4 Costly Misconceptions About Wedding Bands
1. 4 costly misconceptions about Wedding Bands
• Tungsten and Ceramic can be resized
• Tungsten is Unbreakable
• Metal rings can cause allergies
• All rings need costly maintenance
2. Tungsten and Ceramic can be resized
Tungsten Carbide and Ceramic will never bend out of shape, but you might if
you lose or gain weight. I guess it depends if married life agrees with you or
not. Due to the hardness of the material the ring cannot be resized. However,
under our Lifetime Warranty it can be replaced with another size. Just get in
touch and we’ll help you out.
Not all retailer offer the same resizing
terms and conditions, so you need to be
sure that who you purchase from offer this
service for free or at least at a minimal
change. I wish I had known about a
service like this when purchasing my ring,
as my wedding band no longer fits and
now I have to wear it on a chain around
my neck; I didn’t have resizing coverage.
3. Tungsten is Unbreakable
Be wary of anyone makes claims such as this, they are false. Because Tungsten
Carbide it a powder mixed with nickel, it can have voids. This means it could
break if it were to be dropped on a hard flooring surface. Our manufacture does
their best to catch any of these voids before they leave the warehouse, but
should this occur as long as no warranty conditions have been breached
(meaning it was accidental damage not you and your mates testing out who
can break it first), then it will be replaced under the Lifetime Warranty.
4. Metal rings can cause allergies
Some people can have an allergic reaction to their jewelry because they have a
metal allergy, which they may or may not know about. This reaction can be
from a variety of different materials such as gold, silver, nickel or cobalt. In short
all of our rings are hypoallergenic for the majority of people even though our
rings do contain some of the above materials.
How can that be you ask? Well, it’s all in the details of the binders, alloys and
chemical composition of the different mixtures which make up the final product.
However if you do have super sensitive skin then the following information may
help you to make the right decision on the perfect Wedding Band for you.
5. Allergy Info: Tungsten Carbide
For the Tungsten rings our manufacturer
uses tungsten carbide which is mixed with
a nickel-chromium binder, making the
Tungsten Wedding Band range cobaltbinder free.
People who experience an allergic
reaction to white gold due to the nickel in
the ring do not experience the same thing
with the tungsten carbide as the nickel
amounts are so small. When purchasing a
tungsten ring always be sure to get one
that doesn’t contain cobalt.
6. Allergy Info: Cobalt Chrome
If tungsten rings are hypoallergenic
because they don’t have a cobalt-binder,
then cobalt chrome rings must cause an
allergic reaction, right? NO. This is
because cobalt chrome and cobalt-binder
are two different things and when different
elements are combined you get a different
chemical composition.
Cobalt should not be mixed with tungsten
as it will cause an allergic reaction for
some, but cobalt combined with chrome
creates an extremely hypoallergenic metal.
So good in fact that its what doctors use
for medical implants.
7. Allergy Info: Ceramic
Ceramic rings do not contain any metal at all, so those people who have metal
allergies can wear ceramic rings with confidence. There is no binder, alloys or
coatings which will give you a metal reaction so this is your safest
hypoallergenic ring for those with super sensitive skin.
Should be be one of the very few people
who do experience an allergic reaction
from any of our rings know that our
returns policy allows you to exchange
your rings for another type or obtain 100%
of your money back on the purchase
within 30 days.
8. All rings need costly maintenance
Something not all retailers will tell you is that gold and/or plated rings have
additional yearly maintenance required at your cost to ensure the quality of ring
remains high. And at times this yearly maintenance is a requirement of your
warranty. Not keeping the maintenance up to date can void it, which is not
great at all.
$ $ $
Additionally, they will tell sell you expensive solutions and cleaning clothes for
you to do the extra maintenance work between these yearly re-plating. All of
these costs can add up and of course there is your time to factor in here.
9. Maintenance on our range
Thorsten have made their rings to be as maintenance free as possible
meaning there is no need for extra cleaning products to be purchased or
expensive re-coating. By using the hardest materials like tungsten and
ceramic all you need to do is wipe the ring with a damp cloth if it gets
dusty. If your tungsten ring does tarnish then all is takes is a little mild
soap, a toothbrush to scrub it, and a cotton towel to dry it off.
Important Note:
The chemical cleaners (such as ammonia,
bleach, and chlorine) retailer sell are actually
harmful to the tungsten rings and should not be
used. In mentioning this it is also important to
add that wearing your tungsten ring in
chlorinated spas or pools is best avoided.
