  • 6. Back in the early part of the 20th century, teachers were the primary source of information

  • 8. Students sat in the classroom and teachers lectured...
    Students learned from listening to their teachers
  • 9. Teachers and books were the primary
    source of information
  • 10. TEACHER in CENTER STAGE 
  • 11.   BOOKS AND LIBRARIES WERE KEY 
  • 12. This structure of education continued  until the end of the 20th century and the
    birth of the personal computer
  • 13. IBM developed the first personal computer 
    but the revolution 
    didn't really happen 
    until 
    1984

  • 15. Macintosh was the beginning of the personal  technological revolution 
  • 16. In 1999  
    was born....and
     the way people got information wasforever changed
  • 17. Anyone with a computer could now look up anything on the Internet and learn 24/7
    The role of the book, the library and the teacher were forever changed everywhere
    except in the classroom
  • 18. The majority of teachers today still think of themselves as the 
    SAGE ON THE STAGE 
    and use the lecture method of instruction
  • 19. They forget that today kids have 
    easy access to information via
    • their computer
    • 20. their smart phone
    • 21. their tablet device
  • Students are bored and drop out because they claim the classes are not relevant. 
  • 22. Turns out we are not engaging kids
    MANY classes are not relevant
    The teacher is no longer the ONLY source of information
    Books are no longer the only place to find information
    Students can find information 24/7 on the Internet
  • 23. 7000 kids drop out of school every school day
    1.3 million annually
    Costing billions in lost wages

    needs to use the Internet to support their teaching

    needs to hand over somecontrol of student learning to the students

    needs to promote student collaboration using digital tools

    Kids can use these videos to help them understand concepts they missed in class
    Kids can replay these videos as often as they like to understand the concepts
