Dramatic Tension in Miller s All My Sons Essay
Dramatic Tension in Miller s All My Sons
This extract begins with Chris and Ann deciding how they re going to break the news to the
Kellers. They start with Joe Keller, and he somewhat approves. The scene is lighthearted until
Keller finds out the George is on the phone for Ann from Columbia. This drives is suspicions and
gets him very protective. He begins to try and hint to Chris that Ann is here to try and convict him
of the death of Larry. Chris then gets very angry with him, and Joe compensates by bringing out
his extreme love and care for the success of his family. The tension of the scene gradually builds
up until this part, where Joe Keller abruptly gets very content and jokes about how ... Show more

The audience can sense this with the direct tone in Chris speech to his father.
Miller very effectively uses contrast between the tension in a scene with the skillful use of light
hearted preludes or interludes. The contrast means the dramatic tension has increased. This is
usually done with characters like Frank or Sue. This helps the audience distinguish the tension
better. In this extract, Miller uses Keller s overriding affection and graduated self confidence at
the end of the extract to bring down the tension. Keller becomes very witty and cheerful: There s
gonna be a wedding, kid, like there never was scene! Champagne, tuxedos ! The tension is very
abruptly brought down, as it directly follows Chris and Keller s argument. The contrast in tension
creates a morbid curiosity in the audience, where they can no longer predict what is to come, which
makes the play even better. This increases the rate of anticipation.
The most obvious feature of drama is perhaps the dialogue. Miller uses the skill of using offensive
speech to bring about the tension. He deliberately causes conflict between two characters to
increase the tension. More over, Miller uses stage directions as a dramatic device to bring about the
tension in a scene. Keller makes a distracted entrance onto

Universal Health Care In America

Policy Research Paper
Universal Health Care
America is a country that is commonly appreciated by its citizens for the values that it fought for
and stands by today. When new policies and ideas are brought forward and introduced to our
society, proponents and opponents frequently rely on our historic values such as freedom, equality
and democracy to support their stances. While capitalism is something that has always been
important to the United States people, it is important that we don t confuse the systems that should
be accessible and guaranteed to all with the systems that are excludable and look to make a profit.
Health care is one system that should be easily accessible and available for all American citizens ...

Despite reservations amongst Republicans, President Barack Obama signed the Patient
Protection and Affordable Health Care Act on March 23, 2010. This law was set to give
coverage to 32 million uninsured citizens, introduces subsides so that middle and lower income
families can more easily purchase insurance and stops insurers from refusing health coverage to
people with preexistent illnesses (Clemmitt, 2010). Evaluating this law five years after it s
signing, the percentage of U.S. adults without insurance dropped 4.5 percent to 11.9 percent in
early 2015. Attitudes towards the law have improved with an increasing number of people
seeing its benefits over time and although there have been issues with the law, the rate of the
growth of health care spending has actually decreased, with a 2013 rate of only 3.6 percent
(Vaida, 2015). This current plan isn t perfect and America still sees its civilization with countless
uninsured individuals but it is a step in the right direction. Our nation won t see a working
universal health coverage system until a majority is on the same page regarding the issue and
realize idealized results. The quickest way for America to come to this is for states to model other
nations and develop their own individual plans so that our society can discover the most efficient
option. It may be a single payer system or a government aided pluralistic system (Tanne, 2007), but
experimenting with what is successful and what has potential to work is key to finding America s
perfect health coverage fit and improving our efficiency of spending towards it (Clemmitt,

Male African And Asian Elephants Essay
than men (740). This suggests that women seek a large group of good friends while men are
content with a small amount of high quality friends. Simply put, women prefer to travel in herds.
Much like what one can observe in wildlife, females are found in large packs while males are
either solo or in a small group. Dr. Kathleen Brown, a visiting assistant professor of Claremont
McKenna College, further clarifies this idea. Through a phone interview that I conducted with Dr.
Brown, she explained that her graduate research project focused on mammalian residential patterns
and the psychological reasoning behind it. Male African and Asian elephants, she asserts, stray
from the herd at a juvenile age. From there, they form a small and dynamic bachelor herd. This
very behavior can be found amongst wild horse herds as well. While the females travel in large
bands, small stallion bachelor groups are formed in which the male horses reside. Dr. Brown draws
parallels among these animals with juvenile human men. She concludes that, at the onset of
puberty, it is in the mammalian essence for men to be less social creatures than women. Through
Dr. Brown s research, one surmises that as a mammalian male matures, he subconsciously limits the
amount of friends with which he surrounds himself. Not only are women more inclined to
conjugate in groups, they are much more driven by the affirmation that friendships provide. In

Explain The Spiral Cycle Of Spiral Methodology
Figure 1 spiral model
Spiral model is a software development methodology that used the pros of waterfall model and
RAD (Rapid application development) concept. It is a type of methodology that having a lot of
risk analysis about the difficulties occurs and the early version of program can be developed
quickly by using prototyping. Next, this methodology is having strong communication with the end
user due to its cycle (also referring to spirals in this methodology) keep repeating. It also is using
the latest module that created during the previous cycle for developing next prototype. Next, when
the troubles are not resolved able, developers can realize earlier. This can let the organization
decide whether this project should continue or not. The cycle will continue loop until the primary
people feel comfortable with the design.

The Cold War Between America And The Soviet Union
The Cold War
The Cold War occurred after the traumatic events of World War 2, that lasted almost 50 years,
beginning in 1945 and lasting through 1991. Even though, the United States and the Soviet Union
were allies during World War 2, political tensions arose between the two nations that resulted in the
production of nuclear weaponry, race of producing superior space mechanisms, and billions of
dollars spent.
The Cold Waris used to describe the relationship between America and the Soviet Union 1945 to
1980. Neither side ever fought the other the consequences would be too appalling but they did fight
for their beliefs using client states who fought for their beliefs on their behalf, South Vietnam was
anti communist and was supplied by America during the war while North Vietnam was pro
Communist and fought the south (and the Americans) using weapons from communist Russia or
communist China. In Afghanistan, the Americans supplied the rebel Afghans after the Soviet
Union invaded in 1979 while they never physically involved themselves thus avoiding a direct clash
with the Soviet Union.

Expanding Our Lunch Period Essay
Expanding our Lunch Period
We re talking about our kids futures. Our schools need to be teaching our kids how to be healthy.
Nadine Burke Harris. Nadine Burke is an American pediatrician. She is the founder and CEO of
the Center for Youth Wellness. This facility focuses on children who have had bad childhood
experiences. Mrs. Harris is an educated woman on what children need to have in order to be
healthy so we should take her advice. A thirty minute lunchperiod is too short, therefore we should
make it longer.
Students cannot finish their lunch in the amount of time we are given which causes us to be
wasteful. Since lunch is only thirty minutes, I do not have enough time to finish my lunch. For
example, if I have a sandwich in my lunch, I end up throwing at least half of it into the garbage.
Throwing half of your lunch out is not only wasting the food, but the money you spent. If my dad
knew how much of my lunch I wasted he would not be happy because he is buying my food.
Children in Africa don t have enough food to nourish their bodies, meanwhile we are wasting
perfectly good food that could save a child s life in need of food. Every 5 seconds a child dies due
to hunger and 1.3 billion tons of food is wasted every year around the globe (in text citation). ...

Puzzle Person
Puzzle pieces are only bits of cardboard until someone comes along to connect them. Just like this,
one measly story would only scratch the surface, disclosing a mere peripheral view of my
behavior at one time. You must first examine the people who influenced my character to catch a
glimpse of my actual personality. Without every piece, how will you ever know what picture they
will form?
My puzzle begins with my grandma, Nannie, who was diagnosed with cancer. She slowly lost her
personality and autonomy as the tumors grew, and became more of a stranger every day. This is
not another sob story though, it was actually a pivotal part of my life. I lost someone who meant
the world to me. There was no heads up, nor could my parents fix the problem this time, as my
younger self was accustomed. Instead, I stepped up and took care of my Mom, staying with her on
those nights when she just needed to vent her feelings. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

To Kill A Mockingbird Moral Education Essay
Theodore Roosevelt once said, To educate a person in the mind, but not in morals is to educate a
menace to society. These words are very accurate and relatable to Harper Lee s fictional novel To
Kill a Mockingbird. Throughout the story, Lee develops the theme of morality strong morals versus
poor, and how it impacts not only the children but the town of Maycomb, Alabama. She illustrates
the idea that our actions are not self sufficient, but rather they depend on what we have been taught
what is morally right or wrong. With that in mind, a strong moral education cannot be built without
a strong foundation. One day on their way to town, Jem and Scout Finch ran into Mrs. Dubose,
their old neighbor down the street. It had become routine to hear her vulgar comments and constant
ridicule about their father defending a nigger but on this day. Jem had decided enough was enough
and chooses to overlook the promise he had made with Atticus about being a gentleman (136). He
then retaliates by ruining her precious camellias. In spite of defending Atticus s name, Atticus was

