More than 300,000 people have signed up to the University of Edinburghs free massive open online courses (MOOCs) since they were first announced in July 2012http://www.timeshighereducation.co.uk/story.asp?sectioncode=26&storycode=422568&c=1
The university is offering six courseson the Coursera platform
The majority of the courses run forfive weeks and include "Astrobiologyand the Search for Extra-terrestrialLife", "Artificial Intelligence Planning","Introduction to Philosophy" and"Equine Nutrition".
Edinburgh said it aims to attract10,000 distance learning studentsover the next decade. It currently hasnearly 2,000 students enrolled ononline taught masters programmes.
