she is always
thinking negative about about things and other people in her class. For instance, in the part of
Eleven when Mrs. Price tells she to put the sweater on and she does I put one arm through the
sleeve of the sweater that smells like cottage cheese, and then the other arm through and the
other and then stand there with my arms apart like if the sweater hurts me . As you can see all
Rachel can think about the sweater is how ugly and smelly it is. To add on to that, she sounds
like she is judging Sylvia, the one that said earlier in the story when Mrs. Price asks whos the
sweater is and nobody claims it I think it belongs to Rachel and the teacher believes her. Towards
the end of the story, Rachel says that she dumb and stupid.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Disadvantages Of Weed Infestation
Weed infestation has been known to cause substantial reductions in crop yields thereby obstructing
sustainable agriculture (Ayeni et al., 2013). Weed competition was identified by Mbanje et al.
(2001) as the most important factor for yield reduction in both commercial and communal farming
in Zimbabwe. Weeds threat had forced farmers to use synthetic herbicides which have detrimental
effects on the environment. Synthetic herbicides are also expensive and are not readily available
for communal farmers use. Chemical and mechanical weed management reduce profitability in crop
production since these methods are expensive. Recent efforts are being intensified on finding
alternative strategies for weed management. The need for safe food production has developed
steadily over the years as a result of consciousness about food quality and environmental concerns
regarding agrochemicals used in agriculture. Such efforts include the use of allelochemicals which
are believed to be much safer than synthetic herbicides. Crops/plants release chemicals i.e
allelochemicals which could be utilized for... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Little Women, By Louisa May Alcott
Louisa May Alcott was born and raised in Massachusetts from a financially struggling family,
which will soon change due to Louisa s writing talents. Louisa was homeschooled the majority of
her childhood, which sparked her writing career. Many of her life experiences influenced her
writing but the main one, that got her started, was her father, Amos Bronson Alcott, a philosopher
and teacher. As she grew older, she befriended abolitionists, she soon becomes a part of, which
greatly influence her later works. Alcott s most famous work, Little Women, was published in
1868, and was read by many young girls even today. Evolving from a struggling family to a world
renowned author, Louisa May Alcottinspired her era and eras beyond by her writing talents in her
some of her works such as My Contraband, Little Women, and Jo s Boys (Boston Women s

short experience as a nurse during the Civil War was. This short story is obviously going to be
very alluring to people during that time because they wanted, and liked, to know what was going
on in the Civil War. Also, Alcott has the special writing talent of imagery and showing women
strength to be able to effectively connect with her audience. It is still very popular due to this
presence of strong, inspirational women and spiritual righteousness. First off, it is narrated by Faith

The Realm Of Collegiate Athletics
The realm of collegiate athletics is made up of participants that hail from all walks of life. In many
instances the athletic programs that make up the university can be considered the most diverse
group on campus. The will to win largely attracts participants from every conceivable ethnic and
demographic background. The diversity and racial composition of athletic programs can provide
opportunities for athletes to learn about people who are different than themselves, help improve
interracial understanding, and help reduce prejudice among groups. Although diversity among
student athletes is a favorable goal, it is important that the coaches, athletic counselors, or anyone
working with student athletes have practices and procedures in place to immerse athletes within the
culture of collegiate athletics. The ability to succeed will be determined by the athlete and the
programs ability to function within a multilevel system that includes knowledge of the NCAA rules
and regulations, university policies, athletic department standards, and team dynamics (Fletcher,
2003). While there are many opportunities for student athletes to gain a cross racial understanding
from participating in team sports such as basketball, football, and track and field there can be
differences in racial diversity among sports. For instance, white college athletes comprise 68.3% of
the national populations in intercollegiate athletics at all levels (NCAA Division I, II, and III)
(NCAA, 2014). In the

INTRODUCTION
Scientifically, why is the study of Alu insertions interesting? (10 pts) Alu insertions are biological
tools that can trace human history, evolution, and migration. In particular, Alu is often used to
understand prehistory because all primates (including humans) with Alu insertions at specific
locations can be traced to common ancestors [3].
Alu is sometimes referred to as a jumping gene because it copies itself to shift to new locations.
While it is technically not a gene, the way Alu insertions are inherited (i.e. passed down from
parents to offspring) is much like that of a gene. It is not a gene, however, because Alu does not
code for any protein. It ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Batzer and Deininger (2002) even mention that Alu insertions account for ~0.1% of all human
genetic disorders (p. 374) including some forms of cancer and diabetes. Alu, then, allows
researchers to create a biological map of human activity.
What are the objectives of this lab? (5 pts) Using polymerase chain reaction (PRC), this lab focuses
on the amplification of DNA extracted from cheek cells. The experiment aims to discover the
presence or absence of the human Alu insertion in the PV92 locus on chromosome 16. It aims to
enable the students to understand how PCR works, and how it is used to understand DNA fragments.
Another objective of this lab is to understand the implications of Alu insertions in human evolution,
and to examine some of the genomic variations within the human species using a sample population
in the laboratory. METHODS

