2. The Start – 1970’s
The late 1970’s was the era for the teen film industry to come alive.
The classic films such as grease and Carrie is what made the film
industry a big hit. This encourage the film industry to create more
under the hip and cool feel. Teenagers loved watching these as they
felt it related so much to their everyday life situations. It was also
seen as a new method of keeping the teenagers entertained so they
were free from trouble. At this time teen films didn’t focus on
stereotypes but gangs instead.
3. The Rad years – 80’s
Roughly 40 teen films where made during this time. The film industry
started to explore and research teenage stereotypes. Typical
characters were then established for example the jock. Many teen films
would use these characters as they would make the storylines more life
like rather than a made up script. The breakfast – a highly popular film
did this by bringing five characters together from different stereotypes
and placed them in a room clearly differencing the difference between
them.

4. The Cool Kids – 90’s
The 90’s is mainly when mobile phones started becoming popular and
more affordable. Also most teenagers at the time really wanted one. So
many teen films started to introduce them using it as a prop. Mostly
upper class characters such as the jock and the princess would have
them. Also there was an increase of convertible cars being brought for
teenagers so the film industry would buy it for the characters such as
the jock and the princess as having a car meant you where rich and
cool.

5. New Millennium, New Affection
As the new millennium came teen films went into a new direction,
focusing a lot on teenage romance with most teenage films produced
about love and relationships. The films Love and Basketball & Save the
last dance are prefect examples of this as two very different characters
both share something in common which brings them together to form
a relationship.

6. Teenagers Can Kick Butts Too!
At the start of 2010 the film industry started producing more action
teen film which was the typical action movie but with a teenage a twist
and more appropriate for teens for example the violence was maybe
limited or less harmful. Theses films became a great hit such as
Spiderman and Hunger Games taking teen movies to a completely new
level.

7. Sex Drugs & Cinema
Teen films have gotten a lot of bad criticism as many people believe
they have indirectly influenced young teens into drugs such as ecstasy,
alcohol and sex. Films such as ‘Project X’, ‘American Pie’ and
‘Anavahood’ show theses events making it seem normal too teenagers.
The film industry believes teenagers are all ready exposed to all this
and that when these events do take place it their films they give out a
clear message behind it indicating its not good.

8. The End of A Teen Journey
Overall teen films have made a massive impact in the film industry
bringing fun and entertainment to the silver screen, although teen
films have had its ups and downs it is now a big success making millions
of pounds!
