for an ordering process/shortcut to be formed. It
is the way in which we can determine an in group
from an out group; similarities from differences.
• Tessa Perkins made it clear that stereotyping is
not a simple process and it would not work in
society as everyone would be cartoonlike.
• Martin Baker says that stereotypes are
condemned for the representation of the real
world.

• A strong business woman with an office based
role.
• Smart and formal dress.
• Feared in the workplace.
• Independence is key.
• No children.
4. The ‘Dumb Blonde’
• Lack of intelligence.
• Makeup is applied heavily.
• Revealing, skimpy clothing is worn.
• Appearance is key.
• Often objectified as a sex object.
• Usually has a small waist and large breasts.
5. The Maternal Housewife
• Happily married.
• Stay at home mother who happily cooks and
cleans.
• Good at sewing and baking.
• Pristine house and garden.
• Likes to talk and gossip with close friends,
often neighbors.
6. The Masculine
• Drinks beer instead of wine.
• Wears trainers and loose fitting clothing.
• Majority of friends are male.
• Likes to engage in sports such as rugby and
football.