Ansel Adams Photographer and Artist Essay example
Ansel Adams photographer and artist
Until the 19th century most artwork was created in a two or three dimensional media. In
England, William Fox discovered a technique that allowed camera images to be captured on
paper. This medium has evolved since Fox s discovery in 1839 to a serious and viable form of art
today. Photography allows the artist to capture what he sees. The image produced is reality to the
artists eye, it can only be manipulated with light and angles.
The photograph is a very powerful medium. The French painter Paul Delaroche exclaimed upon

spent his time in National parks photographing the immense beauty of nature in these national

Adams formed a group with other San Francisco photographers in 1932 called f/64, referring to the
smallest aperture opening on a camera lens (Gray, 1994). The group concentrated on form and
texture. The group translated scale and detail into organic, sometimes abstract design (Jacobs, 1995).
In 1935, Adams published his first book, Making a Photograph. Six years later, his Zone System
was formulated. The Zone System introduced a way for the professional and amateur photographers
to determine and control the exposure and development of prints for maximum visual acuity
(Jacobs, 1995). The Zone System marked his first efforts at public education on photography.

Examples Of Love At First Sight In Romeo And Juliet
Love at first sight does not exist. Romeo and Juliet is a tragedy that starts with love at first sight.
Shakespeare developed two ignorant, naГЇve, stubborn, narrow minded, teenaged characters that

temptation in which they were led were when Romeo was persuaded to go to a party without an

The Pros And Cons Of Tragedy Donation
Introduction A charitable donation refers to a gift made by an organization or an individual to a
private foundation, charity or non profit organization. The U.S has allowed deduction on income
tax to individual and corporate donors for their charitable donations since 1917 (Colinvaux Dale,
2015). Often, these donations represent the main source of funding for most of the nonprofit and
charitable organizations. In most countries, a charitable donation made to any of the qualifying
organization entitles one to an income taxdeduction. Organizations that do not qualify as charitable
are considered for profit and are taxed accordingly to that effect. The Charitable Contributions
Deduction entitles taxpayers to a tax deduction for the financial year in which they made their
donations. The aim of this essay is to compare between the taxationof donations made to a
charitable organizationby a corporation and that made by an individual.
Comparison of charitable contributions by a corporation versus and individual Individual
shareholders in a private company should compare whether they will realize higher tax benefits by
personally donating to charitable organizations or by donating through their corporation. A
corporation qualifies for similar charitable deductions that apply to individuals (Bank, 2017). The
general rule for allowance of deduction for individual and corporate charitable donations is that any

Choosing A Baby Is A Big Decision For Most People
Deciding to have a baby is a big decision for most people. This decision does not stop at whether
or not to have a baby, but continues on with the decision of where, how, and with whom to have
their baby. There are many options to consider when making this decision. Unfortunately, many
people are unaware that the traditional method of going to an OB/GYN is not their only option.
No matter what insurance provider a person has, there is always the option of going to a CNM for
pre and post natal care.
Research
According to statistics, 85% of women will require maternity care at least once in their lifetime
(Truven Health Analytics, 2013). On average, four million women in the United States give birth

One third of U.S. births are C sections (ACNM, 2013). Most states, thirty three out of fifty, require
private insurers to cover CNM services and Medicaid requires all states to provide coverage
(Edwidge, 2013).
Births attended by Birth Connections take place in hospital in the Labor and Delivery suites at Self
Regional Healthcare. Birth Connections operates in accordance with the American College of
Nurse midwives, the ACNM, and supports their goal of providing women with a safe, positive
childbirth experience. They advocate a low technology approach to labor that includes intermittent
auscultation of fetal heart sounds instead of continuous monitoring, non pharmacological methods
for pain relief, and freedom of movement of the mother during labor. Births attended by Lexington
Women s Care s OB/GYN s take place in hospital at Lexington Medical Center in private labor and
delivery suites. They use the traditional method of fetal monitoring, IV antibiotics and Oxytocin (if
necessary), periodic physical examination, and manually rupturing the amniotic sac (if necessary)
to encourage labor and delivery to progress more quickly. Although this is the traditional method,
there are other options such as having a doula present for labor support or refusing pain medication
in order to experience a more natural birthing process. Both methods of care have their perks, such

