This survey is the Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS). BRFSS is a point in time household telephone survey. Iowa began annual surveys in 1988. The survey is designed to collect information on the health conditions, health risk behaviors, attitudes, and awareness of residents age 18 and over. The indicators measured are major contributors to illness, disability and premature death. BRFSS data is used to design, implement and support public health activities. Many public health programs are designed to modify health related behaviors and BRFSS information is one way to assess program effectiveness. Comparing different times, demographic groups or geographic areas may be quite useful in developing, implementing and evaluation of intervention programs.