As for many of Lee s characters, it can be said otherwise. One of them are the Ewells, the Ewells
were described as, the disgrace of Maycomb and that none of them had done an honest day s
work (30). This may have been the result from the root of the home, Bob Ewell. Bob is a man
[who] spends his relief checks on green whiskey, [while] his children [are] crying from hunger
pains. (41). These details of the relief checks and hunger pains conveys the idea that the Ewells
do not have a stable home, especially since the head of the home is a drunk who chooses to
overrule his children s necessities to satisfy his own selfish desires. In doing so, Lee uses Bob to
explain to the readers why the Ewells are seen as such a disgrace. How could his children possibly
learn right from wrong when their own father

Most Common Tools Present During The Lower Palaeolithic...
Oldowan and Acheulean stone tools were the most common tools present during the Lower
Palaeolithic period. These tools were the earliest evidence of cultural behaviour that is present
among us Homo sapiens now. The Oldowan and Acheulean artefacts is an important breakthrough
in early human prehistory. For the past two and a half million years, the ability to make and use
tools is a skill that has allowed humankind to thrive by making increasingly more efficient use of the
resources in the environment. For the majority of this time, two of the most important tools have
been the Oldowanchopper and the Acheuleanhandaxe. In this essay I will be talking about Oldowan
tools, Acheulean tools, and then I will compare the Oldowan tools to the Acheulean tools and see
what the differences and similarities there are between these two stone toolindustries. Hence, I will
be mentioning about the early Homo behavioural adaptations such as diet, ranging patterns, and the
possible development of social behaviour that were present during the era of these stone tools.
Oldowan stone tools are the world s oldest stone tool industry; dating back to 2.5 million years
ago. The Oldowan stone tool industry was used by Homo habilis. The Oldowan stone tool
industry was first found by Louis Leakey and Mary Leakey at Olduvai Gorge in Tanzania, at the
site Gona in Ethiopia, hence the name Oldowan. By being a cobble stone technology, these tools
were formed by breaking off a few flakes from a pebble

Healing Power Of Music Essay
The Healing Power Of Music Music has survived throughout the course of human history because
it has always been such a huge part of the human life. Music allows us to feel joy, sadness and
fear. It can bring us pleasure, express what we cannot express in words. In fact, no matter what
culture, race, or ethnicity you will find musicis always present and contains an important role in
society. Not only does music affect your mind but it effects our bodies as well. Music can aid in
recalling memories, affect our emotions and moods, and surprisingly enough, have various health
benefits. This paper will discuss how music can affect our mind, emotions, and our body but most
importantly its healing power. Music plays an important role in one s memory. We have two basics
types of memory Which are short and long term memory. Our brains seem to have been hard wired
to connect music with long term memory making it an essential tool in helping those with
Alzheimer s disease and related dementias. Alzheimer s disease is A progressive mental
deterioration that can occur in middle or old age, due to generalized degeneration of the brain. It is
the most common cause of premature senility. (https://www.alzheimers.org.uk/site/scripts

the results are astounding and can even be seen in the very late stages of the disease. Music has the

also create guidelines to help develop a support programme that is contextual and relevant to the
needs of teenage mothers. It was found that previous education experiences and social support
groups were important factors in influencing the way teenage mothers have adapted to being a

responsibility within the maternal role which led to them showing affection towards their babies.

The aim of this review is to systematically review the qualitative evidence on the lives of teenage
mothers, under the age of twenty, within the UK from 2000 to 2014.
It is agreed that teenage pregnancy and early motherhood can also be related to those who are
lacking money, or material possessions and poor educational achievements, poor physical and
mental health, social isolation, poverty and other connected factors. There is also a rising
acknowledgement that socio economic disadvantage can be both a cause and a consequence of
teenage parenthood.
Teenage pregnancy is seen as a concern in the United Kingdom (UK). There has been little research
from primary care observing teenage motherhood and its effects.
Aim:
To explore the experiences of all teenage mothers in relation to their role as a mother and their
expectations of their future as a teen mother.

The research data discussed in this sections has been drawn from a qualitative study examining
young women s experiences to teenage motherhood. The study focused on key decisions, choices

Mating Habits of Bonobos and Honey Bees Essay
Every species has their unique way to survive and interact with their environment. Some have extra
appendages in order to better combat predators, or they have bodies that allow them to camouflage
to their environment. Every species also has their way of reproducing and copulation, whether for
necessity or for enjoyment. Two species with different mating habits are the Apis mellifera, better
known as honey bees, and Pan paniscus, Bonobos apes. The former uses its reproductionmethods
for the survival of the entire colony of honey bees in exchange with the death of few and the
former uses copulation in a social setting in order to keep the peace of the pack.

1990). They are not needed for the winter months because they do not possess a stinger and are
therefore no use to the worker bees after copulation with the queen.
When it comes time for a new queen to emerge and take the place of the old queen, the previous
queen starts to lay eggs in queen cups. This usually happens around the time when swarming, or
the reproduction of these bees, is in favorable condition. These cups eventually become specially
constructed queen cells relatively similar to the shape of a peanut. Workers will only complete
the queen cell once the queen lays an egg in it. The queen larva develops differently from the other
worker bees because it is fed royal jelly very heavily compared to the other larvae in the hive, which
are only fed the royal jelly for two days after they are born. This difference in their diet allows the
queen larva to develop into a sexually mature female. The royal jelly is made from digested
pollen or nectar and mixed with a chemical that is produced from a gland on the head of a nursing
bee (Haydak, M. 1970).
The queen that emerges is called a virgin queen because she has not mated with any of the drones.
In order to become the actual queen of the hive, the virgin queen must find other queen rivals and
kill them. She may also use

Teenage Brain Vs Teen Brain
The brain of the average teen is quite different to that of an adult, which results in many struggles
in action and behavior that is special to teens. Most of the reasons teens act the way they do versus
how adults act can be determined by the brain and its development. These large and important
differences between the brains of adults in teens is why teens act so different from adults. The teen
brainis different from the adult brain because the teenage brain is not yet done maturing. This has
been proved in the article ( Teen Brain... ) where it says that the brain is still growing and maturing
in these year and the amygdala is what develops sooner than the prefrontal cortex( Teen Brain.., ).
So what this means is that teens actions are guided more by the emotional, amygdala and less by
the thoughtful, and logical prefrontal cortex ( Teen Brain... ).This shows the difference between
adult brain and teen brains because one typically thinks of most adults as logical and rational
people and often people think of teens as kind of crazy or off the rails and irrational. While some
of that is simple, the teens personality, a large part is simply biology. Our bodies are meant to
survive so it make sense that we develop the reaction and fear first but unfortunately now, in modern
times, we do not need those developments first since humans are not trying to survive in a harsh,
survival of the fittest centered, environment any longer, which results in the typical teen with an

what could of happened is that Universal Studios did not like his idea of Oswald and turned him
away. Meaning that he would have to find someone else to produce it or it would be his main
character. They could also say the free enterprise system will state that Walt Disney was already
in the business, he was already famous so it was easy for him to create his own character and
many other characters. With the free enterprise system Walt Disney was allowed to create his

consumers allow the producers to see what is working and what is not. The producers decide
what they are going to make, how much it is going to cost, and what to do with the profits. The

Mary Seacole Essay
How far do the sources suggest that Mary Seacole was a great help to the men in the Crimea ?
Mary Seacole is praised in both sources 1 and 2, but in source 3 it seems that Nightingale
disagrees in terms of her method of helping the men, although she did some good. Source 1 and
2 both agree that she was a great help but for different reasons. Source 1 is agreeing to this
mainly because of the fact that it is written by Sir John Hall who I Head of the Army Medical

Similarly source 3 also mentions no doubt she did some good but in this case it is begrudging
praise from Nightingale, and we know she s being honest because it is a letter that she

s opinion. This source is linked to the other 2 sources because it is at the time which Seacole was
getting a rapturous reception and in the other sources Seacole is getting praise but also all three
sources state somewhere in their content that she did help the men in the Crimea. Source 3 has
both fragments of agreement and disagreement and it differs from the other sources because it
doesn t completely agree with the other 2 sources and it can be seen as an emotionally charged
letter, as Seacole is getting so much praise in England, so it could suggest she s jealous of the
reception she s receiving back in England. As well as this it seems that she is the odd one out,
because everyone else has a huge love for Seacole apart from her. Nightingale also adds criticisms
to her methods of helping the men as she calls Seacole s hotel a bad house and she says that she
introduced much drunkenness and improper conduct which could be showing her jealousy as she
dismisses the fact that she helps the men, but she is ery picky on her methods. In source 3,

parents would have high expectations for their baby and designer babies are not very affordable.

want to invest your money on a designer baby. To want to have a designer baby it means to spend
close to $9000 on an In vitro fertilization with $3,000 to $5,000 of add ons for medication, close to
$4000 for a pre implantation genetic diagnosis and $18,000 for a gender selection. Sometimes even
simple genetic tests can cost over $200. That much money is way over the budget for most people.
To summarize, I do not have a positive view on designer babies. It is violating the baby s rights,
the parents would have some sort of expectations for the child that the child may or may not be
able to meet and designer babies are not affordable for the average family. The research for designer
babies is not a 100% completed yet. We can not predict if they will be a pro or a con for the future.
Only the future holds the truth.