Pipeline Essay
On October 17, I attended a presentation at the 28th annual Consider the Century forum. During
my time there, I took part in learning about and discussing what is going on at Standing Rock. We
first watched a news video about what is happening at Standing Rock and then we had a discussion
about what we learned and what we think motivates each side to either promote or protest the
pipeline. Before this presentation, I had heard about the pipeline being planned to be put on the
Standing Rock Reservation, but I did not know much after that. Through this discussion, I learned
so much more. The Dakota Access Pipeline is being built by Energy Transfer Partners in order to
transport oil from northwest North Dakotato southern Illinois. The pipeline... Show more content on

Religion is a key part of the lives of Sioux people. They believe everything has a spirit, therefore,
their land has a spirit that should not be broken. The Sioux people have lived off of the land
through the vegetation and hunting game. By bulldozing and violating their land, the
government is tearing apart their lives and their spirits. The land and the spirits are incredibly
sacred that when death comes, the spirits are allowed to go on to a spirit world. During death,
the tribe members mourn the deceased heavily and bury them in the earth, under rocks or trees,
and sometimes leave them out in the case of fallen warriors. Along with the bodies being sacred,
the deceased s belongings are also sacred and are usually buried with the body to help their
journey to the spirit world. Many government officials are unaware of the practices of the Sioux
people. This ignorance leads to the belief that since we do not know it is wrong, it is not wrong. As
a result, the construction and digging up of land is ruining the burial sites of Sioux people from
hundreds of years ago. After this forum and searching for more knowledge about the pipeline
construction through the Standing Rock Indian Reservation, I understand more clearly the
importance that the land is to the people who inhabited

The Role Of Nurse Generalist As An Advocate, Delegator,...
The roles of the nurse generalist as an advocate, delegator, and life long learner
Myunghee Jung
Fairmont State University December 11, 2015
There are many professional roles of the nurse generalist that are essential in providing care to
patients, such as an advocate, educator, collaborator, and change agent and so on. In every day
nursing practice, nurses perform a variety of nursing roles. Meeting role expectations as a
professional nurse is for patient centered care, which is one of the IOM core competencies. The
purpose of this paper is to identify nurse generalist roles as an advocate, communicator, and life
long learner to implement IOM core competencies; 1)provide patient centered care, 2) work in
interprofessional teams, 3) employ evidence based practice, 4) apply quality improvement, 5)
utilize informatics (Finkelman, 2016, p. 50 51). This paper will also deal with what I have felt
in my nursing career in performing the nursing roles. According to Tomajan, the role of an
advocate is to work on behalf of self and/or others to raise awareness of a concern and to promote
solutions to the issue (Tomajan, 2012, para 5). Acting as a patient advocate plays an important role
in providing patient centered care. In this role, nurses should be aware of patients vulnerability and
pay much attention to their individual values and preferences in receiving care. However, in reality,
it is challenging for nurses to focus exclusively on patients needs and

Carbon Footprint And Its Effects On Global Warming
Carbon Footprint Our carbon footprint is an estimation of the anthropogenic impact that we have
on the environment. What it shows is the impact our every day decisions have in releasing green
house gases into the atmosphere. Our individual carbon footprint adds up with the other 7 billion
people in the world, and it becomes crystal clear that we are exploiting our resources. Each and
every single person s carbon footprint has an effect on global warming. It impacts not only humans
but also our habitats, animals, and the millions of other organisms that call this earth their
home. I have been working with the Oregon Zoo for the past 3 years teaching kids about their
carbon footprint, and conservation so the results were not completely shocking to me. I was
aware that the world, especially the United States has an enormous carbon footprint. However, I
was definintly not aware that my personal carbon footprint is as big as it is. Out of the three
calculators that I used, the one on earthday.org was without a doubt my personal favorite. It was
interactive, and was very simple to complete. It also had more specific questions, for example
rather than asking how much meat I consume in general it separated it into groups of different
types of meat such as pork, fish, poultry, beef, etc. Something that it did that the other calculators
did not do is dress how much of the household energy comes from renewable energy. I also really
liked how it displayed the results. It showed

