research, education and

the Foundation’s Board of
Trustees and staff annually

program of work that is
aimed at educating the
public and elected leaders
about the many benefits
of transportation
improvements and the need
to significantly boost those
investments to meet
future U.S. economic and
mobility demands.

The ARTBA-TDF offers a variety of professional
development, training and safety services for industry
executives and many feature Professional Development
Hours (PDHs). Among them:
Transportation Builder Institute
Created by top executives in leading
industry firms, the Transportation
Builder Institute offers customized
academies exclusively for transporta-
tion design, construction and safety
executives:
Professional Development, Education & Training
Offers both substantive theory
and practical application of principles of project
management for transportation construction
professionals. Topics covered: planning, scheduling,
effective client relations, job-site teamwork, safety and
risk management, and ethics.
Teaches managers how to use schedules
to track all aspects of a transportation project—people,
materials, key operational benchmarks and payment
schedules. It also features “hands-on” experience with
the industry’s most widely used scheduling software,
Primavera Project Planner (P6®).

A new certified course focused on this critical
hazard in the transportation construction industry. Through this program,
participants will receive a certificate and wallet card documenting their
completion of this ARTBA class.
A state-of-the-art, interactive instructional program
containing training modules covering 33 different topics that can be
customized to the needs of the participants. It is the most widely-vetted and
comprehensive roadway construction safety training program in the
industry, and was developed through 15 years of collaboration between
ARTBA and its partners in labor, government and industry.
Based on more than a decade of
government and industry research, this course includes step-by-step
instructions on preventing worker “struck-by” incidents through creation of
“Internal Traffic Control Plans (ITCPs).” It focuses on blind spot recognition,
work zone access/egress, and safe backing procedures.
The
first and most comprehensive program focused on highway construction
activities that are responsible for the majority of work zone fatalities and
serious injuries. The course provides an overview of 11 key construction
work zone-related safety and health topics and is accredited by OSHA.
An interactive session where winners of the ARTBA
Foundation’s “Contractor Safety Awards” share successful ideas, best
practices and management techniques that enabled them to achieve
remarkable safety and productivity records.

Virtual Conference forTransportation Officials
Established in 2012, the “Local Transportation
Management Virtual Conference & Innovation Showcase”
(LōTransTM
) featuring “Best Practices in Work Zone Safety,”
is hosted by the ARTBA Foundation and the National Work
Zone Safety Information Clearinghouse. The annual event
uses a virtual meeting platform to deliver to federal, state,
and local transportation officials and industry executives
free educational sessions, information, and access to
products and services from exhibitors.
Dr. J. Don BrockTransOvation Workshop™
Named after the pioneering founder of Astec Industries, a
worldwide company based in Tennessee, TransOvationTM
annually brings together the brightest minds for a two-and-
a-half day interactive workshop that helps transportation
construction executives foster and build innovative thinking
into their professional skill set.
Young Executive Development Program
Established in 1995 and now with more than 550 graduates,
the intensive, multi-day Young Executive Development
Program (YEDP) provides industry “rising stars” with an
in-depth understanding of how the federal transportation
programs are structured and financed, and ARTBA’s role in
shaping policy and regulations. YEDP fellows also become
industry advocates and leaders, with trips to Capitol Hill to
meet with their members of Congress on pending
transportation issues.

Local & Tribal Technical
Assistance Program
National Work Zone Safety Information
Clearinghouse
Found at , the Clearinghouse
was established in 1998 and is the world’s largest
information resource on “best practices,” laws, regulations,
public awareness campaigns, products, training and
educational materials. The facility handles 175,000
information requests annually.
Local/TribalTechnical Assistance Programs
The Local Technical Assistance Program (LTAP) and Tribal
Technical Assistance Program (TTAP) are composed of a
network of 58 centers—one in every state, Puerto Rico and
regional centers serving tribal governments. Under a fed-
eral contract, ARTBA-TDF manages the LTAP/TTAP
Clearinghouse operations. The centers enable local
counties, parishes, townships, cities and towns to improve
their roads and bridges by supplying them with a variety of
training programs, new and existing technology updates,
personalized technical assistance and newsletters.

high-school financial assistance to the children of high-
way workers killed or permanently disabled on the job.

development and demonstrated exceptional leadership
over their lifetime.
Honors transportation design and
construction industry excellence in project
environmental protection and mitigation.

contractor’s corporate safety culture, operational safety
plans and worker training programs.

Recognizes extraordinary efforts of
individuals, companies and public agencies that have
demonstrated leadership and dedication to innovation
in the transportation construction field as well as the
promotion of women leaders within the industry.
Celebrates “innovative transportation infrastructure-
related products, services, technologies and techniques
that can be documented to provide a high return-on-
investment by: improving safety; saving users and
taxpayers time and/or money; or making our
infrastructure more environmentally sustainable.”
Special Events
To raise money to support its programs, ARTBA-TDF
hosts special events such as the gala dinners celebrating the
100th
anniversary of ARTBA, the 50th
Anniversary of the
Interstate Highway System and inductions to the Hall
of Fame.
