2. According to the National Institute of Mental Health, one
in every five adults has a diagnosable mental disorder.
3. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services,
states that there are many contributing factors in regards
to mental health issues. These factors include
• Biological factorsL
• Life experiences
• Family history of mental health problems
4. What many people do not know is that there are many
useful treatments available for mental disorders.
5. Air Force mental health clinics offer a wide variety of
services to service members and their families. These
services include:
• Mental health assessments
• Education
• Consultation and treatment through a variety of
Evidence-based therapeutic exercises
• Individual and group therapy
6. The Air Force Family Advocacy Program (AFFAP) uses
trainings, consultation services, and program policies
and development to help with issues such as domestic
abuse, child abuse and neglect.
7. The Air Force is also in the process of developing their
fundamental care teams to better acknowledge
behavioral health needs.
8. The Behavioral Health Optimization Program (BHOP) is a
primary care behavioral health plan and BHOP is
available to all active duty service members, retirees and
their family members.
9. Through this program the behavioral health personnel
are placed in primary care clinics to provide “the right
care, at the right time, in the right place.”