Essay On Black Girl
Film is a series of artistic moving images that make up a story. In every film, the director visually
presents the storyline, different characters, the problems they encounter and how they were deal
with. There is a wide range of ways to study films of various genres. We focus on film language,
genre, mise en scene, representation, stereotypes, etc. In Black Girl, it was depicted as an allegory
and had a lot of mise en scene.
Some examples of mise en scene in Black Girl includes the mask, clothing and objects in the
Dakar and France homes. The mask is a very powerful symbol because it represents Diouana. In
the beginning of the film, Diouana was living happily with her boyfriend and had no troubles. She
wanted to seek for employment and was hired by a French couple to care for their children. When

Back in the 1900s, France colonized many countries. Senegal is one of those countries that France
controlled. The foreign government of France controlling Senegal is similar to the French
couple deciding everything for Diouana. An example is when the French couple receives a
letter from Diouana s mother and responds to the letter by writing what they want. The French
couple holds a dominant position in the household and does not allow Diouana to voice her
opinion. At first, Diouana was excited to go to France with the French couple because she
imagined how her life would change, but she was fooled. Diouana misunderstood that she would
continue to care for the children, but she was treated like a slave. It is like Diouana fell for the
trap because she had to do labor on a daily basis. Diouana had a low social status, accused of
many things and treated poorly. After a while, Diouana could not stand being mistreated all the time
which ultimately led to her committing suicide. The director of Black Girl wanted to tell the
audience that Diouana suffered a lot ever since she started working in

A supply chain for the electric fans The Supply Chain Management process is at the very center of
all the core operational processes of a company. It plays the role of a central nervous system
regulating the product flow by managing the associated information flow that runs through a
company. It has very strong linkages with major core processes like product development
management, purchasing management and customer relationship management. For instance, the
linkage between the Riordian Electric fan development management process and the Supply Chain
Management process is bi directional: on one side, the product development process feeds the
Supply Chain Management process with the electric fans introduction plans and engineering
change notices on bill of materials and routings, while in return the Supply Chain Management
process provides the product development process with the supply chain constraints that need to be
considered when scheduling the development of fans, in order to make sure that these products will
hit the market at the right time. It will provide the Riordan Manufacturing an edge in the market
over other rival companies. (Chase, 2006). Outsourcing is one of the approach to offshoot the
responsibility and decision criteria to other companies which can take care of the several
components of the supply chain. The inventory management process can reduce the cost of

is to condition your brain to ask better questions. The example he gave a scenario that there was

brain would be able to think Okay, I have 3 weeks I know it s a lot but what can I do each day so
I can turn this paper in on time. He also said once you start asking yourself better questions you
get better results. It s the little things from workshops that change the way you see and think
about things, and that s what I m hoping I will be able to get from attending all the workshops,
because ever since I ve started trying to condition my brain I ve noticed that I m less worried

Daisy Miller Essay
Daisy Miller by Henry James, is a study of a young American girl s rebuttal of all things properВќ
and refusal to conform to social standards. One can see that realism is apparent throughout the text.
The characters utilize free will throughout, are affected by their environment and familial
relationships, and ultimately make their own choices. These choices eventually affect the outcome
in an unhappy ending. Jame s creates characters that encompass both sides of the social sphere in
this work. Winterbourne, Mrs. Costello and Mrs. Walker are all individuals that come from old
money, a higher societal background, and expectations of what is deemed right and proper. In
contrast, Daisy Miller, Mrs. Miller, Randolph and Eugenio are the opposite in many ways coming
from an average societal realm and more realistic, modest lifestyle. Winterbourne has a rather
telling conversation with Mrs. Walker and her statement to him upon asking what exactly it is that
Daisy does that pushes too far Вќ sums up the overall reputation Daisy is establishing for herself.
(she does) Everything that is not done here. Flirting with any manshe could pick up; sitting in
corners with mysterious Italians; dancing all the evening with the same partners; receiving visits
at eleven o clock at night (James, p. 1537). Daisy s ability to make her own choices and follow her
free willare aspects of realismwhich writers began to utilize. Again, her environment and family
most definitely affect her behavior.