Mikhail Gorbachev Decade
I think that Mikhail Gorbachev should be Person of the Decade. Mikhail Gorbachev was born on
March 2, 1931 into a Russian Ukrainian family in Privolnoye, Russia. His father, Sergei, and
mother Maria were both peasants. After three years in the Russian Army Mikhail s father returned
wounded and ended up passing down his experience as a combine harvester to Mikhail, which he
showed a natural ability at. As Mikhail reached his teenage years, he helped out his familyby
working at a machine stated driving tractors. Once he reached the age of 17 he was known as the
youngest person to win the Order of the Red Banner for Labor. What the Order of the Red Banner
for Labor meant was that his hard work helped bring in the bumper crop of that year. He... Show

Under the badge of democratization, restructuring has now encompassed politics, the economy,
spiritual life, and ideology. Both Regan and Gorbachev struggled to get along with one another
as well as agreeing on the development of a Strategic Defense Initiative. Reagan wanted this,
while on the other side, Mikhail did not. When it came down to it Gorbachev ended up agreeing
with Reagan in the year of 1987, making it the first ever mutual agreement on nuclear weapons
reduction. With everything he was doing Mikhail ended up becoming the first president of the
Soviet Union on March 15, 1990 with election coming from the Congress of People s Duties. His
leadership skills and his help he contributed to the overall betterment of the world were so good
that he ended up winning a Nobel Peace Prize. In the year of 1991 Mikhail was captured in a
coup by Prime Minister Pavlov whom he had hired to help him balance power with Yeltsin; all
because he wanted more power. When he had returned home people didn t trust him due to the fact
that they thought he was working with the coup leaders. The Soviet Union in turn crumbled in the
late year of 1991, making Gorbachev hand over his power to the Yeltsin and resign as

I Want To Visit To Tulane
I want to attend a relatively small private school in an urban area with a challenging curriculum
and thought provoking courses. At Tulane, I would receive the opportunities to participate in
exceptional undergraduate research and to develop personal relationships with my professors.
Tulane also has my first choice major, Molecular Biology. Tulane has superb academic flexibility,
so I could easily double major in Molecular Biology and Chemistry. I have always had Tulane on
my collegeradar, because my father attended Tulane. Recently, I had the opportunity to come to

Difference between Data and Information
Data is specific and it is organized for a purpose accurately and timely. Presented within a context, it
gives its meaning and relevance. The uncertainty also gets minimized.
Information is valuable because it can affect decision or an outcome. For example, if the manager is
told about the company s net profit which has been decreased in the past month, then this
information can lead for a reason to cut financial spending for the next month.
Information systems makes operations efficient, it processes data from company inputs and
generates the information that is useful for managing the operations. By adding more data,
information can be more accurate and it will increase the information system s effectiveness. It is
also used to support the organization s long term goals.

Genetic Mutation And Its Effects
Genetic Mutation in C. elegans and its Affect
INTRODUCTION
Caenorhabditis elegans (C. elegans) are transparent roundworm, that range about 1mm in length
and lack a respiratory and circulatory system. C. elegans is a model organism in genetics, its short
life cycle, ease of cultivation, small size, and high cell number and development makes it an easy
animal to use in experiments (International Journal of Molecular Science). In this experiment, two
strains of worms will be used. Virgin hermaphrodite and him 8 males, which will be the wildtype.
Him 8 strain is being use in this experiment because this gene has an increased rate of X
chromosomes, giving a forty percent change of producing male and sixty percent chance of
hermaphrodite. This will help produce wildtype and mutant genes in the genetic offspring of the
two. Hermaphrodites can be distinguishing from the male counterpart because they have wispy
threadlike structure for their tail, whereas male have a blunt end tail. (C. elegans as a genetic
organism) The tails are a great way in telling the difference between these two mutant strain. When
crossing these two strain together, the hypothesis that was made would be that we would find more
male mutation of an offspring because the male strain is a more recessive gene trait. Dumpy A with
a phenotype of dyp 10, this affects body shape and movement, causing the worm to be half of the
normal length but the same width, which causes a stumpy effect.

The effects of Land issues to poverty
The Philippines has always been an agricultural country. This can be an effect of the country s
tropical weather. According to the World Bank, in 2009, the country has 40% of agricultural land
area. The country s economy has been dependent on agricultural production. The country s
agriculture sector is made up of 4 sub sectors: farming, fisheries, livestock, and forestry, which
together employ 39.8 percent of the labor force and contribute 20 percent of GDP. Farmers work
under the sun s heat in order to feed the mouths of not only their families who are under poverty but
also the millions of Filipinos.
Land issues have always been a problem in the country. There would still be numerous reports on
killings because of undistributed land. There would always be problems on housing loans and
grants from the government. In effect, our Filipino farmers would still work under the same
landowners and would be deprived of developing their own lives.
In Gilberto M. Llanto and Marife M. Ballesteros s article, Land Issues in Poverty Reduction
Strategies and the Development Agenda: Philippines , it shows how land problems in the country
can affect the alleviation of poverty. According to the author, there are five critical land issues.
These are the following: (1) unclear and inconsistent land policies; (2) inefficient land
administration infrastructure; (3) highly politicized land tax system; (4) inefficient agrarian reform

Instead of compromising with his son, Aryeh Lev becomes very bitter about his son s
persistence to prove him wrong. Every man is responsible for what he does, because he has a
will and by that will he directs his life (169). Aryeh also felt that his son s gift must have come
from the Other Side after witnessing his son s paintings that featured nudes and portraits of
Jesus. Their struggle became so great as to strain their relationship to a breaking point. Listen to
me, Asher. This will stop. You will fight it. Or I will force you to return to Vienna with me after

sounding like a threat to his only son.
His father was not the only authoritative figure Asher struggled with. His mother, Rivkeh, was also
extremely weary of his behavior. She would try to talk to Asher but Asher would be so focused on
his art that he would not hear her speak. In the end, she gave in to Asher and ruined her relationship

Similarities Between Dark Ages And The Dark Ages

dark ages of Greece lacked writing so a lot of what we know is indirect. Such as Achilles Anger

Let s compare the warfare of both periods, in the dark ages the Trojan war took place, the reason
we know that this possibly happened is from the epics that Homer wrote such as the Iliad. In the
Iliad, you have Achilles Anger which followed a Greek hero Achilles. He was a role model to all
Greek soldiers at the time so we can only assume many soldiers shared the inclinations towards
war (spoils, glory, honor), soldier s perspective on the king (unjustly laying claim to larger
amounts of spoils of war), and camaraderie among soldiers (Achilles reaction to the death of his
friend). This is a very personal point of view on the soldiers that fought that war. We can only
assume that much of the wars fought were chaos, and fought one on one with small major fights
throughout. Then we have the The Melian Dialogue, which was written during the classical period
of Greece about Athenian and the Melians. In short, the Athenians were encroaching on the island
of Melos, a colony of Lacedaemon that would not submit to Athens like other island states. The
Melians refuse to give up their freedom for the sake of survival, Athenians lay siege on the island
and eventually forced surrender. Then Athenians killed all the grown men, sold off the women and

Characters such as the stepmother, the stepsisters, and even Cinderella herself are all negative
female role models. All three have negative qualities that can be negative influences for children.
For instance, Cinderella s stepmother is anything but a motherly figure. This is proven when
Cinderella predicts what her stepmother is going to say: You? My dear girl, you re staying at
home to wash the dishes, scrub the floors and turn down the beds for your stepsisters. They will
come home tired and very sleepy. She makes Cinderella do all the housework and treats her like
her personal servant. The stepmother is also well known for brainwashing her daughters into
thinking that they need to marry the prince. On top of that, Cinderella has to deal with
competition from her sisters. Instead of supporting her, they make a competition out of marrying
the prince, which gives an overall negative image of sisterhood. Meanwhile, Cinderella just can t
seem to speak up for herself. She agrees to everything she is told to do by her stepmother and not
once in the story took a stand for herself and proved that she was an independent woman.

