  4. 4. Many things have changed in education<br />

  6. 6. Back in the early part of the 20th century, teachers were the primary source of information<br />

  8. 8. Students sat in the classroom and teachers lectured...<br />Students learned from listening to their teachers<br />
  9. 9. Teachers and books were the primary<br />source of information<br />
  10. 10. TEACHER in CENTER STAGE <br />
  11. 11.   BOOKS AND LIBRARIES WERE KEY <br />
  12. 12. This structure of education continued  until the end of the 20th century and the <br />birth of the personal computer<br />
  13. 13. IBM developed the first personal computer <br />but the revolution <br />didn't really happen <br />until <br />1984<br />
  14. 14. VIDEO<br />
  15. 15. Macintosh was the beginning of the personal  technological revolution <br />
  16. 16. In 1999  <br />was born....and<br /> the way people got information wasforever changed<br />
  17. 17. Anyone with a computer could now look up anything on the Internet and learn 24/7<br />The role of the book, the library and the teacher were forever changed everywhere<br />except in the classroom<br />
  18. 18. The majority of teachers today still think of themselves as the <br />SAGE ON THE STAGE <br />and use the lecture method of instruction<br />
  19. 19. They forget that today kids have <br />easy access to information via<br /><ul><li>their computer
  20. 20. their smart phone
  21. 21. their tablet device</li></li></ul><li>Students are bored and drop out because they claim the classes are not relevant. <br />
  22. 22. Turns out we are not engaging kids<br />MANY classes are not relevant<br />The teacher is no longer the ONLY source of information<br />Books are no longer the only place to find information<br />Students can find information 24/7 on the Internet<br />
  23. 23. 7000 kids drop out of school every school day<br />1.3 million annually<br />Costing billions in lost wages<br />
  24. 24. The 21stCenturyTeacher <br />needs to use the Internet to support their teaching<br />
  25. 25. The 21stCenturyTeacher <br />needs to hand over somecontrol of student learning to the students<br />
  26. 26. The 21stCenturyTeacher<br />needs to promote student collaboration using digital tools<br />

  30. 30. Teachers can use these videos to help differentiate instruction<br />Kids can use these videos to help them understand concepts they missed in class<br />Kids can replay these videos as often as they like to understand the concepts<br />