Jurassic Park Genetic Modification
Genetic modification is studied in order to gain a better understanding of humans and the pursuit
of knowledge. This is done in hope to make connections between genetics and everyday life.
Movies represent this concept in differing ways and with varying levels of truth, as can be seen in
the coming paper. The films Jurassic Park and Gattaca both have their own takes on what genetic
modification looks like, so their basis of genetic modification will be put under scrutiny and
compared with the reality of today and the future.
In the movie Jurassic Park, several assumptions are made about genetic modification, some of
which are close to reality and others that are far away from it. The premise of the movie is that
dinosaurs were able to be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Much as Jurassic Park is based in soft sci fi, so is Gattaca. Gattaca has a strong focus on the
negative aspects of genetic modification. The story makes some serious assumptions about the
impact of these changes, but first it should be looked at just how practical this is to society. The
portrait of genetics in the movie is significantly more advanced than what is available today. Since
the movie was released, the human genome has been mapped out, but there is a large gap between
having the standard genetics of a human and being able to change a baby s purity almost
instantaneously.
The ability to splice genes successfully also have some serious shortcomings currently. In 2015,
Group SEA became the first group to genetically modify human embryos. They attempted to edit
the genetics of the embryos in order to cure their disease, a fatal blood disorder. In their
experiments, only 71 of the 89 embryos survived and only 28 successfully accepted the genetics,
with not all of them being accepted in the correct places (ResearchSEA). This shows just how far
off humanity is from having the power to edit human genetics to the point shown in the film. This
research was done on non viable embryos, as to not create an ethical

Economic Development Office For The State Of Texas
The summer of 2014, I interned at the Economic Development Office for the state of Texas. The
office was tasked with preparing relocation incentives for companies in order to create jobs. The
office was split into different departments totaling about 45 people. The office worked strictly under
the Governor. One would answer the phone, Office of the Governor, Economic Development...
Economic Development offices around the country came under repetitive criticism for behaving
as governors slush funds. Essentially there are clear lines of imperative control from superior
offices. The office was responsible for overseeing the economic development of the whole state.
In other ways, the office directly contrasted Weber s definition. Since the office was able to
distribute funds and abate taxes, it made incredible financial decisions for companies and the
taxpayers of the state. Awards could not be given out based on a specific set of rules. There was
careful consideration into a companies intentions, how they were prepared for the future, and if
they fit the new model of businesses Texas wanted to attract. In this regard, the office did not
always make systematic decisions. Those promoted were the best performing, most ambitious, and
took initiative; only residue of a seniority system remained. A meritocracy, in direct opposition to a
tenured hierarchy, opened a dichotomy between the older and younger generations. Under
performers were let go regardless of tenure. On a