Analysis Of Katha Pollitt s The Hunger Games Feral...
In Katha Pollitt s essay entitled The Hunger Games Feral Feminism, Pollitt writes about what
reality television might look like if taken to extremes. Reality television is a huge part of our
culture today, and I not only agree with Pollitt s views and ideas of what reality TV would look
if taken to the extremes, but I believe that we have already gotten to that point. Today s reality
TV shows such as Keeping up with the Kardashians , The Bachelorette or any of the Real
Housewives are among many of today s popular shows that focus on extreme aggression,
bullying, physical beauty, and sex appeal. These TV shows teach us that it is not only ok to
compromise morals and values, but that type of behavior accepted and rewarded. In today s age,
reality TV generally has to go negative and go to the extreme in order for it to be interesting
despite the lasting impact that it may have on viewers. Reality TV has an impact on the values of
their viewers and alters how they may perceive real life situations. Therefore, it s important to take
a look at some of the standards portrayed by reality TV.
Reality television is a huge part of our television viewing culture and the line between right and
wrong is not always clear to many of the viewers. The fact is, the extreme behaviors displayed are
not real or normal in the world that exists outside of reality TV. Many reality shows depict women
idealizing beauty and thinness, giving the impression that a woman s value is based

The Plausible Theory Of Perception Direct Realism Or...
Title
Which is the more plausible theory of perception Direct Realism or Indirect Realism?
Introduction
In this essay I will consider two common theories that attempt to account for the problem of
perception, namely Direct, and Indirect realism. I will outline several arguments against direct
realism and show how the theory of indirect realism more plausably accounts for the problem of
perception. Objections to the arguments against direct realism will be considered and possible
counterarguments given. This paper will consider two theories of perception that attempt to account
for this problem, namely Direct and Indirect realism, and argue against direct realism in favour of
indirect realism, leading to the conclusion that indirect realism is the more plausable of the two.
Background
The nature of perception, such as sight, touch, and smell appears intuitively straightforward; direct
and immediate access to a mind independent world (naive realism). We feel as if we looking
through our eyes, as if they are open windows to an external world, and when we feel the texture
of objects through haptic (touch) perception, it feels as if we are directly touching the external
surface of a mind independent objecting. Sitting on a couch it intuitively feels as if one is looking
at an object which exists independent of ones visual perception (e.g. the couch continues to look
green and have a soft texture even if one leaves the room). The problem of perception arises from
the existence

An Entrepreneur And Develop A Successful Business Essay
Introduction
Would you like to become an entrepreneur and develop a successful business? The following will
provide information on how to do this in the ever changing marketplace of the 21st century.
Developing business ideas are easy, however actually developing a successful business in the 21st
Century is known to be more difficult. Therefore, the 21st century entrepreneur requires great skills,
qualities, and attributes.
In a small business, you can be both the entrepreneur and the manager while you are getting it
going. But you need to know and understand everything about that business. (Branson, 2008)
Qualitative analysis was done by StartUp Britain provides official data collected from Company
House, and shows during 2015, the number of businesses started in the UK were 608,110 in total.
This was a new record compared to 581,173 start ups in 2014.(Yoshioka, 2016)
In all, small medium sized enterprises (SME), contribute to the economy in many ways and are
essential for economic growth. This report will provide the typical information needed to become a
successful entrepreneur and develop a successful business in the 21st century.
Skills, Qualities and Attributes Required For The 21st Century Entrepreneur

they are actually affecting the lives of many people who are depending on these programs.
Marcella and Dave had to make a drastic change in their life by spending down their assets and

Even though it has it s literal meanings, there are also hidden meanings within this cartoon. The
man covered in feathers is a great example of inferiority created by the Bostonians in the cartoon,
this would also be the focus point of the whole cartoon. In the background you can see a few men
pouring tea into the ocean. Finally, the noose hanging from the tree and the poster that says Stamp
Act means that the Americans were trying to get rid of the stamp act. The main focus point of the
whole cartoon is the man covered in feathers surrounded by people. This is typically a way to
humiliate the person, it also means that the Americans have taken control over him. The people

Boston was unhappy with the fact that their trade was shut down, therefore they decided to take
over the incoming ships and pour all the tea in it into the ocean. Wasting millions of dollars in tea
definitely represents Bostons hatred on the british. This is the second focus point of the piece,
even though is in the background it can definitely right after seeing the man covered in feathers.
The background shows what literally happened during the Boston Tea party. Finally, on the right
hand side of the man covered in feathers, you can see a Stamp act poster upside down on the
trunk of the tree;, also on the branch of the tree you can see a noose hanging from there. The
poster and the noose are connected, because it most likely means that the Bostonians want to kill
the stamp act, this explains the noose. The noose symbolizes the ending of the stamp act, this is
because a noose like this was used to kill people or get rid of someone that does bad to the
community (Stamp act). The poster upside down might just mean that the stamp act isn t working

King Henry V Character Analysis
Throughout history, it has been difficult to have a dynastic succession produce good leaders.
However, in William Shakespeare s Henry V, King Henry V is acclaimed as the dynastic successor
to England. Henry has a valid claim to the French throne, but France already has a successor, the
Dauphin. With some convincing and financing from the clergy, Henry decides to fight for his place
as the French heir. In the Battle of Agincourt, Henry demonstrates strong leadership at a young
age. As previously explained in Act I, Henry s father died when he was young, and Henry V
gained a new demeanor and changed his wild ways into proper ethics for royalty. Henry s
personality change leads to his noble leadership, and he seems to lead by example and in words
even as a young king. King Henry s conduct causes him to be a just ruler. King Henry s morality,
impartiality, and authority cause him to be a just ruler. King Henry s morality causes him to be
a just ruler. When Henry rises to the throne, he sheds his reckless personality as much as
possible, and he even distances himself from an old friend, John Falstaff. King Henry becomes
a morally and mentally sound king for England. Henry gains important morals for a ruler such as
humility, grace, piety, and wisdom even at his young age. Henry shows a glimpse of his
humility when he addresses the soldiers before the siege of Harfleur to inspire them for battle.
Henry says that they all must go Once more unto the breach, dear friends, once / more (3.1.1 2).
By addressing the soldiers as dear friends, Henry acknowledges them as equals and even goes as
far as saying that they are his comrades. His humility is loved by his people, so they respond as
motivated and united front for England. A good leader must never hold his/her head higher than
his/her subjects because this makes the ruler more popular when he/she considers all people
equally. Also, Henry is loved by the Church for his piety and other morals. As the Bishop of
Canterbury and the Bishop of Ely discuss the bill about to be passed which would tax the church,
the Bishops mention that Henry V is full of grace and fair reward. / And a true lover of the Church

Tropes In Forrest Gump
Forrest Gump is set in Georgia in the early 1960 s, when Forrest is sitting at a bus stop, with
flashbacks recounting the time back to his birth in 1942. Because Forrest is sitting at the bus
stop telling his life story to anyone who stops to listen, very little of the film takes place in the
present tense; rather, the plot takes place in the past as Forrest recounts his life experiences.
Throughout the film, many populist tropes surface within Forrest s life, showing how Forrest lived
in a time where he was unknowingly exposed and even contributing to a populist way of life that
challenged the way average people viewed society in the United States. Forrest Gumpintegrates the
tropes of populism with the genres of romance, war, and adventure, sending a powerful message to
viewers of how they ought to view the world, at a time when corruption and impurity dominated
society.
From the beginning of the film, it is evident that Forrest suffers from a mild form of mental illness.
This characterization is apparent throughout the movie, as Forrest is often viewed as an idiot.
While trying to get into the local public school, Forrest is initially denied admission due to his IQ
being lower than the required level for the school system. Although the principal of the school never
explicitly calls him an idiot, the implication is so strong that even Forrest himself understands the
principal thinks he is too dumb for school.
The first populist trope in the movie is the characterization

Essay about The Vulnerability of Weak Passwords
Passwords
This lab was to discuss the vulnerability of weak passwords. We were thought how to crack our
own passwords using a method called john the ripper . We also found out how secure various
passwords and how long it would take for a desktop Pc to crack these passwords. We looked up
various methods and applications to crack passwords.

