  • 7. Background to NLP Neuro Linguistic Programming began in the early ’70s when Richard Bandler, a student of psychology at the University of California, Santa Cruz started working with John Grinder, who was then the Assistant Professor of Linguistics. They began by studying three people to find out how and why they were such successful experts in their field. As a result of these studies the first strategies and models of excellence they identified dealt with verbal and non-verbal communication skills. Subsequently NLP has identified a myriad of techniques that are used successfully in all walks of life and for many different purposes, such as coaching, sales, marketing, self development, influencing and many more. 7

  • 10. NLP Enhances The Ability To….. • Create rapport • Understand body language • Improve interpersonal skills • Influence 10
  • 11. The Four Parts of NLP: 11
  • 12. The Four Part of NLP: Rapport • Is the first step to good communication • Is meeting others in their model of the world • Is matching the way you communicate to the way the other person takes in information • Increases the likelihood that the message you send will be the one they receive • Promotes trust and comfort between people Impact in communication is: 55% by body language 38% by tone 7% by content 12
  • 13. The Four Part of NLP: Outcome Orientation The second part is to know what you want. Without knowing what you want you cannot define success, celebrate when you achieve, or map your journey towards your goals. You need to ask yourself the following questions: • What do I want? • What do I want? • What do I want? • What do I want? 13
  • 14. The Four Part of NLP: Sensory Acuity The third part is to notice what is happening to you and to others around you. Become more curious and aware of the effects and impact of what you do. Only then will you truly know if you are on course to achieve your goal. You can then use this feedback to adjust what you are doing. You need to ask yourself the following questions: • • • • • • How will I know when I have got it? What will I be seeing when I have got it? What will I be hearing when I have got it? What will I be feeling when I have got it? What will you see me doing, when I have got it? What will you hear me saying when I have got it? 14
  • 15. The Four Part of NLP: Behavioural Flexibility If what you are doing isn’t working do something different. If you always do what you’ve always done, you will always get what you’ve always got! Remember, you always have a choice of what action you take and how you act and react to situations. It is useful to look at the world from different perspectives and points of view. The more behavioural flexibility you have the more choices you will discover. Keep changing what you do until you get what you want! 15
  • 16. Who Will Be Benefited  NLP is for any one & everyone. Age/Gender/ Profession/ Status.. No Bar.  From Kids to senior citizens.  All executive & leadership levels and management positions, irrespective of function /industry/ sector. 16
  • 17.  From House wives to Celebrities.  From Teacher to Politician, & from doctors to IT professionals.  From Individuals to Organizations. 17
  • 18. For Sales Professional: The NLP for professionals are normally applied to businesses as well as at home. NLP can enable changes; improve management and leadership skills. 18
  • 19. It Will Benefit You In:  Style of customers and their acceptability  Learn how to select a powerful method of changing the circumstance.  How to create rapport in as little time as possible, particularly during tough situations.  What is the best way to define objectives and make them forceful? 19
  • 20. For Kids: We all wish that our kids will live and grow in an environment where they will be able to live a life without any pressure or stress. Unfortunately, the increasing expectations lead to stress for our kids. NLP plays a great role to provide fun and happy childhood. NLP techniques help kids:  How they can build their self confidence.  How they can control their mood.  If they get criticized then how they can manage the situation.  The best way to cope with grief.  How they can make friends.  How they can learn in the most effective way. 20
  • 21. For Schools:  Every school wishes to function optimally where teachers will be able to teach optimally and students would be able to learn effectively? This is where the importance of NLP is felt .  NLP is also considered to be of great use to develop the self confidence of not just the teachers but also the students in their life. . 21
  • 22. • NLP techniques can be used by teachers to make the students learn faster and help them retain the things that they have learned. • Many schools have been making use of this approach because they want to improve the overall performance of the school. • Through NLP, teachers will be trained how they can control their emotions via state management. 22
  • 23. Conclusion: 1) You can find out how someone represents the world in their head by observing the words they use, their physiology and the position of their eyes when thinking. 2) If you match the behavior of a person you can gain rapport more rapidly and hence ‘connect’ with them 3) Understanding a person’s personality type allows you to give them information in a way they are most receptive to. 23