  • 5. A Summary Of The Sex Pistols Julien Temple s documentary, The Filth and the Fury portrays the Sex Pistols as a rebellious band who generated from the hardships the working class faced in England after the Second World War. Such hardships included jobs being very difficult to get, especially for working class teenagers who were looking for their first job. (Anarchy, 123) As a result, everyone was on the dole. (Temple Chap 1) The working class had little hope was believed by many drawing the conclusion that they didn t stand a chance. Essentually, if you weren t born into riches you were doomed. These economic hardships resulted in social chaos, rioting and strikes. (CITE) It seemed there was little hope of a future in 1975 if you were young and working class. (Anarachy Pop 124) Therefore, the Sex Pistols formed to propose an alternative social system (youth domination) and alternative politics that would alter the world s perception of the working class in both positive and negative lights. (Anarchy pop 124) The Sex Pistols are a very important starting point in the punk rock revolution and the changed the movement advocated to happen. Even though they only lasted two years, they never really faded away. (Dougan, 413) According to Dougan, they are always present, when the words punk rock are uttered. (413) The Sex Pistols not only instilled a love of punk rock, but also imagined a world where a crud could become a king. (Dougan, 414 415) Hence, the Sex Pistols advocated for the English ... • 7. What Role Does Fate Play In The Life Of Oedipus Oedipus the King by Sophocles, emphasizes the role of fate in the world s everyday life, but specifically in the life of Oedipus. The events that occur in Oedipus the King show how the relationship between Oedipus and his fate are inseparable. His quest starting with fleeing from his foretold fate becomes more difficult to digest when his fate catches up to him in his race to salvation. Through the confabulation between Tiresias and Oedipus, Sophoclescompares fate being told by Tiresias to Oedipus with the life he is living. Thinking he had liberated himself from his faith, the contrary establishes when Oedipus unfolds the mystery of the man who murdered the former King. The riddled words of the oracle unfold when Oedipus realizes that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 8. Gallup Poll Analysis In today s world, it has become very beneficial when considering social, political, and economic issues, as well as other challenges, to gather opinions from people who would be affected by changes in major issues of society. As a result, many businesses have been formed to conduct polls concerning these issues, and one such polling organization is known as Gallup Poll. The Gallup Poll is an assessment of the opinions of the public that gathers samples that are meant to serve as fair representations of the opinion of the whole society around that mere sample. Because the United States is such a large country, Gallup has minimum requirements within each smaller geographical region, and Gallup decides these based on the time zone that the respondents are living in. For each Social Series survey, Gallup interviews at least 1,000 people, but for surveys like the Minority surveys, which need a greater percentage of a certain demographic of people, Gallup adjusts its percentages of these groups of people in order to fairly represent the opinions of the people they need to represent. • 9. Continuity Theory Vs Disengagement Theory This week s discussion included reading about theories of aging and watching the documentary titled Backing Out of Time. In the following discussion I will compare and contrast two theories of aging as it relates to the role of caregiver, one thing I learned that I did not know previously, and what one piece of information will most likely affect my nursing practice. The two theories I have chosen to compare and contrast are the Disengagement Theory and the Continuity Theory. The Disengagement Theory is based on the premise that older people will inevitably decline with age, become less active with the outer world and become engrossed with their inner lives. The Continuity Theory is based on the hypothesis that personality characteristics become more apparent with age or remain the same throughout life, people age successfully and maintain roles and adapt... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Both of these theories can influence a care givers role. If a person ages and becomes disengaged the care giver may have a harder time caring for that person. Or if the care giver believes the disengagement theory is how people are supposed to age. I feel like some people think that old people are just supposed become less active and fade into the background. If a care giver treats an older adult as such they may be destine to follow the path of the disengagement theory. The continuity theory on the other hand, is what people hope will happen as they age. People want to remain active and engaged even at an older age. When I was a home health aide, I ran into many different types of people. As a care giver, the older adult that is active, personable and outgoing is easier to care for. • 13. Why Is It Always Wrong To Prove Anything Upon Insufficient... SYNOPSIS In this essay, I will criticize W.K. Clifford s main claim that it is always wrong, everywhere, and for anyone, to believe anything upon insufficient evidence. I will prove it is not wrong to form a belief without sufficient evidence, by engaging with ineffability. In the first section, I will begin by presenting Clifford s main argumentfor why it is always wrong to believe anything upon insufficient evidence. In the second section, I will define and explain The Representation Principle. Since Clifford does not clearly define what constitutes sufficient evidence, I will employ The Representation Principle as one requirement for sufficient evidence. The Representation Principle states: it is impossible to acquire sufficient evidence if someone is unable to fully represent all of the relevant information. In the third section, I will present my argument for refraining from forming beliefs, also referenced as The RFB Argument. I conclude that in some cases it is wrong for human beings... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Clifford presents a case involving an individual holding a belief upon insufficient evidence. He describes a ship owner who sincerely believes in the soundness of his ship when he sends it on a journey, holding a great number of people aboard. However, he acquired his belief in the soundness of the ship by stifling his doubts about the flaws of the boat, rather than by honestly seeking the truth. Clifford claims the ship owner is wrong in holding his belief, since he did not form his belief on sufficient evidence. Regardless of the outcome of the ship s journey, the ship owner believed wrongly. Clifford s argument can be presented as follows: 1. In the ship owner case, the ship owner believed wrongly. 2. If the ship owner believed wrongly, then it is always wrong, everywhere, and for anyone, to believe anything upon insufficient evidence. C. So, It is always wrong, everywhere, and for anyone, to believe anything upon insufficient ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