Cultural Difference Between Fiat And Chrysler
dimensions with Italy only ahead by 8%. Each society is similar in regards to men and women in
an organization however; Italy has more respect towards elders and women. Italy surpasses the
United States in the Uncertainty Avoidance dimension. In the United States we do not like change,
but in Italy it is something they thrive on. When it comes to the Long and Short Term Orientation,
both Italy and the United States are low. Italy leads by a slight percentage. Both countries have a
short term when it comes to business planning. These cultural differences are not extreme. This
does not seem like a big enough threat for the FiatChrysleralliance or merger. In many ways Italy
and the United States appear to be similar countries. In many ways they are different too. Fiat and
Chrysler still have to be cautious of even the smallest cultural difference because it can be the
difference between success and failure.
III. Internal Environment The internal environment is important to all businesses as it directly
makes impacts on the business. These factors can include resources, management values,
stakeholder goals, strategy, corporate culture, employees, and capabilities. Fiat and Chrysler
respectively have strengths and weaknesses which can improve, or hurt, what they bring to the
global auto industry.

Ambiguity Of Bret Harte s The Outcasts Of Poker Flat
Research Paper Outline
Intro In The Outcasts of Poker Flat, Bret Harte creates John Oakhurst to be morally ambiguous to
express that one should not judge others at first glance.
II. Bret Harte creates John Oakhurst In The Outcasts of Poker Flat to be morally ambiguous.
A. Tommy, you re a good little man, but you can t gamble worth a cent. Don t try it over again. He
then handed him his money back, pushed him gently from the room, and so made a devoted slave
of Tom Simson (Harte 77).
1. In this piece of evidence from the story, Oakhurst is showing generosity in giving Tom his
money back. This is a side we see of Oakhurst to be the desirable side of him.
2. Gamblers as we know them have always been close to their money. People have ... Show more

Later in the story, One gets to know that Oakhurst is actually a man that keeps up with himself.
Harte notes, He bestirred himself in dusting his black clothes, washing his hands and face, and
other acts characteristic of his studiously neat habits, and for a moment forgot his annoyance
(77). This is something you would not think to see from someone that gambles and risks all they
have. Oakhurst from this is seen as a clean and he forces himself into good habits. This is
another reason shown why people should not judge people at first glance C. A secret committee
had determined to rid the town of all improper persons (Kolb 90). 1. In this criticism, Kolb gives
us the overall reason why the town decided to kick people out of the town. The words improper
persons mentioned in this is the basis of what the story is all about. All the people that have
traits as a improper human will need to leave the town. This is a big part of the story, and is
where people, like John Oakhurst, are being judged by people that don t even know them very
well. 2. These people are kicked out of the town and it ends up being their demise that they were
judged. Oakhurst and the others showed acts of kindness and caring after they were kicked out.
These people were people anybody would be able to like because of the things they did. This shows
and supports the meaning that you should not judge others at first

Was The Demise Of The Titanic, The “Unsinkable” Ship,...
Was the demise of the Titanic, the unsinkable ship, actually caused by an iceberg? People have
been told for centuries that the Titanic s catastrophic sinking was caused by the ship hitting an
iceberg. Hundreds of movies have been made and thousands of articles and books have been
written about the infamous sinking. However, the cause of the sinking is very different than most
people have been told all along. The Titanic, which was regarded as unsinkable, was the largest
ship of its time. The ship was owned by the White Star Line, and departed from Southampton
England on April 10 1912, scheduled to bring its 2224 passengers to New York. In the early hours
of April 15 1912, the ship sank, killing 1500 people. Most historians believe that... Show more

One major piece of evidence that supports the fire theory is the images discovered by Molony
that reveal a thirty foot long, diagonal black mark on the hull s front starboard side. These
marks resemble scorch marks caused by a fire at almost exactly where the iceberg struck the ship
(NY Daily News). The pictures Molony references were found at an auction house and were
taken by chief electrical engineer of the Titanic, John Westbeech Kempster. Kempster took these
photographs on April 1 and April 2 at the Harland and Wolff shipyard in Belfast, Northern
Ireland, just over a week before the ship sailed (CNN). At first, Molony thought the black mark
could just be a reflection, but after careful examination, he found that the mark did not change
places between photographs. One thing that caught Molony s eye about the mark was that it was
facing the sea, not the dock. Molony believes that the ship was strategically positioned so that
the passengers were not able to see the mark, so as not to raise questions (New York Times). Dr.
Guillermo Rein, who specializes in studying coal fires, also examined the photos with Molony. In
a documentary about the coal fire entitled Titanic: The New Evidence , Dr. Rein states that the
marks could definitely be from a coal fire. Since the photographs were taken about ten days before
the ship s departure, the fire must have been going on for at least that

Essay about Gulliver in Gulliver s Travels
A Simple Life
The novel, Gulliver s Travels, is just that, a novel about the main character, Gulliver who goes on
many journeys. The part of this book that brings out the reader s interest is Gulliver s character
and the ways his character changes as the story progresses. He begins as a naГЇve Englishman and
by the end of the book he has a strong hatred for the human race. Gulliver shows that his adventures
have taught him that a simple life, one without the complexities and weaknesses of human society,
may be best, but the simple life he longed for should not have been the route he took. Before
leaving his hometown in England, Gulliver was an open minded character. His first journey lead
him to the land of the Lilliputians, who ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Luckily for Gulliver, he managed to escape being blinded; at least for the time being. On his
second journey, Gulliver visited the island where the Houyhnhnms and Yahoos resided. On this
island the first people that Gulliver saw were the Yahoos but was first to talk to the Houyhnhnms.
While speaking to the Houyhnhnms, Gulliver realized how intelligent the horse like specie was.
The Houyhnhnms initially thought Gulliver, because of the physical appearance, was a Yahoo,
who happened superior to the rest of them. On this island, the Houyhnhnms were the dominant
species while the Yahoos were the less governing and the more savage of the two groups. They
were said to be flesh eating animals that were greedy and selfish. Gulliver made the connection that
the Yahoos were like the mankind. Though the human race has laws, government and art, their
natural instincts are to be greedy and self striving. While speaking with the Houyhnhnms of the
relations of the English, Gulliver begins to realize how much he dislikes his own people. Gulliver
speaks of the English Revolution and the war with France. In speaking of this, he begins to refer to
the English people as Yahoos. Gulliver and his master, one of the Houyhnhnms, speak more of what
distinguishes the Yahoos and the Houyhnhnms. Becoming more intrigued by these conversations,
Gulliver wants to see the compelling details for himself. He asks to be put among the Yahoos and

Essay On Pertussis
1.0Introduction
This paper discusses the condition pertussis with regard to its prevalence in Australia and the
United States. It also explores prevention methods currently recommended by leading organisations.
Despite a reduction of mortality linked to pertussis, it remains a health concern worldwide (WHO,
2010).
2.0Definition of pertussis
Pertussis, also referred to as whooping cough, is a bacterial infection affecting the upper respiratory
tract (Pluta, Lynm, Glass, 2010). Caused by the Bordetella pertussis bacterium, this disease is most
commonly diagnosed in unvaccinated young children. The infection is characterised by a long
lasting wet cough, paroxysms of coughing, a whooping sound on inspiration (Pluta et al., 2010),
and often vomiting following the coughing (Bentley, Pinfield, Rouse, 2013). The bacteria are
transmitted by airborne droplets released when infected individuals sneeze or cough and,
consequently, the infection is highly contagious (Chivima, 2011). Pertussis has a 7 10 day
incubation period and the disease can last from 6 8 weeks and is therefore notably ... Show more

They can determine whether patients require vaccinations through access to medication records or
inferred diagnosis made when reviewing prescription records (Bach Goad, 2015). Their traditional
role is distributing medication, but they may also provide immunisations, such as the Tdap vaccine
which is supplied by pharmacies in 43 states in the U.S. (Mills, Fensterheim, Taitel, Cannon, 2014).
By supplying vaccines, pharmacies make immunisation more convenient by providing a solution to
a significant barrier for immunisation, this being ease of access (Mills et al., 2014). In addition,
they may also be involved in educating their community on available vaccines and where to go to
obtain them, further reducing this barrier in the local community (Bach Goad,

Working with Internet does not mean just browsing www and sending and receiving e mails. The
Basic Structure of the Internet was developed through last 30 years of existence of the Internet. The
Internet is a heterogeneous worldwide network consisting of a large number of host computers and
local area networks. The Internet uses the TCP/IP suite of protocols. This allows the integration of
a large number of different computers into one single network with highly efficient communication