During Wilberforce s lifetime the British Empire expanded and proceed to be the dominant force in the world as an economic, military and political power. At its height it was the largest empire in history and for over a century was the world s foremost power. A power such as this had a considerable bearing on the people which habituated and worked to serve the power behind it as both MPs and people of significant social standing amongst its population as the elite. Therefore this essay will evaluate the vision of the Empire held Wilberforce and his contemporaries in the Clapham Sect. The Clapham Sect was a group of Evangelical Christians who resided near Clapham and formed a strong community amongst one another. The group was ardently committed to Practical Christianity and abolishing slavery. This is summarised succinctly by Together, this Clapham fellowship sought to make the British Empire an instrument of social and moral welfare to all people. This commonly held view shows that the Clapham Sect knew the magnitude and the significance the British Empire held and could use this as a platform to project their christian ideals onto people who in their eyes were worse off for not conforming to these ideals. The Empire was seen as something that could enlighten through Christianity, however it brought violence through Slavery, the biggest demon in the eyes of the Clapham Sect therefore it is of ... The term Neoliberalism was introduced around the 1990 s which was perceived to be the future for a free market economy. Essentially it originated from the idea that an economy would work more efficiently in the hands of the private sector. At the time there were many anti neoliberalism and anti globalisation activists protesting governments against free markets fearing foreign threat in regards to the country s factor endowments (Davies 2014, p. 309). The concept behind Neoliberalism is that the global market and its resources are shared equally, in other words becoming a free market economy where government does not intervene, creating more innovation consequently affecting trade and globalisation (Styhre 2014, p. 270). Will Rogers Television s rise in popularity throughout the fifties saw the emergence of the situation comedy, a style that captivated audiences by presenting a story with a beginning, a middle, and a happy end. One of the most popular of these shows, I Love Lucy, continues to appeal to both young and old some forty years later and counting. For most people, the answer to how I Love Lucy continually and effectively draws viewers to the screen is that It s funny. There is more to this funny show than meets the eye. After they were cast, it was discovered that both had musical and dancing talent from vaudeville, which opened doors in script writing to incorporate these talents. The four co stars had an innate ability to evoke laughter; behind the set a bulletin board listed the names of cast and crew with a series of gold stars next to each name. These represented the number of times funny, off camera ad libs were made (William Frawley always won.) • 21. Archetypes In Middle Class Throughout these past few years the people in my high school class, including myself, have begun to change and develop into who we are today. Each person changes, in and out of certain personalities or archetypes, at their own pace. However, it appears as though each classmate, at one point or another, has gone through each of these three archetypes: the innocent, the everyman, and the wanderer. The archetype that had typically shown up first was the innocent. As I recall, the innocent type personality had shown up when we were young, perhaps in the early grades in elementary school. The innocent would describe an individual who wants to simply be happy and to achieve their happiness, they constantly try to do the right thing no matter the... So, as a result of being so undefined, one will try to define themselves as what everybody else seems to be; basically becoming one of the crowd. Giving this a specific age to associate this with, the age would have to be a pre teen or late elementary and early middle school. The awkward stages of the twelve and thirteen year old girl that was Kayla were particularly callous and unsympathetic. This stage for my class was simply about fitting into a cruel and judgmental group of people. As a result, instead of celebrating and admiring our differences, any particular individual would bury the uniqueness within themselves and mask their own personality with the one that was accepted. Then, by becoming the accepted, my classmates and I had become the everyman. Thankfully, though, the harsh unforgiving environment of middle school would transition into the inviting and extraordinary place that is high school; where differences are celebrated by the upperclassman which blazes the trail for the underclassman to follow. The transition into high school was typically the time where my class and I had, for the most part, discarded the everyman archetype for at least a short while, and became ... • 22. Feudalism And The Feudal System Knights and kings are the first thing that many people think of regarding medieval times. However, the system was quite different and was called feudalism. Feudalism was a system that helped the king keep control of his kingdom and be able to protect his country. The feudal system was divided into four levels, and began around 900 A.D. and ended around 1400 A.D. Feudalism began in England when the Romans, who were in control of the people, left and the country became unstable. The Germanic tribes who inhabited the territory were constantly having civil wars, and had many problems. To solve that problem, and to develop a system of to defend their country, they developed feudalism as a form of government (Britton). Feudalism was a socio political hierarchy that had four different ranks. This was a very simplistic and logical form of government (Bishop 95). It was a fairly weak form of government because it was mainly established by trust in between the kings and the barons (Bishop 97). Feudalism was prominent in Europe for many years, and it ended around 1400 A.D. due to kings becoming more powerful. The kings were able to protect themselves without having barons because of the