Listserv, the most popular program for managing discussion lists also handles subscription via
mail messages, archives incoming messages, and allows users to retrieve these and other
archived files. Thousands of discussion lists focusing on all kinds of topics exist on the Internet.
Topics range from various hobbies, political discussions to operational aspects of different
computer systems and research questions. For the user, discussion lists are an easy way to
identify and contact a large number of people with similar interests. A discussion list can also be
considered as a worldwide forum for expressing views and discussing opinions.
While messages are automatically sent to all subscribed users in the case of a discussion list
and one has to be subscribed in order to receive the messages, messages in Netnews are
distributed between a net of servers. Messages are organized in a hierarchy of newsgroups.
Incoming messages are stored for a particular period in a publicly accessible area. Each user can
connect to this area, browse through the stored messages, and respond to any one of them. This
way Netnews allows for a better overview of ongoing discussions but requires the user to actively
connect to the respective area.
One of the reasons for the creation of a computer network like the Internet was to give users access
to remote computers and to allow them to transfer files to and from this machine. These are typical

How Are Johannes Kepler Alike
Isaac Newton and Johannes Kepler are extremely influential to contemporary science. They are
responsible for countless scientific breakthroughs and discoveries, making them immensely
relevant today. Many of the simple tasks of everyday life rely on a basis of knowledge brought
about by these two men. Although they worked in the same general subject fields, they lived
completely different lives and made completely different discoveries. Newton was able to learn
from the ideas of Kepler and use that information to make his own breakthroughs. These two men
have their similarities and differences but worked towards a common goal of furthering scientific
understanding of the world. Johannes Kepler was an exceptionally accomplished man. He was...

Newton s laws of motion are also taught in physics classes. If it weren t for these laws, there would

from building large structures to making vehicles safer is made easier. Still used in modern
calculations, the newton is the main unit for the measurement of force. Named after Isaac Newton,
this unit proves just how influential he was to physics and understanding forces. If it weren t for
Isaac Newton, astronomers may not have such advanced telescopes. According to

Opportunistic invasive fungal diseases are a continuous threat to the immune compromised host
and result in high morbidity and mortality rates. Most of the invasive fungal diseases are caused by
Candida and Aspergillus species, however, other pathogens such as Scedosporium and Fusarium
species may be encountered.(1) The number of antifungal agents available for treating invasive
fungal infections has grown in recent years and now includes mainly three classes of drugs, namely
the polyene group which includes amphotericin B, the azoles, and the echinocandins, each of which
has a specific profile with respect to antifungal activity and toxicity. Therapeutic drug monitoring

Multiple factors have been found to be associated with a large variability in voriconazole exposure
following standard dose administration, such as nonlinear saturable pharmacokinetics, patient age
(in particular, with respect to children), liver disease, drug drug interactions, and genetic
polymorphism of the cytochrome CYP2C19.(5) In experimental candidiasis, the ratio of
voriconazole peak concentration and the 24 h area under the curve over the MIC have been
identified as the best pharmacodynamic predictors of treatment success. In contrast, no
experimental data are available regarding the pharmacodynamics of voriconazole for the treatment
of aspergillosis or other mycoses. Recently, experts have suggested that voriconazole trough blood
levels should be measured after 1 week of therapy for dose adjustment to target values of 1 5.5 mg
/L.(6 8) However, the utility of such measurements remains debatable, given that multiple
confounding factors may influence the outcome of infection and the assessment of tolerance in
severely ill patients. This uncertainty highlights the need for additional drug exposure related
efficacy and safety data in patients treated with voriconazole. The objective of the present
observational study is to assess the utility of voriconazole therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM).(5,

The Man Without A Face Character Analysis
The Man Without a Face
The 1993 movie, The Man Without a Face, is about a former teacher, Justin McLeod, turned
painter who was involved in a fatal road accident that killed a male student who was traveling
with him and severely scarred the right side of his body. After the crash and serving some prison
time, McLeod moved to an Island off the coast of Maine where he leads an isolated life as a
painter. The community avoids McLeod because the physical scars make him ugly and even scary.
Additionally, the town spreads many wrong rumors of him and call him names except for one boy,
Chuck Nordstadt. He gravely needs McLeod s help to pass his admission exams to a military
school. At the start of their encounters, McLeod avoids Chuck because he fears a repeat of the
painful past that involved the death of his student. However, Chuck insistence and persistence to
make McLeod his tutor softens McLeod s stance, and he embraces the idea of tutoring him. Soon,
the private tutoring sessions become public when Chuck skips home one night and is found at
McLeod s house the next morning. Later, McLeod is forced to leave the island to avoid trouble
with this community who have always misunderstood him (Gibson, 1993). Below is an analysis of
the film.
The film has several characters, such as McLeod, Chuck (son), Chuck (father), Catherine (Chuck s

  • 2. Dramatic Tension in Miller s All My Sons Essay Dramatic Tension in Miller s All My Sons This extract begins with Chris and Ann deciding how they re going to break the news to the Kellers. They start with Joe Keller, and he somewhat approves. The scene is lighthearted until Keller finds out the George is on the phone for Ann from Columbia. This drives is suspicions and gets him very protective. He begins to try and hint to Chris that Ann is here to try and convict him of the death of Larry. Chris then gets very angry with him, and Joe compensates by bringing out his extreme love and care for the success of his family. The tension of the scene gradually builds up until this part, where Joe Keller abruptly gets very content and jokes about how ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The audience can sense this with the direct tone in Chris speech to his father. Miller very effectively uses contrast between the tension in a scene with the skillful use of light hearted preludes or interludes. The contrast means the dramatic tension has increased. This is usually done with characters like Frank or Sue. This helps the audience distinguish the tension better. In this extract, Miller uses Keller s overriding affection and graduated self confidence at the end of the extract to bring down the tension. Keller becomes very witty and cheerful: There s gonna be a wedding, kid, like there never was scene! Champagne, tuxedos ! The tension is very abruptly brought down, as it directly follows Chris and Keller s argument. The contrast in tension creates a morbid curiosity in the audience, where they can no longer predict what is to come, which makes the play even better. This increases the rate of anticipation. The most obvious feature of drama is perhaps the dialogue. Miller uses the skill of using offensive speech to bring about the tension. He deliberately causes conflict between two characters to increase the tension. More over, Miller uses stage directions as a dramatic device to bring about the tension in a scene. Keller makes a distracted entrance onto ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Universal Health Care In America Allison Castro POSC 399 Policy Research Paper Universal Health Care America is a country that is commonly appreciated by its citizens for the values that it fought for and stands by today. When new policies and ideas are brought forward and introduced to our society, proponents and opponents frequently rely on our historic values such as freedom, equality and democracy to support their stances. While capitalism is something that has always been important to the United States people, it is important that we don t confuse the systems that should be accessible and guaranteed to all with the systems that are excludable and look to make a profit. Health care is one system that should be easily accessible and available for all American citizens ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Despite reservations amongst Republicans, President Barack Obama signed the Patient Protection and Affordable Health Care Act on March 23, 2010. This law was set to give coverage to 32 million uninsured citizens, introduces subsides so that middle and lower income families can more easily purchase insurance and stops insurers from refusing health coverage to people with preexistent illnesses (Clemmitt, 2010). Evaluating this law five years after it s signing, the percentage of U.S. adults without insurance dropped 4.5 percent to 11.9 percent in early 2015. Attitudes towards the law have improved with an increasing number of people seeing its benefits over time and although there have been issues with the law, the rate of the growth of health care spending has actually decreased, with a 2013 rate of only 3.6 percent (Vaida, 2015). This current plan isn t perfect and America still sees its civilization with countless uninsured individuals but it is a step in the right direction. Our nation won t see a working universal health coverage system until a majority is on the same page regarding the issue and realize idealized results. The quickest way for America to come to this is for states to model other nations and develop their own individual plans so that our society can discover the most efficient option. It may be a single payer system or a government aided pluralistic system (Tanne, 2007), but experimenting with what is successful and what has potential to work is key to finding America s perfect health coverage fit and improving our efficiency of spending towards it (Clemmitt, ... • 4. Male African And Asian Elephants Essay than men (740). This suggests that women seek a large group of good friends while men are content with a small amount of high quality friends. Simply put, women prefer to travel in herds. Much like what one can observe in wildlife, females are found in large packs while males are either solo or in a small group. Dr. Kathleen Brown, a visiting assistant professor of Claremont McKenna College, further clarifies this idea. Through a phone interview that I conducted with Dr. Brown, she explained that her graduate research project focused on mammalian residential patterns and the psychological reasoning behind it. Male African and Asian elephants, she asserts, stray from the herd at a juvenile age. From there, they form a small and dynamic bachelor herd. This very behavior can be found amongst wild horse herds as well. While the females travel in large bands, small stallion bachelor groups are formed in which the male horses reside. Dr. Brown draws parallels among these animals with juvenile human men. She concludes that, at the onset of puberty, it is in the mammalian essence for men to be less social creatures than women. Through Dr. Brown s research, one surmises that as a mammalian male matures, he subconsciously limits the amount of friends with which he surrounds himself. Not only are women more inclined to conjugate in groups, they are much more driven by the affirmation that friendships provide. • 6. The Cold War Between America And The Soviet Union The Cold War The Cold War occurred after the traumatic events of World War 2, that lasted almost 50 years, beginning in 1945 and lasting through 1991. Even though, the United States and the Soviet Union were allies during World War 2, political tensions arose between the two nations that resulted in the production of nuclear weaponry, race of producing superior space mechanisms, and billions of dollars spent. The Cold Waris used to describe the relationship between America and the Soviet Union 1945 to 1980. Neither side ever fought the other the consequences would be too appalling but they did fight for their beliefs using client states who fought for their beliefs on their behalf, South Vietnam was anti communist and was supplied by America during the war while North Vietnam was pro Communist and fought the south (and the Americans) using weapons from communist Russia or communist China. • 7. Expanding Our Lunch Period Essay Expanding our Lunch Period We re talking about our kids futures. Our schools need to be teaching our kids how to be healthy. Nadine Burke Harris. Nadine Burke is an American pediatrician. She is the founder and CEO of the Center for Youth Wellness. This facility focuses on children who have had bad childhood experiences. Mrs. Harris is an educated woman on what children need to have in order to be healthy so we should take her advice. A thirty minute lunchperiod is too short, therefore we should make it longer. Students cannot finish their lunch in the amount of time we are given which causes us to be wasteful. Since lunch is only thirty minutes, I do not have enough time to finish my lunch. For example, if I have a sandwich in my lunch, I end up throwing at least half of it into the garbage. Throwing half of your lunch out is not only wasting the food, but the money you spent. If my dad knew how much of my lunch I wasted he would not be happy because he is buying my food. Children in Africa don t have enough food to nourish their bodies, meanwhile we are wasting perfectly good food that could save a child s life in need of food. Every 5 seconds a child dies due to hunger and 1.3 billion tons of food is wasted every year around the globe (in text citation). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Just like this, one measly story would only scratch the surface, disclosing a mere peripheral view of my behavior at one time. You must first examine the people who influenced my character to catch a glimpse of my actual personality. Without every piece, how will you ever know what picture they will form? My puzzle begins with my grandma, Nannie, who was diagnosed with cancer. She slowly lost her personality and autonomy as the tumors grew, and became more of a stranger every day. This is not another sob story though, it was actually a pivotal part of my life. I lost someone who meant the world to me. • 9. To Kill A Mockingbird Moral Education Essay Theodore Roosevelt once said, To educate a person in the mind, but not in morals is to educate a menace to society. These words are very accurate and relatable to Harper Lee s fictional novel To Kill a Mockingbird. Throughout the story, Lee develops the theme of morality strong morals versus poor, and how it impacts not only the children but the town of Maycomb, Alabama. She illustrates the idea that our actions are not self sufficient, but rather they depend on what we have been taught what is morally right or wrong. With that in mind, a strong moral education cannot be built without a strong foundation. One day on their way to town, Jem and Scout Finch ran into Mrs. Dubose, their old neighbor down the street. It had become routine to hear her vulgar comments and constant ridicule about their father defending a nigger but on this day. Jem had decided enough was enough and chooses to overlook the promise he had made with Atticus about being a gentleman (136). He then retaliates by ruining her precious camellias. These details of the relief checks and hunger pains conveys the idea that the Ewells do not have a stable home, especially since the head of the home is a drunk who chooses to overrule his children s necessities to satisfy his own selfish desires. • 10. Most Common Tools Present During The Lower Palaeolithic... Oldowan and Acheulean stone tools were the most common tools present during the Lower Palaeolithic period. These tools were the earliest evidence of cultural behaviour that is present among us Homo sapiens now. The Oldowan and Acheulean artefacts is an important breakthrough in early human prehistory. For the past two and a half million years, the ability to make and use tools is a skill that has allowed humankind to thrive by making increasingly more efficient use of the resources in the environment. For the majority of this time, two of the most important tools have been the Oldowanchopper and the Acheuleanhandaxe. In this essay I will be talking about Oldowan tools, Acheulean tools, and then I will compare the Oldowan tools to the Acheulean tools and see what the differences and similarities there are between these two stone toolindustries. Hence, I will be mentioning about the early Homo behavioural adaptations such as diet, ranging patterns, and the possible development of social behaviour that were present during the era of these stone tools. Oldowan stone tools are the world s oldest stone tool industry; dating back to 2.5 million years ago. The Oldowan stone tool industry was used by Homo habilis. The Oldowan stone tool industry was first found by Louis Leakey and Mary Leakey at Olduvai Gorge in Tanzania, at the site Gona in Ethiopia, hence the name Oldowan. Some have extra appendages in order to better combat predators, or they have bodies that allow them to camouflage to their environment. Every species also has their way of reproducing and copulation, whether for necessity or for enjoyment. Two species with different mating habits are the Apis mellifera, better known as honey bees, and Pan paniscus, Bonobos apes. The former uses its reproductionmethods for the survival of the entire colony of honey bees in exchange with the death of few and the former uses copulation in a social setting in order to keep the peace of the pack. They are not needed for the winter months because they do not possess a stinger and are therefore no use to the worker bees after copulation with the queen. When it comes time for a new queen to emerge and take the place of the old queen, the previous queen starts to lay eggs in queen cups. This usually happens around the time when swarming, or the reproduction of these bees, is in favorable condition. These cups eventually become specially constructed queen cells relatively similar to the shape of a peanut. Workers will only complete the queen cell once the queen lays an egg in it. The queen larva develops differently from the other worker bees because it is fed royal jelly very heavily compared to the other larvae in the hive, which are only fed the royal jelly for two days after they are born. This difference in their diet allows the queen larva to develop into a sexually mature female. The royal jelly is made from digested pollen or nectar and mixed with a chemical that is produced from a gland on the head of a nursing bee (Haydak, M. 1970). The queen that emerges is called a virgin queen because she has not mated with any of the drones. In order to become the actual queen of the hive, the virgin queen must find other queen rivals and kill them. She may also use ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 14. Teenage Brain