technology of guns. Also, the printing machine and better education made it easier for the king to manage his land without the barons and knights. The Black Death in the mid 14th century also played a big role in the fall of feudalism because many of the serfs died, making it harder for the knights ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Since then, several schemes have been proposed and the term turbo codes has been generalized to cover block codes as well as convolutional codes. Simply put, a turbo code is formed from the parallel concatenation of two codes separated by an interleaver. The turbo principle is a general way of processing data in receivers so that no information is wasted. This technique corresponds to an iterative exchange of soft information between different blocks in a communications receiver in order to improve overall system performance. It has opened up a new way of thinking in the construction of communication algorithms. This method was introduced in a system of error control for data transmission, called turbo code. This family of Forward Error Codes (FEC) consists of two key design innovations: concatenated encoding and iterative decoding. The turbo principle has been extended into new receiver topologies such as turbo detection, turbo equalization, turbo coded modulation, turbo MIMO, etc. In the case of transmission systems with interference, such an iterative receiver, known as turbo equalizer or turbo detector achieves significant gains in BER performance, compared with a non iterative scheme. However, the design of high throughput, low complexity and low latency architectures for a receiver that contains an iterative process is a great challenge. The Orthogonal Frequency Division ... Additionally, Ehhas been shown to decrease even further when soils are flooded with increased salinity levels (Baldwin and Mendelssohn, 1998; Flynn et al., 1995). Under these conditions, the soil medium becomes highly reducing and can affect wetland vegetation in two ways. First, and probably most significant, is the reduction of sulfate (present in seawater) to hydrogen sulfide, a known phytotoxin that has been shown to reduce wetland vegetation growth and/or survival at higher concentrations (Flynn et al., 1995). Secondly, highly reducing conditions can interfere with a plant s ability to uptake nitrogen by altering its form and availability in the soil (Webb et al., 1995). Other problems created by high salinity soil conditions include the change in water potential necessary for the plant to overcome the elevated salt concentration in the soil, and the possibility of toxicity due to uptake of Na+ and Cl ions (Flynn et al., 1995). In particular, Alu is often used to understand prehistory because all primates (including humans) with Alu insertions at specific locations can be traced to common ancestors [3]. Alu is sometimes referred to as a jumping gene because it copies itself to shift to new locations. • 39. Ansel Adams Photographer and Artist Essay example Ansel Adams photographer and artist Until the 19th century most artwork was created in a two or three dimensional media. In England, William Fox discovered a technique that allowed camera images to be captured on paper. This medium has evolved since Fox s discovery in 1839 to a serious and viable form of art today. Photography allows the artist to capture what he sees. The image produced is reality to the artists eye, it can only be manipulated with light and angles. The photograph is a very powerful medium. The group translated scale and detail into organic, sometimes abstract design (Jacobs, 1995). In 1935, Adams published his first book, Making a Photograph. • 40. Examples Of Love At First Sight In Romeo And Juliet Love at first sight does not exist. Romeo and Juliet is a tragedy that starts with love at first sight. Shakespeare developed two ignorant, naГЇve, stubborn, narrow minded, teenaged characters that ended up taking their own lives because they were led into temptation. A few examples of the temptation in which they were led were when Romeo was persuaded to go to a party without an invitation. That and they decided to get married without telling their parents the day after they met, and Juliet was basically engaged to Paris with a wedding date mere weeks from the day they got married. Romeo and Juliet proved their minds were narrow once more when they got married after a day of knowing each other, without their parent s consent, and Juliet was already to marry Paris weeks later. Instead Juliet married Romeo, a Montague, her family s rival family. Juliet even said, My only love sprung from my only hate, (Shakespeare). If they would have told someone they could have resolved the issue like adults but instead show how immature and hard head they were. • 41. The Pros And Cons Of Tragedy Donation Introduction A charitable donation refers to a gift made by an organization or an individual to a private foundation, charity or non profit organization. The U.S has allowed deduction on income tax to individual and corporate donors for their charitable donations since 1917 (Colinvaux Dale, 2015). Often, these donations represent the main source of funding for most of the nonprofit and charitable organizations. In most countries, a charitable donation made to any of the qualifying organization entitles one to an income taxdeduction. Organizations that do not qualify as charitable are considered for profit and are taxed accordingly to that effect. The Charitable Contributions Deduction entitles taxpayers to a tax deduction for the financial year in which they made their donations. The aim of this essay is to compare between the taxationof donations made to a charitable organizationby a corporation and that made by an individual. Comparison of charitable contributions by a corporation versus and individual Individual shareholders in a private company should compare whether they will realize higher tax benefits by personally donating to charitable organizations or by donating through their corporation. A corporation qualifies for similar charitable deductions that apply to individuals (Bank, 2017). These choices eventually affect the outcome in an unhappy ending. Jame s creates characters that encompass both sides of the social sphere in this work.