Vs Teen Brain The brain of the average teen is quite different to that of an adult, which results in many struggles in action and behavior that is special to teens. Most of the reasons teens act the way they do versus how adults act can be determined by the brain and its development. These large and important differences between the brains of adults in teens is why teens act so different from adults. The teen brainis different from the adult brain because the teenage brain is not yet done maturing. This has been proved in the article ( Teen Brain... ) where it says that the brain is still growing and maturing in these year and the amygdala is what develops sooner than the prefrontal cortex( Teen Brain.., ). So what this means is that teens actions are guided more by the emotional, amygdala and less by the thoughtful, and logical prefrontal cortex ( Teen Brain... ).This shows the difference between adult brain and teen brains because one typically thinks of most adults as logical and rational people and often people think of teens as kind of crazy or off the rails and irrational. While some of that is simple, the teens personality, a large part is simply biology. Our bodies are meant to survive so it make sense that we develop the reaction and fear first but unfortunately now, in modern times, we do not need those developments first since humans are not trying to survive in a harsh, survival of the fittest centered, environment any longer, which results in the typical teen with an ... Mary Seacole is praised in both sources 1 and 2, but in source 3 it seems that Nightingale disagrees in terms of her method of helping the men, although she did some good. Source 1 and 2 both agree that she was a great help but for different reasons. Source 1 is agreeing to this mainly because of the fact that it is written by Sir John Hall who I Head of the Army Medical Services and we know that Seacole was rejected by all hospitals, and he would not want to write about declining one of the most loved and charitable woman in Britain at the time, especially throughout the army, the assistance she gave them, made her beloved by the rank... Similarly source 3 also mentions no doubt she did some good but in this case it is begrudging praise from Nightingale, and we know she s being honest because it is a letter that she instructed her brother in law to burn after being read, so we get an accurate view of Nightingale s opinion. This source is linked to the other 2 sources because it is at the time which Seacole was getting a rapturous reception and in the other sources Seacole is getting praise but also all three sources state somewhere in their content that she did help the men in the Crimea. Source 3 has both fragments of agreement and disagreement and it differs from the other sources because it doesn t completely agree with the other 2 sources and it can be seen as an emotionally charged letter, as Seacole is getting so much praise in England, so it could suggest she s jealous of the reception she s receiving back in England. As well as this it seems that she is the odd one out, because everyone else has a huge love for Seacole apart from her. Nightingale also adds criticisms to her methods of helping the men as she calls Seacole s hotel a bad house and she says that she introduced much drunkenness and improper conduct which could be showing her jealousy as she dismisses the fact that she helps the men, but she is ery picky on her methods. Lastly, Unless you have a few thousand dollars laying around, chances are you probably don t want to invest your money on a designer baby. To want to have a designer baby it means to spend close to $9000 on an In vitro fertilization with $3,000 to $5,000 of add ons for medication, close to $4000 for a pre implantation genetic diagnosis and $18,000 for a gender selection. Genetic Mutation And Its Effects Genetic Mutation in C. elegans and its Affect INTRODUCTION Caenorhabditis elegans (C. elegans) are transparent roundworm, that range about 1mm in length and lack a respiratory and circulatory system. C. elegans is a model organism in genetics, its short life cycle, ease of cultivation, small size, and high cell number and development makes it an easy animal to use in experiments (International Journal of Molecular Science). In this experiment, two strains of worms will be used. Virgin hermaphrodite and him 8 males, which will be the wildtype. Him 8 strain is being use in this experiment because this gene has an increased rate of X chromosomes, giving a forty percent change of producing male and sixty percent chance of hermaphrodite. This will help produce wildtype and mutant genes in the genetic offspring of the two. Hermaphrodites can be distinguishing from the male counterpart because they have wispy threadlike structure for their tail, whereas male have a blunt end tail. (C. elegans as a genetic organism) The tails are a great way in telling the difference between these two mutant strain. When crossing these two strain together, the hypothesis that was made would be that we would find more male mutation of an offspring because the male strain is a more recessive gene trait. In the Iliad, you have Achilles Anger which followed a Greek hero Achilles. He was a role model to all Greek soldiers at the time so we can only assume many soldiers shared the inclinations towards war (spoils, glory, honor), soldier s perspective on the king (unjustly laying claim to larger amounts of spoils of war), and camaraderie among soldiers (Achilles reaction to the death of his friend). This is a very personal point of view on the soldiers that fought that war. We can only assume that much of the wars fought were chaos, and fought one on one with small major fights throughout. Today s reality TV shows such as Keeping up with the Kardashians , The Bachelorette or any of the Real Housewives are among many of today s popular shows that focus on extreme aggression, bullying, physical beauty, and sex appeal. These TV shows teach us that it is not only ok to compromise morals and values, but that type of behavior accepted and rewarded. In today s age, reality TV generally has to go negative and go to the extreme in order for it to be interesting despite the lasting impact that it may have on viewers. Reality TV has an impact on the values of their viewers and alters how they may perceive real life situations. Therefore, it s important to take a look at some of the standards portrayed by reality TV. Reality television is a huge part of our television viewing culture and the line between right and wrong is not always clear to many of the viewers. The fact is, the extreme behaviors displayed are not real or normal in the world that exists outside of reality TV. Many reality shows depict women idealizing beauty and thinness, giving the impression that a woman s value is based ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 36. The Plausible Theory Of Perception Direct Realism Or... Title Which is the more plausible theory of perception Direct Realism or Indirect Realism? Introduction In this essay I will consider two common theories that attempt to account for the problem of perception, namely Direct, and Indirect realism. I will outline several arguments against direct realism and show how the theory of indirect realism more plausably accounts for the problem of perception. Objections to the arguments against direct realism will be considered and possible counterarguments given. This paper will consider two theories of perception that attempt to account for this problem, namely Direct and Indirect realism, and argue against direct realism in favour of indirect realism, leading to the conclusion that indirect realism is the more plausable of the two. Background The nature of perception, such as sight, touch, and smell appears intuitively straightforward; direct and immediate access to a mind independent world (naive realism). We feel as if we looking through our eyes, as if they are open windows to an external world, and when we feel the texture of objects through haptic (touch) perception, it feels as if we are directly touching the external surface of a mind independent objecting. Sitting on a couch it intuitively feels as if one is looking at an object which exists independent of ones visual perception (e.g. the couch continues to look green and have a soft texture even if one leaves the room). The problem of perception arises from the existence ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 41. King Henry V Character Analysis Throughout history, it has been difficult to have a dynastic succession produce good leaders. However, in William Shakespeare s Henry V, King Henry V is acclaimed as the dynastic successor to England. Henry has a valid claim to the French throne, but France already has a successor, the Dauphin. With some convincing and financing from the clergy, Henry decides to fight for his place as the French heir. In the Battle of Agincourt, Henry demonstrates strong leadership at a young age. As previously explained in Act I, Henry s father died when he was young, and Henry V gained a new demeanor and changed his wild ways into proper ethics for royalty. Henry s personality change leads to his noble leadership, and he seems to lead by example and in words even as a young king. King Henry s conduct causes him to be a just ruler. King Henry s morality, impartiality, and authority cause him to be a just ruler. King Henry s morality causes him to be a just ruler. When Henry rises to the throne, he sheds his reckless personality as much as possible, and he even distances himself from an old friend, John Falstaff. King Henry becomes a morally and mentally sound king for England. Henry gains important morals for a ruler such as humility, grace, piety, and wisdom even at his young age. Henry shows a glimpse of his humility when he addresses the soldiers before the siege of Harfleur to inspire them for battle. Henry says that they all must go Once more unto the breach, dear friends, once / more (3.1.1 2). By addressing the soldiers as dear friends, Henry acknowledges them as equals and even goes as far as saying that they are his comrades. His humility is loved by his people, so they respond as motivated and united front for England. A good leader must never hold his/her head higher than his/her subjects because this makes the ruler more popular when he/she considers all people equally. Also, Henry is loved by the Church for his piety and other morals. • 42. Tropes In Forrest Gump Forrest Gump is set in Georgia in the early 1960 s, when Forrest is sitting at a bus stop, with flashbacks recounting the time back to his birth in 1942. Because Forrest is sitting at the bus stop telling his life story to anyone who stops to listen, very little of the film takes place in the present tense; rather, the plot takes place in the past as Forrest recounts his life experiences. Throughout the film, many populist tropes surface within Forrest s life, showing how Forrest lived in a time where he was unknowingly exposed and even contributing to a populist way of life that challenged the way average people viewed society in the United States. Forrest Gumpintegrates the tropes of populism with the genres of romance, war, and adventure, sending a powerful message to viewers of how they ought to view the world, at a time when corruption and impurity dominated society. From the beginning of the film, it is evident that Forrest suffers from a mild form of mental illness. This characterization is apparent throughout the movie, as Forrest is often viewed as an idiot. While trying to get into the local public school, Forrest is initially denied admission due to his IQ being lower than the required level for the school system. Although the principal of the school never explicitly calls him an idiot, the implication is so strong that even Forrest himself understands the principal thinks he is too dumb for school. People have been told for centuries that the Titanic s catastrophic sinking was caused by the ship hitting an iceberg. Hundreds of movies have been made and thousands of articles and books have been written about the infamous sinking. However, the cause of the sinking is very different than most people have been told all along. The Titanic, which was regarded as unsinkable, was the largest ship of its time. The ship was owned by the White Star Line, and departed from Southampton England on April 10 1912, scheduled to bring its 2224 passengers to New York. One major piece of evidence that supports the fire theory is the images discovered by Molony that reveal a thirty foot long, diagonal black mark on the hull s front starboard side. These marks resemble scorch marks caused by a fire at almost exactly where the iceberg struck the ship (NY Daily News). The pictures Molony references were found at an auction house and were taken by chief electrical engineer of the Titanic, John Westbeech Kempster. Kempster took these photographs on April 1 and April 2 at the Harland and Wolff shipyard in Belfast, Northern Ireland, just over a week before the ship sailed (CNN). At first, Molony thought the black mark could just be a reflection, but after careful examination, he found that the mark did not change places between photographs. One thing that caught Molony s eye about the mark was that it was facing the sea, not the dock. Molony believes that the ship was strategically positioned so that the passengers were not able to see the mark, so as not to raise questions (New York Times). Dr. Guillermo Rein, who specializes in studying coal fires, also examined the photos with Molony.
